which rom/kernel gives better battery life? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, just my nexus 4 and rooted it straight away
currently using cm10 with franco kernel.
so far so good but i would like to know which rom & kernel combo provide the best battery life? i am not a heavy gamer so cpu/gpu intensive tasks are not essential to me.
any advice would be great

you have the franco kernel updater app?
use betterbatterystats (google for it.. you can find it for free on XDA) and ensure no wakelocks. ensure your phone is properly deep sleeping
google maps -> settings -> location -> disable automatic reporting and the other checked mark (update your location)
news & weather app -> settings -> refresh interval (set it to once a day or manually.. depending on how often you use it)

Undervolted Kernels

What kernels are currently out designed for battery life?
Bump.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
There aren't any stable UV kernels out there yet. Morfic has an experimental one which I had great success withbut it seems I was in the vast minority. Netarchys kernels tend to get slightly better battery life than morfics but they both get great battery life considering. I don't really are the need for a UV kernel to be honest. I get through about 16 to 18 hours on a charge easy every day and my phone is rarely below 30% when I plug it in at might.

16-18???
Am I doing something wrong? I get 12 hrs barely with moderate usage running stock rom. How in the world are u getting 18?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Im getting 16 to 18 hours on stock too with I would say moderate use. About 2 hours of gaming a day with 20ish texts through gvoice and maybe an hour on the phone. My phone is also my watch so I'm always pulling it out and checking the time. Some web browsing when finding out things for customers.
I'm so satisfied I haven't even rooted it yet. Ill probably do it when cm7 hits a stable or release candidate stage. I had my fill of nightlies on my HeroC.

Any web browsing? I do 30mins phone calls. 1hr games. 30 min apps ie Facebook and xda. And texting ~100-200 all in one day and I can only get about 10-12 hrs.
Currently using netarchy bfs kernel setting at 1 ghz no profiles.

That is the kernel I was thinking about trying next, I would like to go to about 1.3 with about 600 screen off setCPU. I usually run at minimum brightness except it switches to auto in handcent, Facebook, browser, etc. Also auto sync is only on 7 min every 3 hours, my other Widgets refresh a lot quicker (LPP Widgets)
Does that kernel have the voodoo sound, I am really loving that right now?

Not massive on bechmarks and a big fan of Franco.
I cant tell any day to day difference in the performance between any of the kernels currently out however Matrix is giving me more batter life, (more screen on time) than the others.

However, if you put any trust in Quadrant scores you could use them to prove that dancing naked for 5 minutes in your garden affects device performance

Yes sir, franco also uses stock rom.
I have gotten the best battery from matr1x compared to Franco. I got 2 1/2 hr on stock, 3 hr 40 min on Franco and 4hr 40 min on Matr1x I'm still running stock otherwise but I think I'm gonna try experimenting with Roms tonight. Any suggestions I want to stay as close to a stock look as possible but I'm willing to bend for battery.

I'm craving better battery life. Help!

Currently on stock ROM running the matrix kernel. I can't get more than 2.5hrs of screen on time which I think is pathetic. With my galaxy note 2 I can get 5-6hrs screen on time with same usage.
Any other kernel I should try to improve battery life? I see some people here getting over 4hrs screen on time and I don't see how it's possible on this phone.
Pretty good battery life with Franco kernel. What's your screen brightness and mind if you post a screenshot of your Battery in Settings?

Best ROM/tweak for better battery life on Nexus 4

Does anyone know a stable ROM that can significant increase the battery life on the Nexus 4? Right now I'm stock, and battery life has been terrible and doesn't even last me through the day. It is also very slow to charge on the included charger, but seems to charge faster on a Kindle Fire 1.8A I have.
Thanks!

The custom kernels in the dev section offer decent battery life.
I'm a wifi user mostly and I get @5.5 to 6 hours screen on time with lite gaming and browsing (this site all day lol).. i do Undervolt by a total of 150mV too... I recomend Harsh's kernel personally.
Underclocking the CPU is not worth it imo because it just makes other cores go online quicker when more power is needed... though it may help a small bit.
other usual tips..
use low screen brightness
turn off google now
turn off gps location
only sync stuff you really use, turn other syncs off (i have just gmail, contacts, browser synced)
turn off nfc if not using
make sure to use the open recent apps button and swipe away all apps when putting the phone down for a while (this really helps with stock kernel because of the wakelocks)
edit.. also after a week or so of charges the battery gets better.

It can be better. Download Trickster Mod and Unvervolt and reduce CPU frecuency. There are a lot of good threads with the optimal settings for that app.

There are a lot of factors that can affect the longevity of the phone's daily battery life. Apps that are constantly running in the background will drain your juice. Lowering down the brightness will lower the power consumption greatly. Disabling location services should help. If you're in an area with bad service, your phone will use more power to stay connected to the nearest tower. Tweak you kernel settings or try a different kernel can help.
for a fairly default installation with i would say 10 hours with 2 hours of screen time is normal.
But there are some good advices in this thread to optimize it a little more
