Reverting to stock problem - HD2 General

I managed to break my original HD2 a while ago and I've only just decided to replace it. I have another main phone but I loved that I could pretty much do anything with my old HD2. I had a bit of experience with installing cooked ROMs before moving on to installing Android and WP7 on it.
As I had a bit of experience with playing about with software recovery/updates, I decided to buy a phone that was described as "booting to a white screen" off ebay. I thought it would be a fun little hobby to get it working again.
My first few steps would be to get it to stock and start playing with it from scratch.
I booted into the bootloader and tried to flash a stock ROM but it kept freezing at 0%.
I've since managed to change the SPL version from 2.08 HSPL (I could get the phone to boot into MAGDLR 1.13, so they must've been playing with WP7 or Android NAND) to 3.03.
When I try to install the unbranded stock ROM, I get an error telling me that "This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone." I assume that I'm trying to install unbranded firmware on a branded phone. Is there a way to find out what branding the phone has as I can't get it to boot up? Am I going about this the right way or have I missed something obvious?
Thanks for your help!
EDIT:
I installed 3.03 HSPL to install the stock ROM and it completed the install process. However, after turning it on, it froze on the white HTC screen where it shows the Radio & ROM version. I pulled the battery out and now it freezes on a blank white screen. I'm out of ideas at the moment. Any help would be appreciated :s

[Q] Boot stuck in T-mobile logo

Hello there,
I bought the HTC HD2 and it came with a ROM Version of 3.14 and the Radio was also compatible. I installed MAGLDR and several Android Builts and it worked.
However, the screen frooze in ALL builts and in Windows 6.5. Thus, I thought i have a Hardware problem and need to send it in for Warranty.
Therefore, I looked up the "native" ROM for my build, which is supposed to be this one, which I downloaded directly from HTC.com: RUU_Leo_TMO_DE_1.72.111.4_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship
I installed this Version by pressing the Volume button down and the power button to boot into the bootloader. Then I connected the Phone the Computer and followed the Instruction on the Screen.
The first time it installed itself to 100% but after the reboot it got stuck in the T-mobile branded Logo (pink circle).
I tried to reflash the ROM several times, but it always ended at 10%. I also tried flashing the 3.14 version (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_GER_3.14.407.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship),but this one also aborted at 10%.
Lastly, I tried to reflash MAGLDR 1.13, which officially finished at 100% but after the boot, I'm again stuck in the T-mobile logo and it does not enter the magdlr bootloader.
does anyone has any idea?
Rename the official rom to leoimg.nbh stick it on the root of the sd card. Boot into bootloader again and it will flash for you. P.s. DO NOT use the .51 radio if you're on t-mobile US. I doubt you are, but I have to mention it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it seems to be working. Windows is starting again! you are a live saver. now i can send it in for warranty.
I have another question then. Currently I tried almost all NAND builds running FROYO, with everything working, and supposebly running stable.
However, during all builds I had screen freezes everywhere. Sometimes in the "go go go" screen, or afterwards during the next "HTC-logo", during the "pin-code", after the pin code, during some apps, etc.
First I thought, the build were not stable, but since it happend during all, I now think its the Hardware. Am I correct here, or is there something else I could try?
When I got my phone (windows 6.5) it already had freezes as well. and even when i made hardware resets and froze during the process...
The behaviour you're describing is not normal, and so I would recommend sending it back as it's still under warranty. If it was out of warranty, I'd maybe be tempted to try some things, but there's not much point when htc can fix it.

Firstly its "ROM" not "room".
What do you mean "with triangle" ??
Which HD2 do you have and which ROM did you try flashing?
Can you get into tri-color bootloader mode?
Sorry i post my thread quickly. Yes i tried to flash a ROM, i have HD2 512MB. I tried to flash a 3.14.405 rom. triangle - i can get in tri-color bootloader mode, but when i try also flash original rom there is no result, it crashes on 9 or 17%. Triangle is a sign when i switch on a device, i believe it means ther eis no windows/rom on device

your device is not bricked... get into bootloader and do a task 29 (LOOK IT UP)...
Then start from scratch... Magldr, then whatever ROM you want.
Can you explain me? Please step by step... Thanks in advance

