Hi all,
I was trying to install AccuWeather for Honeycomb and it's stuck at download.
I can no longer able to install any additional apps successfully (everything was working fine before I tried to download this app).
Killed Market services, reboot did not get rid of this continue AccuWeather download stuckiness.
I have CWM3.1.0.1 mod by solarnz installed with Primordial 3.1 rooted
Not sure if ths is the solution, but some have had luck with clear data for DMClient, Download Manager, Downloads (in Running Services view).

Hi,
The download stuck over night, definitely should not take that long.
Also, I should be able to download and install additional apps in parallel. In my case, additional apps completed download, but always installed unsuccessfully.
Any way, clear cache and force close of Download and Download Manager got rid of this problem.
Some thing is not quite right about my TF and Accuweather for honeycomb app - I tried it again today and it sure stuck again
I can't install it either, and I get the same thing with Pinball HD, I'm thinking it has something to do with the large size of the app.
That is my conclusion as well. I am having the same issue with Accuweather, Pinball HD, and Battleheart. I've tried the various fixes out there: The GTalk sign in method, symlinking the market cache directory to a directory on the SD card. All to no avail. Anyone have any other cogent ideas? I'd really like to be able to use these apps since I paid for them and all (ok, not Accuweather).
I'm really really excited...! This is my dream tablet, I've been waiting for this for over a month. And now its finally mine! But there is a problem, since I've no WiFi network in my house(for now), how can I install applications. I know the android applications are .apk format, but I don't know from where to download them. I got the file manager HD .apk file but I don't know how to install it. Please help!
Youll have to root your tablet then you can install apks locally. Alternatively you can try easy installer. You will need a internet connection as its required by the Market to install apps.

I don't think you have to root to install apps locally... as long as you have the unknown sources option checked, you can install apps from wherever you want. If you have a desktop with internet that you can get to, you can download the apk's from various torrent sites, and I think there is a web version of the android market? I'm sure there are other places as well, just search on Google. anywhooo, then just transfer the file over to your A500 via the USB cable or flash drive, and open the file through the app manager option that pops up when you tap on it, then click install.
I have had no problem download APKs onto my desktop computer and then putting them on a Micro SD card to use on the A500 without having to root anything.
u can use Docs to go to navigate to .apk on your tablet and launch instal from there. Thats my way)

Congrats on getting your Inconia!
For apps like the filemanager you could just download them from the Android marketplace, then they would install themselves. Otherwise, place them on your sd card if you're downloading to your PC first. Apps will also install if they are in your download folder on the tablet (say for example, if you download from the dev's website or email them to yourself as an attachment).
One thing you might have to do first is check the setting that allows you to install "unsigned" third-party app. I believe it's: Setting->Applications->Unknown Sources.
From what I understand, there's not much concern of installing something harmful anymore (for which this setting was designed to protect against), but I could be wrong. Just be careful who you are getting the app from if it's not from the market, a dev's site or a reputable person here at the forum.
That's my $.02 Have fun!
Just get a home network!
Enjoy your Iconia....I love mine!
Congratulations
- No need to root for installing apk, just check the checkbox (the Iconia will told you what you have to do anyway)
- Get a wifi quick
Need Moboplayer and A good office editor
Hi, I still need few days to set up my WiFi network at home, in the mean time, can any one share any direct download link to .apk files like moboplayer and a good office editor?
In several threads in this forum, many users(especially book addicts) need the Samsung Ebook APP for android ICS(or HC maybe?) but never get a proper, fully functional result.but this thread is to end their worries about the loss and perhaps will be an end to that problem...
It's simple:just download the APP files and follow the instructions and ENJOY!
There will be two posts that will follow: one for Honeycomb and the other for ICS...
News: a new Q&A section is likely to be created in each of the following posts!

