The title says it all, if I am rooted and not unlocked what use is CWM? I originally wanted it for backup purposes, but it says that with 4.2 backup locations are inaccessible and I have to use adb.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
Its as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Unlocking the bootloader is what allows you to boot custom kernels and ramdisks. The recovery is exactly that - a kernel and ramdisk that google hasn't authorized. So without unlocking the bootloader, it won't boot your custom recovery, and that recovery is completely useless.

I need to root my i9505, also a custom rom install, bootloader and so on... the whole lot. At the moment it is in original condition. In which order should i do this, i assume first root or bootloader unlock? And then?
TIA

*Nandroid backup of rooted stock setup + backup EFS
*Flash custom rom/kernel/whatever
Hello,
I am looking for a smooth method to lock and unlock the bootloader on my Nexus Player. Although being it is not a phone I guess I could just leave it unlocked... I am also looking for the best current method to root the Nexus Player on 6.0. I have been searching but I keep coming across guides for lollipop.
Thank you in advance!
Unlock/root guides are similar. They are the same except for the files used.
For Android M - i use fugu-mra58k. Use Chainfire's beta-supersu-v2.51 and it requires custom boot img, can be found on his tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps...ellow-t3219344. There is supersu2.52 but im not sure if it will have issues. My NP was already unlocked so I just flashed factory, moved supersu2.51 zip, boot into bootloader and flash twrp and CF's custom boot.img. At this point DO NOT restart NP, just boot it into twrp and flash supersu (you'll need otg+mouse attached). reboot and you should be good to go.
When I get phone I'm most interested in doing build prop edit for tether, installing custom recovery TWRP for 6P and AdAway would be nice. Loss of Google Pay not a show stopper. Would like to do factory image updates or modified images until custom ROMs and Kernels mature.
Can someone please post idiot proof specific instructions or guide links. I know some basics but assume others do not.
Also interested in verified method to unlock bootloader without tripiing Qfuse.
Any WARNINGS also appreciated, such as if you UnLock and have custom recovery you better not try to ReLock device, etc.....
Free Space? Will 2fs data partion need to be resized on 64gb or 128gb models?
Thanks
Is it recommended to first install TWRP prior to UnLocking Bootloader?
What happens if you try to flash TWRP after unlocking? Bootloop?
Is it possible to Root without modifing Boot? (Angler-mdb08i-boot)(not released yet)

XT1607 model (unlocked G4 Play) already Unlocked Bootloader, TWRP successfully flashed ... BUT NO ROOT YET! I'm stuck in startup bootloop after attempting to install SuperSU.zip from TWRP... (already tried the SUfixer.zip - no help) Also I tried wiping everything via TWRP. Is there an original stock firmware/rom/kernel/etc that I can try re-flashing to fix the bootloop? I can get into fastboot and recovery but I haven't been able to resolve the softbrick. I'm the one who always tells everyone to backup their data before trying anything. And of course I don't take my own advice!

I brought a OnePlus 6t and immediately unlocked the bootloader. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't as I'm not really sure I need root.
But now I have, I need to root to use various apps now that I have unlocked the bootloader.
When I first rooted it, I didn't install twrp but can't remember what I did and cant find any guides.
Can anyone let me know what process I need to root without installing twrp please?

Boot in fastboot mode, then temporarily boot into TWRP (fastboot boot TWRPimage.img) and flash magisk zip and reboot system.
P.s. "boot" command does not permanently flash the image.

Here is the complete guide
If you need root without twrp you can patch the boot image for root access
