I saw that the GSM networks finally got sorted out for the Razr M, but I just wanted to make sure that im not going to be left without a cellphone. My fear is due to the fact that it uses a micro sim. I just planned on cutting my sim down. once I do, there is no placing back in my old phone.
So, my first question is, can I simply place my tmobile sim card in a COMPLETE STOCK Razr M and have it make calls?
Also, I was curious as to what is the lastest official android version through OTA updates. Im plenty comfertable with rooting and installing recoveries. Im just not sure if I have time this weekend. I was curious what I was going to have to put up with.
Anyways, looking forward to buying the phone. Hopefully if I can get the first question answered, ill have a razr m in the morning
If you are in the states it is locked to Verizon. If you are abroad the gsm will work. Verizon locked out TMobil and ATT imsmr. If you get the Aussi version of the phone you would be in biz.
I read somewhere that only Verizon can unlock for t Mobile and ATT. YMMV.
Cheers,
Feend

Actually, feendster is incorrect. There's a thread section showing how to mod the droid RAZR m to have full h+ data using T-Mobile while using the stock vzw radio instead of the Aussie radio. Here's the steps from that thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37153091&postcount=182

Ive read that thread quite a bit, but Ive never seen it say that I can just pop in my tmobile card and have it work with voice. I plan on eventually setting up h+, but I dont think I can this weekend. I just want to be able to buy the phone and use it as my primary for the time being. The area i live in seems to have been reaffirmed quite a bit according to the website given in that thread. But still, my original question remains. Can I take my Tmobile sim card and use it in a completely stock Razr M without making any changes.

If you don't do the mod, the phone won't read the SIM card, since the mod unlocks the phones to use US GSM carriers (AT&T & T-Mobile). Only other option would be to flash the AU radio so you can use Edge, but it's not necessary with this mod. If you follow the instructions, you'll see the mod is relatively easy and very worth it if your on T-Mobile (or AT&T).
And for the record, after doing the mod, you can just pop in the SIM and it works with voice. I had a T-mobile phone until recently when the touchscreen stopped being responsive, and modding this droid razr m to work was my only option without spending alot of money. I put the AU radio on the phone and got my sim card cut at a t-mobile store, popped it in the phone and it was working before I walked out.
The new mod in the thread makes flashing the AU radio unnecessary, as it fully unlocks the stock VZW radio for use with US GSM carriers (it'll read the sim as soon as it's popped in).
For APN settings (Data,MMS), i just replaced the apns-conf.xml in /system/etc and set permissions rw-r--r-- using Root Explorer.
Also, here's some build.prop changes that I added for GSM use.

So my options out for out the box use are
flashing the aussie radio (voice and only edge data)
or
The "BT Tools/ NV Edit" Mod for the lack of a better name (Voice and H+ in reaffirmed areas)
from my understanding, the 2nd option doesnt require root or recovery. I should pretty much be able to take the phone out of the box, install the drivers and apply the mod.
Is that file you attached the APN setting? I just planned to use tmobiles (epc.tmobile.com along with the other settings)

That's correct, in fact neither options require rooting or bootloader unlocking
I recommend by far that you do the nv edit mod, it's much cleaner and works 100%.
Also, both can be undone, if you were to need the warranty.
Once you do either mod, pop in the sim card and it will work. Ignore the "sim from unknown source" error message, it's harmless.
And yes, look at mic213 post and do (some or all of) those changes to build.prop. I didn't have to mess with apns, the phone somehow figured it out for me... I had to do it when traveling abroad though.