For Honeycomb:
There are two files:the one that is in the attachment is flashable with CWM recovery but doesn't have the APP's data, the data must be downloaded through WiFi.
Use the second file only if your device is rooted and you have Titanium backup installed.just pu the folder "Titanium backup" in the root of your tablet's storage and restore the APP using Titanium.this file is accessible here:

All is fine, try again...otherwise it is your problem only...if so,pm me
I downloaded it from the Samsung appstore before I disabled the Samsung appstore on my tab. It is in there too for those running stock.
Yes,maybe,if you have stock HC or ICS installed on HC...but most users have experienced issues with non-stock ROMs,this is for them
I really want to try the Samsung ebook reader but having trouble installing. My tablet is stock hc3.2 and non-rooted and have the Samsung appstore loaded on the Tab. When I try to install, the Samsung App jumps to Google Play and says not compatible with any of my devices (HTC Incredible 2, Nook Color (rooted) and Tab).
Anybody have any ideas how to install with out being rooted.
Thanks in advance
Yes,that's easy if you're familiar with Odin...do the following(voids warranty,no root):
Go to: https://sites.google.com/site/arashtarafar/
Download "recovery.tar.md5","bootloader.tar.md5","boot-cm...hc32..."
Flash the first two files with Odin,go into CWM and flash the third file...
Grab the "Ebook.zip" from the Honeycomb post in this thread(attachment),transfer the zip to your device and flash it with CWM...
Now you have stock 3.2 Ebook APP without root...launch it and in Samsung APPs press "Get",after completion press "Launch",the APP is in your device
Edit:for your Google play issue,I must say that if you log in with a banned/embargoed google account it shows "You do not have any devices",I have the same problem...hate and love Google play at the same time...
Thanks for the reply. But I don't want to load CWM. I'm waiting for ICS to come out for my SCH-i905 before I do any rooting / alternate recovery application. My account isn't banned or embagoed(?) cause I can load any other application from the play store to my Tab.
Download the zip from Honeycomb section, extract it,in the extracted folder go to "\system\app\"" and install "Ebook.apk",launch it,download it's data,done...
Information:the only benefit of flashing the zip package was to have Ebook installed as one of the system APPs that can't be uninstalled, there's no need to flash it otherwise...I should have said this,sorry...
Ebook
Do you know if it works in CM9 ?
(Flashing Ebook.zip via CWM)
I think it works but have not tested.I'll test it as soon as I get rid of the official ICS,you can test it yourself without harm if you don't like waiting.just follow the above post(first of page 2)

Arashtarafar, Thanks for the suggestion. I installed the APK but when I try to run the app, I get a message that "Service will be available soon" and nothing happens.
When I go into the Samsung App Center, it must recognize that it is installed cause I can "Delete" the application.

Thanks, man! It worked smoothly!
Sorry for the total noob question, but here goes. I have rooted my NST, using the following instructions: http://tinymicros.com/wiki/NOOK_Simple_Touch_%28NST%29_Rooting_For_Practiscore Forgive the external link, I just wanted to be clear on where I am at.
If this isn't acceptable, apparently the source of the info is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346748 and I used the "the 'Normal + Xorzone's mods + adb Wifi' build "
Practiscore works flawlessly and my nook does what I need it to do. Now I have been thinking that it would be cool to be able to surf the web or at least be able to use the internet over wifi to load apps without having to load it on the SD card manually.
Right now, when I open the browser, it will actually open www.google.com when I set it to the home page but then crash whenever I try to do anything - even just clicking on the search box. The fact that it will actually open google, tells me my connection is working, but either the root process broke the browser, or something else is wrong. I can also open the market and get it to show me some apps, but it won't let me search or surf to any app. Searching just hangs and displays nothing.
I've tried searching but I haven't had any luck in picking the proper search terms to get an answer, and for some reason there is a script running wild on this page that refreshes it every 2 seconds interrupting what I am doing. That problem is probably on my PC, but firefox is what I have.
Ok, I got some things to install by d/l'ing the APK's directly to the SD card on a PC. I still haven't gotten the app store to work, or google.
The app store search will not work on your nook touch, the only way to install apps are either sideloading them or installing them wirelessly using google play on your computer.
You may want to use Opera Mobile instead of the basic browser, it would be easier than getting the stock one working.

