First let me say sorry if this was posted before, I searched and found nothing on it.
I just got off the phone with a T-mobile Rep and, he explained to me, that If i sign up for a new contract when purchasing the Nexus I will not be eligable for my 15% corporate discount on rate plane.
Has anyone successfully used their discount on a rate plan using the N1? I find it hard to believe that Google cares that much about me getting a 15% discount.
Thanks!
I couldn't even get my corporate discount on the regular non-contract plans. I decided to downgrade my minutes, and I have to pay full price for the 500 min, unlimited data and text plan, which is $60.
Their reasoning was that "it's already discounted," whatever that means.
---
Oh, I just wanted to add that you can just buy the "unlocked" phone for full price and use your existing plan. That might save you in the long run, depending on how much you pay at the moment.
Yea I am currently on the Even More Plus (no Contract) and was willing to sign the two-years to get the nexus subsidized, then use my discount to get the 1000 min + Text + Web for 75 with insurance but I was told Google will not allow Discounted rate plans with the N1...
The lack of corporate discount has nothing to do with the N1 and everything to do with the Everything More + plans. EM+ plans are not eligible for corporate discount to the base plans, though the add-ons may be discounted and activation fees may be waived depending on the corp discount. This is true regardless of the phone you use.
If you are on a regular EM plan (or an older eligible plan) you can still have your corporate discount with that plan and the N1.
The way I know it as a T-Mobile rep is that if you are on EvenMore, you get get the discount (lets say it was 15%) plus the waived act fees. If you are on Even More Plus, you still get the waived act fee but you dont get the monthly discount because its already cheaper than the Contracted one with your discount on that. I understand were everyone comes from cause the discount should be applied the any rate plan but, I don't think T-Mo would be getting enough money to expand the network like we want and bring in the devices that we want if they did do that especially because they give discounts to so many different organization (business, AAA, alumni, students, faculty, gov, churchs, etc). But just to lay it out so every one understands let take EvenMoreTTW Unlimited and EvenMorePlusTTW Unlimited. EM would be $85 after discount and EM+ is still 80. Usually if you get a great discount on your phone and monthly, EM would come out better (just realize that the phone discount would only be for the new act and not upgrades later) but if its just that plan you get a discount on EM+ is the way to go for the long run.
Yea I am on the EM+ but was willing to switch to the EM plan to use my discount. I was told that the discount COULD NOT be used because when purchasing the phone from google they only allow Individual Plans not Corporate Plans.
This made no sense to me but thats what I was told.

Since my significant other is on a discounted plan with an N1 I am not sure as to the validity of the argument. I personally am on the loyalty plan and do not see a point in changing. Did you call business suppport? if you just dialed 611 I would not be surprised with that answer, look at the extremely inconsistent answers on everything else (plans, insurance, support...) coming out of the CSRs.
Since you already have the phone, and I assume you got it subsidized at the new contract rate ($179), your options may be more limited. If however you are on a corporate plan and bought it at existing customer subsidy (now $279 if memory serves) or unsubsidized you most certainly can have a corporate discount.
i bought unlocked so Tmobile didnt touch my corporate discount let alone know im using a n1
ok i got it all taken care of, the original CS Rep was misunderstanding what I asked. Glad I got it all cleared up.
Thanks for those of you who posted and chimed in with responses!!
Ok this may sound weird but I got the phone on contract by adding a line to my account like I stated. I just decided (after ordering the phone) that I dont wanna be on a contract and i just want to buy the phone outright.
Can I just cancel the added line with T-Mobile and pay the Recovery Fee or 350.00 to google or do I have to return the phone then let them refund my account then order it again unsubsidized.
I guess my real question is How do i go about getting google to charge me the ERF so I dont have to ship and wait for a refund just to order it again?
When I went in and got my SIM card, I got my discount. Activation fee waived, and 15% off my plan (everything more plus or w/e...the $60 one)
Also just as a referce for everyone, so if you have a corp discount you can apply, just go into any store after do the EM plan buying a N1 and then the will still add it. I have gotten no word from T-Mobile that we aren't allowed to add the discount to the plan. Its pretty much the phone is just sold through google, once your plan is set up and everything yo can do whatever as far as adding discount or changing plan. Honestly on our side you wouldn't see anything. You just can't switch to EM+ cause that would cause a ETF. As far as the loyalty plan, that 50 for unlimited minutes and 35 more if you add texting and data, so you would save $5 a month and make up the migration fee of $35 over time but just up to you if a contract is a problem or not thats all. I probably would stay contracted if you like Tmo on the single line loyalty it doesn't get too much better.
Even More Plus plans were never eligible for corporate discounts, but Even More plans are. I have a discount on mine. However, T-mobile dropped the discount... so when I switched to buy the subsidized phone, my discount went from 15% to 6%. Sucks, but better than nothing.
DynaBass139: Sort of off topic but I would not switch to EM+ because I would lose number portability. I am not under any contract obligation at this point so ran the numbers and debated the subject a great deal. Granted I am unlikely to change carriers but I have had the same phone number for close to a decade now. If I decide/need to switch carriers I want to keep it.. The deal is good enough, though I wish T-Mo would drop the web to $30 to put it on parity with EM+ for cost.
(I have historically not subsidized my phones because T-Mo has not had the phones I have wanted. I have gone through a long list of HTC phones starting at the Blue Angel in 2004 I think, down to the N1 I bought on release day. If a N2 comes out on T-Mo with a keyboard I might try and subsidize that though. 2 $500+ phones in a year would be a bit too much.)
I was just gonna say I went in the day after I got mine and received the Fedex corporate discount no prob. Too late.
Ok i am just going to stay on my EM+ without the discount but I made the mistake of choosing the subsidy by opening a new line.
anyone know if I can just cancel that new line that I opened and just pay the other 350.00 off. i know google has the equipment recovery fee so how does that get charged?
Just read that AT$T is dropping the Pure.

