Microphone on ICS and Jelly Bean for Kindle Fire. - Kindle Fire General

Hello, I wanted to ask a question about why a mic works on Gingerbread ROMs but not on ICS or JB. I've tested a lot of ROMs and I've managed to make the Mic work once only in GB. I don't know much about how this works but I think its a driver problem or something because I installed a the Stock GB Sound Recorder on a JB ROM but now it wouldn't work. Could someone help if there's a way to make the Mic work on JB or at least ICS. I really don't like GB and would like to use this ability on a actual good OS such as JB 4.2.

+1 justice bump.
Badly want mic functionality on these versions as well...ideally Jellybean, but I figure progress is progress and ICS is better than nothing.
/sacrificing a chicken to the dev gods

Was thinking the same thing. I saw hashcode say he was hoping to have it working in his next ROM update but that came out yesterday and no mention of it.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Jelly Bean using xda app-developers app

No, it hasn't been fixed yet, I have his latest update and still doesn't work. If there there's no help or installation of the Mic on the JB than I will find a way do so, but i prefer a actual developer who DOES know how to fix this problem because I am not very skilled at this sort of things.

Working on the Mic and so far made little progress. So far only got the Mic to be recognized but cant read what I say. I guess progress is progress but I need help because it's quite complicated.

Sorry, this topic will be inactive since I had to return many Kindle for Replacement and will start to work when I get another one and root it again. Sorry for any inconvenience, will start to work on Mic. as soon as I get my Kindle back.

One issue I know of is that you need the exact version of Google Voice Search to use some voice based features. That being said, in ICS and JellyBean much has changed in terms of Voice Search so that could be an issue. I think its a kernel issue with 3.x kernels, but lets wait till hashcode tries a fix

I’ve also ran into this problem, but even though I probably won't be able to solve this problem maybe I could do some kernel editing (if it's possible). Will still continue to work on this, but first I will wait on Hashcode for the fix first

Yes, just make sure you have the Mic Update.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770672 Page 3 by @sbradymobile . Use the Update.zip, just flash in recovery. Also Hashcode, I think, has it in the 3.4 Kernel.

Chrome doesn't work in most ICS ROMs because it requires HWA, which they don't have yet.
The new kernel 3.0 that's in development/testing does support HWA, but it's ridden with bugs, so it's not a very good idea to flash its ROM unless you really want to test it.
But ive gotten it to work on both cm9/7
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
If you gotten it to work on cm9 then please share how, because again with the lack of hwa in any of the 2.x.x kernels there is no way that you have gotten it to work. The only kernel that provides hwa at the moment is hashcodes 3.0 kernel which has been released for testing and development and is no where near complete. So with this said you may have gotten it to work on a cm7 rom but no way on a cm9 rom without a 3.0 kernel that is still in development.

Like the post above says, where's the screenshots because this is simply impossible without hardware acceleration!! Why do you think hashcode has been working on the 3.0 kernel in the first place? You might as well tell us that you have Netflix working too haha. Not trying to be a douche but I'm telling you it doesn't work with 2.x.x kernels. If you don't believe me go over to hashcodes new user thread in the general section and look at the original post. One of the very first things he instructs users to test to see if the new kernel has any changes is to download the chrome and see if it works.

To clarify: Chrome uses RenderScript extensively. And the 2.6.35 kernel's graphics libraries (from Gingerbread) don't support it very well. Hence Chrome is buggy for almost all Gingerbread kernel-based ICS builds.
The reason Chrome works in the new 3.0 kernel build is that the graphics libraries are brand new and support RenderScript perfectly. Hardware codecs are still not running correctly in the new kernel (among a pleathora of other things).
So the difference for Chrome is RenderScript support and not hardware codecs.
Here are some screenshots of Chrome
Thank you I think the one I downloaded got the image change because it said chrome and has the chrome image

CM9 for Galaxy Tab 2!

It's exactly what the title says...it's on another certain forum that starts with a r...I'm using it right now...already excellent as a daily driver...though the author says it's barely alpha...I would highly advise checking it out! Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet..

