SD Formatter.....!!!....To Format FAT32 the propper way...!! - Hardware Hacking General

There is a lot said about how to format/repair an SDcard ,in my opinion and due to experiance a lot of different devices besides Android(Navi-Cams-Eproms etc.etc)for quite some years now, there is only ONE tool that should be used at first and that's SD FORMATTER !! a tool what has been around for quite some years now......a tool thats recommended by all the SD vendors.....and can be downloaded for free from the SD Association website....!!! Also everything you want to know about SDcards and what they are all about can be found here...
sdcard.org
So never mess things up again and use it because its made for the job,and never waist useless time preparing your SDcard !!!
The reason i tell you this is that i read over and over again problems getting it right....so before you go partitioning it,prepare it....!!! The way it should....:good:

Probably it has something to do with CWM . Download SD Formatter from this link ,format and its perfectly fresh again.Otherwise it disfunctions and its broke....give it a try and let us know if it did the job right OK...?!

[Q] Creating EXT4 on SD

Hi all,
I am going CRAZY trying to find an easy way for me to create an EXT4 partition on my SD card.
Every guide i see tells me to burn a CD wich i cant because i dont have a burner, and then there's the risk of wiping my Hard drive when booting and using Gparted.
Then there are other guides telling me to have a rooted android and all kinds of other options wich i dont have...
Can ANYONE please point me in the right direction (tutorial) or just post a little guide in this thread on how to create an EXT4 partition the easy way...?
I really want to install a final rom for my phone but it's impossible without having a good SD card to save my apps to.
Really reaaaally THANKS in advance
Hi,
Have a look for Mini Tool Partition Wizard in google, it runs under Windows!
Regards.

As far as I can see it can only do EXT3 etc but not EXT4
Paragon Hard Disk Manager has the Ext4 option available, have never used it though

You're right, but most of nand ROM support EXT3.

This whole partition thing is a mess. Ive read through numerous threads, been told to do this and that, download mini tools, gparted and paragon, oh and cwr. I really cant get my head around it at all. I currently stuck on the wp7 rom and reading what i have to do to get one of the new nand builds to work, i haven't got a clue. Before I used the gauner hd build (nand with a fat32 sd card).
It's not that hard...
And you don't need to burn GParted to a CD or DVD. You can also install it to a USB Flash Drive and boot off that.

I feel your pain.
Most of the time I have been lucky but when I made a human error, which is called a screwup, you loose alot of time. Now time is something most of us don't have lying around.
There is a build that I am now on which is good I must admit. The way to have the build on your HD2 is simple and straight forward if you follow what is on the page. No bothering with making 'special' partitions via the pc just via the HD2 and it just ... works.
I know the guy has been banned from XDA for copying builds, so I must be using someone elses build from here, hehe
Google 'mccm joon' and you will get to the page. The build is called MCCM HD V5.1 Data2SD.
I formated my sd card to Fat32 before I began and then I followed the very clear instructions in his thread.
Been working like a charm the last couple of days.
Never hesitate to ask for help if you are stuck and can't find a solution!
Thanks, I'll have a look. Ive managed to put the old gauner hd build on and formatted the sd card for now.
Thanks for the replies everyone
Booting from SD seems like the perfect solution i completely overlooked that option :O
I do think it's very weird that we can't manage our SD's (partitions) in windows with some normal program..
Thanks again!

[Q] Big SD Problem.....HELP

Hy every body, does some one heard about SD damaged after a FAT32/EXT4 Format?
Let me explain myself:
I've SD-FROMATTED my sd, then using GPARTED LIVE SD in my HD2 in MAGLDR
i've created two partitions:
1/ FAT32
2/ EXT4
I do have click on "apply".
Now, my SD is unreadable and unrecognized by my phone.
The oly way i have to use it now is FAT32 only.
It is the third time i do the partitioning on this SD and it's the first time it does'nt work
HEEELP!!!
I've heard about file corruption using MAGLDR USB MassStg...Is-it true
Thanks for your anwers
No answer? Nobody?
download panasonic SD Formatter 3.0 and that will sort it no probs.
matt
Try Panasonic SD Formatter as mentioned above. With the stock SD card I've had problems formatting using a card reader, however. I had to flash back to a windows mobile rom, connect to PC as a hard drive (not active sync) and re-format the card via that method. It's a pain, but try this if you're really stuck.
Thanks i'll try those methodes
i use minitool partition manager
but first go to control panes, then computer management, devices, find your sd card and right click on it. select create new disk label and that should solve your problem.
now after that run minitool partition manager and you 'll be able to see your sd car as new disk (or something) just create a new partition as (fat32, primary) format maybe that could solve your problem.
(the same thing happen to mee and i was about to cry because of it)
(sorrry for bad english, i'm still learning)
Thanks kof102. I'm on it

Also, as a long time Android recovery user (I went through several Android phones before coming around to the HD2), I would highly recommend formatting your card using Clockwork Recovery.