I just brought two ($99 each) online and received them with my 2 yrs contract extension without changing my current sweet plan.
Two lines family plan (one with $20 media net unlimited w/ 200 sms, and the other with no data plan). My company has 15 or 20 % discount to bring my monthly bill around $80 a month
I am an heavy A2DP user and I pick D2 instead of TP2 because it's with WM BT stack instead of the problematic Widcomm stack

Check your TOCs as in the UK this would be treated as breach of original contract and grounds for no penalty cessation of contract.

I read all the details when I submit the extension online (that's why I didn't call AT&T to avoid stupid representative change anything to my plan). I will watch my bill closely to make sure nothing has been change to my plan.
And actually, I got a automatic $50 rebate email (knock the Pure down to $49 each) IF I activate a $30+ monthly data plan (obviously I won't fall into that trap ;p ).
I remember HTC still have $100 rebate if you trade an old WM phone with them and hopefully I can take advantage of it. (Byebye my good old P525 and M600 )

Yup, they're doing this a lot now. Did it to me when I was using my Nexus One, which isn't even AT&T phone.
One of the many reason's I've switched to T-Mobile - never looking back.
there is away to avoid that, lock the IMEI number with a non smartphone by calling in and telling them u want a media net for your phone and then swap phones after, i still have not gotten an email saying i have a smart phone
Yeah, but wait until you get your next bill.

Maybe an expert here can confirm this, but I understand that the imei number is like an automobile VIN number, but the person who told me this could be (and has been in the past) wrong!
my friend got the pure and had the $15 plan guess what he got slapped with the $30 plan, therefore my theory is wrong..... but my phone is still on the $15 plan because its a TD2, not the pure
AT&T database crossed referenced with his IMEI and know its a smart phone, therefore ppl can get away with the $15 plan basically by getting a phone that AT&T does not have the IMEI in its database, other words dont get a AT&T smartphone, or change the IMEI number to a non smartphone
the IMEI number is the serial number for the phone, some phones carry the makers serial and the IMEI, just like a VIN number of a car or the MAC addy of a network card, there is no way that 2 phones have the same IMEI, CDMA phones uses the same thing
then again i could be wrong, and i am ready to be stand corrected
Touch wood first.
I start using the $20 media-net + 200 msg plan many yrs ago with AT&T Tilt, then more than 1 yrs with SE X1, and just switch to Pure this month. No issue so far and hopes it will stay the same.

I was about to throw up. What happened?
It was supposed to be
$70 <---Monthly fee everything data
$10 <--- Premium for data
$07 <---- Insurance
____
$87
But it seems they charged way too many taxes for NYC, NY State, activation fee which was not waived. Fee for this, fee for that.
The fees were prorated, which means I was charged only 2 weeks of fees. I don't want to know how the bill will be with 30 days worth of fees.
I hope this is a one time only. At that price it's like the iPhone!
I hope this doesn't happen in your states.
Yea that's common for the first bill. I tried to get my activation fee dropped but that wasn't happening. O well - my corporate discount kicks in 2 weeks
we were told that the activation fee would be on the current billing cycle, but would be credited back on the next billing cycle.

