Samsung Focus and straight talk help - Focus General

I am very sorry for this burnt out topic, but I am in need of some assistance.
Basically I bought a Focus, and I am having trouble with marketplace, downloading apps, and other things.
I activated it, and can make calls, get on the internet, etc. I created a windows live ID, and for some reason when I go to market place it just says "no results" under everything I try to click. Basically, apps, games, and everything else is just blank.
I set up my email fine, facebook, outlook, and it all works, but for some reason none of my windows options seem to work.
Is there something else I need to do to get this stuff working?
The phone is not unlocked either. I went to "windowbreakme", but it says I cannot download ".js files" when I click the download link to unlock it.
Thanks for any help.

Also, I have an update available, but not sure how to download it. There is no option to download it, and it says to plug into computer, but I have tried two computers now, and it doesn't get recognized. Like I never plugged anything in. It beeps that its charging, but no sync, pop up, nothing.

I would suggest you try resetting the phone and then do the setup over a wifi instead of cellular data. Once you get the updates and re-connect your live account then make sure you setup the APN proxy for StraightTalk.

No. No. No. Do not use the proxy under the APN settings. Just the att.mvno. nothing else.

you may need to install samsung usb drivers (google it) for your pc to recognise phone in zune.
All is done thru zune.
Get WP7Tools in order to access a marketplace, there are some specialized apps on here to do this.
One is called Market Select.
If you can get your phone windowbroken on that web page (view in mobile mode) you can use Multiple Xap Installer v1.1 to
get unlocked apps onto your phone.

No, again this is incorrect information. Please do not post in threads if you are not 100% certain the advice you are giving is correct as it will just cause more confusion. Or if you are unsure about your advice please include that in your post. That said, your eagerness to help is always welcome.

M5000 Activesync.... syncing favourites

Hi,
I am having trouble syncing Mobile favourites even when I click them as "Save Offline" in Internet explorer.
It seems as though it always wants to load the page from the internet on my M5000.
I tried to put it in flight mode so it wouldnt have connection and then I tried it but it failed....
any ideas what im doing wrong... it should be fairly straightforward as I have clicked the "offline" option in explorer on the pc
please help!!!!
A.
I know its been a while but I still cant get this working.
Can someone please help? It still tries to load the online version.
I have followed every step by step guide I have found but it still wont load the offline content!
Driving me nuts....
Please help!
Thanks,
Synchronizing mobile favorities works fine for me - however I have no experience in saving them as 'offline' with IE.
im notsure on the cure but have you tryed using SPB plus V3.0 because you can save offline content from the phones IE directly i think, its one of the opions, im sure when you sync with your PC it will only copy the offline link and not the content so the phone trys to connect to update its info.
im not sure if this is what you were looking for but its a start
Try turning off the "Available offline" option.
What that does is: while the Pc is ONLINE the page will be updated, then when you go offline the most up to date version of the page is there to view.
What I think is happening is that when the link is passed to the M5K, there is no history of what the page is, so PIE is going looking for it, so it can start storing a copy of it.
ok thanks I will try that this weekend.
i had problems when first syncing favorites, found out it was cos of a
\\servername\sharename shortcut that was in my favorites folder, AS cant sync them which is a shame.

Mobile Skype

Can somebody please tell me if they have managed to load Skype mobile on to their Wizard/Vario, how they did it ? I thought that it was going to be easy but my Vario keeps coming up 'unsuccessful.' Thanks.
Yes, I have loaded Skype 2.0 on my MDA and use it quite regularly. I normally use WIFI for connection and it works pretty well, even compared to my computer.
Just go to the download section at skype.com and download the pocket pc version. Install it just like any other software.
Thanks..managed to get it on to my storage card...now to get it to show up in the program list.
However, would appreciate further advice...when I logged in on the PDA, I was expecting to see the full list of contacts that I have on my Skype home PC, but all I have is the original one or two that I put in. Is there a way to transfer the lot over to my PDA...or is it a simple reset, or the next time I log in it will be updated. Likewise the other way round...when on the road and I key a contact in, will it 'sync' to the PC automatically ? Thanks, Mike.
I've been using Skype for ages. From what I remember, it should update on your next login. I have all my contacts, and they sync nicely between PDA and PC.
here's how i got it to work:

Japan - Mixi Registration

This isn't really HD2 specific but, it's the phone that I'm using so I'm putting the thread here.
I'm trying to register on Mixi. The process starts with registering and confirming a "PC" e-mail (In my case, a g-mail account). Then, filling out personal particulars etc. etc. Finally, they ask you to put in your Japanese e-mail/phone-mail/MMS-mail account to which they send a confirmation message. I get this with no problems (many thanks again to BeeGee for helping this be possible) but, when I click the link in the message I get an error message saying there was a problem with a link to the tune of "use this link if you're on a PC".
I suspect that the problem is that the phone connects to the link like a PC rather than a Japanese phone. So the site thinks that the phone is a PC.
Now, without this final step, I can't actually complete the registration process. I have heard of the .edu work-around and will resort to that if all else fails. But having a working phone-mail address I would like to be able to use that instead.

It might be that it is expected that the link is opened in one of the strange Softbank phone browsers. The type they have on their cheap phones.
What you can try is to check the settings of your browser and set it to mobile view.
This can be done in Opera under menu/settings/display.
In Internet Explorer you go to menu/Tools/Options/Other and select Mobile Device.
Third solution, put your SIM card into a Softbank phone (not WMobile), get the confirmation email there, click on the link and it will connect thru the phones browser.
Thanks for that!
Switching to mobile view didn't work in Opera or IE.
I really should have thought of that last option myself
Thanks again BeeGee!
excuse me,,
can you help me too ?

