google play not working in most custom roms - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

i have tried a lot of custom roms but one of the major bugs in those roms is that google play doesnt work.....
it works in stock rom however
what might be the problem for this abd pleeez tell me how to fix it
more info: whenever i open google play in custom roms like creeds rom, jellyblast v3, chobit digitals, etc etc
it opens and then after some time it doesnt load at all..... infact pocket data itself stops working
then i have to clear data of google services framework and download manager and market updater and reboot to get the pocket data working again however if i open google play again i have do all this sh*t again
so i have no choice but to uninstall google play in custom roms......
PLEEZ SOMEONE GIVE ME A SOLUTION FOR THIS

Download system apps installer root from playstore
In Google type Google play store 3.10.10 apk and download a copy
Install using system apps installer root
If your using jb v3 make sure you have ota 1 2 3 & 4 installed - they are are on page 1 of the Rom thread - all must be flashed in cwm in number order with system mounted

i usually do this (for any app)
download apk
install normally
move to sd card using link to sd
then convert it to system app using link to sd
did the same for google play too
should it work??

Take the apk for Google play rename it vending.apk and place in system/app then change its permissions to rw-r-r you'll need root also rename the original vending.apk to vending.bak
Use an app like root explorer or es file explorer and turn on root related features
Oh and Google play works on all of those roms the reason they probably don't work for u Is because you keep restoring the problem with titanium

Sounds like ftf file is not in the right format, or you put the ftf somewhere other than firmware folder. Heard some people saying that some of the links download a zip file. If it's a zip file rename it ftf, or if you have more than one flash tool saved on your computer, did you accidentally put it and older flash tool/firmware folder?

ok i just redownload the ftf file, and can see the file now.
thanks, i managed to install DT, but now trying to make it work for every apps.
is there any other free programs like Root explorer? or do i really need to buy the app to make dual touch work on every app:

Root Explorer is the most useful app on my phone, and if you like to play with your phone it is well worth it. However, you can do it for free with adb commands. You need SDK set up on your computer, or use the app terminal emulator. I suggest using terminal emulator, because setting up SDK TOOLS can be pretty involved if you've never done anything like this before. For the correct commands, check My_immortal's guide to making dualtouch work on stock apps in the development section. It's in the middle of the thread somewhere. My advice, if time is money to you, spend the 2 bucks on Root Explorer and support the developers. You'll use it all the time with a rooted phone.

thanks for the reply, i spent like 1-2 days trying to get it to work and cant find any free apps, tried some but doesnt work. i end up buying root exlorer and its damn so easy to copy files across and set the permissions where as other apps give me a big headache.
i dont no wats adb, but i think in future i will use the app again when there is more good stuff like dual touch and i need to copy files and set permission.

You can also use it to uninstall system apps that you don't use but are eating up all your RAM and space, like Timescape, SE sync, SE backup & restore. Chinese keyboard, moxier, play now. Another useful app you should get is titanium backup (free version in the market). Then get xRecovery and enable JIT, and watch your X10 fly. There are all kinds of things you can do now that you're rooted. Search xda Xperia forum for guides for noobs.

Copy this File into the firmwares folder directly!
and copy the "Dualtouch" Folder inside the Firmwares Folder of Flashtool.
After that just flash and reboot =)
If the Rom is capable of Dual-/Multitouch you will have it now.

NOTE:
This will just ADD dualtouch feature to your ROM. It will not wipe userdata or something else, see it as an addon =)

Press BACK button few times right after white SE label appears.
Controls:
Use VOLUME-UP and VOLUME-DOWN to browse, HOME to select, BACK to go back.
Features:
ADB root shell
Reboot
Install update.zip from SD Card
Factory reset (full wipe)
Wipe cache partition
Install custom zip
Backup and Restore
Partition tools
Mount/unmount partitions
Format partitions
Mount as USB Storage
Advanced options
Wipe Dalvik cache
Wipe battery stats
Fix permissions for apps (FC fix)
Automatic Installation (recommended):
Open xRecovery installer app and tap "Install xRecovery"
Manual Installation:
- Download the apk, rename it to xRecovery-0.2-release.ZIP
- Unpack the file, find ./res/raw folder inside. It should contain 3 files (chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar)
- copy these 3 files into /system/bin using root explorer (remember to remount /system rw
Notes:
Please bear in mind that it's not the regular android recovery (we cannot replace recovery image without cracked bootloader). Instead, the boot hijacking is used to start recovery mode. You still need basic files on your /system partition to use this. NEVER use the "format /system" option alone (without flashing another system image thereafter).
This recovery is NOT compatibile with Dual Booting for custom roms (for now you can't have both).
This recovery WILL be used to flash custom roms easily.
DO NOT reinstall busybox. Recovery depends on it's particular busybox version.
Requirements:
1. Phone must be rooted
2. Busybox from the market installed
Changelog:
0.2-release: fixed installation issues for those with trashed mtd0 partition
0.1-release: xRecovery installer app - thanks zoz33!
0.0.1-beta: Initial release (for testers)

