Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a video player available playing movies even smoother than bs player does.
VLC ain't the best choice as there are blocks during playback, even the sound is async.
My test files are big buck bunny, gopro hero3 teaser, some mkv samples of movies. All 1080p.
They all run quite smooth with bs player, but sometimes there are hangs irritating me. Zooming in to fill screen works well with 1920*1080 but with 1920*800 it's a mess, because it fills the height than the width.
I got the slimport adapter from amazon. Theoretically it should be able to play 7.2 sound. All I get from 5.1 ac3/dts movies is 2.0 at my av receiver.
What player do you guys use to watch movies on your N4 with full feature support?
cheers

AWSM!
MX player is what i've searched for, even with ffmpeg for dts :good:
Did you get audio passthrough with slimport working? My N4 seems to downmix the ac3/dts channel, so I am not able to decode it with my receiver instead.
vlc player is not bad:>

In terms of quality Plex can't be beaten for streaming video. I can play a 1080p MKV with DTS audio and have it reencoded on-the-fly from my PC to my TF at 5Mbit and it looks awesome (Sound is a bit iffy though). I tried a few other streamers like VLC, Androstream, Qloud etc and they all sucked.
I'm still looking for a player that supports embedded .ass subs. Playing the files directly off a Windows share is not very good either as none of the players can play AC3/DTS in MKV and 1080p is no go. Dice player sort of looked promising but all the videos I tested it with would freeze up after a few seconds.
Video playback is the TF's weakest point IMHO. It's OK if you want to stream stuff though which is why I am looking for something better than Plex.
How did you get Plex to work? I'm on Windows 7 64bit and the media server isn't working right. It sends me to the browser when I try to click on it and then has a connection error.
Hello all, I'd like to use my transformer for some movies and some training video. For the most part, moboplayer is great. WMV however is coming up with static-y audio and cuts in and out. Useless for audio part. I've switched it to softwae decoding already but no luck. Anyone knows of a player that can play wmv fine with audio? If not I guess I'll have to try and convert the videos.
What audio codec is used in the WMV's? I have a dozen or so WMV movies and they play fine in Mobo. You have downloads and installed the codec pack as well?
No need for mobo or other third party player, the google stock player is working very well with wmv, even in 720p.
I have tried the default video player but it cannot play .mkv movies with DTS sound track.
I can see the video part of the movie but so sound can be heard.
Is there a solution to this or do I have to convert my .mkv movies?
Edit: Actually DicePlayer and MX Player can play .mkv movies with DTS sound track.

Shouldn't this be in the Q&A section?
use mx video player , it worked perfect when I played 1080p mkv /w dts video.
Dice Player does this too (and is a better player for the Tab 7.7 overall with better hardware decoding, not much in it though so pick whichever).

Just wondering what makes you think dice has better hardware decoding. I have not tried Dice yet but i have not run into a single problem with mx video player

On my Note and Galaxy Nexus some files don't play smoothly with mx player (they are very watchable, just not perfect like with Dice Player).
Glad to see you here NZ... Haven't try the video part thoroughly... Anyway, MX is still good for me as of now... Thanks for the input about Dice...
You can also try BSPlayer.
I found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vDN-RilC1k
It can also play my AVCHD camera files. (.mts)
One BIG problem is that the player can't play from my ntfs formatted sdxc card.
(Dice+ Mx works)
I have all three installed, but I usually use Dice.
I am having mixed results on my 7.7 - vids with DTS stored on the SD card play nicely when using MX player when the audio stream is set to SW.
However, when the same videos are accessed over the network they are choppy if they play at all. Anyone else experiencing this? I've done some network analysis and the wifi isn't being maxed out or anything.
Maybe I'll start a new thread on this.

@sladey,
There is another thread "wifi connections" that documents some slow streaming prob.
I had to experiment with wifi-g to wifi-n (both 2.4 & 5.0 ghz) to get a steady stream.
No fixed answer at moment as all above settings still hv some intermittent stutter.
Try wifi-g and slowly move up speed.
Cheers

What version Exactly?
MX Video Player v1.6f. You'll have to google for the apk as it's an old version that supported DTS software decoding prior to it being pulled.
yeah I tried them and they aren't supported on jellybean so I got diceplayer and used the special codec file and I can playback my 15GB .mkv's with DTS with no problem even running the cpu at 300mhz on my note 2 it plays back flawlessly on my 64gb ntfs microsd card. So it's DicePlayer that does it for JellyBean.
I appreciate your help though.
Hi all,
I'm looking to play 720p mkv hi10p videos with embedded subtitles on my Nexus 7. I'll probably want to be doing this by streaming it off a computer or accessing a Samba share.
Does anyone know if this is possible?. Trying to toss up my purchase with the knowledge that its easy / do-able to watch tv shows, movies and things like anime.
Cheers!
I'm just downloading vPlayer to see how it works with my Serviio server. I'll let you know how it goes.
the latest beta VLC player worked for me, was having abit hit or miss with mxvideo player but VLC just played everything i threw at it off my western digital tv live hub.
I tested a 720p hi10p video yesterday using MX Player Pro, no streaming over air.
A couple of frame drops, cannot handle panning scenes very well.
Styled subtitles however look ace, I haven't bothered to check out advanced typesetting though.
Have been exploring the ability on my phone with ES explorer and different media players. 8 bit 720p mkvs work perfectly. 10 bit just falls about for me though on a GNEX with just about every player. Obviously there is a difference in processing power though.
Keen to know if anyone gets it working / how (even if its a solution like PLEX).
hello xda!
i am having a hard time streaming 720p .mkv rip video to my nexus from a seagate goflex satellite mobile hard drive. i was able to install samba on the drive. i use es file explore to view and mx player with dts codec to play the video. only problem is i cant get the hardware decoder to work and the video is choppy with the software decoder. i get the error "cannot play this view with h/w+ decoder" and when i use the normal hardware decoder i get a grey screen. I dont think this is a bandwidth issue because this thing says it can stream 3 hd movies at once, i could be wrong wouldnt be the first time. im thinking i dont have something configured correctly on my nexus but i have no idea what to look for. any help on this would be amazing
H/w+ doesn't work on the nexus 10. You need to use the regular h/w decoder. Alternatively, try bs player.
Will MX player play the video when the hard drive is plugged into the nexus 10 with an otg cable? If it doesn't, then it is probably a problem with the mkv file. You may need to trans code it to mp4 with handbrake.
I can wirelessly play transcoded 1080p mp4 files easily with my hacked go flex satellite. (But not ripped mkv files from my bluray discs.)
