Hi everyone, I have loads of free time and some coding knowledge, I would love to port roms to our note 10.1 as its not that popular N8010 users, you know what I'm talking about. Anyway. My question is how do I port roms from similar devices. like the nexus 7. Tab 2 10.1 and so on, can someone point me in the right direction for porting or just complete new room development?

Actually I have requested once under About XDA-developers category, but yet no reply from them. I been thinking to have a sub-forum of Omnia II Android Development like the one in HD2. This is because it is easier to browse through and also to share this big piece news with all the omnia II users over here. This also helps to prevent some XDA users to keep started out a new thread just to ask whether Android is working.
This project is a on-going project and I believe that the dev team will try their best to make this ROM completely working on our Omnia II. I think they deserved a specialised sub-forum for Android Development.

ANDROID ON OMNIA 2, check here
I think this is one example why there should be a split forum on Omnia 2 ROM development, some user just don't know about the Android development yet.
I know how badly you want the Android subforum 13ong91. And your request is STILL under consideration with our admin team. I'll see if I can get an answer ASAP, but for now, this thread is pointless.

Having owned the International GS3 i9300 and expecting so much from a phone with such powerful and capable hardware, it was a shame to see all the major devs abandoning it because of crapsung's stubbornness with giving out Exynos and other hardware sources. Since its safe to say almost everyone buys the Nexus for dev support, it would be good to see some devs voicing their opinion about how easy it would be to, say port CM10 (or 10.1) to it. How 'open' is the hardware on the Nexus 4? With all the recent 'less than stellar' reviews about the phone (I already know the reviewers had pre-release firmwares), it would be good to know if custom kernels and such can bring out the full potential of the beast that is S4 Pro.
I am a complete n00b, so apologies if this is inappropriate in any way.

Wrong section you should post in the question/answers section.
Anyway to answer your question Qualcomm is pretty much open with their processors and I don't believe there would be any problems building kernels and porting roms.
This is going to be locked / moved.
Nexus devices get CM10 very fast as you only need too add Cyanogenmod source merges and compile it to the Nexus 4 AOSP source and its good to go.
'In retrospect, I think this belongs to the general section! Derp! Can someone move it there?'

It could of gone in either but I think it best suits the q&a section because you are specifically asking a question and you want an answer in return.
Wrong section, ib4tl
Edit: Also, just to put in something useful, this phone WILL be improved, if there are ANY software issues. This is the phone that will have the most dev support in years, with it's low price. In addition, CM isn't "ported", per say, it is built from source.

Since its a nexus device, the source tree is already in aosp so custom ROMs like cm10, aokp, etc will appear almost instantly. No need to do any major hacks get stuff fully working like other phones.. Same with kernels, the source will be available immediately, so there's no waiting for the new kernel sources (*COUGH COUGH * HTC)

I think molesarecoming is planning to bring ParanoidAndroid over to the Nexus 4
Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to run Ubuntu touch on our phones? I've seen that the nexus 5 and 7 can somewhat run it, but can ours? Oh and just in case, mods if I'm posting in the wrong forum or wrong topic please correct me, wasn't sure where I could post this.
there is only few developers that develop roms for our galaxy s5 and we still dont have a freebug cm11 and we dont have paranoid
so i think it will not happen due to few devs and hard work and plus they are developing as a hobby.
and sorry devs no offence ,you're doing a great jobs for our lovely S5
Hi guys,
I have been looking around for options to dual-boot on my Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910F. I have not been able to find anything... All of the options stop at the Galaxy Note 3.
I have looked around on the Google Play Store and the apps that allow you to dual-boot are the apps that don't support the Galaxy Note 4 or Samsung devices at all.
Has anyone found anything, or can anyone find anything on this subject? I'm not bricking my device as a guinea pig to see if any existing method works. A lot of effort replacing my phone through insurance and putting everything back on.
Ask here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 this is for SG4 but also works on N3. Maybe it will work also on N4.