Can't Sync my Samsung focus

I am having a problem with the Sync relationship when I plug my WP7 into the Zune PC software. The Sync Relationship is set to Guest, I would like to change this to being a linked device to do wireless syncing ect. I have try going through the “Change Sync Relationship” steps a number of times but it always stays on Guest. I have also try renaming the device and using the “forget this phone” but neither have worked.
I also try to reset my phone and reinstall my software. Everything I try does not work. Am i the only person who is having this problem
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Re-Connect
I remember when I first connected my Focus to my PC, the Zune software told me that the association wasn't completed and that I had to disconnect/reconnect my Zune from the PC. Once I did that, everything seemed fine. Did you experience/try that?
D
didn't work
I just won't let me sync. it tell me to change my relationship from guest but when I try to do that it just goes back to the sync screen and tells me to do it again.

I think what you need to do is set up your Zune account...when you open Zune on the top right by the close X there is a a user profile that says sign in..if you have not created one do that...everything else should automatically configure once you log in and plug in your device.
Also make sure you have your phone fully set up with all your accounts on your phone such as when you wipe your device you provide a windows live email account is hotmail, MSN, yahoo. Keep that consistent with your Zune account.
My samsung focus wont sync to my computer or the zune software. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the zune software but all my phone does when i plug it in is search for the drivers. once it installs the drivers it tells me to resart. when i restart my computer and plug the phone back in it starts to search for the drivers again. i tried this all day yesterday but nothing worked?? not sue what to do now
same problem,
I have having a similar issue.
Does any one have a fix? I spent hours on the phone with tech support and no luck.
Nobody has anything
Need more info.

The vast majority of us are not having this issue. If you can answer these questions, maybe one of us can help.
What are you trying to sync? Contacts, photos, apps, calendar?
What OS are you using on your PC?
What version of Zune software are you using?
Do you sync other devices with your PC?
Do you, or do you not, have a Windows Live ID set up as your main account on the phone?
Found the fix
here is the solution, I tried it and it WORKED perfectly: No more "guest" in Zune on my laptop!!!
I've been trying to sort out the same problem with my Samsung Focus for about 4 hours.
None of the things about registry settings or Zune database files fixed my issue. I even did a hard reset of my phone to try and get things working (not that big of a deal now that contacts are all pulled from my live account and pictures upload by default). No dice.
But the brief mention of remote drives above lead me to the solution. I do have a network drive, but it was connected just fine, so I didn't think anything of it.
But then I remembered that I used to have another hard drive in this machine way back when I first setup the Zune software, and I set my Pictures in the Zune software to come off that drive. It was V:\images, but without that hard drive in my computer now, there is no V: drive. The problem is that the Zune software seems to break in a rather unpredictable way when one of the paths for your collection libraries isn't valid. The larger problem is that from the Settings->Software->Collection screen, there's actually no indication that there are any problems. It's a silent failure occuring somewhere in the Zune software that leads to this nasty behavior of being stuck in Guest mode. Worse is that if you try to remove the offending entry, but don't add a new one, and just click OK back through the windows without looking too closely, the Zune software doesn't make any changes. If you don't provide a valid path to replace the invalid one that it had, it just leaves things as they were before you removed the bad entry.
So, I removed the entry that I knew was bad (even though the Zune software wasn't complaining about it), and added a new entry that I knew was good. I clicked OK back out through the windows, then clicked on that "change sync relationship" button again, and followed the steps, and BAM! No more guest relationship!
Just to test it out (because I am a tester after all) I "forgot" the device in the software, messed up my library locations again with a temporary mapped network drive, and replicated the bad behavior and the fix again.
Interesting

I can't believe this wasn't discovered/fixed after uninstalling and reinstalling the Zune software. The set up dialogue really should prompt you to set up these libraries...
I had many folders that no longer exist in my libraries when I set up my Focus and didn't have an issue. I should probably clean them up, though.
Yeah i know its pretty annoying.
Problem still exists with Focus S - fix worked perfectly
same problem syncing my new Focus S. Checked folders and default Podcast folder didn't exist. Changed and problem solved !

I've got ChevronWP7-unlocked HD2 with HD7 registry hack.
Everything works OK, but about every 20-40 minutes jailbreak fails and all installed applications stop working. I've got an Live account, got activation code from Microsoft.
Tried to find out the reason why the phone checks apps: removed Live account from the phone settings etc. But still no luck.
The problem is that checks are periodically and they do my WP7 unusable, because it is impossible to use any third-party software for more than 30-40 minutes. Found some posts in the topics with a similar problems, but no solution.
Is it possible to find out, when the checks are going on (on the phone via internet, or on zune sync or any other moment) and to prevent the microsoft's ChevronWP7 blocking?
I am very appreciated for any replies, because I liked WP7, but this thing make it totally unusable!!
Thank you very much!
I belive that you are losing the chevron unlock when you sync your phone with zune...that happens to everyone...and you have to re-unlock

Once you have it unlocked with Chevron7 then go to this post (Thanks to Xboxmod) to keep it unlocked without using chev7
See his post No 17 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907169&page=2
It works for me.
Russ