Possible fix stuck bricked hd2 radio no rsa information
Please read the whole post first sorry about the mess it is my first post thanks to everyone here on xda who came up with everything i used to do this There is guides for this xda has a lovely list of tmous roms if you are on t mobile in the us http://www.xdafil.es/index.php?path=HD2/TMOUS/
i would start with the RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.02.531.MASD_S__Radio_Signed_15.29.50.07U_2.06.50.04_TeleNav-5.5.42.zip
extract the .exe file if it has one than extract the RUU_signed.nbh from the .exe file using win war or 7 zip than rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and place it on a newly formatted microsd not a microsdhc and i had problems with anything over class 4
place it in your phone and hold the volume down button and power button as loading comes up let off volume down power button will start the flash(i was only able to do complete flashes in the freezer if not it would hang or get radio errors)
i also had a tmous which did not want to flash the radio i would get an an error and rsa fail it sounds crazy but i wrapped it in plastic and stuck it in the freezer for a while before and during the flash this was the only way i could install the radio and actually see rgd information on boot screen after this first one you will have an old test rom with an old spl you cannot change to hspl from here i also was not able to go straight to 2.10, i had to step up from RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.03.531.6_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.50.23_3_Test.zip, to RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.03.531.6_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.50.23_3_Test.zip the same way i did the first one, hard resetting after each one and let it open windows completely to know it is working. than i believe there is an hspl3 file somewhere out there with all thanks to DarkForces Team HardSPL3 by bepe and Cotulla i will try to attach it that will work with spl 2.02 wich you should now be on now you can download your radio in the master radio thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
i also just renamed the ruu_signed.nbh to LEOIMG.nbh and ran through sd i seem to have problems through usb and i was trying to be careful with the radio
once you got the radio you want you could flash the rom preferably running task 29 before or get yourself magldr to install through nand i also stuck my laptop an the freezer with the phone to get wp7 completely installed i did all this mess with a phone that had a broken screen i think there is like thermal compound over the processor to the case that is not on right and overheats when not in the operating system like a crappy old laptop with its fans full of stuff trying to install xp. and while a stock rom was being installed the usb was pulled during the radio installation i hope this helps i belive i saw one post to stick it in the freezer out of everything that i think helped the most.i also notice i have to put it in the freezer at boot too sometimes or i will get a fatal hit error i think its just over heating..... i also have an hd2 which has never been opened before that i have never had to stick in the freezer it gets flashed quite abit right now running gingerbread on normal hd2 and wp7 dual boot android 2.2 on the one i had to freeze i hope this helps i was here for weeks reading reading i was stumped cus my first hd2 and g1 were so eazy i will update this post once i stop being lazy and open the phone again to replace the goop to see if that is the problem
Thank you for reading my jumble and thanks again to all you phone heads here on xda which without you none of this would be possible and i would not have wp7 and gingerbread on my hd2 : D
I did a task29, flash a ROM succesfully, but now it' s stucked in HTC loading mode (Shows a HTC and nothing happens)

no luck at all I tried it once and have succesfull rom update, but it stucks when started with HTC logo, i tried second time and still no luck. Please help me.. all the time now also for original rom it says that this room is not for that device
original rom
you have to find the original rom shipped with your phone like here i am tmobile usa roms you have to find your carrier and country and start with one of the first ones i started with my second one RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.02.531.MASD_S__Radio_Signed_15.29.50.07U_2.06.50.04_TeleNav-5.5.42.zip and i kept getting stuck screens when it was hot turn it off maby find some silica gel (lil rocks that come with everything to absorb water) wrap it in plastic and throw it in the freezer does the back of the phone get real hot during flash
i have shipped original rom, still no luck
not the newest one
you need one of the first test roms this was the only way i got mine to work i had to go from 2.02 to 2.03 to 2.05 hard resetting after each install making sure they completely went in what carrier are you and where are you
Still stuck?
Download HSPL 3.zip from page 1,
Run the program;
a) select 2.08.000 (not HSPL) and you can flash stock (HTC) ROM with no damage or aftermarket changes on your phone.
b) select 2.08.HSPL and you can flash whatever you want
Install MAGLDR 1.13
Flash ROM
Make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY. You can find these all over XDA, look at all of my posts if you need to.

