What do you mean your screen is "blank/empty/black"? At the first boot after flashing Gapps, you should be greeted with a Setup Wizard to restore your Google stuff. Gapps is supposed to install Play Store, Gmail, Gtalk, and some others, I forget. Sounds like you did a bad flash. Make sure the zips aren't corrupted, and do a clean flash. Also, be sure to flash the ROM then Gapps.

after the setup wizard i got a black screen, then i pressed the home button and everything was fine. so i guess that black screen was just nova launcher.
anyway i found out how to remove nova launcher, using titanium backup. but yea i though gapps would install more things than it did. it installed the playstore, google sync, gmail and like 1 or 2 other things. no google maps or anything so i'm not sure what i'm missing from the default google apps selections.

My understanding is some apps aren't included for legal reasons. You can find maps in the playstore as well as wallet and a few others.

I recommend backing up your phone and then wiping it and doing a clean install of 10.2
Is it only me? does anyone else have the same problem?
I understand a clean installation may fix the problem; but I am trying not to do that due to time consuming before and after every clean installation. Normally, take me a whole day to go through settings and home screen layouts.
By the way, I cannot revert back to CM10.1 through settings-CyanogenMod Updates; screen stays on loading icon forever. Any ideas?

Use Helium. Then you can back up your settings, Launcher settings, text messages, ect, apps included if you want to your Gdrive, wipe, re-install and then just download Helium and pull it back down. It takes me about 4 minutes to back up my settings for:
Touchdown
Airdroid
Launcher
WiFi settings
Messaging
Chrome
G+
Keep
Voice
Skype
Hangouts
Then I wipe and flash a new ROM + Gapps (5min, if that), pull down Play Store update + Apps that I want to put back on my phone(about 7-10min), and then restore my settings(about 5min). I'm ready to go in maybe 25 minutes with the exact same setup I had before I started
It will take longer if you are backing up music, games and a lot of images too, but I have all my photos auto-upload to my G+ so I don't worry about backing those up, and my music is in the Play Music so I just thumbtack the ones I want to keep as i come acorss them again.
You need to update to the latest radio. Flash a 4.3 image with fastboot, then unlock, root, etc.
Sent from my Nexus 4
AND flash the latest Gapps: http://goo.im/gapps
if you are using lte, then you need one of the hybrid radios. if not, then the newest radio.
... too late to know all these and the Helium...
In the afternoon, I used titanium backup; and did a clean install of the cm10.2; same problem...no phone call; then I did a clean install of a old cm10.1; it works now!!!
when I am so excited to use titanium to recover my apps.... no backup file available... only .properties files in the folder.... zip files are missing.
I've lost all my app data and everything... until now, I am still trying to recover what I could remember...

[Q] Did not flash Gapps, Google Search Bar does not open Google Now?

Hi so I'm on PA 3.99 and I did not flash the Gapps package since I don't wanna bloar my phone. the problem is that now when I press the Google Search Bar on my homescreen it does not open the Google Now app (I've installed it from the Play Store, it does work fine) but instead open the ancient Google Search app that we saw in Android 2.0. I've tried disabling the search service in the Apps menu but it only lead to a warning that Search has stopped working. The microphone next to the search bar still opens the right app, however.
Any of you guys want to shed me a light on this? Thanks...
Flash Gapps, I had the same thing happen back then except I had forgotten to flash it after the rom. You'll probably run into other issues eventually if you don't flash the Gapps package. Flashing it won't add any bloatware or unnecessary software, so don't worry about it.
after you flash the gapps, boot up then just delete what you dont want out of/system/app/. thats what i do.
To be honest, if just having gapps is bloat to you then a smartphone might not be a good choice.

[Q] Can't enable Google Now

So I'm on 4.4 KitKat with the Google Experience Launcher and can't activate Google Now. I'm using PA Gapps 4.4. I can't use Titanium backup to uninstall it because I'm on ART. So I don't know what to do...
I tried changing languages but that didn't work. I tried setting a reminder so it gives me the option, but still it just crashes back to the homescreen.

Do you have the latest Google Search installed? Download it from the Play Store.
ART is still very experimental. It may cause a lot of bugs. Try switching to Dalvik. Does the problem persist?

Yes the problem persists. I had this problem on 4.3 PA GAPPS too. I switched back to dalvik to use Titanium to uninstall it and then re-install it but that still didn't work. What I usually do is, uninstall updates, activate Gnow and then install the latest version, however I cannot uninstall updates....I need to find a way to get the stock Gnow version.
If you're using the Google launcher you have the latest version, Google Now is the launcher itself. It should be enabled as long as you have the GmsCore, downloaded your offline speech recognition package, and logged into your PlayStore account.
If you are using ART, you need to make sure to use the odexed gapps package for it to be compatible.

It was working when I was using GEL on 4.3. As soon as I flashed GAPPs 4.4 and PA 4.4 I had no way of enabling it. ART or dalvik doesn't have anything to do with it.

The only fix is changing location to "DEVICE ONLY". If it still happens after that clear all data associated with "GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES"
Also is "google play services" that's the issue, not "google search"
works fine here, on the latest chroma.
This post needs to be made in the thread for whatever ROM/Xposed/Kernel configuration you're using.

Flashing GAPPS on Stock Rooted Galaxy S8

Is it safe to flash GAPPS (arm64 - 7.0 - stock) on Stock Rooted Galaxy S8 via TWRP?
yes it is safe
yes it is possible i have renovate ice rom 7.1 with gapps arm64 stock and it works flawless. as my intention it replaces all the samsung stock apps with google and you get the fully pixel launcher, you may want to delete some stock system apps that stay on the phone with system app uninstaller (root) if you wanna know more you can contact me.

Nice, which one did you install?
I think i used open-gapps, the one with the aroma installer that lets you select stuff. I wouldn't say "flawless" but it does work. Even if you only select some apps it sets things up for all of them and so your logs get spammed for days about missing receivers and broadcast crap. I should try again but with nano gapps or something
I used the usual .zip gapps and everything works fine as it should but only the dailer app doesn't work with me. It says it needs phine permission but I can't give it because the app doesn't ask. And I can't give it that permission in the settings, but the rest no problems I uninstalled all Samsung stock apps and replaced them with gapps.

Stock dialer works fine, you just grant the permissions it needs from settings.