I went into my local sprint store and had them apply a credit for what my corp discount should be and they were happy to do it.
They also said that my activation fee posts at first but should be credited back after a bill or two and if not to come in and they will credit it themselves.
Find a local Sprint store where the ppl are cool and then go to that store exclusively. You would be amazed the lengths ppl will go for you once you develop a rapport with them.

Ha you think you were about to throw up. My wife and I have the shared 1500 minute plan when our first bill came it was $260 bucks, WTH. anybody could get the eprp discounted plan, you just need a sprint employee's email and last 3 of his id #. Russ McGuire (a sprint exec) posted his info on his personal blog so anyone could use it. Basically gets you a cheaper plan with more minutes than the basic.
I got it for my buddy, but I didn't use it cuz I get a corp discount that doesn't stack on top of the EPRP plans.
Edit: You have to do it at account signup, they won't switch an existing account over. (might be able to do it with new line activation).

Do you have them as two separate plans?
Edit: Just reread your post. Are you sure they are both on the same family plan or are they two seperate individual plans on the same account? That sounds way too high.
I have the family 1600 eprp which is the same as the 1500 minute regular plan except it's cheaper with 100 extra minutes and $5 less per additional line
I have 5 lines 2 of them are evo's 3 lines have insurance and I paid $212 for my first month.
My plan is $109 for the first 2 lines $15 each additional line and $10 per evo line with $7 per line that has insurance.
The regular version of this plan is $129 for the first two lines and $20 per additional line.
EPRP also gets hotspot at $20 vs $30.
My RadioShack guy just called me today and they'll be taking pre-orders for Epic 4G. You need to buy $50 gift card to reserve the phone and it could be used towards the Epic on 8/31 when you pick it up.
I hate dealing with rebates, I reserved two Epic's already.

I had that issue with my first phone, it was free via 3rd party but I had to pay ~$45 for activation, still cheaper then phone. I called sprint because for some reason I was charged $.02 for roaming, and I wanted to make sure it was a mistake because I didn't think Sprint charged roaming.
Anyway, Sprint noticed I paid the activation fee and credited it to my account because "Sprint doesn't charge for activation, period."
This was 2 years ago though, still more then worth it with the $50 gift card.
I'll prefer to hear from BestBuy (Mobile) and rather get it from them. Too many horror stories about the Shack and inventory levels when it comes to replacements and such.
I need to handle and play with it first at the store before rushing in anyway...
I really want this but that $10 add on for the so called "premium data" will probably keep me away from it. Even though it's only $10 if I end up having 5 devices that would raise my bill $50. I use 5 times the data on my palm pre than my wifes EVO so I don't know where they get this premium data charge from.

Yes it does but I'm just looking down the road. Are they going to start this with every new smartphone by using the premium data excuse to get an extra 10 out of you? 4 out of my 5 lines are smartphones so when I want to upgrade I'm thinking they will require premium data plans for all new smartphones. It does suck because I really want the Epic but that would be $20 more a month if you count the EVO I already have.
So, I'm debating which route to go for the Epic. Sprint Store vs RadioShack vs Best Buy.
I know that the MSRP is $499.99, -$150 upgrade discount, -$100 MIR, making it $249.99.
I've already reserved one at the local Sprint store. What I'm wondering is which option would I benefit from an instant rebate vs having to deal with the mail in rebate, and also, which option would allow me to split the cost over several billing cycles as opposed to it all up front. I've done that with prior upgrades, but always by ordering over the phone from Sprint directly.
If I walk in to the Sprint store on 8/31, I'd think they'd be able to bill my account, but will I have to deal with the mail in rebate hassle?
If I pre-order from RadioShack or Best Buy, it's $249.99 out the door, but would they be able to do the just bill my account part?
Thanks in advance for any advice, thoughts, information, or personal experiences in similar upgrade situations.

Nope, just called sprint and they told me it's per line not per account.
I called my local Radio Shack and they put on this waiting list tonight (Thursday night). They just took my name and phone number and said I was #1 on the list. I don't trust not having to put down a deposit, so I'll stop by there tomorrow and put down the deposit if necessary. I want to make sure that I'm really on the preorder list.

