My N7 has bricked and using toolkit 4.0, i have flashed factory stock rom.
And when it opened using cwm i flashed a custom kernel.
Then when i opened i checked and realized that the root is lost, i tried to unlock it, but it didn't work as it already seems to be unrooted.
Then i flashed custom recovery and locked the device again.
But my custom kernel is still there and visible in settings.
So might that cause any problems?
Thanks.

When you flash a stock rom, it will get unrooted but the bootloader will still be unlocked. Just try rooting again. And I think the kernel won't cause any problems, but I also think that the kernel won't do much because the device is unrooted.

After flashing the stock rom, I also locked the bootloader as well, and the kernel seems to work, at least that's what the quadrant benchmark results show.

Does anyone know if its possible to flash the desire z without rooting the phone. If possible how
What are you trying to flash? If you're trying to flash a custom ROM, the ROMs themselves are rooted. So even if it were somehow possible to flash without prior root, you would still be rooted afterwards.
I am trying to flash a stock rom that was rooted but i accedently went in to recovery and it cant be rooted anymore by using visionary(+), x4root or the rage method. So i need to flash back to stock or need a way to flash a custom rom. If you have any ideas im willing to try anything
I believe flashing the stock ROM does not require root.
Also, are you S-Off? If so, you apparently don't need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM, if you are still S-off.

unfortunatly my phone is not s-off so i need to find another way to flash or root the device. I checkecd the thread link, But i have tryed this method.
I was wondering would the OTA update to 2.3 gingerbread be enough to reset the device to standard. So i can root the device and flash custom roms?
Thanks
I got this issue solved.
I used an original HTC ruu to flash back to stock.
This worked, And i was able to root the device and i have now been able to clock the device also
Hello. I searched the forums and came up empty.
I have a stock 4.2 ROM I rooted. When the system says its updating and rebooting. It kicks me into recovery screen and does not up date.
Do I have to unroot and re lock the boot loader?
I know I'm probably just missing something stupid.
Thanks for any help.
If you were on a custom rom before then your recovery is probably messed up and not the stock recovery. Otherwise I do not know what it is that can be doing it because every time I would flash back to stock 4.2 I would get prompted to update to 4.2.1 and as well to note I have an unlocked bootloader and from what I have read before being rooted shouldnt make a difference.
Perhaps you could grab the toolkit and flash the stock recovery that is in it to your N7 and see if that helps you out.

Crap. I was hoping I didn't have to reflash. I dont have a custom ROM never have. I just unlocked this and rooted.
I'm going to try the toolkit when I get home revert from stock to stock, see if the update takes then.
Thanks for you help.
Edit. Looks like I have twrp recovery. This is my issue I assume. Is there a zip I can just flash to update
I have removed twrp back to stock recovery. Now when system reboots to install update, it stats the update then gives me a error. No error code just error. I really dont want to wipe my device as I have it setup for my liking.
I'm using wug's toolkit
I think (...and may be wrong...), but if you modified anything in /system (deleted any of the stock apps and/or updated them) it won't update either.

Ok so here is my situation. I took the OTA to NB1(4.4.2) then I downgraded back to MK2 so I could have root access. Then I reinstalled NB1 stock rom. Now I have root access with stock 4.4.2 on my i337 GS4. Now what I'm trying to do is install clockwork mod recovery or TWRP or any other recovery other than safestrap but I'm not able too or cannot find a way. Has any one had this issue I'm new to this and I am trying to run google edition Roms or customer roms. Also with safestrap(3.71) some roms are enabled but once phone reboots it stay on black screen. Any help or advice is appreciated thank you.:silly:

You cant install any other recovery besides ss, since our bootloader is locked. You also have not been able to run google edition roms since mf3. You can now only run touchwiz roms.

At this time you cannot unlock your bootloader. As far as I know, @Hashcode is still trying to get Kexec working with safestrap using jeboo's bypasslkm exploit to load unsigned modules. If he gets that working, we will be able to basically put any kernel we want over the stock kernel. I think ran into trouble with flushing the cache.

I'll keep an eye out for that thanks.
Hi. My wife has a sm-g900v rooted running optimal ROM 15 odex. (Pretty sure that's BOG5). Anyways, in order to get to safestrap I use the NI2 kernel installer app, then when I'm done in safestrap I flash the stock bog5 kernel and away we go. Everything seems to be working fine, but it seems to be an awful lot of gyrations just to get into a twrp-style recovery. I haven't been on this forum in forever (too busy playing with my Turbo), so I was wondering if a.) There was any progress on the unlocking the bootloader and b.) Assuming the bootloader stays locked, is there a better way to access safestrap? Thanks.

Sure go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/guide-safestrap-access-odin-t3126686
download NI2flasher.apk and download the kernel of your rom. When you want to flash just run the NI2flasher.apk, it will auto reboot your device to Safestrap. After you done flash what ever rom, just flash the kernel then boot up. Done. FYI, some TW custom rom, doesn't require to flash the stock kernel since it already build in, so just read the OP for the rom.
So I have converted my Note for to developer and have an unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP through Odin. I have tried a few times to gain root by installing SuperSU through TWRP, but it just manages to keep looping my phone after it installs. Is there a way to install SuperSU without doing it through TWRP as I think that's the problem?
Also I wouldn't be able to install a ROM until I gain root correct?
Thank you for all of your help

So yea.I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but I'm having thebsane issue. I've converted to Dev edition, installed TWRP, and am currently running CM 13. However, whenever I try to use an app that requires root, it says that I don't have root.
I've tried flashing the latest Super SU in recovery, downloading Super SU from the play store, and I've tried flashing the Emotion kernel (when i try to flash that, my screen goes black and I'm returned to my recovery home)
What pre rooted ROMs are out?
And are my issues rooting because I flashed a 6.0,1 ROM before getting permanent root?

Cool, thanks got it to work!
Now my only issue is that once I was rooted and everything I wanted to flash CM13.
I shut down my phone and went into TWRP, I restored and the tried to install CM13+Gapps and it just went into a black screen and started over. I rebooted, but now I'm in a boot loop.
So I am going to start over and regain root, but do you know if I did something incorrectly? How would I go about it? Thank you.

Hmm im not sure (i'm running stock + Emotion kernel). But if you want to go CM13, you dont need to flash the Emotion kernel.
EDIT: you did a full factory reset (via recovery) before you flashed CM13 right?

Yes I did, but I had the Emotion Kernal installed. That's probably why, I'm going to attempt right now to flash SuperSu then CM13.

Cm13 is pre-rooted, root is embedded in the rom, superSu isn't needed, you can turn it on in developer settings.

Yea, try with stock kernal. I don't think you need to flash SS when flashing CM13 though
For me, when I try to flash CM13 through TWRP it'll get to saying "MTP Enabled" in the terminal window, then black screens for a few seconds, and reboots to TWRP. It also doesn't flash CM13, and I'm at a loss for what to do
