Create a new blank file in the folder you want to be ignored by Google's media scanner named .nomedia I believe. I may have the exact name incorrect...

Either in a file explorer or with the device connected to the computer, navigate to the folder that contains the files you don't want it to see. Then create a blank file (with no file extension) and simply call it .nomedia

You rebooted, right? You might have to wipe the app's data also, because this only prevents it from finding it when it scans for new files. Or perhaps it just doesn't work with Play.

I am trying to add a link (icon) to a movie (Transformers 2) to my home screen just like the Avatar movie has. I have decompiled the apk for avatar, replaced the icon with one of my own and changed all references to avatar within the files to reflect Transformers 2. I have also changes the path within the files to point to where the new movie is. When I go to compile it, everything goes well. When I go to install it on my phone, it gives me an error that it was not installed. Can anyone look at this and give me a pointer?
I have the icon labeled the same as the avatar logo, just because I didn't want to rename it within the file as I kept getting compiling errors when I did change it.
Just download a file explorer program long press on the home screen click shortcuts go to your file explorer and find transformers. That's what I did with my leftover card from the hd2

Not sure what you're getting at. If I choose my file manager program all it does is link to it. I want to be able to have an icon on my screen that launches the file itself, just like it does avatar. Thanks for the reply though.
The logcat output should show the real error message, use adb logcat to view it. Did you resign the apk?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes, I resigned it without error. Where can I find the logcat after a failed install?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
kinda off topic, but where is the avatar movie stored? i havnt been able to find it on the sdcard?
Its on the external sdcard in a folder called movie

If you have astro installed. You can go to the widget menu, click shortcut, click astro, click the movie. That will add a shortcut directly to the movie on your desktop.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Awesome, thanks youneek. Now if there is a way to change the icon. hmmmmm

OK this is a bit annoying when viewing my photos via media-gallery, I am met with lots of pictures which are pictures of all the apps I have on my phone. Is their anyway of stopping these and only viewing my own photos as this is so annoying tjamks.?
Yes you just need to put a .nomedia file in all the folders you dont want to media scan.

you can also use ES File Explorer (free on market)
open it and go the the folder with the pictures/files you dont want to show then press menu, New file & save as .nomedia
App devs who don't do this by default, are just plain lazy

So just now gallary and videos app stopped finding files on my sd card but when I use a file explorer everything is there? I tried uninstalling and installing the gallary app again but that didn't help. Has anyone ever had this issue? I'm trying to dogde reflashing my rom... it seems the problem is media scanner doesn't run because when I rebooted my phone it didn't show up at first like it always does.

Try using an app like QuickPic and see if they show up. If they don't, make sure the folders containing you media aren't hidden (have a "." at the beginning of the folder name). Also check to make sure somehow there wasn't a .nomedia file placed in there somewhere.
If none of those work, time to reflash.

I haven't tried it but believe that QuickPic would work because the stock video app doesn't find any files but mobo player still works normally. I'm just having problems with media scanner not running. Any app which I could refresh or rescan from within the app finds all my stuff but any app that depends on media scanner doesn't find anything. Idk why media scanner won't run though. Its not that big of a problem but I may have to reflash.
Thanks though =).

Is there a system app that has to do with media scanner? Because I believe I may have uninstalled it or replaced it with an older version that isn't working anymore. I was working on a port of the Epic Dark Horse theme and I didn't pay that much attention to what are the app files already in it. It may have had an older media scanner app that doesn't work on my phone now when I flashed it. That's like the only thing I can possibly think of that messed up media scanner. Is there such an app?

Took a few pics yesterday and I restored my nandroid from a few days ago. Now all the pictures are gone from my gallery BUT I can still see them in my file explorer. How do I get the pictures to appear again in the Gallery?! Thanks!!

hehe either, you got me, I would move to another directory and see if it scans the new dir.
copy will also work, then make sure it see 's your new dir, then delete the other.

That was the first thing suggested and I tried that and it didn't work! :/
PS- You don't hafta have tibu to do that, you can do it from Menu--->Manage Apps-->Gallery--->Wipe data/cache.

Still hasn't found them? what the heck is going on, go into gallery settings and manually add the directory, it will force the directory to be scanned then.

I have a certain folder with "only for my eyes" content that I have always had hidden by using a . Before the folder. (.folder) I come from an S3 so I had a microsd card which I sorry miss but I had transferred everything without issue but once I added a new photo too the folder it now shows up in my gallery. Resetting the cache on gallery and reboot has not helped.
Any help you guys can offer?

Try creating a blank file .nomedia inside the folder. Then the Gallery wont read it.

Thanks but that didn't do it unfortunately. A reset of the gallery and a reboot got rid of the new photo. But once I put a new one in there it again appeared in gallery.

using the stock gallery? why not long press and hit hidden folders.. you can then hide it.

^^^ What he said. But still, strange that the .nomedia trick didn't work. Worked on mine. But I haven't added any new pics to the folder, though