Thank you for your response quick response... Whilst this does answer most of the questions I do not think that there any any custom kernels for the Galaxy Note 4 that support the dual-boot function as of yet. I will have a quick look, followed by a more thorough look followed by a head-butting of my keyboard.
Thanks!
You're welcome ☺
Closed. Questions belong in the Q&A forum, this is the development forum.
Many people are looking for a smartphone with a great cost-benefit and able to meet all our needs. Sincerely? The answer for many would be the Mido. But there are a lot of people who need a more portable smartphone, which can be handled with just one hand without problems. These people decided to bet on the Redmi 4 Prime, which has practically the same characteristics and very similar parts. However, its development was not as great as its bigger brother, and recently one of the top developers abandoned the device, leaving a lack of content. So, I come to you, to that you kindly port some ROMs from the very similar brother to our smartphone. I think we will give you all the attention you deserve, because only those who do not have something know the true importance of things.

+1 , would love to see some of the greatest developers on Mido working on the Redmi 4 Prime !
+1
That would be a relief for thousands of Redmi4 Primes and their owners!!
Really?u came here to request redmi note 4 developers to port rom for redmi 4 prime, with ur funny reason of one hand usability.Sry but developers of redmi note 4 not only work for its roms but also updating it frequently and now with android o's arrival do u really expect anyone to help u out?.The only people who can help you all are redmi 4 prime user themselves
You should be able to easily port Mido ROM's as it's same SoC, weird that nobody has tried it.
+1.
How many threads like this we will see in Redmi Note 4 section?
I can understand ask for help to fix some bug but not request to port whole rom to different device. If you think that is easy because they are "similar", then port by your own rom from Mido to your device.
I think it's not a real request that just somebody build roms for the RM4P.
Problem is that the RM4P wont be supported very good in future because xiaomi just pulled it from the market (nougat update is not shure)
I think it would be very very useful to get a clear view on which source parts can be used for both smartphones.
Could result in some very nice sinergy effects. TBH RM4P would gain a lot more out of it... but who knows
I think there is no reason to keep device development separted when the devices are so similar
And TBH #2: I can clearly see where your restrains come from. A lot of xiaomi users are just whining all the time. Its like a bunch of kids (anybody who knows the miui.com forum might know what Im talking about)
But it would be really sad if we would miss the opportunity for sharing/caring for our two devices because of that

Well, we need to have at least a kernel to make a good kernel for use so dev can make at least one rom possible if possible, I know it's difficult to carry a ROM for a smartphone that you do not have, imagine making a ROM without knowing it , I would do it if I had conditions and knowledge about but I do not have, so we are asking for help we want at least an official 100% functional ROM
c'mon dude... what's wrong with those r4p guys that jusk ask for help...
if you can't help them better to be quiet instead of insulting them or asking them to go away...
btw for r4p guys:
I think it will be very hard dude... yes, our device share same SoC (Snapdragon 625)
but I've look into it, we have different display, touch module, camera...
there is other components too like fingerprint, modem, wifi, bluetooth, battery, etc... I'm not sure it's same between r4p and rn4.
You could try to flash one of the kernel or even rom here, but it's very dangerous and I think no one want to take the risk
It'd be great help if any developer can build a stable kernel for markw out of mido. R4p's own kernel source can help with that.
I am also a redmi 4 prime user and would love if there is something that could be done.

we ask for your help since you're a bigger community. and you have like 5 official ROM's, and we have none. if you don't know, our dev @Razziell quit because he hadn't enough money to continue. his sources are good, so if you want to help its not from scratch - we have his sources.
unfortunately r4p community doesn't have many devs(if at all) to do this job.
maybe if one dev from here talk with Razziell or help him , he might convince him to stay.
we really sorry to bother you guys with those threads, but understand our situation

You do not need to talk about things you do not know. I had problems with the hard drive and only some people from the Russian community helped them to solve. For them, I continue to work. The rest can freely use my source, they are completely working.

You have problem with HD? Why didn't say that in R4P forums, you just say that you want to stop developing because you don't have time to do it. Is that whole reson to stop sharing with R4P community ?
C'mon guys!!!
Any good dev out here?? We have a good kernel.
Not fair that Note 4x as more roms and his little brother don't!! <3

Why not fair? Unfair is your stipulation and pretensions. Its simple: more popular device = more devs = more custom roms.
This thread should be closed because if devs will want to help - they will and pretensions like above will not change anything.
I recommend you guys start taking the initiative and learn to build the kernel yourselves.