Well, I got my RAZR M yesterday, and have been using it successfully for 2 days now. I love it! Im coming from a Motorola Defy, which I was actually really content with, but moving on to this really was great.
Tmobile gave me a free micro sim, so I took that. APNs were also pre configured. What benefits do the build.prop changes add? I assume I can just do it with ES file explorer, right? EDIT: I just copied and pasted what you had to my build.prop. I couldent find the fields to modify, so I assume they just were to be added.
Hey guys,
I am thinking on buying this phone' coming from an atrix HD and really liked the phone but I just sold it...
Anyway, I like the size of this phone, and given that everything else is basically the same as the AHD I really think its a good deal. Then only issues I have is that its not as high res screen as the AHD and also that I feel I should just save my $$$ and get a new flagship (X phone maybe )
What do u guys think?

Wow, I'm thinking of switching over from a Defy as well. I love all the work Quarx and all the devs have done for that phone, but I think it's time for new phone.
I also will be on T-mobile, so am curious about your experience so far.

Hello everyone!
It's my first post here, I'll try to make this simple and understandable.
I've got an HTC Vogue (obviously), unlocked it last week, installed NFSFAN's ROM, everything is fine. The phone is currently out of plan, which means my contract ended. I want to change carrier (currently on Bell's CDMA), but I don't know where to start. Basically, I want to go with Fido. I read alot about PRL and those ESN, CDMA Tools, etc... Just want some help and small how-to on changing the carrier from Bell to Fido. I have another phone which is with Fido, (LG Neon). Can I get the carrier informations from this phone with some software/hardware or just common sense method (like calling them). At the store, they told me they couldn't get my phone on their network because it was with Bell, but I know there's a way of doing it.. There's a way for everything, and this must be easy.
I qualify myself as moderately advanced in computer skills, so don't be shy to share even the most complicated methods of doing it!
Bump. No one did this before till the Touch Vogue was released?...
I sent you a pm about this a few days ago.
Bell=CDMA
Fido=GSM
Can't switch.

Somewhat true up until last year. New phones that use SIM cards for Bell/Telus HSDPA network are now interchangeable with Rogers via some handiwork.
But yeah, the Touch is, well, a little bit older no SIM cards for her.
You should be able to switch to another CDMA network though, like Sprint (in the US) or Telus.

But HOW?
glacier 2.2.1 t-mobil mytouch 4g
temp rooted visionary+gfree_2
Is there way to unlock mcc to use this phone in USA and in Europa?
I will work my self in this direction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
But i wonder how MCC fits in to all this if so?
Deep in thought about this....ideas?
I actually wish I could post on that thread, but alas I don't have the power....
I have rooted my MT4G twice now after restoring to stock in order to use gfree to unlock it.
Eng S-off and CID is 11111111 but when I put a AT&T sim in there is no service. I'm a pretty savvy dude, and can't find anything on how to correct the issue.
I would love some advice even tho this isn't the right thread .... lurking has cost me the ability to post where I need to
gfree unlocks the phone. mcc/mnc/cid/whatever.
If there is no AT&T service - most probably you have only UMTS (3G) service at that spot, and the UMTS bands are incompatible with MT4G.
I was digging through the radio threads thinking it was something of that nature.
currently on the stock T-Mob radio....suggestions?
and thank you for the reply
Radios won't help, they don't change the frequency support. I don't have any good suggestions...
I don't know much about radios....seemed people were getting better service by changing them. Guess changing the radio doesn't allow for better reception of other towers, based on what you said. Thanks.
I think that in the unlocking process I may have hard locked it to Tmob. Everything I have found online says that a foreign sim will bring up the option for unlock code, but mine doesn't and never did.
I'll keep digging and post if I find any answers.

Radios will affect the signal and its strength, and may change battery life overall, it doesn't relate to the phone's frequencies though.
Thanks Ace....
I did try doing *#*#4636#*#* and switching to GSM only which on Tmob gave me Edge only even at home, but it still didn't read the AT&T sim, and when trying to set the APN on the Tmob sim it will save but not on the AT&T one.
Do you know of a ROM that gels with using 2G only and allows the APN to stick?

