Yesterday I updated my ROM using the goo.im manager. It seemed like everything was working fine, though this morning I tried to wake the tablet and it did nothing.
I can't get into recovery or the bootloader or anything. The screen is consistently black. I've tried holding down the power button, holding down the power button with volume buttons, pressing various buttons in rapid succession, but to no avail.
Any ideas for what I can do to fix this?

Could it have somehow discharged overnight? Plug it in and let it charge a little and see if it comes on?

It's been plugged in for a while now, and it's still not turning on.
In a dark room plug it in to the charger, see if the screen shows static, if so your battery may be unplugged.

Just tried this and didn't get anything. I don't think that's likely anyways, since I haven't opened up the tablet or messed around with the battery.
How long are you holding power button?

When you plugged the charger in did the screen show static? If so when you removed the cover did you make sure it was plugged in, or just look at it? The reason I ask is the plug will look plugged in, but the plug will not be fully seated.
And as nespid stated how long did you hold the buttons? It can take 30 seconds or so before it performs a hard reset or enters recovery.

Just tried holding down the power button for a good 40 seconds while the tablet was plugged in, no avail.

I sometimes wonder about the craftsmanship of the power button. From day one, bone stock,I sometimes have to sit and fuss with the power button if its powered off.

I had exactly the same issue. Black screen, nothing from the power button. So I took the back off ( which comes off really easy.....just used my nails!) And pulled out the power to the battery reinserted, put the back on powered up and all was ok...........strange one....but it got mine up and running.

This, sometimes my N7 takes about 10 seconds to turn on, other times I'm pressing it for a minute or so.

More likely this is related to the sleep of death, where when you shut off your N7 it does not power down correctly and requires a hard reset by holding the power button down for 20-30 seconds.

This is what I would be trying at this point. And again, it can look like the plug is securely fastened when it's not if you have the battery that does not take up then entire space as shown in the pictures I posted.
Alright, so I opened up the cover and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in. Still not working :/

Odd, these are hard to brick. you would essentially have to start by wiping recovery/bootloader. It sounds like the battery is completely dead. what happens when you plug it in? I assume you see no indication of it charging? Again, in a dim/dark room can you see what looks like static when you plug it in?
Okay. So this happened to me a few months ago. It died from me not charging it for a few days ( love the battery life) so I plugged it in before I went to sleep. When I wore up and tried to turn it on, I was having the same issue. It would not boot or anything. It was dead as a doorknob and I thought. "No way....I bricked a device in my sleep....(next flashaholics anonymous meeting on Wednesday)"
So I thought maybe the charger broke and it didn't charge. Well I tried different chargers and outlets and everything. Nothing worked.
Then I plugged it into my computer to see if I could get the wugfresh toolkit to connect. (It didn't) but after like an hour messing with wugfresh while my nexus was plugged in I went to try to boot to fast boot (for the 100th time) and it worked (that or it showed the charging symbol by itself) either way the screen only remained on for a few seconds. After trying this again an hour later. Watching it closely, as soon as the screen turned on I ran it to my Asus charger and plugged it in.. Then it charged normally and was fine.
Tl;Dr
These batteries should never reach 0% mine probably became z little too close to 0% took a lot of time and methods to make the battery take the charge.
Moral: don't let the nexus 7 reach 0%

If it doesn't turn on and...
You reconnected your battery (dismounting the back),
You pushed the button for 5 minutes! or more (i tried all of em, all possible combinations)
You plugged/unplugged it from your PC then tried to turn it on
...and nothing happened.... Plug it to your PC, go to device manager and if it is recognized as APX
Welcome to the "BRICK CLUB"
Your only hope is to get in the bootloader

Yep mine did the same thing, my battery connecter was visibly wonky though, only slightly.
It does seem to me to be a small design problem that the battery can move a little and pull on the connecter, either the wire needs a bit more slack or the battery needs securing. I used some tape to hold it and hopefully this won't happen again.

This may be the noobiest of questions, but is there anything special that needs to be done to chage the unit or is anyone aware of units with bad charging ports. I just unboxed my Nexus last night and as my usual new device ritual put it on the charger for a few minutes. Noticed the battery icon came on for about 5-10 seconds and then disappeared. Figured it was normal but when I powered it on we only at 43%. Shut it off and let it "charge" overnight but when I powered it back up still at 43%. Tried a different cable with same results. Calling store today but wondering if I might have missed something.

A common problem seems to be that the battery connector is not properly seated during assembly. Pop off the back cover and visually inspect the connector. Also, there are a handful of threads regarding the issue you're having. You may want to search for them and check them out for some pertinent info.

Ok, so got the back popped off and all look connected. Power the unit back on and somehow it's at 49% and my wife said when she picked it up earlier today it was at 55%. Checked the battery stats and it's been online for 9 hrs. If I plug it in while powered on the charging icon displays as if it's charging. Just tried leaving it powered on and connecting the charger and just leaving it. If I hit the power button the charging icon comes on, so maybe it is charging, just incredibly slowly?

My cable went bad within a month. Luckily, every other item we own seems to have the same micro-usb slot, so we had a ton of other cables to try, so that fixed it. But two bad cables - I wouldn't guess that.
Try to unplug the battery and replication it again. Open the back cover and do that. You need to be carefully and not to break the pins.