Hi, thanks a lot. Only, SPL for original rom was 1.42000 is it ok to flash with 2.08.000 ? And why i should install MAGLDR 1.3 ? Thanks in advance,
Ok, now i dont understand anything. My original SPL was 1.42, i did Hardspl 3, after that tried flash original rom, process stuck on 96%, after that i tried once again stuck on 9% and says rom not compatible with device. And its like a hidden circle, my phone is acting like that all the time. I tried task29, tried all HSPL, also 1.4200, 1.66 and so on. Can anybody help me? my skype nick is martins.prieditis , maybe someone can assist me?
Ok now its fixed. I did a HSPL4, due to which original rom freeze on 0%, but 3.14 didnt start up on loading OS (white screen with HTC logo))or freeze on 99%. Than went back to shipped 1.42, stock room succesfylly flashed and did a SSPL_RUU. Now the only problem is that my LEO restarts when it gets hot. Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks all for youre help (regarding my previous issue) !
Overheating??
As mrpoe stated in post 9, One of his phone had to be put in the freezer to be able to flash anything otherwise it will get hot and freeze.
Also the motherboard is most likely broken and you cannot get it to work without freezing or it will keep rebooting...
The best thing to do if you still have warranty is to Keep stock SPL and stock WM6.5 and return for warranty.
It will not function the same again.

[Q] Booting Problem

Problem:
Won't boot into any ROM.
Phone Details at Start:
Telstra HD2, HSPL 2.08, Radio 2.15.50.14, magldr 1.12, Windows Phone 7
Description:
I was running Windows Phone 7 when it decided to crash and restart. However it got stuck in a restarting loop; restart then crash during loading which caused it to restart then crash, etc. Then magldr came up with 1EFATAL HIT 1.
I figured WP7 had somehow corrupted part of the install but nothing I can do seems to fix it.
I have tried:
-Reflashing it with WP7.
-Reflashing it with another WP7 build.
-Reflashing to magldr 1.13 then WP7 again.
But none of these worked so I tried to go for a NAND Android build. However I couldn't get the ClockWork Mod to work. It too failed to boot with the same problem as WP7. Now I just wanted to get the phone in a working state again so I have tried:
-Formatting the SD card
-Reflashing to a custom winmob6.5 build
-Reflashing to a custom winmob6.5 build I had previously used and worked fine
-Changing the Radio to 2.14.50.02 then reflash to a custom wm6.5
-Changing the Radio to 2.12.50.02_02 then reflashing to a custom wm6.5
When I try the custom wm6.5 rom I see the boot screen but it just sits there and goes no further. I have tried installing an old copy of the chunky rom (as it changed the boot screen ) but still just sits at the boot screen.
I have tried redownloading all of the files I'm flashing with in case there was a problem downloading it. Also I have tried using files I already had which were working, but nothing seems to have fixed it.
Some things I have noticed are:
-that all flashings have and still load without error
-that it doesn't have any problems loading into the HSPL
-when ever I tried an install with magldr usb flash (CWM or WP7) it would work but at the end of the flash it said it would restart but never did. I had to remove the battery
-loading into magldr I could select the restart or powerdown option but it would just hang and again I had to remove battery to turn it off
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to get it fixed? The only things have haven't tried are flashing with a stock rom or reflashing another HSPL. Both of those I though could cause trouble for the currently working HSPL, which if I lost would cause more problems. Currrently I am under the impression it is a hardware failure as no rom (mb6.5, WP7 or CWM) will boot and magldr installed fine but wasn't able to restart the phone.
Check your battery pins to see if they're in anyway bent. If they are, just push them back a little bit with your finger.
Have you tried Task29? I think the only other way would be to flash stock again and start over.

Yes, I have tried Task29 and then tried installing both magldr then CWM and wm6.5. It however didn't make a different as I still got the same error. Sorry, I forgot to mention this in initial post.
I have also read about the battery pins being bent. I haven't tried it but from what I can see mine are all about the same height and seem pretty straight. When I put in the battery they also seem to be pushed back a bit so I am assuming they are all making contact. I was a bit worried about over extending them but I might give it go if no other option becomes available.
I've seen several times people with a phone that seems to flash, but nothing actually changes.
The only way you can visually test this in your current state is to change spl to something different, and look in bootloader see if it changed, but you said you don't wanna, so.
You can try flashing HSPL 4 and select HSPL 3.03 and see if gbiz is sucessful. If you have HSPL 3.03 in bootloader then you know it is flashing and you can go back to HSPL 2.08. Also you can try flashing your stock Telstra ROM via USB cable and computer as this method will not change your HSPL 2.08 but flashing it via SD card will revert you back to SPL. I think flashing the stock ROM will be your best bet for now.
Well I originally had the energy boot screen and when I flashed to a copy of the chunky rom it changed to its one. I would have thought it was at least partly flashing. Also I have removed with magldr with task29 then reflashed (with magldr) and was able to boot into magldr. So I think the flashing is happening successfully.
I you think reflashing the HSPL could work then I'll give that a try. As I haven't done that yet. If that doesn't work I'll take a look at flashing the Telstra ROM. I know flashing a stock rom is mentioned as a solution but I wasn't sure why I would make the phone work any better than a custom rom with concerns to booting.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Just to cover all bases here, your HD2 is not getting really warm or warmer than usual is it? If so this is a sign of thermal breakdown, but like I said this is just to cover all bases here.
From what I can tell it hasn't been getting any hotter than usual.
Re:"why to use stock instead of custom"
Its because a stock rom flashes everything, spl, splashscreen, radio and rom.
Also, some customs use a secondary splashscreen, which would replace magldr, so if things aren't right, starting over by flashing your correct rom is often advised just to draw a line under the current attempts and start over.
Don't forget that even if the stock flash fails, if you did it from bootloader then Hspl is likely gone, and magldr too, possibly.
Just an update. I flash a Telstra ROM which to my surprise it booted... after a couple of tries. Decided to reboot it to see if it starting up was just luck which it turns out it was. I couldn't get it to start again then it refused to even get into the bootloader. So I am sure enough now that it is a hardware failure and am taking it in for warranty.
Thanks again for the help.

