Will updating to 4.2.2 give better performance?

Hi all. I just got an N4 on the 11th and it is still on 4.2. I am on Rogers with an LTE package. Will updating the software give me any benefit? It is rooted and was rooted after the APN settings were entered. Will the boot loader unlocking and rooting delete the APN settings? I was wondering if this is why I get nothing better than h for reception. Thanks.

4.2.2 disables the LTE functionality as it has a new radio that does not support LTE. You may however flash an older radio from the 4.2.1 rom, this may cause fc `s however (some users, not all). 4.2.2 as such is however a improvement over 4.2.1.

Every time I flash a custom rom I lose 3g.

Every time I flash a rom I lose 3g. I've tried all the touch wiz roms like wanam and pyrana and everything works except 3g. It goes down to 1x. I still have data just not the 3g speed. Any ideas?

hi to help you out here goes,
its more than likely that when your flashing roms this changes your baseband (ie modem/radio)
to fix this you will need to remember what the original baseband was prior to flashing custom roms (ie when it was stock rom)
if you cant remember try phoning your providor who should be able to tell you.
then simply find the corresponding modem here on xda and wheather its a cwm file (.zip) or odin file (.tar.md5) flash that and 3g should be restored.
however which network are you on and do you have a sg4 (reason being is that its an lte phone built for faster web speed so if your seeing a (dc or 4g) all is well.
also you may have your settings incorrect in wireless and network/more/mobile networks
Yeah I'm on the sprint network and have the 9505. So it's capable of 4g lte but that's not available here yet. It is in Detroit and when I've been closer to there I've seen it switch to 4g but it's always on 3g down here in Ohio. I think it's kernel related as I was messing around with the stock rom and different mods like transparent status bar and different toggle icons and I figured I might as well flash wanams new version of the Adam kernel 1.4 and I lost my data connection. On the stock rom. I restoredit and it was back.

No LTE after flashing cm 10.1

I've noticed that my phone is no longer able to connect to the LTE towers that are available to me.
I also noticed that my phone uses "1x" when LTE towers are available (so that's fun)
3g and 2g work just fine but LTE refuses to work
Here is what I've tried:
Reinstall the rom
Do a clean install of the rom
Play around with the apn and network mode
Restart my phone
Update the firmware
Update to the latest nightly
What I'm going to do:
Install the stock rom
And/or install the Google play edition rom
Any ideas why LTE isn't working? And does it work on anyone else's phone?

I remember when i would flash CM10 and any CM10 based roms on my sprint Note 2 LTE wouldnt work it was broke on CM10 based roms well any non TW roms one thing that sometimes would fix the issue is reflashing a TW rom updating prl and profile then going right to cm10 but it would lose lte after a reboot for me still.
Also try a different kernel. Works for me when I only have 3g in an LTE area

[Q] Only getting 1.5mb internet speeds on 12mb

Hi,
This is an odd one.
I get 12mb download speeds on my home wifi if i do a test from my laptop or girlfriends iphone. If I do the test on my Nexus i only get about 1.5mb.
If I reboot the router (Draytek) I get the full 12mb again for a few hours then it drops right back down to 1.5mb.
Now I know you are all thinking straight away its the router but I have recently changed this from a Linksy router to the draytek and had the same problem with that one, so it would appear it is my Nexus.
I am running PA with the latest Kernal for it.
Any ideas or help?

In "About Phone" look for baseband (a.k.a. radio) version. But be careful, if you are using Jelly Bean ROM, your radio should be 0.84. If KitKat ROM, then the radio should be .97 or .98. Don't flash 97 or 98 on Jelly Bean ROM !!!

In "About Phone" look for "Android Version" if it's below 4.4 then you are on Jelly Bean (e.g., 4.3 or 4.2). I don't use PA ROM so I don't know which version currently for PA.

Have you tried to wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery? Also did you test your phone in different area because it depends on where you are compared to the cell signal tower.

I found this information on Google's support forum:
I can hereby confirm that flashing back the radio from M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.84 (default for 4.3) to M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.48 (default for 4.2.2), whilst keeping the rest of 4.3, did NOT fix the wifi speed and connectivity problems on my phone.
I then proceeded to downgrade completely to 4.2.2 using the Google-supplied factory images, and I'm now getting 44 Mbit/s down and 5 Mbit/s up via 802.11n, where on 4.3 with either of the two radios, I couldn't even reliably finish the test (it would stop halfway, with the download speed estimated at 7 Mbit/s). Besides that, I've now been able to update tons of apps from Play, where with 4.3 this was not possible with either of the radios.
Just in case someone finds this, the version of Android on this Nexus 4 causing endless wifi problems is:
* Android 4.3
* baseband M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.84
* kernel 3.4.0-perf-gf43c3d9, 2013-06-17
* build number JWR66V
The version working well is:
* Android 4.2.2
* baseband M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.48
* kernel 3.4.0-perf-g7ce11cd, 2013-01-29
* build number JDQ39
You should use a different radio. I'd recommend the hybrid radios 33/84. Uses .33 radio for connections such as WiFi and data, whereas .84 radio is used for calls.

