Hello,
I'm a noob to all of this, currently running CM7.2 nightly on a green lens MB525.
I have tried to boot cm9 and 10 using multiboot, but failed. I assume this has something to do with the kernel?
I thought a custom kernel was not possible but has this really changed? I'd like to try some of the more experimental
roms, but especially, I'd like to enable USB OTG, which the omap chip should have. A robotics project
of mine could benefit from this greatly.
Is any of this really even possible, There are lots of documentation, but either it's out of date, or I'm just confused.
Thanks,

Hey,
custom kernels are possible, but at this time not in CM7.
Try the JellyX kernel for OTG.
Looks like what I'd like to use. Just to make sure: I don't think the kernel can be loaded from the sd card?
I have never been able to boot any of the new roms which I assume require a new kernel to run from the sd-card using multiboot 0.8. The only roms I have successfully run from sd are 7.2 and older. using 2nd system, i think 2nd init uses the internal storage?
I'm a little careful not to install a new kernel in my main system in case I'll brick it.

Not quite. I have no experience with OTG. I assumed (after the appropriate kernel modules were loaded) it only needed to be powered externally to make it act as a host, but apparently that might not be the case and an OTG cable needs to be purchased. But apparently it should work. Software wise I'll be using libusb which apparently is ported. Would like to hear if anyone has some experience with defy + otg.

Hi all.
My n4 is now bursting at the seams with ROMs. I desperately need to move them to my usb disk. I used to do this using ziddey/franko OTG kernel.I have now got used to using much faster, non otg kernels like trinity & matrix, unfortunately these at time of writing dont offer otg and i am no way capable of creating my own.
Anyine know of any other fast otg kernels?
I would just keep swapping between ziddey and other kernels but from what i understand franko one does something funky to the ram disk which would have a negative affect when other kernel is flashed back over the top.
Please help a noob : )
Thanks guys : )
Matr1x kernel now has OTG support. Head over to the Original Development you should see it. It's developed by Mathkid

Thanks, I'm a massive fan of matr1x and its what I'm holding out for re otg.
Otg not currently working in latest kernel. I know math kid is working on it as we've spoken about it.
Tbh is the kernel I want to continue using so wish math kid all the luck : )
Hallo,
i just tried to flash Franco Kernel v191 to enable USB-OTG on my Nexus 4.
But now i can only boot into CWM Recovery.
When i boot normally, the Screen of my Phone stays black after i see the Google-Logo.
I'm not sure if i flashed the right Version (Do i need JWR or JSS?).
I also flashed only the *.img-File, not the .zip, which was obviously wrong.
How can i flash the right Kernel (or maybe the stock one first) ?
Im using the Nexus Toolkit.
Help me please.

stop using the nexus toolkits. flash via recovery if a zip, or via fastboot if an img file.
I did flash the Kernel directly via Clockwork Recovery.
Which Version do i have to flash?
I manged to reinstall Cyanogenmod now.
But the ADB-Bridge to the PC doesnt seem to work anymore :/
I enabled USB-Debugging and PTP, but the pc doesnt recognize my phone.
Any Ideas how i can fix that?

oh, youre running cm, thats why. cm changed its source from aosp to qualcomm, so custom kernels are now a no go since the custom kernels are aosp based. the kernels that do boot up on cm, mess up the colors, and franco kernel has issues booting cm. its actually not franco kernels fault, its cm that messed it up for our community(unless you are using cm based kernels).

You can get your colors working properly again just copy and paste system/lib/liboverlay.so from non CAF ROM to CM

yes, for now. but that doesn't help the issue here of franco not booting on the newer cm.

i used to be the biggest cm fanboy back in the day(cm3.1-cm7). many even thoughti was part of cm for a bit(including people who were part of cm). but they had an incident with supercurio(creator of voodoo) that began cm's decline to now, so its been 2+ years since i last ran cm.

Hi guys, happy new year!
So, i'm testing the rom "Nexus 5 Experience (Kitkat 4.4.2)" and everything seems ok, i'm testing the version CAF Kernel. now i'm tryin install new kernels on this rom, but at every kernel I install i get the same error, after instal any kernel, I turn on my N4 and the screen seems very strange, colors flashing, sometimes when i start a game (or anything that forces the gpu) the screen is filled by one or two colors, but the touch is still working, is just a screen or gpu (i dont know) error.
I tryed to take some printscreens, but when i will check this on my pc, everything is ok, like if theres no error.
When i flash the rom again, everything works normally.
what i'm doing wrong ? I thought to change kernel is only flash him, is it wrong ?
i'm newbie, got my n4 yesterday but i have some experience in my old xperia..
sorry the bad english, im br
Thanks guys!!

