I have tried the GPS now for a while and I cant get it to work. I use TomTom 7
I have had it outside for atleast 4-5 minutes and it cant find any satellites
Is there anything I have to do to get it to work?
It only says "Searching for GPS-satellites"...
Hello, what is the version of radio have you got ?
Have you test with Google Maps if the GPS get satellites ?
Look at this post if you find a solution

Normaly no. Just active it for very bad reception satellites i think.
the gps uses the file you get with quickgps to faster identify the satellites. after 3 days (i think) the file is out of date. if the file is out of date the gps part dose the identification and cycles through the satellites. this can take up to several minutesl. try to activate quickgps und you will get a much faster fix.
I don't think his problem is about getting a faster fix or not.
He's GPS function just does not work properly and cannot read properly the datas received from the satellites, if it ever receives some...
I know the problem because i'm having exactly the same trouble with my Diamond right now, and I even started a thread about this.
You can read it also as a reference if you want.
I used to own a Trinity before, so I can tell without any doubt that there is something wrong with the GPS function on some Diamond, and it is not just a problem of waiting longer or so.
I read the experience from other users and only some radical measures have managed to make their GPS 'wake up' for good:
- erasing the old GPS log files stored in the phone
- taking the battery out of the phone for more than one day and then try to reset it again
- many hard resets and flashing
etc.
If someone who was having the same kind of major GPS problems (GPS not detected at all, Satellites not localized at all etc.) can tell us how he managed to wake his GPS up, that would be great.
With Google Maps you have a GPS Fix or not ? What soft do you use for GPS ?
Perhaps you can test with this soft if it active a good signal. Efficasoft GPS Utilities for Pocket PC
I finally found a solution to wake up my sleeping (beauty) GPS.
The most helpful infos were in that post below, but I did pick other datas here and there.

The funniest thing is that this problem looks like a hardware one, but in fact it's all software related. A problem of configuration, due to the A-GPS function probably.
From what I understand, if you use A-GPS (I mean if you really have access to this special service through your phone operator) everything is fine.
If you don't, then you may get into big troubles like I and many others did...
1) make sure A-GPS function is desactivated (nothing to do with the Quick GPS function)
2)
... just follow the instructions provided by the Oijkn on the link above.
3)
delete as well the file(s) GPSlogs.txt in the windows directory
4)
soft reset
5)
enjoy a very efficient GPS
Thanks everyone, now it works
It seems to be a problem with the A-GPS
Ok i'm happy for you if all it's good
Hi, the link to the post of Oijkn doesn't work, would you mind describing the procedure step by step to improve the GPS performance?
Thank you

Hi, i paste my post here if you can't read it.

hello excuse for my poor english (i'm french).
1 - Soft reset your PPC
2 - Find the file “xtra.bin” (dans \windows et \temp)
3 - Delete the file “xtra.bin”
4 - Reboot your PPC
5 - Prove that there is no more validity of GPSRapide.
(don't download the update)
6 - Try with TT7 now to pick up satellites
7 - If TT7 still does not work put has GPSRapide day by downloading the updating.
PS: Or try in manuel settings, Bauds 57 600 / COM : 4
You can try to launch Google Maps and activate the GPS signal then wait 1 or 2 minutes for the fix.
And then try with TOMTOM, i think with the two solution it's will work fine for you

Hi, how can I make sure that the A-GPS is deactivated?
I desactivated it automatically using a soft called 'Diamond Tweak'.
(I only have a French version of this soft, but if you make a research, you should find the English one)
Otherwise, you might be able to find this tweak in some other post, or in the wiki, as a registry key you can manually edit.
Hey all, Thanks in advance for helping me out here.
I bought the X1 about 4 months ago, not knowing at all that it had a built in GPS in it lol I only discovered yesterday. so anyway, when I start google maps, and connect to the internet, and press on Use GPS, it shows that it's looking for GPS satellites, but it's always (0). it never finds one. now I've been told to use TomTom 7, with all the configurations for using it with the COM number and all that. I'm wondering if any of u would be kind enough to guide me through using my XPERIA'S GPS?? I would really appreciate it!!!
Hi,
Did you add an external GPS device at any time?
Make any changes to the settings for GPS in control panel at all?
Generally speaking, when you turn on google maps and select use GPS you should, after a short period, see the sats picked up (4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8).
If you have an unlimited data contract, using google maps in the UK shouldn't be an issue.
TomTom 6 or 7 are probably better though. You may need to configure tomtom to use the internal GPS.
However, check your settings in the first place to make sure you have the tick in the windows management of your gps device as that should make things work with little configuration.
Click Start -> Settings -> System Tab -> External GPS -> Access for that.
Make sure you have also run Quick GPS to update your location details.
You may also wish to run the SonyEricsson update utility to upgrade your ROM/Software on the device.
Des. . .
You may also wanna download Nadavi_HTC_GPS_TOOL.cab (search the forum).
It does help you to get a first fix, as you can start with diffrent options, e.g. with reset cache.
Maybe stupid q: did u use G. Maps outside (with open sky above)?
Same as me... but when you use GPS out of our building or house, you will pick up GPS very easily.
thanks!
hey guys! thanks for your help! well, I did some modifications on the external GPS thing, but then i installed that program, that allowed me to use it. i think it made automatic configurations or something. well, I don't have the internet contract, that's why I'm looking for a GPS application that will download the maps and never use internet again for GPS! any ideas? other than tomtom maybe? but anyway, you did some amazing work! thanks alot!!!

