[Q] Updating Error - Rooted Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, i've been trying to update my nexus 7 from 4.1.2 (JZO54k) to 4.2 (JOP40C), i had rooted my device with the toolkit from wugfresh, even when ota update keeps appearing, when i tried to do it, the instalation stops and appears the red triangle error. I tried to do it with the ADB method, but when the package is sendind from the ABD to the nexus, it appears
verifyng current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/app/GooglePinyinIME.apk". "c3fd85ab52cd139b4d8440a6b06623451aa46210". "737423314e1a53013fb0c5f7568fb2f9998abdcf")
Installation aborted.
What can I do?

It does this because you'll modified or deleted system files. The OTA will not flash if you aren't stock.
You can always just download the stock image from Google and fastboot flash it.

You used the toolkit to root, just use it to return to stock. Download the latest version and just click return to stock

afaik yes, Another thing you could do is look around for a cwm flashable variant of the latest google rom, that or it's time to go to a custom rom

Buddy, i'm doing the flashstock with the wugfresh toolkit, but its taking too much time with the "Sending 'system'" step, is it normal? it has been like a half an hour since this step start.

Failing to update to 4.2. from 4.1.2 (JZO54K to JOP40C)

The device is stock.
Update fails and gives the error .
assert failed: apply_patch_check("EMMC:/dev/b*lock/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by*-name/LNX:5013504:c48f8e86c73f*b2c2ba1794f5ec98e27c9e206ed5:5*060608:319331fae14fec8a8806375*1475fce26bae328e0")
Tried restoring factory settings, downloading manually, clearing data from google services framework to force push the update over and over again.
When receiving OTA update, it starts fine and at about 1/3 of the update the android falls on its side and has a red triangle with an exclamation point on it. If I boot to recovery from that it shows me the error mentioned above, same as trying to sideload through adb.
In need of advice or should I just go return the damn thing and get a new one?

Could u give me a set of instructions or a link to where I can find one? Thanks.

Ota update keeps failing

Can't install 4.2.2 ota and from what I have read its because I have custom recovery? How do I go back to stock recovery or is there a flashable stock 4.2.2 update I can use ?

Use the search option next time please.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Use fastboot and the recovery image available through a link in that thread to go back to the stock recovery.
Or you could simply flash 4.2.2 through your recovery;

Yes, the custom recovery is what's causing the OTA self installation to fail. You must download the update to your phone, boot into twrp or cwm, and install the update zip.

Using a toolkit is most likely the reason why the OP doesn't know how to flash recovery. Using a toolkit again would continue the cycle...

[HELP] Nexus 4 stuck on boot screen

Hi.
Guys. I need help. I tried changing font on my rooted Nexus. I used font installer from Play Store. After installation the app asked me to reboot the device. Now the phone is stuck on boot screen. I tried going in to recovery and wiping all the data. It did not help.
Can anyone in this community help me?

fastboot flash a recovery, and you could load a custom rom. twrp recovery has an option to push files to your phone with adb. you can push a rom to your phone then flash it in your recovery. or you can flash the stock image via fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183555

Thanx Bro. My nexus is up and running now..

Today I tried fastboot and flash 4.3 stock rom on my nexus 4, root and stock rom.
For some reason the zip on "sdcard" is failing (error 7 code strange as it was full stock) letting me a stuck google boot.
I tried to wipe cache without success.
I am sure the solution is somewhere here as already said in that topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183555
But what line should I follow first? Ideally I would like to flash 4.3 or 4.2.2 without factory reset.
Any advice?
Is your boot loader unlocked?? If yes you won't loose any data if you follow the above procedure.. But if not, I think the chances of saving data are low. You can install 4.3 directly if you have the files. I updated mine yesterday using the same method.. I was on slimbeam..

Yes I am unlocked/rooted. The thing is 4.3 install fails either from sdcard or doing a sideload. I will try 4.2.2 but I am starting to worry a bit...

If you are unlocked, try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Download 4.3 factory image from here https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/takju-jwr66v-factory-c2ef855e.tgz.

I have been reading and applying more carrefully http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312 without D10. It is well writen and it is looking to be a safe and efficient to me. I even started by installing 4.2.2 again, then backup then 4.3 with the same method.
4.3 up running and rooted!
No data loss, some stuff learnt and a new backup!
If a new OTA is popping up I will look for the same method.

Sent From My Rooted G3
Only thing I can suggest is make sure you have USB debugging enabled and make sure you have the correct drivers installed. It's probably best to ask in the thread of the toolkit you're using, I haven't tried many toolkits but wugs has a pretty good walk thru for driver installation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

I unrooted, flashed the update zip in recovery and immediately after flashed the superuser zip and all was fine.

Are you rooted? The update should be in your /cache folder, you can move it to the sd storage and flash from recovery. You'll probably also need superuser 1.51 zip to flash after flashing the update as you will lose root.

Yes updated last night, seen a few people having issues so was holding off, but it was pretty straight forward. I ended up downloading the grouper.zip (ota) update from the thread above and the superuser 1.5.1 zip. Fully unroofed from the superuser app then flashed the grouper.zip and superuser zip in recovery.

I also had to use the Grouper.zip to take the update. That zip comments out a line in the install script that performed a verification check that many people had fail. The released ota update continually failed for me. I never unrooted first, just flashed grouper.zip in TWRP recovery. After booting back up, I went back into TWRP and flashed the Supersu1.51 zip and got root back. No data loss. This is on a wifi, stock rom & kernel, rooted and TWRP recovery. Now on JWR66Y and happy.
