If I understand right, the official device name for the Nexus 10 is "mantaray", but I don't think I've seen any developer ever refer to it as such, but instead just "manta". Any reason why?
I guess it really doesn't make a difference, but I can't think of any other device that had it's official name shortened.
It's an extra syllable, and we're all lazy?

Bump for more curiosity
I think that "manta" refers to the hardware, and "mantaray" refers to the software Google provides.
This would be similar to how "mako" refers to the Nexus 4 hardware, but "occam" refers to the Nexus 4 software.

Indeed. "mantaray" is the rom/branch name.
We all call it manta though.

It has been proven, "facetious" and "satire" don't work on public forums.
Forums only activate the lowest 10 percent of available brain cells.
Only thing lower would be Yahoo news report reader comments.

The Question is Do you need Root Today.\?
You do not have to ask permission to root or not..With this being a nexus and knowing you made backups(well even if you did not) you can very easily go back to Stock or near stock.
I think google is going to skip the 42 update . They are may be afraid someone will have a heart attack caused by over excitment for the push of the file.. They will delay it to a less enthusiastic time...
I can't help but think that we can somehow get this:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6499/...ix-slimport-microusb-to-hdmi-and-vga-adapters
to work with our Nexus 7....
Anyone try this or have any idea what we will have to do to make it work?
It's a no go I'm afraid. Nexus 7 simply doesn't have the hardware in order to make it work, been discussed on here a few times.

Have you tried it? I don't have a clue what hardware you are talking about, the operating system handles secondary displays, not the hardware. The Nexus 7 has OTG support which makes me think this could very well work.

Okay, I see that it does not work, but no one has really confirmed that there is no way of doing it. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to get video out on the Nexus 7, but right now it seems like it's not gonna work.

Can anyone verify anything about this? Nothing in the US so far but I assume that's because if it's really legit they want to test on a smaller market before upsetting more users if something goes wrong.

reported is a strong word. they are just reposting the same information over and over. nothing new. even if it is a test build it could have useful information and we need someone to do a system dump or something.

One of the links in one of the other threads on this that I read reported that 1000 test units were built in a factory in Brazil with 4.2.2 as they will soon be making the Nexus 4's there. They only other reported device was 1 in Malaysia and it was suspected to be a prototype as it was a 16GB model and only 8 GB models were sold there.

Mako is a fish. All the nexus devices are called according to some kind of fish.

I think mako is just referring to the shark. It's just the name that this phone got. Just like the device that is manta (ray) and so forth.

It's a codename used by Google. Like all devices, prior to official release, they are given 'codenames' (nicknames). The actual name is thought out shortly before the product is publicly available.
