[Q] MultiWindow Tasking of Youtube - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

Since Android JB 4.1.2 now allows for Cascading of windows, are you able to "listen" to Youtube Videos using the Official Video App by having it work in the background?

Well, if you were going to do that, isn't it easier to use Radio for Youtube (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5BdG9tYXguYW5kcm9pZC5Zb3V0dWJlUmFkaW8iXQ..) ? I remember using it to listen to Legend of Korra soundtracks in the background and that it's a pretty good app.
edit:
so I just tried it (on the note right now) and yes it works as a background Cascade thing.

YOutube vidoes hardly play.

So I have a Hero... and at fist it had bad quality until I found out that the setting could be changed. Now, my problem is that I can only play 1 out of 10 videos I try and play, it sucks... is there anything I can do to fix it and is anyone else having this problem??
yea, alot of videos dont work from the youtube app, even more dont work from youtube via the web browser + going through the browser gives ****ty quality
lets hope htc fix this up in 2.0/2.1 when they release it with the sense ui!

i heard in 2.0 most videos work cause of flash 10?
So I need 2.0?? How do I get it?
Also, is there maybe a differnt app or program that allows me to play youtube videos that isn't the one that comes with the phone? links if any plz.
are you on the stock rom? i'm using modaco's 3.0 and haven't got any problems, either on 3g or wifi.
there might be some media player apps that play streaming videos. on windows mobile, i used to use 'coreplayer' to stream youtube videos, worked well. there's gotta be one or two on android that do this??
btw, where is the setting to change the quality?
android really needs a coreplayer i miss the youtube on that works flawlessly
*EDIT*
maybe i spoke to soon
http://forum.corecodec.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2885
nice!!! android needs this!
yes.. please.. what to do.. to fix this ??
I dont like.. that we have a youtube app.. that is 1/10 working!
any one.. have ideas ??
I think Youtube are using some Flash10 exclusive coding techniques that our beloved Hero can't handle due to the Hero actually don't have a full blown Flash10 support...
This would make sense, except that before I got the hero I had the mytouch and youtube app worked great with little to no problems (I've tried it on both a stock and rooted rom on both hero and mytouch). I'm having a hard time understanding why the hero has problems with it.
I do find that sometime if I go into a task manager and kill youtube and start it again it works for a bit. It seems also that changing the quality of the video causes it to quit working too.
I must be very lucky every single video i tryed to watch worked fine with stock ROM...
Maybe is connection related...or just pure luck
They should work as if I'm not mistake the youtube player links to the mp4 feed, he may need to update his rom to the latest version which plays smoothly.

Youtube / video player problem

So I noticed now that youtube mobile now opens videos directly in the browser. Good idea, but buggy. It wont let the video go fullscreen in landscape (play controls and status bar wont go away)
Is there a way to make it so it will use the actual youtube app for videos again, not this in-browser player that force closes and, well, sucks?

Go to settings, manage applications and then go to browser and youtube and clear defaults...next time you go to a youtube video from within your browser, be sure to choose youtube app when the option comes up and check the default box.
There are no defaults set. It just opens it via browser, not the app how I would like

watch youtube and multitask?

I cant seem to find a way to watch a youtube video and do other things on my tablet such as browse the web or open up another app. Ive tried the youtube app and the website but neither let me multitask and still play a video.
Is it possible to do so?

i don't believe so
while multi tasking on android; android freezes the app in RAM till you return to it
i believe the only android device that can truly multi task ie watching youtube and emails etc is the Sprint Kyocera but thats a phone

That's the closest thing you are going to get.
Dolphin browser mini lets you have a flash app play in a background tab. Not when you switch apps though.
Maybe this app will help?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gtmusic.ghosttown
Thanks for the link to Ghosttown..that's a great app. Only one little niggle with it though....
because it takes the video from youtube, it doesn't distinguish between the album versions and the live versions....it won't filter...so when you choose an album...you could get all kinds of versions of a tune, not necessarily the proper one from the album chosen.

Youtube in background

Is there any way i can play youtube in the background on my tab?
Simple answer: no.
Slightly less simple answer. The Youtube app would have to be coded in such a way that allows it to output audio in the background (like most music player apps). Google would never allow such a thing because using Youtube to listen to music kind of goes against the intended purpose: watching videos.
If you mean while browsing the web it's possible if you use the Overscreen Browser. It will let you have floating windows that are resizeable, and you can view YouTube in a separate window or native app while browsing elsewhere at the same time. (or any other app, for that matter)
not entirely accurate - download an app called Stick It - and it will let you play videos as well as youtube in a floating window