No offense to XperiaX10iUser because he is basically one of the Godfathers of xda Xperia forum, but the xRecovery explanation he sited may sound Greek or scare off a noob. It did for me, however I've learned that you don't have to understand everything first in order to use it. I think of it like this... xRecovery is a noobs best friend, that will allow you to do most of the cool things on xda, and enabling JIT is your X10's best friend. Basically xRecovery allows you to select from a menu a lot of the things you used to need your computer and a lot of know-how to do. It's a lot like a drop down menu you use on Windows. Click on the option and it does the work for you. No need to know everything it does, as each time you use it you will learn more about it.
I don't technically understand JIT, but enabling JIT in simple terms does something with how you phone uses your sdcard and RAM. It speeds up the visual component, so the screen reacts smoothly. For one thing, when you scroll through your app tray it does not tick or lag.
I'm on my phone so I can't provide a link.
You can also improve performance and battery life by using root explorer or titanium backup to uninstall unused or heavy resource using system apps. I have removed Timescape, Play Now, SE sync, SE backup & restore, moxier mall, Chinese & Korean keyboards, PC Companion, Social Networking Service, Face Recognition, and more. Timescape is the big one if you are not using it. Search this forum for a full list of safe apps to remove.

[MMS][MOD] Softbank Japan HTC Sense & Stock Mms app (updated 7 Nov)

These are confirmed working ONLY on the Android version listed below on the SOFTBANK network in JAPAN and requires ROOT ACCESS unless you are already on stock Android
SMS's and MMS's in Japan are called S'Mail. The main difference is this: You can either enter the phone number or the email of your recipient and any length of text or attachments can be sent (Works like emails, but it also uses phone numbers as an address). The problem is that unless your Rom or phone comes from Japan, you will be limited to SMS functionality only, if you are lucky.
The main problem is that the company requires a specific useragent to be specidied by the messaging app. I use Softbank here in Tokyo so I have made some tweaks get the apps to work for a few versions of Android that I have been using. I thought I would share them in the hopes of helping others out too.

HTC Sense Instructions
I have finally found a way to get the stock Sense messaging app to work. It actually works much better than the stock android once you get it going. There is no app to install. Sense copies the UserAgent information from a default file into it's internal database the first time you boot your phone after a factory reset or new installation (data wiped). The Stock app reads the database to get the UserAgent. I created a recovery flash-able file to make it easier.
Flash View attachment SoftbankSenseUserAgent.zip (Taken from ARHD 4.1.1) or View attachment SoftbankSenseJBUserAgent31.zip (Taken from ARHD 31-4.2.2) after a full data wipe or after fresh install (FLASH BEFORE FIRST BOOT) - (Updated 4 Sep 2012)
After flash, boot device for first time.
Don't forget to add your Softbank APN details.
DONE
You can do this on your phone before you do a factory reset or edit a ROM.zip before you flash it. The IMPORTANT thing is that it's a factory reset or completely fresh (data-wipe) install. Once booted and your APN is entered the stock app should work nicely.
USEFUL TIP: Once you get this working once. Use Titanium Backup App to backup "Customization Settings Provider". Restore this on any sense ROM after this and your messages will work. This is handy if flash often and don't have time to unzip each new ROM.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING THE APPS:
Try this first - just download and install the apk. If the install has no errors this is the easiest way. Your good to go.
If you get an error message - (Your phone MUST have root access from here)
1. Delete the Message app from your /system/app folder (Could be Mms.apk or something different with other providers)
2. Copy and paste the downloaded MMS.apk into the system/app folder and change permissions to match the other apps in that folder
OR
2. Restart your phone and install the downloaded app as usual.
OMG, I have tried so many times with adb and apktool but just couldn't get it done!
Thanks!

