Hi! My defy with cm 7.1-11 does not boot anymore.
The playstore asked me to update busybox app, which i did.
The app busybox sug gested to update my busybox binarys to 1.21, which i did. I choose normal install.
Now the phone does not boot up anymore, it is stucck on the red M with the bee and the text "cyanogen defy 7.1-11"
i can access the stock bootloader and the CM bootloader.
i connected to the adb and tried to push the old busybox 1.19
those are my commands
Code:
adb remount
adb push busybox /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell
# chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox
# ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/bin/busybox
# /system/xbin/busybox --install -s /system/xbin
# exit
the process went fine, but still no boot.
can you help me without me loosing all data?
Backup data from cwm, then try flashing cm7 without data wipe. If you're lucky then it should work, otherwise you can try a dalvik wipe. If still not working then use the system wiper script, data wipe and flash cm7. After that restore the backup and it should work just fine

ahhh... so I had done method 1 of lagfix and I was looking to do CFLagfix instead...
method 1:
db shell
su
busybox cp -rp /data/data /dbdata
mv /data/data /data/data.bak
ln -s /dbdata/data /data/data
reboot
undo method 1..
adb shell
su
busybox cp -rp /dbdata/data /data/data.tmp
rm -r /data/data
mv /data/data.tmp /data/data
reboot
BUT.. here's where I messed up... I accidentally looked at the wrong line of the undo and I'm pretty sure I did the undo method (restore to point of application)
adb shell
su
rm /data/data
mv /data/data.bak /data/data
reboot
So now when I reboot all I get are a bunch of force closes...
I can't even get into recovery by holding down the volume keys and power
i have a nandroid backup but I can't get into recovery to restore it.. i'm not sure if there is a way to get into clockwork using adb commands?
BUT.. when I try a SU command it fails bc I get a force close on the phone. I'm just lost so if anyone can help me restore this thing.. or at worst.. to just restore to factory settings..I'd appreciate it.
adb reboot recovery should get you into recovery.
recovery doesn't work. says not permitted.
decided to flash the stock rom using ms_gurus method in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728698
hopefully i'll have a working phone so i can go about restoring
hello
After unlocking the bootloader then installing the recovery image
then from the recovery image
i install this file from sdcard su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
everything run smoothly and i get installation completed
but then when i boot to the device, the Rom Manager tells that there is no su into /system/bin
how to install su correctly ?
i'm on ubuntu with Nexus S 9023
thank you
even market enabler app tell "we got a problem Huston" that means no root applied
i've mounted the /system from recovery mode but nothing seem to activate the su
help please
Do you have /system/app/Superuser.apk ? Otherwise I would try to flash the zip again from recovery.
no doing /adb shell ls /system/app/
i can't find the Superuser.apk there
even i tried to flash the zip files 3 times
and removed the superuser then installed it from market
still not su
solved
ok, now i fixed this problem
extract the (su and Superuser.apk) from su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip to /sdcard
Code:
./adb reboot bootloader
then choose recovery mode
then
Code:
./adb shell
Code:
export PATH=$PATH:/system/bin
cd /system/app
cat /sdcard/Superuser.apk > Superuser.apk
cd /system/bin
cat /sdcard/su > su
ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
chmod 06755 su
So I'm on the Latest official 2.2.1 from Motorola/ATT, but I'm having some issues.
My home button doesn't work at all and I can't get it to work despite my efforts. So I think I just need to do a factory reset and delete everything, I think my rooting and mods to my 2.1 soft ware may have messed everything up. Before I try this, will it delete all my text messages and stuff? or should I back them up with that SMS backup program?
Also, i'm having a hard time rooting it with SuperOneClick, it fails to work completely so does anybody know exactly what commands I need to just root via my terminal?
nevermind I figured it out. Here are the commands if anybody is interested:
./adbmac push psneuter /data/local/tmp
./adbmac push su-v2 /data/local/tmp
./adbmac push busybox /data/local/tmp
./adbmac shell
$ busybox chmod +x /data/local/tmp/psneuter
$ /data/local/tmp/psneuter
# exit
$ exit
./adbmac remount
./adbmac shell
# busybox mv /data/local/tmp/su-v2 /system/xbin/su
# busybox chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
# busybox chown 0.2000 /system/xbin/su
# busybox ln -s /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su
# busybox cp /data/local/tmp/busybox /system/xbin
# busybox chmod 0755 /system/xbin/busybox
# busybox chown 0.2000 /system/xbin/busybox
# exit
$ exit
./adbmac install Superuser.apk
./adbmac reboot
I copied pasted from somewhere else on this site
Have you tried flashing the 2.2 SBF using RSD Lite? I tried that for a different problem and it worked.