If you're using the stock mysense rom, ginger or froyo, try another one like CM or Miui. And if those don't read the aim, try a sense rom instead. It should stick though, when you save the apn, perhaps you should also try another at&t sim card, just to be sure. I'm wondering if the CID thing from gfree is related to this or not, I've never unlocked my phone, but it might be best to use the unlock, if you can't get the sim to work properly. Gfree and its CID method could be causing some underlying problem with the reader.

Just to update my attempts in case someone runs into the same issue....
Tried a couple MIUI ROM's (not a fan of them), CM7, several Royal ROM's (a couple stuck in their Android boot loop), Sense ROM's, and stock FROYO and GB....
going back to the stock ROM's - I flashed after formatting and wiping and the IMG did bring the phone to stock, but never turned S=ON. Today I'll be doing manual unroot to get S=ON and then reflashing the stock ROM's to see if I can get the phone to ask for a network unlock code. If I can get that I'll buy a code and run with it. I'm thinking that the Gfree method of unlocking isn't 100% compatible with the MT4G. IMO
Having an issue with VISIONary ATM on GB, but I'll keep you posted. This may end up being very helpful to other MT4G owners down the road. Thanks for the input guys.

If you flashed the ota, then you'll have to downgrade to froyo first. Since the stock gb can't be rooted yet, w/o downgrading first.

Yeah face slap after the post I realized it won't root on GB....lol moment of idiocy.
I flashed the stock froyo and still S=OFF persists.
I tried the unroot sh method listed HERE
No dice. S=OFF still there. I have a second MT4G that I never rooted, so I'm having a friend bring it to me so I can do some additional testing to see what the problem is. Unfortunately I dropped T-Mobile contract plan so there won't be any warranty swaps if gfree did create some gross underlying issue that can't be undone.
Ok so logical deduction says it has to be the SIM card....
Putting the AT&T SIM in the stock never touched phone, the phone sees there is a SIM card, but doesn't do anything about it.
My rooted phone acted as if there was no SIM, but the unrooted one just didn't do anything...simply said there was no service, and the phone didn't register that there was a phone number associated with the SIM.
IDK, maybe I'm way over analyzing this all, but I'll get over to AT&T and see about getting a new SIM to try that.
Sorry for repeated postings....
Ok, so new development for those who have the idea of using AT&T prepaid on a spiffy MT4G the issue IS the SIM
I was reading on AT&T's forums and it seems that they are hip to our MO and made new SIM's that don't work in regular phones. The gold contact area is smaller and so the MT4G doesn't see it.
I'm hoping that I can get someone cool at the store to setup a normal SIM for me to test. I'll post an update once I have gone to the store.

Normally it would be on, after flashing the stock/unrooted ota. But, why do you need it to be S-ON anyway? Are you planning on selling it?
Not selling, just curious as to why it happened to stay S=OFF
Old full sized SIM cards can no longer be gotten through the store, searching online. Seems AT&T wants to stop people from putting their SIM cards in unlocked phones. I was told approx 2 months ago they forced the stores to switch to new SIMs with smaller contact area. This is going to make things difficult for those who want to use unlocked phones on AT&T.

I flashed the stock froyo PD15IMG file and the OTA, which either should have returned to S=ON, but didn't. I'm not overly concerned with the fact that it stayed S=ON, but after multiple attempts and staying S=OFF makes you wonder.
It did take it out of ENG mode and back to SHIP
I'm trying to find an older SIM which is proving to be more difficult than anticipated. I would have though ebay and Amazon would have them, but I'm not having much luck.
Your S-OFF most probably stays because you were rooted with gfree, and you have the security flag set to off. No amount of flashing will turn it back on.
Run gfree again, with the right switches, to turn the security back to on. Use any rooted Froyo ROM for that. Then flash PD15IMG, and you'll be S-ON.
I had a feeling that gfree had done a better job with a true root than the VISIONary way I had done it originally. Thanks for confirming that. Still trying to track down an older AT&T SIM card to test the unlock. Nothing is ever easy, lol
Whats going on everyone?
My question is this, how can I use my sim from my phone in the A501? I have an att Branded A501 Tablet and an Att sim. I had asked customer service reps several times before purchasing this tablet if my sim would work and was told yes.
I then come to find out that I am unable to do so. Is there a Mod that will allow me to do this or is there a rom that has this incorporated?
Please help me if you can. And a Thanks in advance for any info is always a given. Thanks everyone for any info you can give me on this matter.

