Open the /etc/hosts in a text editor (that's what it is called 'hosts' file) and remove the lines for the ads you want to allow. You will need root access.
If you would rather not have any ad blocking there should be a way to revert to the original hosts file in adblock.

As per title, Can I delete busybox free, quick boot and supersu after rooting?
I have used the video title on youtube: How to Root the Google Nexus 4 - Latest, to root my device, was just wondering if I were able to delete those files after rooting or are they required? (I'll be installing ParanoidAndroid soon).
Thanks.
No they aren't required but what's the purpose of rooting if your gonna delete the app that's essential to being rooted?

Alright thanks.
I was just asking since I can save some space. I don't understand why I would require them still, since I've made a custom backup etc;

If you want to use root apps busy box(usually) needs to be installed and super user is a requirement.

What are you guys using for adblock on your rooted s4?
tried adblock plus, fixed the settings. worked for regular browser, and chrome, but some apps stopped connecting.
Surely, there is a global adblock that works on all apps on s4.
I use Ad away. I think its pretty beast.
Adaway for sure.
Adblock plus using easylist, that one seems to work the best for me on my tablet, and fanboy's list works better on my phone(captivate glide).
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Edit: Adblock plus isn't working after a backup & reboot, so its back to adaway

The one included in CrossBreeder.

I use adfree.
Download it from 4 share..

Ended up installing from https://code.google.com/p/ad-away/ via fdroid. Apparently most of the current tools rely on modifying the hosts file to direct ad sites to localhost..
Crossbreader looks like they have implemented something along the lines of pixelserv in tomato where it serves up an empty white space of 1x1 pixel, which I assume has aesthetic value, though I wonder if it provides a performance advantage to the above options?

Did you install this on top of the kernel / rom? I currently have kuban (rom) and agat (kernel). Can I just install this crossbreader on top?

Yes sir. You dont need to wipe or anything. Just put it onto to your storage and flash it from recovery and it does the rest itself and your good to go.
Read the original thread if you want an indepth explanation to what exactly it does, it is really thorough. Also be sure to also grab the uninstall zip from the thread and put it on your phone as well. If you ever want to take off Crossbreeder for any reason, just go into recovery, flash that zip and your good to go.

Wow that was surprisingly easy. I made the switch, to crossbreader. Hopefully this works faster than the hosts file method. I've heard good things about frandom, but no idea how to get it to work with kuban rom and agat kernel. I have a 64gb exfat microsdxc, so am staying away from other kernels for now.
What is your setup with cross breader (rom/kernel, etc...). My friends keep saying how their iphone scrolls faster and I would like to show them otherwise wit h this android.

Yup process takes like two seconds! :good:
You don't need to do anything to get frandom to "work". If the kernel your using has the frandom module, which Agat's kernel does indeed have, Crossbreeder automatically detects it and utilizes it. All three kernels out right now, Faux, Agat, KT, all have the frandom module so you don't need to worry about it. (Actually I'm not sure about Faux but you get what I mean).
I'm just running Force Rom 1.1 because none of the TW roms are actually much different from stock other then removed bloat and a little theming at the moment, so I'll be on that until the goodies start pouring out.
In the meantime I'm running KT's kernel OC'd to 1998 or 2106 with a few tweaks here and there in Ktweaker. Plus Crossbreeder 5.21.13. (Also installed Viper4Droid for sound modifications)
I was currently using adfree but it has recently become outdated and non funtional seems to be no update or support any idea or recomedations to new ad blocker

open up this zip.
take the file 'hosts', copy it to your phone directory '/system/etc/' replacing the original using a root level file explorer.
you just manually ad-blocked your phone.
Download FDroid.apk (google it cuz I can't post links yet lol)
Search for AdAway from the app. I'll manage the hosts file for you and is very frequently updated.
So, what adblock solution do you use? Since Google banned adblockers from the play store I have been using AdFree, but after I upgraded to KitKat it's no longer working.
Are there any other apps worth using or a hosts file provider you know of?
Thanks!

The idea is nice enough, but I really like the hosts file solution as it blocks all ads system-wide regardsless of app.
Might return to it if I can't find an alternative, thanks.

CrashROM has a host enabled adblock app, can't remember off the top of my head which it is, but it works well also.

Yes. And yes. It's a complete ad block as complete as it gets. It's got a perk in that it doesn't even need root! (Although it DOES work better with root)
It has options to allow non - intrusive ads too. Which is actually helpful that it blocks all ads that are annoying and let's correctly used ads stay so that good developers get their money too