What's not working:
--Audio Capture (voice commands, camcorder audio)
--Bluetooth Bluetooth actually works for connecting and data transfer..will not work for audio as I haven't gotten there yet.
--Chrome Beta not working yet
--YouTube not showing in market (and probably a few others (although you can download and sideload YouTube from the link below and it works, also webviewing YouTube works)

I personally wouldn't really want to use that unless at least the Chrome and audio issues were fixed (those are also the reasons I abandoned the AOKP ROM here).
I use the stock browser, and i can wait on Bluetooth a2dp, so yeah, if those are deal beakers, not a good rom, other than that, it's working flawlessly...

No ROM that is made from AOSP has these features that you "need" in them currently due to kernel source not being complete from Samsung.
Blame Samsung, not any development. Have fun on TouchWiz while the rest of us test drive the future of our tablets.
PS: No one is making you use these roms.
I didnt't mean to sound critical, only to mention some of the limitations that prevent me and people a lot like me from using it as a daily. No offense or criticism intended.
Can somebody link to cm9, and make a small guide on how to root and flash.

CM9 with stock kernel?
Would it be possible to make a CM9 rom with the stock kernel so that mic and other things work?
To answer a couple of questions, it's my understanding that it's against forum rules to link to an outside forum....afraid you'll have to google it.
Also, CM9 requires an AOSP kernel, so the stock kernel wouldn't be compatible.
Not the answers anyone wanted, but that's my take.

The sound not working wasnt because of the kernel source. I just hadnt gotten to it yet
Samsung released new kernel sources that work so the heavier fixing can begin. Last build had working mic as well as the sound. Still need to get bluetooth audio working but dont have a headset to test with :'( . Going to see if I can borrow one for a few days so I can get it working.

I never understood why some people had those problems after the update and others had none. I wasn't one of the lucky ones either. Try the Revolution HD ROM. It's cleaned up stock so it looks the same but runs faster and has none of those problems. Everything just works.

Good question. The number of people having problems is quite small percentage wise though. I just picked up a pair of TF's from a guy on Craigslist for $200. After restoring them back to 100% stock, they've been up and running for a week now for testing, without issue. I'm about to flip them on eBay. I still use my TF everyday too, but not as much as I used to. My N7 gets used more now.

Hmmm. I never had to worry about the sound issue with Mike's ROM, but using Volume+ from the Play Store seems to have solved that same issue on CM10 for some reason, so you might give that a try. No idea why it's working exactly, but no complaints, either.

[Q] Peel Working on Custom Rom

Hey guys I don't know if its been addressed somewhere else but I can't get peel to work on any custom rom I've installed besides the time when i rooted the tab and had the stock rom. Is there anyway to get the ir blaster to work on a custom rom or any custom jelly bean rom that actually has the ir blaster working?
well it has been covered, and is in the OP of just about EVERY custom ROM, IR BLASTER DOES NOT WORK ON CYANOGEN OR AOKP.
but all is not lost there are a select few custom ROMs based on the STOCK ROM that have working IR blaster, for the 7" model do a search for Romswell (4.0.4 ICS) or Tab2Lite (4.1.1 JB) and I believe there is another. Don't know what your choices are for the 10.1 model (if that is what you have, YOU DIDN'T SPECIFY).

they "remade" the app for some security reason or something.

[Q] IR Blaster on AOSP ROM

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the IR blaster to work on a AOSP ROM'S. Has anyone tested Peel Smart Remote on one, or possibly managed to get a WatchOn apk and get that working on AOSP? Having the IR blaster is the only thing keeping me on TouchWiz at the moment since my TV remote's power button is fried, but I would really like to get TouchWiz off.

I don't think it will work. Asop roms delete pretty much ALL added features to the phone. Someone would have to get the apps from TW and see if they work on it. I'm not sure which system app you would need. If I knew which system apps I needed I would test it for you. I have the smart remote for g s4 app

@kyhassen: Yeah, that's just about what I thought. I'm sure if someone dug through TW enough that whatever code is needed for it to work would be found. Could even be something as simple as a call method to find the hardware that gets passed along to whatever app the user is using, which could then be ported into an AOSP to keep that working..

Yeah keep us up to date on what you find!
The IR code is proprietary. Meaning it is unlikely the needed code will be released any time soon. Its possible someone may reverse engineer the drivers one day, or the code will "open" so all hope is not lost.

Hardware support is missing at the kernel level, .apks won't fix it.
