FUBAR - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I tried to update my wife's nook color from cm7 to the latest cm10. I had messed up the partition layout before but she would never let me try to fix it, so I was trying to re partition it to the 1/5 set up. It will not read the SD card, either within the ROM or in recovery. I was able to get the repartition files to what the ROM thinks is the SD card but it won't flash. I tried to reboot into recovery to flash the reformat zip and it is now stuck in cyanoboot. It will not boot into recovery, ROM (CM7), or a boot able SD I made.
What are my options?
Force a factory reset and start over? I've never had luck with the 8 failed to boot method.
Thanks foe the help

You need to use my bootable CWM card found in my tips thread linked in my signature. It has been modified to boot in these circumstances. Then go to my partition repair thread and run those zips. It will take you back to 1/5.

I gotta say, you guys here in the NC forums are the best. Thanks form the quick reply
**edit**
So I got it up and running, just one little issue. It gets stuck at the bootloader screen and it wont boot into recovery. I can get it yo boot into the sd recovery and flash/backup whatever I want, and then reboot system. But it won't reboot recovery from cm10 or cyano boot menu

Do you mean to boot to internal recovery? There is none there after you did the partition repair. It wiped everything. And if you put a CM rom back on it, that does not put any recovery on it, just the rom. Go to my tips thread linked in my signature and there are several recoveries there to put on emmc. I recommend the 5.5.0.4 version for emmc.

From the sd card recovery, I've flashed the latest twrp. It won't go there from the bootloader or reboot into the rom

"or reboot into the rom". What does that mean? You cannot get the new flashed rom to boot? Or did you mean you could not get it to boot to internal recovery from the power menu in CM10? If the latter, try installing a different recovery to internal to see if the twrp install corrupted somehow.

Build.prop issue

I deleted my build.prop but forgot to rename backup before rebooting. It starts up with initial cynageon text but it hangs there and never makes it to boot animation. Tried to load SD card on phone to rename but I can't see any system folders. Where to go from here?

He's running from verygreen's SASD... so his stock is still stock.
Do NOT use cwr with that version... you need to use verygreen's built in recovery mode to update the uSD install.
OP, words of advice.
1. Do CLEARLY indicate you are intending to run CM7 off uSD or booting from eMMC.
If you NOT, other members tend to give you advice that not your intention to do.
2. Read the instruction from verygreen. Do make sure you understand what it's for.

[Q] Rooted Nook, but no recovery... How to fix?

I just bought a used Nook that came loaded with Cyanogenmod. I want to install a clean and newer version of CM, but it turns out that this Nook doesn't seem to have Recovery setup on it... I can boot to a bootable SD and install the new, clean version, but I want a built in recovery. I can't see to figure out how to get recovery directly on the device though... Can someone help me fix this?
Go to my NC Tips thread linked in my signature and look for the CWM recovery for emmc zip and flash that with your bootable CWM SD. I recommend the 5.5.0.4 version.

[q] black screen of death

yes i read before posting. first let me tell you wut i did.
1) installed schizoid pac rom on nook color......
2) as per instructions i formatted system and cache.
3)flashed rom
4)worked slow but fine. decided this rom isnt worth keepin on.
5)as per instructions when transferring from these types of roms to any other 10.1.x roms i formatted system/cache again
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this last step broke my clockwork recovery. :crying:
----now i am unable to boot after rom, gapps flash.
----receive following messages when cwm is pulled up
-----E:\ unable to mount system, cache and all the other ones that u can manually mount and dismount via cwm
so i can flash jus not boot up.
tried flashing stock image .zip for a stock recovery via sd boot and i get passed *read forever* and then i hit the big gigantic "n" with copywrite details and such but won't go passed that screen.
wanted to try the adb restore thingy but i need to be able to boot up the nook to enable debug right? so i can't do that......unless im stupid which quite possibly is the case. i had a moment complaining about kit kat earlier and am sorry so if i can't get help i understand. thx guys

Go to my NC partition repair thread linked in my signature and flash the repair and format zips. That should then let you put any ROM you want back on it, including stock.
You may have to go to my NC Tips thread to make a bootable recovery SD first though.

Just copy the 6047 zip to internal memory, then use the 5504 to install it from internal memory. No SD necessary.

ok i tried that problem is when i got into recovery mode it only give me two options normal emmc and internal emmc recovery, the other options are unable to select internal emmc alt, sd normal, sd recovery, sd card alt. Any ideas on how to make the options available?

You need to explain better what you want. I thought you just wanted to update your internal CWM 5504 to 6047 so you could flash CM11 without using an SD. What has cyanoboot menu got to do with that?

ok right now my nook has recovery clockworkmod 5.x.x.x according to rom mamnager (cyanboot bootloader is what shows up when i start it) the current rom is cm 10.1.1- encore i would like to update to 6047 so i can update the cm11 nightly

Then just do what I said in my first post in this thread. Find a copy of the 6047 zip made for internal memory, copy that zip to emmc sdcard, boot to 5504 recovery and choose install zip from internal memory, and install that zip. Then reboot to recovery again and it will now be changed to 6047. You can use that version to flash the CM11 zip the same way you did the recovery zip. All without using the SD. And the cyanoboot has nothing to do with which version of CWM you have.

Hello LeapinLAr:
I also have a similar question.
Currently I have CWM Recovery V3.2.0.1 i EMMC01 and CM 10.1.2
I would like to upgrade to CWM version to 6.0.1.1 .
I tried to copy this zi file to SD card, run emmc recovery and tried to update from SD card. It did not and aborted the update. My impression was that it could not update from version to 3.2 to 6.01. Am I right in my assumption?
Could you please explain the steps , so that I can successfuly carry it out? I have got more confidence in tweaking these things ever since
I did a successful rooting of NOOK Color.
I have other question on setting the clock speed etc to run at optimum speed ( I read yesterday from the forum that it runs better if clock speed is at the minimum, but does not explain how to do that0.
Thanks for you great posts and help.

Where are you getting that 6011 CWM zip? It sounds like it is a version for a different device. Go to my NC tips thread and get a version 6012 from there and try installing that.

If you keep the bootable CWM SD in the slot it will always boot to it. Did you remove it and try booting?
If it still boots to CWM, go to my NC Tips thread and follow section A15 to get back to stock. Don't forget to flash the format zip also. That should get you out of the loop.