Could be carrier related as I know certain providers in the states were stopping GTab owners from using their iphone plan sim cards in their gtabs. They had to either get another plan or get another sim as the company was blocking the use of the unlimited data plan...
I have a Telstra sim, I put it in and it works, no problems.
Also, if you are running an A500 rom then it won't allow you to use 3g as it is a wifi only rom. Using flexstriker, which I believe is an A500 rom, won't allow you to use the 3g module in your A501 as you don't have the needed drivers, it is set up to only use the 3g dongle... Best to try Tabooney, Harkon, Little Honey or Moscow's Alexandra II.. These support or are made for A501's...
Cheers...
I figured it might be as such, just wasnt sure. I haven't really liked the looks of the other roms. But if I am able to get this working by using oe of the other mentioned roms I will gladly shift and mod it to y liking. Thank you for the quick response.

No luck with Alexandra rom. Moving onto another.
Edit: Toobay, also no luck on getting mobile sim to work. moving onto harkon now
I use Harkon on my A501, never had problems with 3G, just turn wifi off if you want to use 3G...
The Kernels can be a bit buggy too for 3G as most kernels are based on the A500... I use Thor's kernel in my A501 with Harkon as the OS... Seems OK....
As I said earlier though, some people in the states had issues with their carrier blocking their 3g usage as they had unlimited plans and the carrier didn't like them using their new tablets to access the network...

You can flash rom's till your heart is broken. You still won't get 3g unless you run on an AT&T network, with AT&T's own data sim. That's the harsh reality.
That specific ATT Acer a501 is specifically made for ATT. Currently there is no method to "unlock" the Sim portion like you can on most phones, as it resides on a separate chip inaccessable to Devs, and no possible workarounds.
Flashing a different rom has no effect. And contacting ATT will result in a variety of answers, each ending with no resolution unfortunately.
A lot of people bought these tab's, then went back to Europe only to discover they couldn't use them on a network. Should have read the fine print.
You may however, be able to run a 3g dongle. Don't know and never tried, but I suppose it's possible.
Being in Europe may give a chance that a different sim may work, but I haven't heard yet. I've heard that some people with phones, had their sim's reprogrammed in the Ukraine to simulate being on a US based network to, but when they returned to the US, they had to get a new sim

Again, in case I was misunderstood.
But then again, I could be wrong.
really appreciate the info guys. Ill have to look more into it. Yes I am running an art sim. But like stated, they don't like someone running unlimited 3g in their tablet. I'm trying to figure it out and have tried Harmon ROM but no luck. I'm wondering if it was cause I had WiFi on. Anyone at all had the 3g art sim working in one of these?
Harkon rom did work. My first install must not have loaded correctly. Thanks guys for all your input. I appreciate it!

What is an "ART" Sim? or was it a typo for ATT?
Also, you can check you APN settings in the mobile network settings if you have another issue, and make sure they reflect the carrier.
When you have Wifi connected (not just turned on, but an actual connection, the Wifi takes presidence over 3g. This is normal.
Leaving Wifi on all the time has an advantage. You can travel between locations without losing data connection.
The disadvantage, is it uses unnecessary battery power when not connected.
You should be free to try the other 501 roms. Just do the complete wipes and formats between flashing as per the instructions. There are cases where risidual files leftover from a previous install have effected a new install.
Glad it's working for you.
it was meant to say att sim, sorry didn't catch the typo before sending. Yes it is work great! I won't be changing my rom again anytime soon. If I find one that work and functions the way I want I keep it for awhile. Once I start my web design and development classes, I will be making my first official rom. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I really do appreciate it.
The community here is more welcoming and quick to respond compared to the community on my
mobile phone. Thanks for this also.

