im running Dark knight ICS (4.0.4 ) comming from stock 2.3.6
they told me had to flash jvt modem for best signal etc in my region ( netherlands )
just download this and put on sd and flash via cwm all done ?
if you need none ics/cm7

go to samsung->i9000->modem(for samsung based rom) or ics modems (depends on what you need)
be sure to flash modem which is appropriate to your type of rom

Rename the file from the BootLoader "x8.sin" to "loader.sin." Make sure you have spelled correctly. Then copy it to the folder where you put the Firmware Kernel X8 + E15a and REPLACE the file "loader.sin" above.

Your question, which doesn't make sense at all, teaches me that it would be wise for you to first read some more before moving forward with doing what you're planning to do.
Williams is the name of a kernel.
Img is the file type of any kernel.

Both are fine really. Williams is slightly better for battery consumption.

There's no best, it depends on what use you have.
If you don't know what the differences are between the two, the it is better to keep the stock one (boot.img from zip). It is good enough for normal use.