Do you have a silver or black sim card? Which APN are you using? I can only vouch for the silver sim card with the "open.softbank.ne.jp" APN. This downloads pictures.
I don't think the MMS app was designed to be able to download other types of attachments like gmail. I'll look into it though.
Edit: looked into it. Only pictures as far as I can tell.
Here's my Mms.apk for ICS - I modified one that has Emoji support (and changed the UserAgent and URL for Softbank compatibility). Have tested receiving and sending MMS and it works fine.
It is styled after Sense and so has avatars and speech bubbles:

Brilliant thanks! I was going to do this for my new One X that arrives tomorrow. I'll put it into the first post with credits to you. Just let me know if this isn't ok.
That's fine by me. I can't take the credit for actually making the app, I got it from here, and modified the config files to use the correct user agent strings. I hope people find it useful.
I have unlocked and rooted the HTC One X (International) by All-in-One Root Tool. Still with stock ROM/Kernel, SuperSU v0.90 and CWM recovery v5.8.4.0.
But would you mind providing an instruction how to install the MmsEmoji.apk?
First rename it into Mms.apk, then use ES file explorer to install the downloaded apk, it says "an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed".
Then try to mount system/app into R/W with the mount/system app from Google Play. Still cant copy the mms.apk into system/app folder.
PS. Watching Thunder vs Heat in the same time is not very productive

Changes?
What changes did you make to the source code?
I'd like to keep building this myself when versions get changed.
I did change the User Agent to iPhoneOS, but you are talking about some URL as well. What file is this, and what do i change it to?
Thanks!
@BrianInfo,
Sure. Your phone does need to be rooted, so you can remount /system/app read/write. I always do it from the bootloader, where my desire's system partition security is off. Then you can just
adb push EmojiMms.apk /system/app/Mms.apk and reboot.
You can probably do it from Android if your system partition is not security protected (S-OFF), by going to a shell, remount /system rw, and then deleting Mms.apk and putting the modified one in its place. You will need to reboot after that, though.
@viddy,
I used apktool to unpack the source code. The file you need to edit is res/xml/mms_config.xml.
Change the userAgent entry to
Code:
<string name="userAgent">iPhoneOS/3.0 (7A341)</string>
and then change the uaProfUrl to
Code:
<string name="uaProfUrl">http://www.google.com/oha/rdf/ua-profile-kila.xml</string>
I also had a problem where I could receive but not send due to the maxMessageSize being set too high. It's currently set at 307200, which is working fine. maxImageHeight is 768 and maxImageWidth is 1024, but you could probably play around with those if you wanted to see what the maximum allowed image dimensions/message size is according to Softbank. I pinched those values from dombayo's Mms.apk, and they work fine.
Then just rebuild it using apktool, and sign using jarsigner, after doing a zipalign. You're good to go!
With this it let's you be able to see emojis from iPhones? Or just allows you to send
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Jaemo, it does both. You can also use emoji in your messages.

Go to the HTC MMS app with you root explorer. Rename to MMS.bak or delete the file. Then do either of these 2 steps:
Copy and paste the new MMS.apk into the system/app folder and change permissions to match the others in that folder OR
Restart your phone. After this just click MMS.apk and it should install normally.
will this work for Sprint?
none of these are working for me?!
Jaemo, what specifically isn't working? Emoji? Sending mms? These apks are made specifically for Softbank's network, and while they may work on sprint, we can't test that. You're probably better off getting one of the emoji-enabled mms.apk files linked from one of my posts on the first page, which is not modified to work with Softbank. But we'll need more info if we are to help you effectively. What have you tried?

This won't work on sprint in the USA. Its only for Japan.

Seems like a nice little tool for tweaking ROMs a bit. Hopefully you can add more features in the future, but even as it is, it should be handy for anyone who wants to tweak ROMs a little bit. By my understanding, it should allow the removal of preinstalled rubbish from stock ROMs, right?
I see you are using Ionic.Zip.dll the same one I used in Droid Manager for creating Custom Roms Too
But you have an issue bro
1- Make My Rom button doesn't work on the first run, I had to close and reopen the program.
2- the result zipped ROM will fail to flash in CWM & is twice in size than the original ROM
why it will fail, because if you open the result zipped file you will find a folder that has the project's title and the ROM files are inside that folder.
while CWM checks for META-INF folder on the root directory of the zipped ROM.
The reason why it's twice in size than the original ROM is because after the program unzips the base rom it doesn't delete it from workspace which causing "Ionic.Zip.dll" to include it in the result zipped rom making it twice in size than the original ROM.
Also please note that adding a data folder in the project will not lead into having anything inside /data/app after the rom is flashed because the updater-script must be modified to include the commands which tell CWM to: A- Mount Data Partition. B- Extract contents of data folder in the zipped file to Data Partition on the phone.
Also it would be better if your program doesn't fully remove the files from the hard disk, rather than just moving them to Recycle bin it's safer, since they can be retrieved
I'm sorry for that comment but I thought I would give you a quick feedback since it's the main step in making a better program
Good luck
does this support aroma installer ?
Any way,big thanks to you dude

Thanks a bunch for your suggestions. Wow...I just learned my lesson of why I should never leave catch statemetns empty lol. And I didn't know that about the data/app folder thing. I went back and added some code to add lines to the setup-script though I haven't tested it yet, so I'll see if that works. Haha, but thanks again for helping me catch those bugs, lol tell me if you find anymore.