I am going to give you the best info you're likely going to get as I suffer the same problem.
Don't reset you're rooter switch wifi on and off on the phone as it achieves the same results.
After a while of doing this it will improve the duration it locks on to fast wifi.
Also I think relocking the bootloader helps WHY I haven't a clue.
All I know is I have the same problem with the newest and fastest wifi available in my area and after trying everything flashable, settings in wifi and even patching my wifi from roms with my wifi working the results are.
1 go back to a stock 4.3 rom.
2 try what I suggested.

Just asking, but are you sure you didn't confuse MByte/s with Mbit/s? (Notice the lower and upper case B )
It would make sense as 12Mbit/s are 1.5MByte/s.
Ok guys, just so you know, Radio/Baseband has nothing to do with your WiFi connectivity or the transfers speeds you are getting on WiFi. All WiFi modules, drivers are present in the Kernel and NOT the modem/baseband. Hope this gives you clarity and prevent waste of your time fiddling with the modem to solve WiFi issues!!

Flashed enough radio basebands and pulled enough files from the system to know where both live. I am talking about interference something causing the wifi to drop suddenly as if the network is strangled (but its not) there's a few phones that suffer the same problems as I have read all there posts.
It's something causing it to drop turning it on and off helps for a short time in my case about 3mins tops.
It could be anything I just find it a little strange that on a custom rom any soap ,cm and custom stocks this happens but not on a Google image. So something strange is happening who knows. Just wish I did.

Is Nexus 4 getting wireless speed over 2.4mb/s?
This is the maximum that I can see at transferring of files to PC on same network.
I can't have it locked over 54mbps at settings of wireless.

Successful MMS and 4G LTE with Cyanogenmod on Sprint S4?

Has anyone with a Sprint Galaxy S4 found a stable combo of any Cyanogenmod build and modem that allows for: 1. Consistently successful MMS sending and receiving AND 2. Stable 4G LTE that hands off well between it and both 3G and WiFi?
In the alternative, any specific tweaks to APN settings to allow for items 1 and 2 above?
If you have found such a successful combination, please post here, and please be as detailed as possible (CM build, baseband version, specific APN settings, etc) , thanks!!!
Cheers,
VegasRooted
I hear you on this. I've had to disable LTE in order to get the phone to work properly, since the Phone would become non-operational after LTE signal would drop out.

Hope it works for you.

Thank you very much, I'll try the latest nightlies of CM11. They must be working better than CM10 as far as MMS & LTE is concerned. One last question: which type (and version) of recovery did you use for your CM11 flash? (TWRP, CWM, etc.) Thanks again!

I'm on the latest CM11 nightly (1/10/14). 4G works fine for me, but mms is very spotty. It works right after I boot my phone, then it stops working. I don't know why it happens, but I receieve MMS messages right when the phone boots, then it stops working. My modem is MF9. I'm not sure what exactly is causing this problem. Would flashing a new modem help? If so, how would I do it?
Update
Yes, I would recommend that you try flashing the MK2 modem.
All is working well for me now: MMS sending & receiving, good hand-off between 1X, 3G, 4G LTE, and WIFI, etc.
I'm now running the latest CM 11 nightly (1/13/14) with the stock MK2 modem, and I'm using CWM 6.0.4.4 as my recovery.
FYI:
Just for kicks, I went back to the last (stable) version of CM 10 to see if MMS played any better with the MK2 modem (since I would still prefer to stay on CM 10; I just like JB 4.3 better), but unfortunately I encountered the exact same results that had caused me to start this thread in the first place: bad MMS functionality, bad hand-off between 3G, 4G & WIFI. So... I guess on 4.4 (CM 11) I shall remain....
Thanks again to everyone for their contribution(s) to this thread, you all have been very helpful!
Cheers,

You can get the MK2 Modem from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760974263
The proper MD5 sum for it is: 39b0b32a8ee338543fdaa91ab2774f79
This is a flashable TAR, so you can just use Odin to flash it from download mode.

Thanks for help I flashed the new modem and it didn't do anything. I started apps from startup and discovered that AdBlock Plus blocks mms because it monitors port 80, the same port MMS is sent on. I fixed my problem by uninstalling ABP and I use AdAway as a replacement.