[HowTo] Watch videos in youtube with higher quality than youtube's application

Ok, some of you may already know about this but allow me please to make this thread for people who dont know and rely on youtube's app to watch their videos. I was constantly being annoyed of watching videos in the official youtube app which are supposed to be hd but they all would look like blurred and of low quality, although i had selected in settings the HQ (High Quality) option. The problem is that these videos are being played in standard 480p definition and there's nothing you can do about it. Here's how its done:
4.2 JB
1) Install Mozilla's Firefox Browser from playstore (unfortunately chrome does not support flash)
2) Download and install manually Adobe's Flash player from here http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html Scroll down where it says Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 and download the latest version 11.1.115.81
3) Open Firefox, go to settings->display->plugins and select enabled
4) Still in Firefox go to tools->Add-ons->Browse all firefox add-ons, search for the add-on Phony and install it
5) Now under settings there is an option named Phony, press it and under Select User Agent chose Desktop Firefox. Finally restart the firefox
4.4 KitKat
1) Install Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Jetpack from the playstore
2) In doplhin's settings menu enable the flash player (always on), enable the dolphin jetpack and select for user agent desktop
3) Install the hacked flash player from here
Now you re set. Put the url of youtube, navigate to the video you want to watch and press the little gear in the bottom right corner of youtube's video, select 720p or 1080p if the video supports it and watch it in really high definition. Needless to say that i never used youtube's app anymore to watch my videos as i can manage my playlists, turn on or off the annotations, put captions etc. like i do in my desktop computer
*ALTERNATIVE APP* If you want to stay away from the trouble of installing flash player and you want to use an app for viewing youtube videos you should check the Viral Floating Youtube Popup app. It supports hd playback, a resizable player to run along with other apps, background playback and many other cool features. Check the developer's original thread here.
You do realize all that is unnecessary, right? All you have to do is install flash, run the native LG browser, and switch to desktop view. Youtube will then allow 1080p resolution via the gear icon.
Fantastic guide, being stuck on 480p was not very helpful as many of the videos for me came out blurry and not to the full definition. Now I am able to watch videos I have uploaded to the internet in full HD, thank you so much for the guide and for it to be in-depth, as I hate guides which are only a few sentences. The 1080p will work best depending on your internet, as I have fast internet in my house so it should not be a problem with lag etc.

Thank you, all I did was install flash and then it worked.
It's completely ridiculous that we have to do even that though, I can't believe that the youtube app's "HD" is still not even proper 720.

I ve used your app but i can only change resolution to 720p and not to 1080p as well as it crashes quite often when i press to play in the background. I use pvstar+ now which runs perfectly but it doesnt support hd resolution. In my humble opinion the best way is to watch the videos from firefox

480p and 1080p are now not available in any app since google split the streams in to. 720p should work fine. Can you grab a log of the crash?
You can try another way for background play, press the pop-up icon, then in the pop-up window, press minimise.

I switched to your app as pvstar doesnt support hd. I have to admit that your app is the best of its kind, everything is nicely organised and the best feature by far is the background and resizable player, this app is definitely worthy 5 stars. I understand now the reason that you dont have 1080p, anyway there isnt any noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p in this tablet's display. When i had first installed it some weeks ago i noticed that it crashed 2 or 3 times after some long usage and displaying the same error every time, i dont remember it exactly though, something about "we re sorry but the application has crashed"?. I dont know how to take a log if that happens again, maybe you could tell me a way or i could get a screenshot and report it if it happens again. Keep up the good work mate.
I have a GPE and can't get flash to work in Firefox, Dolphin, or the AOSP browser. Works on my GNex. Puzzling.
I can't see the sig, but have you tried og youtube from XDA?
There you should be able to select the qualitiy you want.
Additional, it has a download button

On GPE You need a hacked flash player for KitKat. There's download link in OP point 2, here:
[Guide][Flash]How to play flash video on Android 4.4 Kitkat
Install latest Dolphin browser from play store, enable jetpack in settings and flash. I personally set flash in Dolphin 'on demand' just not to see all this flash adverts on web pages.
Works good on my nexus 5.
Ah, that's it. I have 4.3 on the GNex. Thanks for the link to the hacked flash--it's working. The app in the sig, is "viral". It looks cool, but I haven't tried it yet.

Which app and in whose signature do you mean is viral? Did you scan it with antivirus and it dejected some virus on it?
LMT from my signature was the reason I rooted my first phone. It's outstanding with customizations. It works even on not rooted devices (except of back and menu buttons), you can still make shortcuts to lot of apps to start them from pie.
You need root for full functionality.
Meisterqn said ermacwins sig wasn't visible, so I was saying that the app being referred in that post is named "viral".

I've got this app and the quality looks miles better than youtube app, which looks grainy and pixelated.
Only thing is, all video's are set to 720p with no option to go into 1080p.
Is that normal, or this something with youtube? Also im using Mahdi Rom.