(fixed)I let my phone die because I wasn't near a charger. Now my phone is completely dead. I try to charge and nothing happens. It won't boot with lit black screen....nothing. It's like having the battery taken out.....

edit: (fixed) I waited and nothing happened so a bit after that I held the power button for 40 seconds then unplugged the charge and while still holding the power button plugged it back and the red/orange light came on. I then let it charge for a bit until the light turned off then I powered it on and worked. I experienced the problem once before but it did the red/orange light problem. It had never fully died like that before which freaked me out.

i've had the same problem before.. the best method for make sure that n4 works again is simple, just dissasembly the back case and replace batery connector port and replace it back.
just follow Nexus 4 Teardown from iFixit.com
just remove the battery connector port. you don't need to remove all the battery.

1) Check your USB cable and adapter.

Last night, the battery of my N4 was getting really low, so I plugged it in. I noticed it was not charging when I plugged it in. It ended up dying completely on me. I plugged it in again later that night, and the LED started flashing red. I unplugged it and replugged it a few times, and now when I plug it in there is a solid red LED and the device is totally unresponsive. I let it sit on the charger all night and it made no difference. I was totally stock, no root, no kernel, bootloader was even still locked.
Am I going to have to RMA? I'm a college student and don't exactly have $300 sitting in my account at the moment..

you really need to hold it for a while, longer than you think. im pretty sure when it happened to me i had to hold the power button for around 30 seconds after unplugging it. if theres still no dice then it might be ok to freak out lol

This solution worked for me after no amount of charging and button pressing would get me anything. Phone was stock and charging overnight when the red LED happened.

You've got to open up the back of your Nexus 4, then unscrew the battery connector, take it out then plug it back in. There are some tutorials around the forum if you need them.

I have this same problem, I've already taken the battery connector off reset it nothing there, removed batter tried to ,annually charge using some wires on + and - terminals still no dice.
I'm afraid my warranty is void because of those procedures. Does any one know if that's the case.

I had a similar problem on one of my Nexus 4 phones - I went to the LG service centre to get it looked at. They said the motherboard is gone and needs to get replaced. If your phone is still in warranty then you can get it done - otherwise replacing mother board is a very expensive affair - you would be better off buying a new Nexus 5.

Is it time to trash the N4
My Nexus 4 went low on battery power (3%) so I plugged it in to my usb car charger, soon after i noticed a solid red led light coming from the notification led. I left it on charge for close to 12hrs once I got home. Pulled the rear cover off and removed the battery to test the voltage... 3.8V was available. After reassembly and many different attempts at button pressing combinations there is still no life whatsoever and when I plug it into the AC charger I still get the solid RED LED light of Death...
Can anybody tell me if the mainboard is likely to be fried???
Last time I used it I picked it up only to see that it had 2% battery left and before I could get to the charger it automatically shut off. I figured the battery just died so I put it on the charger, didn't see if the screen/battery indicator came on since I have a cover case on it, and just left it there for the rest of the day/overnight. The next day I took it off the charger but it wouldn't come on and still hasn't. I used the original ASUS charger that came with it, tested it on my N4 and it charges, but no indication of it working on the N7. It's been about a week and I've tried all the button holding combinations to try and wake it up. It's the 2012 Nexus 7. I need help.
Also, I've never messed with the bootloader, I am unrooted and running stock. I last updated to 4.3 OTA and I read some of the bogus things that happen after the update and didn't think it would happen to me but the tablet is literally bricked.

I did have this problem once, but it resolved by plugging it in for a few minutes, plugging out, waiting a few seconds and repeat until the screen shows the charging icon. After a few of these, it was working again.

I had a similar issue this weekend. To get it working, I left it on the charger for a few minutes and then while still on the charger I held in the power button and then the battery charging icon came up. I was also going to recommend checking the USB cable but you've already tested that. Still trying a different cable wouldn't hurt things either. Well I hope something in that rambling helps.

last week i got this issue twice. try this method, first plug your charger at least one hour, its okay if the screen just dark (better if you got something like little flicker or flash). then plug off your usb charger, then plug in again, right after you plug your cable press power button + volume down and wait.
maybe it will hit and miss, but this is the only method that i have tried and works.

Agreed with this one.
I had a situation where I was playing Magic 2014 plugged into the charger, but the game is so CPU intensive it drains the battery faster than I can charge it. I thought I had enough battery but at some point the tablet did an auto-shutdown right in the middle of a game, while still plugged in too. This also resulted in some crazy screen flickering and scary noises, which subsided when I unplugged the charger. When I plugged it back in, seemed to be dead as a doornail.
Anyway what worked for me was to unplug, plug in the charger and immediately hold down power+vol down after it went in. This brought me to the bootloader screen and I was able to get started.
Happened to mine a couple times since being on 4.3. Seems not to like getting completely drained. Anyway, after charging for a bit to make sure it had some juice I plugged it into my computer and held all three buttons. It booted into the bootloader. I selected reboot device or whatever it is. Then moved it back to the wall charger to let it get fully charged.

My brother Iaw called me today and said my sisters Nexus 7 no longer turns on.
It also shows no charge being received when plugged in.
I'm gonna head over today and try to see what can be done, but I was wondering if there are any tricks I could learn before I drive there.
She has it in a nice wallet case, never dropped, never wet.

Power&volume+ = fastboot mode
Power & volume- = recovery mode see if you can access either. Report back if you can it may be fixable.
Hold power in for 2 mins while plugged in sometimes gets a completely flat battery to charge.
Plug it into a computer if it looks like its off and wont respond to buttons but gets recognised as an apx device by a PC then it a nexus coaster and the bootloaders gone it now needs a new motherboard.