One problem can be that when try create a Ext partition using CWR it only creates an Ext2 which isn't really the best.
I've seen on differnt French forums that i'm not alone. Is there a Risk formatting and partitioning an SD Card, that is not done for, to damage allocation Table?
My SD is dead now. Not even my PC, my Phone or else are abble to find my SD. Have you heard about that?
No answer? No body?
try using EASEUS Partition Master 7.0.1 Home Edition with this u will be able to see what is going on.. hope it helps.
Thanks, Have you allready heard about that befor?
I had a problem with my SD it didn't come up on my pc too, when I was playing with the dual booting partition making for wp7 and android. some how it messed up and SD didn't come up so I found this program Easeus and some how managed it to work again it was a simple problem that all I had to do is to recreate the partition and only after that u can format it. if it doesn't exist u format nothing actualy lol.
hope u have the same problem.
I've tried EASUS but it was unable to read my SD...
I think it's dead now...
I've bought an other one and part it with CWM. It's EXT2 but it work perfectly!
Maybe it could be nice to check if nobody else had the same than me...and tell it to Master COTULLA!
No body else?

200 MB on SD card?

Can some one tell me what happened? I've installed android to nand memory and now my sd card only shows 200 mg of space, I took some pictures and now is full, where did my 16gb go? Can someone help me find a solution? Thank you for your help.
No one knows, since you provide 0 information. You can also just check it yourself by examining your sd card in your pc.
XDA-members are not some sort of magicians who can wave their magic wand and everything is fixed.

thanks for nothing....here is the information, installed android on HD2 on nand memory like the instructions here now it shows 200mb, can someone really help me find out where the rest of the gb went?
can you link the instructions you followed to install nand? also did you partition your sd card correctly? you can double check to see how your sd card is partitioned by using this free program. if i had to take a guess it would seem you have partitioned your sd card backwards but there is little info to go by so its really a stab in the dark.
had wp7 installed before? wp7 formats all your sd card to some weird wp7 only format, leaving just 200gb as normal, readable space.

Do you know how to fix it?
format your sd card with panasonic sd formatter in your pc.'cause i had the same thing before, and solved this way.
i would backup your sd card to your computer and then once you have backed it up format it with what ever partition manager you like. i personally use minitool 6 which i posted on post 4. then place a fresh copy of android on your sd and flash as normal. dont forget to wipe date/cache/delvic. i cant say for sure if this would fix the problem but i have noticed this simple process fix some of the problems i've had in the past.

[Q] Partitioning issues.

Hello, I need some help with partitioning my Micro SD card. It is an 8GB class 6, and I know the basics, but that is it. What I really need to know is HOW to partition my SD card and what the hell 'EXT2/3/4' is all about. Now, I have had different suggestions as to what to do, I have to disc all ready with Gparted installed, and I am ready to use it, yet I have been told by some members of XDA the partitioning isn't even a requirement for ROMs. Is this true? I have a Euro HD2, and recently when trying to partition my SD card through Clockwork Mod (CLK) my SD card's memory dropped from 8GB to around 6.5GB. I have tried formatting it as I always do, but nothing seems to come of it. Anyway, what I would like to know is how and why I need to partition, especially EXT2/3/4 as this particular partition has come up on most ROMs I wish to install.
I hope someone can shine some light on this issue.
Thanks in advance -- Joe
(PS - I will click thanks for anyone who gives useful information)

First thing
Closckwork Mod is NOT CLK, they are different
if your memorcy card dropped from 8GB to 6.5~ , then your partioning was succesfull , what you cant see is the EXT partion that only android can see,
Go ahead and flash a EXT supported ROM , have fun

Sorry, I didn't realise they were different (CLK - Clockwork Mod) But if you say that the partitioning worked, then does that mean I have done all of the partitions, or just one?
You just need one partition not many ... so I guess you can find out by trying an ext supported ROM... try coredroid 1.6

Help please...problems with my 8gb internal micro sd card

Hello all, i'm new and noob in the android OS and tablets and stuff, so i'l need a little help from you if you would like...i've got a dell streak 5 and somehow i managed to open it and mount an internal micro sd card 8GB class 10 and i installed a android 2.2 on it with the fast boot and qdl tool. now when i try to install some apps i always receive the following msg: sorry, there's not enough space to install this item. i have a 6.4 gb of free space so...what's the problem here? it is not formatted ? and if is not how should i do this?
please help
try to unmount the external sd and try again
U need to research which card are compatible with the streak... I think it only recognizes 2 or 4gb idr
But anywho, you can't just throw in a big card without even seeing if it'll work first..

That's not true. I have an 8gb card on mine class 4 and works good.

I did it and worked. Obviously the internal card is just for apps... is he intents to use it as media, he has to make the hack on the link
well, thanks for your help, but i recall i'm a noob and i'm going to remain a noob until i can understand you language. do stuff like linux hack os not so simple for me. yes, i can do it with a proper tutorial or so...so, if you already did this, please take me step by step like a tutorial.

If you want the internal SD for apps, but open it, change you internal SD, and make a factory reset (NOT from the custom recovery, use the Dell screen).
Or do you mean to open your Dell?

You didn't format it before inserting the new card? The internal sd should be ext3 like this:
Code:
/dev/block/innersd0p5 /cache ext3 rw,nosuid,noatime,nodiratime,errors=continue,commit=99999,data=writeback 0 0
/dev/block/innersd0p6 /data ext3 rw,nosuid,nodiratime,errors=continue,commit=99999,data=writeback 0 0
I don't know how you could install the rom without having acorrect partition type on your sd card, though. Check to see using 'adb shell mount' on your PC. To format the sd card, you'd need a program like parted.
Hope it didn't misunderstand your problem.
yes, i installed android 2.2 without formatting the micro-sd card. if i'm correct, you'll need ext3 partition for the apps, not for the os. or it's done auto when i did this with the qdltool software.
i'll try something else and i'll post the result here
