Currently running the sabre tooth kernel, runs very quick - but device seems to die rather quickly. Any other kernel that people can reccomend for the WiFi nexus7 that offers better battery life with minimal lag? Current ROM is also the sabre tooth latest build.

I'm using M-Kernel and I would say that this is a very good kernel in terms of battery life and performance, although this is not geared for performance per se, but this kernel is more of a balance between the two. Other users reportedly are happy with the Omega Kernel, its still relatively new, but the reviews are good. Go try them out.
I like franco and lean kernels. To be honest, I cannot really decide between these two. The best is to try them both. They are very well tuned, so there's absolutely no need to overclock - this is very important to preserve battery.
Anyone able to post a link to the Franco kernel? The one in his thread is not loading the webpage where it is housed.

There's also a thread in one of the subforums that lists most of the current kernels and runs each one through the same tests to rank them by speed and battery life.
M and Franco seem to consistently be the top two for battery, but I wonder if that will change if Clemsyn's is ever updated.

I was wondering the same as I used Clemson's before....was beautiful on 4.1.2...then it just gave up on updates once AOSP 4.2 rolled out.

For my part in stock kernel I was running about 5050, which is very promising when the capabilities of the beast!

Not massive on bechmarks and a big fan of Franco.
I cant tell any day to day difference in the performance between any of the kernels currently out however Matrix is giving me more batter life, (more screen on time) than the others.

I just flashed franco kernel myself with paranoid android. Going to see how it runs for a few days.
For those who have used matrix and franco extensively care to share your thoughts, pros/cons for each?

Tried faux123, found it undesirable with current my settings.
Didn't want to commit to non-stock ROM for franco. Would love to try it though.
I'm on xylon ROM and matrix 3.0 kernel
My n4 battery life last so long that even my wife asked me to root her phone and make it last all day like mine....

Running franco kernel and using my phone as I normally would during the day. I don't see any particular battery life savings. I think I will flash matrix tonight and see how it goes tomorrow.

Yes sir, franco also uses stock rom.
I have gotten the best battery from matr1x compared to Franco. I got 2 1/2 hr on stock, 3 hr 40 min on Franco and 4hr 40 min on Matr1x I'm still running stock otherwise but I think I'm gonna try experimenting with Roms tonight. Any suggestions I want to stay as close to a stock look as possible but I'm willing to bend for battery.

Are you using interactive as the governor? It is more tweaked than ondemand on Franco.

Yes I was using interactive but I only gave it about 2 days. I needed to probably give it more time. But I'm loving Matr1x at the moment. Thank u for your suggestions they are much appreciated

He tweaked it for interactive... Also each kernel has their sweet spot for every person... It's not the same for all.. Which takes time... Like a week

Try a kernel.
People have been getting good results with franco, motley, matrix, basically every kernel except for maybe trinity. I would suggest you try franco and motley first.
Flash a custom kernel it contains the msm wake lock fix that Google has not yet implemented in the stock build. I suggest Franco and to download better battery stats to ensure no wake locks and that your phone is deep sleeping

There is no real answer for this. Everybody has different results. For better battery focus more on the kernel. Try one for a few days, then another and compare performance. Keep going until you find what best fits your needs. Remember there is no overall best, but rather best for you.

Official nightly usually is more cutting edge, but the M builds are more stable and would probably have better battery life.
Third Party Cyanogenmod, like SlimBean will most likely have lower battery life due to adding additional features, but like the other individuals said the kernel is more important than the ROM itself. A ROM can only be as efficient as the kernel itself.

I've been using Matr1x kernel for quite some time now. It's the best I've used. I've tried Faux and Franco and those didn't work too well for me. Try them all out though and see what works best for you.

Franco's latest kernels have been very battery friendly. They're amazing. You do kinda sacrifice (albeit super tiny) performance though.
If you care about performance more, try Motley's. His kernels are reasonably battery friendly, but doesn't sacrifice any performance.
Trinity and Matr1x are my preferred kernels due to their speed and overall stability.
Battery go for Franco.

Yes to be honest Franco's kernel is the only kernel I'm confident with when I go out LOL
must say though the hunt for kernels has been remedied by google, for me at least. their 4.2.2 is insane. im getting 21.800 in antutu without touching the clocking frequencies. im getting 1-2 days of use and still 4-5 hours screen on. its reliable, it wont crash or screw up otherwise and best of all i dont worry about it, at all, its enough for me to settle and think of kernels no more. only thing that really bugged me on this plattform were the colors. but thats solved now. if you wanna try: http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/mako/ start with contrasty and see if you can live with the brightness, that one has probably the nicest colors that can be possible with this panel.
Post your results here. Also if you could say what CPU governor you are using, that would be great.
Running vanir with Jassy kernel oced at 1.9 ghz governor ondemand. Runs great so far

Not another thread like this again. Everyone's device will yield different results. We all use our devices differently. A particular ROM/kernel combo on my device will not yield the same results for someone else. There is no best ROM/kernel combo that is best for battery life. Try out a bunch and find what works for "you".