I caveat by saying the forum would not let me post anywhere but the general forum right now so that's why I'm posting here.
I've read a bunch of conflicting threads and info lately but nothing concise in regards to what I'm trying to do and need some help.
This is my first ever android phone. I'm coming from an iPhone 6 as a heavy business user. WiFi Calling is extremely important because my house has terrible cell reception. I recently purchased an SM-G935FD (duos phone) and I'm a USA AT&T customer. I rooted the phone day one but had not yet swapped the SIM card. I chose the DUOs because I do quite a bit of international travel and I liked the hardware of the XYNOS platform better than snapdragon. Unfortunately I didn't realize or suspect that WiFI calling would potentially become a problem. I could care less about Samsung or Apple Pay for that matter, nor do I really care about Voltos. But wifi calling is a deal breaker.
I rooted the phone, and I put flash fire on there but really don't know how to use it. I found some people saying that my phone can accept both the SM-G935F firmwares and FD firmwares, but others who were skeptical. And people saying that there were firmwares that did have wifi calling enabled and others who said no.
At the moment I am back on the iPhone 6 because the Samsung is useless to me until I figure out how to get wifi calling enabled on there.
So... I'm confused. IS there a firmware I can flash my rooted unlocked S7 that will enable this? How exactly do I go about doing that with either flash fire or smart switch? I looked, but I am having difficulty finding a guide on doing this. The phone is already a paperweight, but I don't want to brick it as well lol.
Thanks for the help.

Actually I think I got it figured out. I changed the CSC using TWRC over to an att USA CSC and that seems to have at least enabled the menus for this functionality. I haven't moved the SIM back over there to test it though.

I would move this thread to the AT&T specific section. My understanding is that specific drivers are needed to do WiFi calling on AT&T and it's not baked in and the model you bought is not sold in the states whether it's sim unlocked or not. Also, why would you root/jailbreak a phone running an OS that you have no real experience with? If you can't get it to work then I'd return it and either buy the AT&T version outright an have them unlock it for you or go to Best Buy, Amazon or Samsung themselves and buy the single sim unlocked version. You may still have issues with that unlocked version if AT&T's Wifi calling is as locked up as I remember. T-Mobiles wifi calling works with your handset but it also has oddities such as the TMO sim must be in sim slot 1 to work. Because that model is not normally used with U.S. carriers .. they kinda don't give a crap about it so the work is on you.
Since this is your first Android phone .. I don't want you to think this is a problem with the OS or even with Samsung. It's just how things work. Apple allows carrier specific network files to be pushed to iOS where that's not the case with Android. I think maybe backup and stop hacking on things would be a good piece of advice. Take it for what it is. I just would like to prevent another iOS switcher from running around saying Android suck because things didn't go the way they thought would.
Cheers.

Ok slow down. I don't think any of that at all regarding saying or
Thinking android sucks nor would I make such a conclusion. Lol. Also couldn't put the thread there, wouldn't let me create a thread over there (said im "too newb")
I'm a LONG time older comp sci major who works for a software company and has been doing consulting for a number of years. All day every day I deal with every software imaginable. It just HAPPENS that this is my first android phone, and Therefore is not that familiar to me yet. The only reason I had an iPhone and idevices (all jailbroken) in the first place was because at the time, my company was locked to Apple mobile devices. I'm actually simultaneously working with piemessage to try and get a VM up and running to allow me to use iMessage on Android
Also I understand their may be some nuisances of screwing with other packages and drivers. I did do the CSC update and that "enabled" at least the menus and the ability to turn the features On. Whether or not it's working, I have no idea. Without a SIN card inserted however, I was able to place a cal using google hangouts dialer without any issue whatsoever, but as that is a different app then the actual phone dialer... I'm not sure if that proves anything. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but making a wifi cal through Hangouts Dialer connected to my google voice number without a SIM card inserted is different than dialing a number using the phone app.
Unfortunately, the only real way for me to test it, is to take the SIM back out of my iPhone, call att again and have them switch the IMEI again. At least google voice wouldn't configure properly until I did that and it took forever to get the call forwarding reset. And my problem is I'm going on a business trip tomorrow and don't have the time to be swapping SIM cards back and forth.
Maybe I'll just put it in letter without calling AT&T and see if it works anyways. Are there any prevalent icons up at the top to indicate it's a wifi call being made vs a cell call?