It's 10 dollars per line for every 4G phone, the 10 bucks goes towards the cost of the 4G build out so I really don't mind, I have (not my friend or my cousin, me) I have 2 4G phones on my account and 2 non 4G lines I pay 10 dollars extra per 4G phone the non-4G phones have no extra cost associated with them.
Radio Shack has a preorder available online

If you don't want to take my word for it, call the Sprint store you're reserving it from. They'll tell you the same.

Go to Sprint.com and start the order process for a 4G phone. When they give the price break down they add $10 for every line/phone that is 4G. Your friend misinformed you.

Is it possible he got a deal or something? We went over his bill because I was asking the same question... Weird.
Anyone know if there is an activation fee for upgrading at RS?

Is this one of the discounts they're discontinuing next month?
Read the fine text: Has to be used online, and from what I gather, you'll basically be renewing your contract for another two years, signing a new contract, or adding a line (see first consequence).
While 23% is nicer than the 20% I get through working for a municipality, I'll stick with my 20% for now. Thanks though!
They originally offered 15%, which I signed up for at first, then about a month ago they upped the discount to 23%. Think they also have a T-Mobile 25% discount. All you need to sign up is a .edu email addrress. Doesn't even have to be yours, just get someone to let you use it.
Now I get 25% off recurring fees per month and 50% accessories through work :O
I wanted this deal but the EVO's been sold out online since the release.

Fortunately I ordered online at midnight from the studentrate site on release day and had an EVO 3 days later. I feel bad for people who have been waiting 3 months. With the 23% discount my bill is $70/month after taxes and everything. It kind of takes the sting out of the $10 charge, but the thought of paying $10 less with another smartphone just brings the pain right back.
Any other discounts that I dont have to resign 2 years for? I just got the Evo and im paying 100+ a month on this 79.99 play ugh, help!
Any way to get the student discount by calling?

If you just bought your phone and service with Sprint, I suggest hopping on a discount soon because it will only extend your contract for a month or however long you've had your phone. It doesn't add 2 years to the end of your contract, it just starts a new 2 year agreement. Unless you already had service with Sprint, you won't be adding much to the length of your contract if you do it soon.
I bought my Evo through Studentrate when it was first released and have the 15% discount. Are you saying that I can somehow switch that to a 23% discount without buying anything? Anyone actually done that and if so, how?

I don't remember exactly how I did it, you just click the link for the discount at the studentrate site. I think down at the bottom of the RI Sprint page it will say something about adding a discount to a line. Then you enter your info and Sprint will notify you if you qualify. YMMV.

Oops. I didn't even notice that this is for Rhode Island students and alumni only. Nevermind.
Thanks for the info.

Yes it can be done. S.W.I.M. signed up with the 15 percent discount and as soon as the 23 percent discount became available...he migrated to it.
Actually what you should have done, since you are a member over there, is read the 30+ page thread about this.
you dont need to purchase your phone through them or extend your contract. I got this discount directly through sprint, it was 15% when i first signed up back in october. I had to be very persistent, it took me more than one call. You also have to have the primary account holder be the owner of the .edu email address. I will try to get them to increase my discount to 23% now that it is a higher discount, maybe they did it automatically I didnt check my last bill yet.

The normal student discount is 15%, but there is a discount only for members of a certain Rhode Island education association that is 23%. Not every student is eligible for the 23% so I doubt Sprint increased your discount. When you sign up for the 23% discount online it clearly states that your contract will be renewed, but maybe by calling a Sprint rep like you did, one might be able to keep the same contract termination date with some haggling.
I get 23% off for being a Chrysler employee. Also can upgrade every year.

Go back to your SR account, go through the same steps as when you were ordering, get the new code, then go to the website that's given, apply the code and you'll receive an email within a day stating that you've been approved for the 23% discount. I've been rocking it for 2 months and I'm kind of pissed that I'll be loosing it on the 3rd line.
Oh, BTW, did you ever get your $50/per line invoice credits for each evo - should have been on split over the first and second bill. We never got ours, so I called, chatted and finally got the $150 (3 evos) today. Now I'd like to know where that damn rebate is...

Screw that. I'm in Idaho and qualified for it. Go for it.

I forgot all about that invoice credit. I'm checking my last two bills and I'm not seeing any credits. Luckily I keep all paperwork and I have the original order invoice that lists the credit that I should receive. Who did you call? Studentrate or Sprint?
edit: My rebate shows that it has mailed so I'm not too worried about that. Already got and cashed the 25 bucks from studentrate.
