[Q] SurfaceRT Jailbreak Tool - Hardware Hacking General

Hi Guys,
As I am a new user, I am actually unable to post is the relevant thread, so here will have to do!
I've been watching the development of Netham45's Windows RT jailbreak tool with interest, I have managed to execute the tool within Windows RT and it works fine, however, I would like to execute the tool from within the Windows Recovery Environment to allow sector based disk imaging to be conducted rather than using dism/imagex.
Unfortunately, whilst the tool does actually run, it does not jailbreak the device, it just permanently requests that the 'Volume down button' should be pressed, and does not proceed beyond this point.
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the tool to work within PE/RE?
Any chance that a moderator have this post moved to the correct forums, which is:
Windows 8 Development and Hacking>[Release] RT Jailbreak Tool
Thanks in advance, Colin.

Help & Is there a download for a Windows Mobile Emulator for my PC?

This might be a strange questions, but is there such thing as a WM Emulator that I can run on my PC?
I am new to the PPC world and am trying to learn how to mod my device. However I am kind of scared that I will mess it up, or 'brick it.'
Any advice on how/where to start? I have searched but all the posts or help threads seem old and outdated.
I feel like I need a 'Windows Mobile 6 for xv6800 for Dummies' book!
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
You can try Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0 (the emulator) and Windows Mobile 6 Localized Emulator Images (the ROM). You can also download Virtual Machine Network Driver for Microsoft Device Emulator if you need to connect to a network.

[Q] problems with Maqicq (Light Control Software) on Ubuntu for HD2

Hi guys, thanks for all your efforts in bringing amazing new things to the HD2.
Having Ubuntu on my phone should empower me to control lighting equipment over my HD2, since there is a Lighting Control Software named Magicq ( www.magicq.co.uk ) which is also available for linux.
As a complete newbie to linux I managed to download it, I decompressed it and tried to run it using bash, navigated to the right directory using cd and tried to open it with ./magicq as written in the short manual.
Sadly it did not run, bash said: cannot execute binary file
i suspect that this binary is not able to run on an ARM.
any ideas, guys?
thx in advance,

Click to collapse
get your hands on the source (not sure if that is available) and compile it for arm, that would do the trick.
but you can expect a load of errors if this app was never designed to work on an arm, you would have to fix them yourself.

Ubuntu questions...

Hey guys, I've been using Windows Vista 32 bit 86x to do some of my theming work and APK(s) editing and I do not like how Windows is handling all of this. I've got way too much junk spread all over (tools, folders, editing programs, etc) to keep up with all this. I've been reading on Ubuntu and it is the programmer's choice in using to develop apps, themes, and editing APK(s).
I took the tour on Ubuntu and liked a lot of what I saw and thought it was perfect for app development and other stuff. No need to download so many stuff and end up losing track of most of your tools and such.
So, what I did was I did a factory image restore on my Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista 32 bit 86x and got rid of everything and saved important stuff on my external hard drive. Now I'm debating the use of Ubuntu as the sole system operation or installing along-side of Windows.
What would be necessary for me to do? I hate how Windows handles some of my work and don't see how it will benefit me in continuing my android app development and getting started.
I've also ordered a couple books on Android App Development and Java coding on Android platform. I'm in the process of trying to figure out what would be wise for me to do with Ubuntu here.
Any help is much appreciated. I will be using the books to help me step by step in developing app(s). But I'll take any tips that anyone is willing to give insight on!
just for app development i dont think a linux distro is needed.
if you are going into compiling kernels / compiling android sources you might need at least a VM with linux running afaik(but a full installation of a linux distro would be better i guess).
Personally, I wouldn't ever be without a windows machine. Ubuntu can do almost everything you'll ever need but you just never know when you might need to use a windows program that is not available for linux. So if your laptop is your only computer, I would dual boot for sure. If you have another windows machine, then I guess it doesn't really matter. But umm.. what exactly is your question anyway?
I'm just trying to get a better clarification for using Ubuntu and if it would be more wise to install it along-side Windows Vista (dual boot) or install it as the sole operating system instead of Windows Vista.
I do like Windows Vista for other things but it's been annoying trying to get it to work properly because some tools work better on Linux (Ubuntu).
Also, I had Java SDK, JDK, and latest version of Java on Windows Vista but from other threads or posts I've heard that the Java SDK Manager, along with Eclipse, work a lot better on Ubuntu. But of course there are other mixed reviews from others saying it works better on Windows Vista or Windows 7 (whichever they are using).
I always do research before I go doing something that has the potential of creating regrets (due to errors or not knowing much about this or that) or gets too confusing and become lost in reverting back to the way it was before I did something.
I do have a Windows XP Home Edition desktop (the latest one before Vista came out). Problem is it got the blue screen of death (doing memory dump) and I never really got it to recover from that. I wonder if the desktop Ubuntu disc can write over all that and make it work again, but only as a Ubuntu operating system?
I've always dual booted. Mostly because the games I play on my laptop are windows games. Keep this in mind, when you partition the drives. Linux can read NTFS/FAT, but windows has issues with ext. So don't worry about making a HUGE partition as ext for ubuntu. (I usually make a folder in windows on my c drive to send files back and forth). If you're using Ubuntu, you might want to look into using WUBI, makes installation a breeze.
it is no big deal at all.
it is better to have ubuntu run on the hardware not in VM.
you can have a dual boot
and install Eclipse and the plug-ins which will provide you will tools for android development.

Port WP7 app to Windows 8

Hello,
I want to port my existing WP7 app (C# + XAML) to a Windows 8 Metro Style App and of course I would like to reuse as much code as possible.
What would be the best way to start? Should I just install the WP7 developer tools on top of Windows 8 x64 with Dev Tools? Will this allow me to debug my projects for both Windows 8 and WP7 (using the WP7 emulator)?
Furthermore I found this link from Microsoft:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh465136.aspx
Any further links would also be welcome.
I think this link answers some of your questions.
As for what OS should you install the developer tools on, I would think it is up to you. If you decide to install onto Windows 8, just remember that Windows 8 is still under development, and that it may not be stable. (In other words running your tools and applications on it may not be as easy as you would like them to be.)

Can't access registry on rooted phone

Dear friends,
Not sure if anybody still watch this forum but I will give it a try.
I have Lumia 640 LTE (RM_1072) updated to Win Mo 10 1703 (and later even 1709 with help of HWID registry change).
WP Internals reported successful bootloader unlock as well as successful root of the device.
Nonetheless, I struggle to benefit from that. There is very scarce information abot what actually the root allows you to do.
In the WPInternals intro video, @HeathcliffXDA says, that it disables checks on access rights, capabilities and privileges and run .NET console apps.
Nonetheless, when I try to write registry key from UWP app it fails on UnauthorizedAccess exception. I tried other things like to run other process from UWP (self hosted self contained console app for .NetCore3.1 on ARM) uploaded to Downloads. That also didn't work.
I am able to pinvoke some stuff from UWP.
Can somebody give me an insight what I am doing wrong?
Is there a howto for compiling .NET console app for Win 10 Mobile?