Yeah, ya never know what folks know.
I've just encountered a lot of folks who are smart techies who have used iPhones for a long time and Android frustrates them and then they freak out. My bad. I apologize.
I still think you need to check the AT&T specific section. I've read that the proper support for AT&T's wifi calling isn't baked into AOSP like T-Mobile has theirs baked in. This could have changed but I don't think so. The other calls ie. Hangouts, Google Voice and Skype aren't controlled by AT&T so I would assume they'd work regardless. The wifi calling registers with AT&T's servers/routers ... what they require for this handshake I'm not entirely sure. I know that when I tried it out using my Nexus 6P it didn't work out of the box but I didn't spend a lot of time on it either.
Ah. I get you about the business trip thing. It's why I bought the unlocked S7E .. I have to swap to often when traveling. I did this after I bought the version you have. I found that 1 sim slot would do LTE/3G/2G and the other was stuck on 2G only and that it would random switch from sim 1 to sim 2 when I was in the States with my personal TMO sim and my work AT&T simcard. It was too irritating so now I just expense the TMO account and gave back the AT&T sim. Not an option for everyone .. I get that.
Also, I did read that AT&T likes to jack folks around on speed when it's not one of their phones and there is a fix involving the EMEI number being changed in your account .. I can't remember where on XDA I found that trick but I'm sure a search will find it for you.
Hope you get it working. The S7E is a nice phone.
Safe travels. Cheers.

What was your result? I'm in the same boat, thought this model would be useful for business trips. Also need Wi-Fi calling at home, but no dice.
So i currently have an iphone xr on at&t and personally dont like this, so i will be buying this op6t soon. My question is can i just transfer the sim card and set up apn and thats it or do i need to take the phone to at&t to activate it ?

You might wanna give this thread a look,I'm sure someone on AT&T will be glad to assist you.

If nothing else,it's a good read,as making sure the OP6T is a good choice & all the AT&T functions you want/need will work (WI-FI Calling/VoLTE/VVM,etc....).
Typically, you shouldn't have to do a thing as far as setting the APN.
However,I'm not sure about VoLTE/VVM/WI-FI Calling working,or,if it does, requires any account adjustments/account settings changes/etc..... by AT&T Customer Care.
I have cricket (owned and operated by at&t) and as far as I know service is basically the same. All I had to do was insert the Sim from my old phone and after about a minute everything was working.
I have AT&T and when my 6T arrived I inserted my sim and received service with no issues. For lack of a better phrase it should be plug and play. I did not have AT&T for anything.

That's what I figured, judging by the short time I used AT&T Prepaid a few years back.
What sux is, at least browsing their site as a non-customer, they (AT&T) aren't exactly clear on that.
They try to make it sound as if you need to order (buy) a new SIM Card to use in a different phone, whether it's one of theirs or, a BYOD.
Is Wi-Fi Calling/VoLTE/VVM working on your OP6T w/AT&T?

Nope. They don't allow it on unlocked devices except iPhones and a small selection of Android devices. I have tried a few of the suggestions in various forum posts but none work. It's not a big deal to me because I've always had unlocked devices since I switched to AT&T and I live in an area with for reception so I'm not really missing anything that I rely on.