[B][Guide]Noob Guide To Set File Permission's[/B]

Hey Guys i have often seen lot of Question regarding the same "How to set the file permission,sorry i am a noob please explain?"
well this we come across on all threads, at some given point of time.
Reason being simple that we suggest some people to do as said below:
Hey,
1) copy the file XXXX to your Internal or External sd-card.
2) push the file XXXX to sytem/xxxx folder.
3) set permissions to rw-r--r-- blah blah blah.
4) reboot your phone and see.
Then comes the question again from the same people as below:
Hey,
1) I have done accordingly, but really confused regarding File permission though please explain?
2) How to set File Permission?
3) what is rw-r--r-- blah blah i cannot get it? etc.
So this Simple Guide will defenetly help the people with the same.
In order to set the file permission all you need is to have Root explore/Browser or similar type of File manager app been installed on your phone, with Root access.
when you open the File manager you see all your files and folder listed there, thats not our main concern, but something below each one of those file's or folder's, what we are really interested in like:
under say Data folder you see something like 'rwxrwx--x' which is of real concern here.
when you long press on the same Data Folder a pop appears as below
Fig 1
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and when you select Permissions in that pop up menu it appears as below.
Fig 2
as you can see in the pic above the permission is set to 'rwxrwx--x' (771 according to Table below)
So in order to set the right Permission for a file, after you have copied the file to the relavent folder, all you have to follow is the below steps and also the Table guide below it.
1)Any File Manager app like Root Explorer/Browser,Es-file explorer installed with root access.
2)Find the File which you have copied to the appropriate Folder for which you have to set Permissions with the above installed file manager app.
3) Long press on the file to open a pop up menu as shown in Fig 1 above.
4)Set Permission accordingly ( been suggested by people for you) using the table guide below as reference.
5) Then reboot your phone for the same (Permission set) to take effect.
Table Guide for Reference
----------------------------------
No- Box is Unchecked, Yes- Box Checked
So, for example:
777 is the same as rwxrwxrwx
755 is the same as rwxr-xr-x
666 is the same as rw-rw-rw- and so on.
I do hope this Guide will come in handy to all those people who want to set filepermission, but need some clarity upon the same.
All Credit to Sun90 for his Excellent Tutorial on 'Understanding File Permissions' which being an inspiration for me to make this Guide in Galaxy S3 section.

yeah That is why This type of tutorial thread must be sticky :angel:
Maybe u can also add the value for each permission in the OP....ie
Read (r) has value 4..
Write (w) has value 2..
Execute (x) has value 1..
This wud make it easier to understand n corelate between the numerical and alphabetical permission values...
Eg. rwxrwxrw- = 776 bcoz of above.

Manually "fixing permissions" is better left to more experienced and advanced users. Most CWM recoveries have "fix permissions" under "advanced" item in the menu that does a fine job. This is not to take any credit from you for a useful thread you have started but just adding a word of caution.

All I am saying is this is serious business,certainly not for 'noobs'.Besides,you have discussed only data apps and not system apps.I have been on Android since the donut days and am personally comfortable with tinkering around.
Now to your question,if you have to replace any system app,you begin by getting into the system apps folder to rename the old app(as against deleting it,just in case),fix the permissions of the replacement app outside the system app folder and then copy that into the system folder.
Someone skips a step and gets into FCs!
Which is why something like ROM Manager is used efffectively for fixing permissions.
Like I mentioned before,this is not to challenge your post in anyway but only to advocate caution...any guide for noobs must anticipate pitfalls and give a work around...
Best wishes.

[Q] Live wallpaper from previous generations

i'm trying to get the live wallpaper from my previous Galaxy Note to work (Ocean Weather or Windy Weather). I have allowed unknown sources. It gets all the way as far as the install screen (where it shows the permissions), i click install... it attempts to install and then i get "the application was not installed".
I tried an apk i exported myself using ES Explorer; and one that someone had posted a while back, that was taken from a GS2.
Either way... these were some of the coolest and most useful LWP around (and they were FREE) why oh why would google/verizon/samsung drop them?
Anyone know how to get these to work? Or does this require root?

I've taken some live wallpapers from the Note 2 and have them working on the Note 3. Try copying and moving the apk from wherever you have it on your phone/sd card to system/app and setting the permissions. Reboot and it should work.
