Hello,
I live in europe, but bought my nexus 7 in the usa this summer.
Transformers DSOTM was free to download when I used it the first time (in usa). I deleted it because i needed some space. When I came back to europe, I noticed, I couldn't download it anymore. I also can't watch it on youtube (were it says, I have 'bought' it).
I know I can just download it from anywhere for free but I was questioning myself it it was downloadble trough the google play way?

Use VPN?

Market Enabler might work
Most content providers do not allow the downloading of their property from outside the country due to high piracy and low copyright protections. If your internet access is via servers outside the U.S., you will be blocked from downloading most protected content.

I just purchased a unlocked rogers magic for use on att. The phone and data work great on att. The market place shows free and some paid apps, but I dont see all paid apps. For example I do not see documents to go or the new copilot live gps software. Does my unlocked phone (not rooted) only show non copyright protected apps? I can see shazam which people say is copy protected. Can I do anything about this? Is my phone somehow linked to the canada marketplace store? Can I link to the US store?

The ROM is customized for Rogers, and Rogers deemed it necessary to lock down the market a bit. Going to have to wait until a cooked ROM becomes available or make your own.
This is a problem with the scandinavian HTC Magic phones aswell (maybe it is for all HTC-branded/PVT32A Magic phones?). No protected apps will show in the market on the phone. Paid apps are not available yet here in Sweden though, but there are also many free apps that are protected and not visible on Android Market on the HTC Magic phones here. If you root the phone with daldroids image and use market enabler, the problem still exists, although you can see some paid apps, most of them are protected and will not show.
A solution seems to be to flash the new NK02 ION rom, users of the scandinavian Magic has reported that they got full access to market when using that image. But there are probably many who don't want to flash a custom rom onto the phone.
This limitation seems to be gone now, at least on my swedish HTC Magic. I can now find all the apps that I couldn't find earlier since they were protected. Hopefully this is a permanent fix and not just a temporary glitch in Android Market.

you are right, as of today I can see the copy protected apps on my unlocked rogers htc magic which I use in the states. I'm buying my documents to go before it disappears.
Thanks for the heads up.
Is there any way to download paid apps? Rooted A500

If you purchased the apps using your android account and they show up in the tablet market, you can download them.
I've purchased quite a few and I can download them all. Some may not be fully compatible (fit into a tiny area of your screen) but will generally work if they show up in the tablet market.
I purchased the History Channel game straight from the market on the device even. Not worth $7 necessarily, but proof you can pay and play nonetheless.
The problem is that paid apps (along with some others - Google Earth for example) do not show at all in my market. When I try to install them through market.android.com I get a ""this item cannot be installed in your device's country". I am located in Greece. I had the same problem with Samsung Galaxy S, but it was solved using Market Enabler to change the carrier. The Iconia I have does not have 3G, so there is no carrier involved (tried Market Enabled and it does not work). What does it use to check your location. IP?
Most likely, which is very ****ty. As an American living in Mexico I get screwed constantly. It's tempted me to move back many times. Only $6 per pound filet mignon keeps me here.
It might use your address and credit card on file too though, I'm not sure. My account was made in the US, funded by US bank etc. I have access to all apps the USA does, but my prices are shown in pesos. Which in itself I find insulting.
Maybe try setting up a USA vpn on your router if it's available as an option to you.
Hey guys,
dunno if anyone has seen this yet, but any android user w/ a US amazon account:
check out their apps for today! there is a bunch of really nifty apps for free! get it now!
http://bit.ly/1sJLvkH
there are some interesting ones like Plex, Sonic 2, the room 2 (kindle only though ), root explorer, splashtop HD, and cross me premium (if you like picross type puzzles).
*damn it's good to be on android*
Or you can just go to amazon.com and go to their app store to check out what's free. (if you don't want to click on the link)
I'm living in Turkey and I have access to Google Play USA store even movies, etc without any kind of vpn
Also I have USA amazon account and I can download all of these apps.
So how I do that? For play store, you have to create us billing adress ( I copied one from new york mc donalds ) and you just have to put your credit card to wallet with USA adress. That's all
For amazon do the same thing but you need to use vpn when buying apps, but you dont have to use vpn when downloading apps from your phone. It's that simple

Hi,
Wondering if anybody has an idea on how apps will work outside US?
For example, I have Amazon Fire TV between Brasil and other Latam countries while traveling. I see different content on netflix. Lately Netflix is uninstalled even while on Brasil...sucks...but using my XPeria Z seems have no problem or while using my PC...
So would this box also be a pain in the ass if I am traveler? I can handle the limitation of some content but not the exclusion at all. Now I have a FireTV ready to go to trash can...don't wanna waste money again.
Thanks!
Limitations
Yes. House of cards is not available in Austria. Just as an example.