Most PDA GPS's do not turn on automatically by themselves unless instructed or invoked by a software application. I have not looked carefully at my Jade clone's SIRF's specifications but most GPS under ideal situations can take as little as 42 seconds when warmed up to get four satellites to lock on to. Four satellites are necessary in most sytems are necessary for 3D satellite navigation (satnav or GPS).
What are ideal situations? Glad you asked. Basically, one of the most critical needs for a GPS is accurate time. This is the first item that must be sync'ed by satellites. To use a gross example, let's say your clock is off 60 minutes. In a car that could equate to roughly 60 miles. Satellites need accurate time because when they begin to sync, they will compute what satellites are available to sync with your GPS. Just like the sun, moon and stars are only in the sky at moving intervals of time, only a fixed amount of satellites are overhead at any given time.
Once your GPS begins to sync, ephemeris data (which satellites and the times they are overhead) is transmitted to your GPS. When combined with accurate time, the resolution of where your receiving GPS becomes easier.
The next critical issue is where does your GPS think it is. If the GPS was last turned on at the factory (testing), then it will store that location as its last known position. Guess what? If you're in Paris, France and your GPS was made in Malaysia, your last known position known now as initial positon to the satellites will tell them based upon time to use satellites in the Asian area to compute your satnav position. A GPS without a good initial position will make it difficult for satellites to accurately determine your location which could now takes a minimum of four minutes as long as ten minutes and maybe even hours.
Finally, where is your GPS physically located? In ideal conditions, it is outside with clear sky overhead in a stationary location. It's easier to shoot a sitting duck; a moving target or a GPS on the go complicates all the issues of time, location and signal acquisiton.
To help you, I recommend you download a small cab file that be used in your Today screen. It is aptly called "GPS Toggle". In essence, like a mechanic warming up your car prior to you driving it on a cold day, this plug-in "warms up" your GPS for you prior to needing it.
There is one thing you need to do to help your GPS - it is best for WM to manage it (a recommended feature from Microsoft). Go to the Settings tab, External GPS (why it is called that on my Settings tab is beyond me). Then click through the screens to have WM manage the GPS. On one tab you will asked to choose a Port from which all your programs will access data. You need to use an unused Port. I recommend Port 9 but that is up to you.
The reason for doing this is if WM manages the data, it will keep the GPS on and provide the resolved info to all applications. If the programs managed the GPS, they could selectively turn on and off the GPS and also block each other from using the GPS. You don't want that to happen. That is why MS recommends WM manage the data.
GPS toggle, when installed on your Today screen, will have an ON/OFF switch. When you turn it on, it will on the same line tell you how many satellites it has found and when it has sync'ed with them. When you see that four satellites are in the green (meaning your GPS is found ready for 3D satnav), then you can use satnav program of your choice.
The GPS uses battery power and supposedly is a big drain on smartphones. You want to turn it off and on only as necessary. Hope this helps (it's sticky stuff good info)!

Have tried to download - unable to open (as .php) - do I simply put the file in custom_ruu folder to then flash to the phone?
Thanks in anticipation
It might be a fake.
Open the Settings tab, go to "System" and look for "Device information". The CPU must be Qualcomm MSM 7225 and the full model name should be Touch 3G T3232. If not, it's a fake.
Thanks digsf.
Checked the phone and it would appear to be legit (just as well as it came direct from Orange UK)
It is frustrating that everyone else seems to be getting the roms to work, but for some reason i can't get them to do so - i must still be doing something wrong....