Ok I just reflashed it using the stock recovery then I wiped all the data(factory reset). I backed my stuff up first though. I was wrong in my previous post about how to root using terminal. To correctly root you need to follow this guide to the T. http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-nexus-one-running-android-2-2-1-from-ubuntu-linux/
I just flashed RC2 and it is loading now...
Hi,
I've just replaced the stock toolbox with busybox provided by netarchy kernel package. Maybe there is a better way to do this, but I'm just playing with my new phone
Anyway, this is what I did:
Info
nexus model: I9023
rom: stock 2.3.4 with root permission
kernel: 2.6.35.13-netarchy-nexus-1.3.7-bfs-2.3.4
busybox version: 1.16.0 (included in netarchy kernel package)
Entering adb shell
Code:
adb shell
Inside adb shell:
Replacing toolbox with busybox
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
busybox mv /system/bin/toolbox /system/bin/toolbox.bak
busybox ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/bin/toolbox
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
Add a new command
After remounting rw /system
Code:
ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/COMMAND
For example:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/chroot
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
If you know a better way, tell me! Anyway I hope this could be useful
Download "busybox" by Stericson
Install busybox thru that app
Uninstall "busybox" by Stericson (busybox will stay intact)

Or just download BusyBox from Titanium Backup.
Code:
# busybox --install /system/xbin
should do the trick -- be warned, you'll get *a whole lot* of symlinks to busybox

Great, thanks. I've installed that busybox and it works great!

Yes, I installed busybox in /system/xbin and it created a lot of symlinks, but it's ok because in this dir there is almost nothing.
Anyway, thanks for the tip
???
Weird! After running shell script, I can no longer stay connected on wireless for more than a couple of minutes. I think something was replaced and it shouldn't be replaced!
Any hint?
In most Android systems, the c binary stalk is installed in /system/bin and is handled by TOOLBOX.
If we install BUSYBOX with any of the apps mentioned above, it will most likely be installed in /system/xbin
So at the end we'll end up with 2 utilities handling some binaries that are clones as it show in both /system/bin and /system/xbin
and because the PATH includes both locations then wouldn't that create some complications and possible hanging/crashing of the android system ???
I just rooted my SG S4 Android 5.0.1 with auto-root. Everything worked fine (root complete and SU installed) till I think I gave a bad mount command in the root directory on the phone in terminal (i guess here it went wrong, not sure. Or perhaps during installation of bash or nano) when I was installing bash and nano. Since it rebooted, I **lost the wifi and cannot adb shell into my phone** anymore from mac.
Afterwards, I managed to flash clockwork mod recovery v6.0.4.6. and was able to mount /system, which enabled the ./adb shell again. However i can now only pwd and cd, everything else gets this error: /sbin/sh: ls: Permission denied
I think my phone is still recoverable, however I don't know what to do and don't want to risk making things worse. Which andoird wizard can help me please?
**Below here were my bash nano install commands:**
./adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp -r /storage/extSdCard/bashnano/terminfo /system/etc
cp /storage/extSdCard/bashnano/profile /etc
cp /storage/extSdCard/bashnano/bash /data
cp /storage/extSdCard/bashnano/nano /data
chmod 755 /data/bash
chmod 755 /data/nano
cd /system/bin/
mv sh sh.old
ln -s /data/bash sh
ln -s /data/bash bash
ln -s /data/nano nano
export TERMINFO=/etc/terminfo
export TERM=linux
mount -o remount,ro /system
**P.S. So I also performed a regular mount in root, which i think is what made things bad, but not totally sure!**

If you can get into download mode ,flash stock rom from Sammobile