[Q] My phone freezes after 123456 GO GO GO!!! even after new installation...

Hi there,
Its been couple of months that my phone froze during web browsing. And when I pull the battery out and reinserted, the phone would go through the booting and either freezes right after 123456 go go go or it would freeze during the Android Logo loading. It would take me many battery pull outs and re inserts to get it back on. During this time, I ran Hyperdroid 2.3.4 on NAND with Mgldr 1.13.
yesterday I tried to reinstall the OS, i task29, reflash the radio to 2.15... and reinstalled mgldr1.13. I have chosen Typhoon's 2.3.5 NAND CWM. After the installation, the same problem of not being able to go past 1234 go go go persists. I tried to pull out the battery again and after few try i managed to log in to Android.
It seems, the longer the battery is out, the more effective it is in booting the OS. I am seriously concerned about HW issue. Please help me identify the problem.
Thanks
Did you try installing the stock Winmob ... then doing a clean android installation (complete with re-installing the HSPL)?
I am going to do that next. It seems, all freezing during normal operation happens when I am browsing on Edge (my phone is incompatible with 3G on the network i am).
Secondary note, when I remove battery and reinsert, not only I cant make it back to Android boot but also, when I load up Mgldr Recovery, the AD Recovery function also does not load beyond 12345...
I am going to load a WinMo 6.5 ROM probably NRG's and reinstall HSPL.

as I said before... use the stock windows, not the cooked ones (you can get it off the HTCs website)...
maybe,,, make sure you have the right partion size for your rom. check your roms page, it should say what size you need. if you have the wrong size, your phone can do all kinds of stupid things. speaking from my own screw up thinking i had the right size,,,
Sorry for the late response. I am now flashing it with STOCK ROM. I couldnt first find on HTC thats why I went and download the NRG's ROM. Today I just found that HTC pulled the ROM and now they are only available on T-mobile website so eventually I got it and now installing it. I will update about the progress
Thanks
So I downloaded the ROM and put my phone into HSPL screen by pressing volume. I open the .exe file (ROM) and set it to install. However, during the installation, the process gets stock around 18% and I waited it out couple of times for more than 10 minutes and does not go pass that.
I tried to Task29 it and re-flash it but the problem maintains.
UPDATE: I re run HSPL and restore to SPL 2.8... and then run the Stock Rom installation. This time, it finished the installation however, when it booted up, it got stock on the pink logo "stick together"... I tried to hard reset by holding the Up and Down Volume and when i did it, and when through the manufacturing reset process, the problem maintains. I cannot get into Stock WinMo.
Thanks
My phone has the exact same problem. Doesn't anybody have a solution for this?

Having trouble going back to winmo

I have read almost all the threads on here regarding going back to winmo but I hav issues as the HD2 gets stuck on the white HTC screen after installing.
I decided to go back because my phone kept freezing on the black screen where it says gogogo and I gave up and decided to load winmo.
I had hspl2.08 and donwload the 1.66 htc firmware and installed and it got stuck. I tried various things and then also tried installing 3.03hspl and the 3.14 firmware but still the same.
Any ideas?
it is a leo HD2 originally bought locked to t-mobile?
Maybe nand of phone just broke? Did you tried task29 before flashing stock? Other sdcard?
If won't help, I would try to flash stock 1.66 (restore OSPL) and send it to service pretend n00b customer which not understand what happened
I have tried task 29, I have done everything to be honest but i have a feeling I am doing something.
So fine I can't figure out how to isntall winmo back on it.
I tried to install magdllr113 and adrecovery but it fails to load recovery.