Cloned HTC Touch 3G
I went through the posts - I guess even I have landed up with a cloned HTC Touch 3G. Wonder what the drawbacks are. Somehow after a lot of tinkering I have been able to get my GPS to work (yes it has a built in GPS antenna) and it's accurate!
I set the hardware to COM 3, baud rate 4800
application to COM 0
In Google maps>options>GPS settings>manual settings (COM0 baud rate 4800)
IT WORKED!!
The WiFi can't be turned on with TouchFlo. Anybody has a solution to that?
Hi
i have read in a few other posts regarding GPS issues and Sat Nav software not working
now i have seen a few programs that 'kick off' the GPS and then runs the program and i have run these to no avail,
i was wondering if anyone else has not only had this issue but struggled to get it working, google maps seems to pick me up via GPS but tomtom is saying 'no gps device' go into settings within tomtom and set to internal gps device, and check gps status and no cannot see any satellites. i have had the phone outside inthe line of sight of the sky for an hour so me being inpatient isn't the issue, any help would be greatly appreciated
ta
Try this:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/GPS/GPS-Test-34335.shtml
Update QuickGPS.
If no satellites show up after a max of 5mins of you standing outside with clear view of the sky, then you either need to flash another radio or the gps is dead.
hi
thanks
have left phone outside running that, seems to be scanning com1-9..pausing for a second on port 3 then continuing. will let you know in 10 mins, what is flashing another radio involve?

ok stupid question time, but if it google maps seems to be working ok would that not suggest that the GPS radio is ok, and secondly if i did flash which one would i go for on that link you sent
i have radio version 1.09.25.14 protocol 52.49a.25.261u
there is a link
Download 1.09.25.14 / 52.49a.25.26W Radio only Megepload
Download HD_Blackstone_Radio 1.09.25.14 (with RUU) 4shared
am i flashing this even though my protocol is different?
and there is about another 10 files below all them called
Blackstone Rilphone.dll Cabs
all confusing can you help any more please
thanks
I don't believe anything google maps says in relation to GPS after it told me one of my non GPS phones had inbuilt gps, and then calculated my position using the mobile phone network.
As for which you need, well it depends on which rom you are running, whether it's a stock rom (bog-standard rom you get on device when you buy it), or a custom cooked rom from someone on the forums. I suggest you read up on it thoroughly then post in the correct radio thread if you want to ask any more questions regarding the right radio version you need.
fair do's
thanks
Did you have google maps open when you started Tomtom? That may have caused an error
hi
thanks for reply, no i open google maps it seems to find my location. close google maps, then open tomtom and is saying no gps device. the 'onboard' gps device is set on tomtom options it's just as if the gps reciever isn't picking up, same in other sat nav progams too, garmin is the same so makes me think is phone not software issue
AFAIK, Google Maps is A-GPS software, while TomTom, iGO and others are full GPS software.
Don't know about TomTom, but iGO DOES NOT work if A-GPS is enabled...
hmmmm. i'll give it a whirl, not got the phone withme at the mo, a mate is attempting to simunock it, agps is enabled so i will disable it see if that helps. tempted to get rid and get an effing iphone at this rate
Let us know how you go....
Don't give up, it;s a great phone
had the same issue with tomtom v7.450. using tomtom v7.916 now and it's running like charm
Just had replacement Touch HD delivered from Orange this morning, flashed to my usual ROM, and get exactly the same symptoms as Pete did.....
Tried:
TomTom
Memory map
HTC GPS Tool
Updating QuickGPS
Updating Radio ROM to latest version
Reflashing different OS roms
nothing makes a difference.
Not really keen to take it apart as i'll break the VOID sticker and probably end up in an argument with Orange, but Id bet any money that the GPS cable has come loose......so frustrating as im working abroad as of next week and i'll really use the GPS a lot......
Also just found out that the replacement handset is "refurb".....I bet the muppet that refurbed it didnt reconnect the GPS cable
Has anyone had this running on ICS i just cant get GPS to see it.
Yes, I'm running it on aurora 2.02. Some had problems in general with GPS location, and it can be fixed with GPS position fix app, like GPS Status & Toolbox from play store.
Also check the newest threads in development forum, you might find other useful suggestions.
Hey mate thanks sort of got it running can you explain how please?
Sent from my U8800 using XDA
Check this forum page, if you searched the forum you probably found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511544
Find the section with GPS FIXES and detailed instructions will be there. Hope that solves the GPS problem.
I have the same problem with other navigation apps from time to time. Inside the program drag down the status bar and disable and enable gps several times, this way it works for me.
You could flash the newest test version of Aurora (2.03), gps problems seem to be solved. See the development thread.
I can't confirm, as I haven't flashed yet the new version.

The newest build 2.04 still has NTPS server set to asia. Otherwise GPS works OK. If you get long time for GPS to connect, put the phone on some surface, because hands can block some signal reception.
Just flashed 2.04, looks good so far.
I just tried GPS in my room, agps data deleted and no data connection / wireless. Set the NTPS server to Germany with the app FasterGPS. Well, it took about 5 minutes to get a fix with 10 satellites but it works Tested with GPS Status, Osmand & Locus Pro
