Device Model: Google Nexus 7 16GB
ROM: PARANOIDANDROID 2.99 PIE3.1 (4.2.1)
Recovery: Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 6.0.1.9
I installed this ROM at the root of my SD card and wiped the dalvic cache. When I try to boot it, I'm stuck at the "X" boot screen. I've already reflashed my device 3 times and this bug is still there. I was just curious if anyone has seen this issue and if there were any workarounds?
I'm able to flash my device back to Stock but I really want to get this ROM working so a little help would be appreciated!!

First of all, that's not a brick. Not at all. You need to read the installation instructions, which would have told you that wiping data is a must.
Re: [Q] PARANOIDANDROID 2.99 - Bricked Device
You don't need a workaround. About a million purple have installed PA. What ROM did you try and flash over and are you sure you had the right file for your android version?

Not a brick. If you can flash something else it's not a brick.

Before I flashed anything, I was using Stock 4.2.1 but once I started flashing ROMs, I've been stuck at a boot loop even though I've wiped the data and dalvik cache. I seriously can't figure out what's going on.
ROMS flashed: CM10, LiquidSmooth, ParanoidAndroid, MIUI, SmoothROM
Recovery Tools: CWM 6.0.1.9, TWRP 2.3.2.1 (I have tried both recovery tools for each ROM when performing installation)
Each time I've been stuck at the boot, I had to reflash the Stock Image to recover. After I flash the stock image, I would try to flash another ROM. It's not like I have any data on here either so wiping the data isn't really helping as suggested...
The steps that I've followed:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Root Device
3. Flash ROM using either CWM or TWRP.
4. Wipe Data + Dalvik Cache
5. Reboot System.
Is there something wrong with the steps I'm using? I've been using the Nexus 7 Toolkit 4.0.0 to make things quicker but it seems like I should just use the adb shell and manually trace it step by step.
Nevermind, I figured it out. I did a factory reset before the flash and then wiped all the other stuff in order for my Nexus 7 to boot properly. Thanks for the feedback!

Trying to install a Custom ROM for the first time on Nexus 7 (3G).
I've been using the WF Nexus Toolkit.
I've rooted, unlocked and flashed ParanoidAndroid but I'm only getting a bootscreen loop. I waited 15 min before rebooting the device and attempted to boot into PA again. Still not getting past the Bootscreen.
I booted into recovery; did a full wipe then flashed the PA ROM again... Still not getting past the Bootscreen (waited 30 min before powering off the device)
I've tried to obtain help via IRC before posting here; as well as reading through other post directly related to the problem (even a few that were slightly indirect) but nothing I find is helping... so I've turned to you guys!
I would very much like to get this ROM working, so if there is anyone that can help I would greatly appreciate it.
I just don't know what to do next; I've never had this issue with any device in the past.. I've usually been able to figure the problem out and get it working. But now I'm just stuck.
What is your recovery? What steps did you do in recovery to install the rom?
Try these step may help.
1.Boot into recovery
2.Full wipe
3.Wipe Cache
4.Wipe dalvik cache
5.Flash ROM, GAPP
then reboot your N7.
...
If above method still doesn't work. make sure you have the right version of bootloader and stock image on your device for PA 3.15 or newer it should be 4.18 for bootloader and 4.2.2 for stock image (optional).
And if you've found that you have other version of bootloader than 4.18 check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796 thread for how to get it right.
...
Finally if you've done all the solutions above and still in bootloop problem just try to do a factory reset (full wipe) again after finish flashing ROM, GAPP.
That's all I can thinks of about this problem base on my personal experience facing bootloop problem few months ago.
If you are still stuck after trying the above posts. You can just try to get back to stock. Nexus Root Toolkit maybe the easiest way to do that..

