A weird thing I've noticed on black clipping - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hello.
I've played this video on my sadly black clipping affected device and I've noticed something really weird :
http://vimeo.com/m/16198274
Every time a bass sound pops (like a drum following the rhythm) the black clipping pattern changes. (its easier to notice this on night scenes in the corners of the video)
I don't really know if it has something to do with the black clipping problem or with the way the video was edited. What do you think?
Excuse my English, I'm Spanish

I was walking past a store and saw a Samsung tv with black clipping lol

Out device was a beta for samsung. They resolved the issue in note 2.

i still cant forget the first day i discovered it on my note ! and the saturn rings on the calculator screen :cyclops:
i cant imagine a TV with it lol
but i have a samsung pc monitor and it seems ok ....
first time i hear that its associated with sound too.....

For tell truth, I just finished to watch the video, but I didn't notice any bad clipping issue. Btw video quality was very low, but still didn't notice anything. I also decreased the brightness to lower value, but nothing changed..... Should I consider my display a good one then?

No. You must see the video in a completely dark room. Brightness screen is irrelevant.

I only see black clipping when i am in night mode. Besides that there is no black clipping even in the dark room at brightness levels given by default.
So for me it happens when i further decrease the beifhness levels.

Galaxy Note - video quality grainy??

I just received this Galaxy Note and noticed that on youtube video playback, the HQ playback on various vids look grainy and somewhat pixelated. My friend has a Nexus and the same playback looks really clear. I've always heard great things about the Note's screen so I'm really surprised and disappointed. This is noticeable on different brightness levels. Can anyone suggest what I can do to determine if my screen has issues or if there is some setting I have to tweak?
You need to update your YouTube app as the default doesn't use hd, just hq. Also HD only works over wifi.

Thanks bud, updating the app worked.
HQ=480p. Obviously when you compare it to true HD, the HD will look better...

I hope you don't have the black clipping issue that is widespread on dark videos. By your're description of pixellation, it sounds like you might... :-(

I just got my note and it's showing the black clipping issues that are described here.... should I return my not and try to get one that doesn't have this issue?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
As soon as you can, yes. Some units play almost unwatchable videos. Better units r out there

hmm.. This kinda reminds me of the Samsung screen lottery from a couple years ago lol... I'm going to do an exchange and see what happens

Yellow Tint

So on low brightness the whites seem a bit yellow. Can anyone confirm this?

I think I got ripped off. My phone doesn't have a love brightness setting :/

Its a common problem, at 0% brightness white is a tad yellow but still its much better than having blue/green or pink tint.I've tested lots of S3's in various stores all shows same phenomenon so getting your set swapped wont solve any purpose.

Well even at high brightness settings it looks a bit yellow. When I tilt the phone it looks more white and when I tilt it back you can clearly see the white is a bit yellow.

Yes its a "Bit" yellow on low brightness but on high brightness mine is pure white, its common with AMOLED they are unable to attain LCD whites. However this doesn't bother me much because I'm used to it now, keep in mind its not an tint screen is tuned bit warmer.
Ahh so it isn't just me

You bet!
Well.. It even seems to be a pretty pink compared to the GS Plus. Both at full brightness.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I think it's configured this way because blue pixels expire the quickest in amoled screens </not expert opinion>.
In either case, past phones have been able to use color controls like supercurio's app to change the tint. (And, by then you might've gotten used to it anyway.)

Sorry couldn't resist lol. My Spell Wrecker does that too.
Does it matter which screen setting you have enabled in the Settings app or is it on all of them?

I just checked it against my Note and mine is pinkish. It isn't distinguishable when not doing the comparison though.

Stop comparing displays and enjoy your S3.
I didn't notice it before the comparison and I don't notice it now. Only during. It is a non issue for me
This phone is great. No complaints here.

Galaxy s4 purplish tint/blurring

Hi. I got my SGS4 a couple of days back. Initially, didn't have any trouble at all (mostly because I had been using it on max brightness). But now I am facing an issue I had been horrendously tormented by in the past. The grey gradients have a purple tint and the greys blurr on scrolling (esp on black background). No solution or cause of the problem is apparent to me.
I used to have a Nokia C7 back in 2011 and it used to do exactly the same. This is most evident when you have lowered the brightness. The dividers in the settings blurr & turn purplish on scrolling. Watching dark scenes in a video also shows some purple/pink smudges.
Is anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me? Is it present in all the phones or just some or maybe just mine?

Well all Samsung amoled screens have some issues like earlier note 2 having yellow tint
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I know AMOELDs do have a tint. But the blurring & smudges in videos is totally unacceptable. Is there a solution to this? Like some hue/gamma correction app? Or some color calibration for such screens?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
Try some different kerner if there is one for S4 to calibrate colors..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
In some angle u will get pink or purple tint and it s not problem
It s normal to have different experience in different angles
I had pink tint on s3 from low angle on side
Just thr s no big tint in IPS screen

Has anyone, as of yet, had any luck with a different kernel?

[Q] Are you satisfied while watching videos on SG4?,

Hi guys, please, write here your experiences when watching videos/movies on SG4 screen. Its what you expected, or do you notice some bad disturbing issues like smearing etc.? Do you watch at night as well, any problems with display? Thanks for Yours replies in advance! I have SG2 now, I would like to know if watching movies steped up to higher level
Watching movies is just great. No smearing and the full hd screen is so beautiful (compared to a previous owned gs2 and gs3).

It's just awesome. The picture is sharp as a razor.
There's just one small glitch: when you're watching a movie with dark areas, you may see a difference in areas where pixels are pure black. I mean, you do notice when the leds are turned off. But it's not that much of an issue.

Thanks. Black patches, maybe because of smearing issue? Might will help use of free app Screen Adjuster - when set RBG values +5 / or set constrast value -10. Could you please try and let me know?
With the screen adjuster on smearing/ghosting/black patches whatever you wanna call it is gone but blacks look grey..

Coming from an S2, i am incredibly satisfied with the S4 screen.
The blacks look incredible and everything is razor sharp in HD. Also, the phone is very comfortable to hold since they've packed a huge 5" screen into a fairly small device.
Coming from an s1, the screen, holy f*** its gorgeous! Everytime I stick it on its dock to charge and it lights up at full brightness Its just beautiful!

Purple tint

Anybody got this? In low brightness some darker elements(specially gray) start become a little purplish
Also the colors seem less saturated in the default screen mode than the s3(also in standard) i thought i would be the opposite, is my screen defective or is this normal
I tried google but all i get are galaxy nexus results(purple tint)

Welcome to S4. Every galaxy S4 has this. Please refer to other threads on how to get rid of this smearing through software.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
The OP doesn't mention smearing.
This is a different issue to the smearing problem.
When the brightness is on low greys become purple. I have had 4 different S4s (all had to be replaced due to screen issues) and every single one had this problem on low brightness.
IMO there is no such thing as a perfect S4 screen!
I have finally settled on my 4th replacement and this one is still not great but I'm sick of returning them.
I have a pink tint at the top of this screen and also all the sensors, LED and front camera are misaligned in the casing, All over to the left.
Samsung have REALLY failed on the Quality Control of this device.
So it seems universal, well i will have to turn off auto brightness and use brightness at 30%
Any of u guys came from the s3? Do the s4 colors seem a little less saturated to u guys? I have them both side by side and it seems so

Yes. I had s3 before and the less saturation on S4 is intentional by Samsung. According to some detailed comparison, the colors of s4 are more accurate. It seems odd at first because our eyes are used to the oversatured screen of s3.
