Hi,
Id like to buy an Ainol Hero II tablet, which unfortunately lacks both BT and GPS. While the missing GPS isnt such a big deal for me, the missing BT is. Now, I learned I could use a BT adaptor to add bluetooth capability to the tablet. But Id like to have it connected all the time, which is made impossible by the standard 8cm USB-OTG cable - it would be pretty inconvenient. So, Id like to ask for solutions:
1) Isnt there something like a BT device, which would be inserted into the microSD card slot? Something like old PCMCIA cards?
2) Isnt there something like a really small BT adaptor with microUSB connector?
3) Isnt there something like USB-OTG cable/reduction, which would stick out only for say 1cm? That, with a really small and flat BT adaptor, could make having this inserted all the time possible.
Thanks!

Hi boys and girls,
I'm considering getting the XDA2, mainly i want it for a navigation system, so without using a bluetooth gps unit I imagine i need the backpack right?
So do you remove the camera to clip the backpack on?
Does backpack obscure the bottom mounted port which I would want to use the thumboard for?
backpack enables CF as I understand it, so are there any issues with wifi CF's remaining connected to the w/lan on windows pocket 2003? (I am plagued with periodic loss of connection with my old laptop using a 16bit wifi pcmcia card on XP)
Anyone use a bluetooth gps and do u loose connection much?
Anyone use the thumb board thing and what do you think of it?
Any pics of the thumb-board mounted on the device or the backpack mounted on would be ACE
Cheers
You dont need the backpack to use a gps with xda2, just buy a wired system, it will set itself up on com1, you must make sure that under setting/connection/beams, that the box "receive incoming beams" is not checked. www.globalpositioningsystems.com do a good cheap range of gps modules, any unit that fits xda1 will also work on xda2. As to the bluetooth gps, I have used Fortuna GPSmart and find it to be very good, the one I am using at the moment is the Holus GR-203e but I had to install a patch to get that working, the GPSmart is also usable as a cabled gps so with the cable which is very cheap you can connect to laptop or other non bluetooth devices. You can use the GPSmart as a stand alone unit also, I bought a cable which charges the xda, powers the gps and also carries the data.

Thanks for your reply, I think I'm in need of the backpack in any case because I want wifi
the bluetooth unit you mention that can run as wired sounds good, and how much was that multi charging cable? Cigar lighter effort I assume?
If you just want to charge the gps you get a mini usb lead and one of those usb liger sockets, the cable has a lighter socket included with the y cable., it was less than £20.
Was this the one you meant mate?

The url you posted was invalid, so i tried www.globalpositioningsystem.com and that site didnt look all that hot??
Globalpositioningsystem are one of the best suppliers I have used, that gps on ebay is not the one I use, that is GPSmart. it can be used as a handheld, bluetooth or wired system and is very cheap, runs on 3 x AAA batteries. The cable with lighter adaptor and data/charge cost less than £20. I inadvertently added an "s" to the end of that url.
I've got a LCD on my new car stereo and it would be great if I could get the sat nav from the XDA to display there, would save me gettting a car kit.
Thanks
Mark
No, not possible. The only connector would be the SDIO slot but you need that for the map SD cards.
OK, I thought there might be a USB cable that might do the job.
It's a shame..... i know, but i think the new mini hdmi, should take care of issues like this on future devices, just a shame, there really hasn't been any sort of standard, so to speak, for video out on pocket devices...
With that said, I was thinking, to control the gps, you'll still need to use the phone, so it'll be a bit annoying, having to keep both open..
I have a trinity with the WM6 rom I downloaded from here and have only just bought a mini usb - 3.5 audio adapter, now, everything fits in very nicely, but I'm unable to get sound to switch over to headphones, there arent any options in the phone that I know of, and I cant find any help files either, I dont think it's the adapter, well I cant see anything wrong with it anyway, can anyone shed some light on the subject for me?
awww .....help me pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
Hi I think at 99% of chances that it comes from your adapter. It might not be good cause if it were it would switch automatically. There is no manual way to activate it cause it's not a matter of software. It is as if you plug a headphone in a mp3 player: There is nothing to activate just plug. Try to buy another adapter which is certified to work with HTC
that's the problem probably: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_EMUConnector
ahh
thanx michaldu, I believe I see the problem from that diagram now, the adapter seems to be a 5 pin....and the pins are on the top row, which, from that diagram, seems to be for usb, looks like I gotta get me an 11 pin, ah well, thanx anyway dudes, mucho apriciado.
I know usb bluetooth adaptors are pretty cheap but I'm stuck without one at the moment and am curious if someone has worked out a way to use an android device as a usb reciever. I'll probably get one eventually but if there is already some method out there it could hold me over until then.
You are not being even slightly clear about what it is that you are attempting to accomplish. Yes, the DREAM has a bluetooth radio. You can use it to attach to certain supported bluetooth devices, like headsets.

I think he wants to use the G1 as a USB Bluetooth dongle for his PC. And if that is the case, I have no f'n clue if anything like that can be/has been done.
Not sure if this is the right topic, but there doesn't seem to be any other place I could put this.
So my brother lost his keyboard USB connector (it's wireless). If I were to go out and buy another one USB connector for the exact same keyboard, would it work? Sounds stupid, I know, but it's worth a try.
Thanks

Straight out of the box, no. In my experience wireless keyboards are paired with their transceivers and have no obvious sync button to pair them to another, there may be a way to do it in software or something which brings me onto:
But where are you going to get another tranceiver from? That would require buying another keyboard in which case just use the new one. Or don't lose USB plugs in the first place, mine stayed plugged into the PC at all times or when in transport was gaffa taped to the keyboard.
Bluetooth keyboards of course don't have this issue. Next keyboard I buy I am intending to be Bluetooth hopefully.

I would say that yes, it should work, provided it was the exact same keyboard.

I have seen 3 of the same model USB wireless keyboard working in one room without interfering. They hadnt been played with either, they were straight out of the box so somehow a keyboard is paired with its included tranceiver.
Thats not to say it can't be paired to another but mine has no obvious way of doing so.

I suspect the BT dongles connect to a certain keyboard BT MAC address. The same thing is true of any BT device; they have to be paired.
No matter what you will always have the issue that you can't buy the adaptor on its own anyway.

That's why I like the hp dongles that can pair with up to five devices...

That's why I like Bluetooth devices where I don't have to pay for a dongle, can't lose it (it's built into my laptops, tablet, phone, and for that matter car), and don't have to give up a USB port to use a wireless peripheral...
If it is a Logitech device you may be able to pair it to a unifying receiver.
