Auto brightness question. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I turn auto brightness on it seems to go to the lowest possible setting (usually around 5%)...and I never really see it go above 30-40%. Is this normal?

Put it out on direct sunlight. Did it change brightness?

Mine does the same but I never use auto brightness I wish I knew why though.

Then the sensor is fine. You may wanna use some market apps if you want it to change screen brightness at certain brightness levels of your surroundings.
Edit: and make sure you don't have the sensors covered by your screen protector if you are using one. That could screw up the amount of light the sensors are receiving causing your phone not to respond to changes as I should.

There is still a standard brightness in Display settings. Turn off auto brightness and set brightness manually down. Have not tried any filters.
I have done that i wad looking to reduce auto brightness amount.
I did figure it out. Go to cyanogen settings> display> backlight> custom settings. I'm the grid reduce the amount for the different levels then click save and apply.
*observations:
1) reducing by 2 makes a good difference.
2) to get settings to stick sometimes i had to uncheck use custom settings.
3) reboot to get settings to stick if uncheck didn't work.

Use samurai kernel, normal brightness goes much lower, or, use app called "screen filter"

Change lowest possible brightness level

Even on the lowest setting the screen is brighter than I would like. Is there a way to change the lowest possible brightness setting?

rootdim is also an alternative
I'm assuming that this won't extend battery life?
You can also use night mode app.. It's simple and easy to use..

Visible Notification LED?

I don't know if my nexus is the only one that has this but my led is more noticeable on the bottom? You can see the circle and the dot in the middle which is the led

Screen adjusting?

How do I stop the screen from going dim and dark? I've turned off screen tone and auto brightness but it still Res it slightly.. annoying -_-

So everything to dowith adjusting off... if I restart the phone it willbe bright but then after a while it dims slightly and keeps doing it now and again, how do I keep it at full brightness? Or can I not? The phones at 30% battery and on the warm side if that matters....
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
You can, all you have to do is to disable auto brightness.

If you turned off auto-brightness and screen tone should not dim itself.
I mean when drops to very low % like 5% screen brightness will not be available anymore.
Also make sure you are not using the phone with Power Saving ON! Maybe that's why your screen dim itself.
No none of that is on, it just keeps dimming its self very slightly but noticeably, is this a fault and should I have it replaced?

First maybe you should give it a try with a newer firmware, and after if still does that..you should go and try to replace it

I think it might be because "Adapt Display" is enabled (Settings -> Display -> Screen mode -> Adapt Display).
Try to disable it and see if it still happens.
Yeah that was disabled, its on the newest firmware available :/ done a factory reset and it's seemed to stop.. going to givecit till tomorrow to see if it does it again

In case it happens again, I've also noticed another option that can change the brightness : Settings -> My Device -> Display -> Auto adjust screen tone.
Anyway, glad it's working out for you now, hopefully it'll last
Nope did it again :/ that's off, phoned up my provider and they said its a fault doggerel sending me a replacement tomorrow

Can we dim the menu and back keys?

Hey guys I recently bought the Lux Auto Brightness app which dims your display according to your environment. I would like to dim my hardware keys because when I'm in a pitch black room the keys are still bright......Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Up to my knowledge you can only shorten the duration of the back lit keys or turn them off completely. Settings>Display>Touch key light duration. I have my keys to not lit up at all and i like it.
i dont see that option in display