Okay well i searched for a while on the forum and on google and could not find a answer to my problem. I recently got a new nexus 4 and decided to root it and put the rom liquidsmooth. Everything was working fine, i did the backups and the rooting went fine. I am using Team Win's recovery menu. So i preformed a factory reset as it said in the instructions to install LiquidSmooth, i have gapps and evrything downloaded and ready to flash but after flashing liquid smooth and Gaaps failing to flash i preformed another reset so i would not get stuck in a boot loop. i rebooted the phone and liquidsmooth was not installed, i then tried to boot the android menu and go to down to recovery mode but every time i go to it i get a nexus icon and a lock pad and its stuck and does not load.
I bought the nexus4 from the playstore last week, 16gb model and my carrier is wind mobile.
Try reflashing twrp

Sounds like you wiped the SD card. Did you format system or data??
Hello guys,
Unfortunatelly I installed the wrong kernel (franco kernel, milestone, actually only for 4.2.2) on my Nexus 4. (Before installing the kernel: updated to 4.3, then rooted, flashed paranoidandroid rom).
Now the device seems to be bricked, I have a bootloop. I still have access to the fastboot/recovery mode. I dont have any working kernel data on my phones memory.
Can you please help me how I get a working kernel again or how I can fix the problem?
Thank you!
Dan
The device is not bricked if you're able to access fastboot/recovery. A bricked device is when the phone CANNOT get into bootloader or recovery.
Just wipe factory settings, dalvik, cache (just wipe swipe if you're using TWRP) then reflash the Paranoid Android ROM, gapps and then reboot and it'll load.

I have loads of pics on my phone and have the same problem. Will I lose any of those?
After wipe u will lose all your data. But if you have turned on the picture sync with Google+ you get it back. Or u flash the ROM again without data wipe. (In not 100% sure if this could brake something)

Just flash the correct franco.kernel.img file in fastboot mode or if you can get in custom recovery, flash the zip. You wont loose anything. :fingers-crossed:
I recently got a nexus 7 2012. I unlocked it and installed the custom recovery (CWM) according to the guides given in the forum and elsewhere. The problem comes when I install a custom ROM like CM10.2, It installs fine, but the boot does not resume after the CM animation. I tried another rom like AOKP and even TWRP as recovery, still the problem persists. My bootloader is 4.23 and flashing back to stock ROM works as normal. Please help.
What recovery you use. And what tool you use to root. For I use WUG toolkit. And install TWRP. And install CM 10.2 with no problem. Maybe you not really root. Update your superuser before that

Stupid question: are you sure you are flashing grouper ROMs?
Tried a lot of combinations with ROMs and recoveries finally I solved it. CWM wasn't working with its wipe options and tried TWRP and gave the full wipe of all partitions before flashing CM and gapps and it worked!!!!
So I replaced the screen on my buddies cracked N4 with this: this. Everything went fine except when I put it all together the phone will not boot into the OS. I can still get into recovery and the bootloader just fine, but it doesn't matter what I flash it always bootloops.
I have tried WugFresh's tool kit and flashed the factory image, I flashed the latest TWRP, wiped, and flashed CM10.2M1. Everything seems to go fine, it will just never get past the boot screen.
Any ideas?
In case anybody missed it, yes I did wipe the device.

So I ended up flashing the 4.2 image and everything worked fine. I was able to install a new recovery and custom ROM after that. So far everything works.
Use the latest cwm recovery. Sometime twrp recovery doesn't work properly.

Flashed the latest CWM recovery. Same thing. I let it sit for about 30 min on the boot screen waiting for it to boot.
When u used the toolkit; did it went all well? Or did it got stuck on boot screen aswell. I see you flashed CM10.2. Try downloading 4.3 stock rom + 4.3 stock kernel.
Follow these steps:
- wipe factory reset
- flash stock ROM
- flash stock kernel
- wipe cache partition + dalvic cache
- reboot

Everything is processed fine when looking at the tool kit log. No error messages. When the tool kit finishes it reboots like it is supposed to but stays on the boot screen. I am going to try a 4.2 image and see what happens.
Have you ran a logcat? See if anything comes up why its sitting on the boot screen?

I never ran a logcat, however I did flash the 4.2 factory image and it finally booted. I tried to flash the 4.3 image after that and it got stuck again.
I was just happy it booted, so I flashed the 4.2 image back and put TWRP on it and flashed a 4.4 ROM. Everything works fine so far.
Thanks for all the help everybody, I appreciate the responses!
Glad you made it worked!