Ok, this thing is just not working, everything I try in the market or using the browser just crashes. I downloaded the opera mini, but I didn't get an apk, so I have no idea how to install the extracted files. Most of the apk's I have found to put on here don't work either and just crash. I cant even get hangman or a crossword to load for pete's sake...
Did you root it to run Practiscore on?
If not, I'd suggest restoring your backup, upgrading to 1.2.1 firmware, then using NookManager with NTGAppsAttack (see the Nook Touch Android Development Forum here on xda). That worked just fine for me. But I don't need to run Practiscore.

Yes, the link in the OP was what I used.
1. NTGAppsAttack - working google play
2. use SeachMarket.apk to look for APK's in Google play.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38323047&postcount=6
3. Use Opera Mobile instead of Mini.
4. To manually install .apk (without using ADB)
- put it on your uSD.
- open it using Relaunch or any other file browser that you use.

You sir are a genius. The searchmarket and Opera mobile WORK!!
Now all I have to figure out is how to get rid of those extra apps [that suck and don't work]
Oh and maybe a pdf reader that works...
..and is the screen supposed to go all wonky for a second whenever I do anything? Or is there a new video driver?
Hi
it is a long time ago.
Lastweek I got the fireTV update on the Amazon echo show 15. Without this change/update no chance for me to sideload apks. Funny is before the update the firmware is V7.5.5.5 and after firetv installation it is V7.5.0.1. Don't ask me why. Maybe they drunk to much.
But it took me 20 min to find a workaround to sidekoade apks.
@Amazon_Devs: Stop reading here. DO NOT BLOCK this workaround, make the launcher selectable again and bring the same Dev functions like on fireTV! THANK YOU!
I am not responsible for any damage or warranty loss
So end of the political messages.
For the first apk i would install Firefox apk(with it you can download more apps more comfortable)
1. Open FireTV Icon
2. Open appstore
3. Get Downloader, Totalus (launcher) and Total comander from Amazon fireTV appstore
(All the Apps do not work with touch.)
4. Open App Downloader
5. Select with onscreenremote "Browser"
6. Look for a page where you can get Firefox apk. I used uptodown
7. Download the apk (i recomend Firefox)
9. Go to total comander
10.Move with total comander the downloaded file from path Downloader to Downloads
11. Open totalus launcher
12. Open the blue folder (system file explorer)
13.Klick on Downloads
14. There should be your downloaded apk.
15. Install it
Ok done
When you install Firefox nextime you will have a browser which support touch functionality and when you download the next APK it will be directly stored in the Folder Downloads
Then just repeat the last steps 11-15.
Limitations:
Getting permissions is like Russian roulette storage is no problem. Special rights or higher permission can't confirmed in the system settings.
Dev options are available but it is the same **** as before.
Ok so now to the use cases:
I use this (now) awsome 15.6 zoll screen in my citchen to controll everything via homeassistant.
If you a owner of a Fritzbox Cable you can install Fritz TV apk direktly from AVM and you get a nice TV.
Homeassistant (you can enable in the app settings stay activ)
Spotify
Firefox
Total comander as an apk (not the Amazon appstore version. Remove it and install total comamder apk and you can controll it with the touchscreen)
I tired Nova launcher and Microsoft launcher
F DROID Can't install apks
Playstore (I think they have put playstore on a apk blacklist)
Uptodown can't install apks
There is some days ago another manual the suggested using Makrodroid for automations. May Tasker as well.
Also a APK which creates a storage via wifi. So with it you can transfere files from a PC to the echo show and the other way round.
Open Points:
I installed Wolf Launcher aka launcher Manager for FireTV. This launcher request the standard app for Settings.
When someone here is able to create a app which request the standard settings app and will open a selectable app like a launcher or whatever. The settings button can converted to a custom shortcut.
A custom linageOS ROM would be nice but I think
the kernel source for CPU AZ2 (some informations about processor) is not released and there is no way right now to install twrp. Correct me if I am wrong.
Some more blabla:
Echo Show 15 opened: teardown echo show 15
Her is written the hardware price is 309 Dollar. I bought it during blackweek for 199 and if you have a old echo you can make a trade in and you can get 25% discount on top.
Sideloaded apks listed in firetv as grey/black fields so you don't know which app is the correct one.
This could a workaround: Workaround icons
I also bought the usb network adapter to connect the device by LAN and I am thinking about a POE powersupply it.
There are two more guides out there:
Guide 1
Guide 2
Appdownloader became unavailable yesterday morning - if you try to install it the icon doesnt say GET - it just says unavailable. Any other workarounds for adb?
Hi
May the wifi ftp app could work or the other Downloader App but both are not for free or do it like in Guide2
I used the WiFi Transfer app in the store - then you can use the built in File Manager thats on the Show to install the APK's - Since they removed Downloader, this way is the second way to do it - and a little tougher to disable without a firmware update, assuming they remove the built in File Manager to install apps.