Oh, I know the limitation of content, but not whole app. I mean, the apk can't be installed on my device with current address of Brazil, if I change to US then yes it installs...
I assume it'll be no different than the Chromecast, Roku3, etc. If you subscribe to a DNS service that provides US termination (unblock US, adfreetime, etc) and put those provided DNS addresses either in the Nexus Player (if that'll be an option, we'll have to wait and see) or directly in your router, you'll be able to receive US content. The Roku3 doesn't support changing its DNS server addresses but using the router to do so works a treat. Even better, if you have a higher end router with custom firmware you can redirect only specific web services to use those US DNS services via dnsmasq, such as netflix, hulu plus, cbs, etc, while keeping the majority of your DNS traffic with your normal local ISP or public DNS anonymizing services.
The issue that I have seen is that you can no longer get the US version of google play. It seems like they use multiple things now to determine which version of the play store you will get. Shipping address on your wallet account. Country of the credit card you use with google wallet. Your phone location, etc... It doesn't even matter if you opened your google account in the USA and then moved elsewhere (like I did) you will still get your own countries play store. I can't even get to the USA google play over VPN.
This is one thread where I found some people talking about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169261
Basically, your experience outside of the USA won't be great. I have a NP living outside of the USA and I don't see many apps at all on the play store. Obviously, apps like netflix, hulu, and vevo aren't there. I have sideloaded netflix and that is working, but now I will have to rely on someone to post the apk file when there is an app update. Personally, I would like to see the apps available in any version of the play store. You still need some sort of DNS service that will give you access to things like netflix and hulu. I suppose this is what they are trying to prevent by making certain apps region based on google play.
The main reason I bought NP was because of Plex. While I do like my roku 3 I prefer the plex interface on NP.
Overall, I would say not to bother with NP. It's a VERY unfinished piece of kit. Typical of google to release a beta product as "final". I haven't even been able to connect to 5.0ghz on wi-fi even though it sees that radio on my router just fine. Wi-fi drops out occasionally on 2.4ghz even though the NP sits right next to the router. Recommendations are a mess. Voice search is pretty cool (especially nice to use in Plex!)
If I compare the NP to roku 3. I would say go with the roku. The only drawback on roku is the outdated UI. Other than that it is a much more solid device when compared to NP.
I will be keeping my NP and hoping that they can solve some of the issues it has via software updates, but I suspect that I will wind up getting some other android TV device as better ones come out.
I have NP outside US in Central Europe and here are my experience after a week
when I use my local google account, I dont see netflix/hulu etc in store so I had to create new US google account. It is easy to add/remove accounts in NP so I put there my US account, install netflix app and then switched back to my europe account. With US DNS I can use US services and I have US content there.
So there is no problem to get apps allowed only for US market, but may be a issue with their content.

I'm using it in a country where Netflix is available (France), the app does appear in the Play Store, I can install it and view content available in my country.

How did you create a US google account exactly? I am asking because I am from the USA, but living in another country and even when I log into the NP with my "alternate" google account that has a US address I am still not given access to the US play store on the NP.
I just login to US vpn, open gmail and create new account...there select US country and thats all
I'm planning to buy nexus player while I'm in U.S.
Can I access it in India? Or is there any limitation on it??

Hello
I have gen7 and gen9 fire tables. I am desperately desperate ;/ as i am not able to install any app on these devices (running amazon original OS). I have no idea whats wrong / what i am not doing properly and monkeys from amazon support are not able to do anything just waste time on chat / phone.
I need to install few apps that are for free, I linked both tables with my Amazon.co.uk account where i have billing/delivery address set to UK (but the debit card for a payments was issued in Europe Czechia). On gen9 i can browse apps but once i click on install i got error, same was on gen7 but today some amazon monkey did something and right now i am not able even see apps in the amazon AppStore... its completely empty.
I am not sure if that's because right now my IP address is not UK or if there is some other restriction? Even the links below shows that Czechia is supported.