So, I am really new at this for the Show 15, but I am learning.
The wifi transfer app worked to get my apk on the show 15 and I used Total Commander to move it to the Downloads folder.
When I install it though it doesn't show up, as if it didn't install.
I don't remember what other app I used to try to install it, but at some point I got a message saying that I didn't have permission to install apps from unknown sources.
What am I doing wrong?
You need to use an app that is a trusted installer - the original method worked since Downloader has this, but all the other file managers do not. So, using Total Commander and go to system apps (scroll down a bit on the left side) - Open system apps and then on the right hand side, scroll down to File Manager (it may just say file). Then Click the virtual remote enter button and hold it for a bit, after about 2 seconds the upper right hand corner will show a new icon, it will be the first icon in the 4 icons in the upper right. Using the remote clik the new click and it will open up the File Manager - Install from there

Thanks so much for working with me on this.
When I open Total Commander there is a list on the left.
The last one is - Installed apps
In that folder there is a File Explorer 1.681A and one that I think I downloaded - File Explorer for Fire Tablets & TV (File Manager App) 1.0
Using my Fire TV remote and holding down the ENTER button a menu pops up:

I got it!! Thank you soooo much!
You're my hero! This is great!
Excellent - Glad you got it working... I ordered another one since this works, hoping it gets here quickly before Amazon figures this one out and disables it in some update. I think it would require an entire system update to disable since its a system app.
Hi,
I've try to install something since Downloader is KO but.... how what dit you (@HypnoticGuy ) do to install it ?
tried installing the same way but there is a new message "unable to install apps from unknown source".
Is there any way around this? seems like Amazon blocked it all.
need to know before sending it back as it is useless for me if I cannot side load anything on this...
When do you get the error that you cant install apps from an unknown source? I can still sideload apps using the built in, system file manager, but I havent updated since it worked (assuming Amazon did updates)
Amazon updated and removed the built in file manager so you can no longer install APKs by opening them with it. I’m not sure what to do now and may just return mine until this gets sorted out. Wish I could downgrade the OS, but it seems unlikely
adb sideloading may be one idea, but enabling developer options does not show adb debugging menu anymore.
Hello everyone,
I got an Echo Show 15 as a gift for Christmas and then brought it to the software version at the time. So Firetv was on it but I didn't do anything else and since I still haven't tackled the wall mounting with cabling, it hasn't been switched on since then.
My question would be: Is there a way to block it so that I can install the kiosk browser or will it still force the update on me?
I have Pi Hole but have no idea what to set there!
Of course, I don't dare to put the device into operation now either
does anyone know?