I can't say what you did wrong, maybe you got the wrong version since many make 2 versions of their kernel, one for AOSP and one for CM.
I don't run CM ROM's so I don't know which kernels are out there. HellsCore is also another kernel to consider, I believe there are CM versions of it as well.

yes, i'll try HellsCore.
thanks for the help, i appreciate it!
excuse me, is there a patch for the stock kernel to use with externally powered OTG?
I have not understood well the description in the various post.
Thank you and sorry for my bad english.
no answer??
Cant' say i've ever seen one for stock kernel. Maybe you could ask and see if ziddey would work on one.

I use this one, very stable and great on battery.
There's also hellsgod kernel, hellscore
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586524
This one is also very very good.
Do note you need a proper Y cable, and then an app that can mount. I've found stickmount to not work as well or often as Paragon NTFS but give each one a try and see for your use. Both available through the playstore.

Grouper "fast charge"
dskies said:
Guys..please stop immediately to ask to enable fast-charging on grouper.
1: batteries are replaceable and taking the back off a grouper takes me about 30 seconds (they just clip in)
2: It's not just USB. When on a generic AC charger it's _still_ limited to 500mA
which leads to:
3: If left charging without shutting the thing down, @ 500mA in, it takes upwards of 20 hours to get to fully charged and if playing a game such as minon rush (or using GPS + torque in the car) there's a net _discharge_ which eventually results in a flat battery and the device shutting down.
It's not about "fast charging" the battery. It's about supplying enough current to keep the device running for extended periods without flattening the battery.

@franciscofranco Is this kernel not compatible with CM11 on nexus 7 (2012) ? I am using FKU and when i click on r80 install it throws a warning that the kernel may not be compatible as i am using cyanogenMod ROM. can you please let me ?
Loved it on OnePlus one and want to install it on nexus 7...
Caf roms only apply to qualcomm chips, the tegra3 is not one.

@franciscofranco, can we expect f2fs-all support soon, and perhaps color profiles? Thanks!
Hi bro,
Are U working on Nexus 7 Grouper for FK Lollipop 5.0? We're quite desperate knowing this brand new ROM is not actually supporting external/USB DAC. Being promised by Google to natively support the features, we felt rather disappointed. I suspect there is something wrong with the kernel which is rather old.
Should you have time to play with it please do it, a little challenge for you that will bring joys to us around the globe
Thanks
I'm also hoping for usb DAC support to be fixed in lollipop. I'm about to the point where I need to either get tutoring in the finer points of github+ubuntu or buy the N7 2013, which does seem to have DAC support enabled. Anyone willing to teach? The commits for kitkat were present in kangaroo kernel, and timurs kernel. Not sure about changes for lollipop. Hopefully some genius will figure it out in the not too distant future, please?
Android 5.0.2
Hey,
I just installed the franco.kernel updater but it says 'unsupported device'. I have a n7 2012 with android 5.0.2. Can someone help?
Hi all, there is a possibility to download a stable version for CM 10.0?
Why does Franko Kernel for nexus 7 not have the RAW I/o scheduler?
it work , i tried on my nexus 7 5.1.
it work , i tried on my nexus 7 5.1.
r82 also works here with 5.1.1. No issues observed.
Franco r82 kernel vs optipop doesn't work
Just wanted to ask would it be possible for Franco to fix r82 and simply make it work with optipop? For now r82 is advertised as f2fs support and 5.1.1 yet no chance of flashing it on optipop everytime I do that I get system UI doesn't respond or just black screen after booting up.
I'm talking about nexus 2012
Thanks
Frank doesn't allow overclocks, doesn't believe in fast charge like its the toothfairy or something?
I would strongly reccomend another kernel but there are only so many options left. The 2012 tablet is getting old and no one devs for it really anymore.
I used to use only franks kernels but the guy is abrasive and due to leaving out crucial features I can't ever again reccomend his kernels.
Also while it says f2fs support on the box, its not what comes in the tin. As the above user mentioned it bootloops optipop (only ROM left worth running IMO)

What other f2fs kernel for optipop would you recommend? I'm atm on uber and it's good kernel fast and all no freezing at all but comparing to Franco battery last shorter time not really a big deal plus Franco offer more options to manage kernel than uber for example tcp and I/O
Yeah but you still can't use fast charge and he literally belittled people asking for him at add that and overclocking. I can't even remember what I flashed I would have to go and check the tablet - if I flashed anything at all. F2fs (especially f2fs all) kernels for grouper are sparse, and those that exist don't include everything that people think they "should".

Found solution installed m-kernel and got everything I wanted
Franco kernel and cm12.1
Hi this is my first post on the forums
I flashed the version modified for cm12.1 on my nexus 7.
Details
Nexus 7 2012 3g+wifi
rooted
running cm12.1
TWRP recovery
So I flashed it and it took over 8 minutes to boot up.When it finaly booted up i got a message saying I have low memory.I checked my memory and I have 12 gigs and some change available. Also battery is draining even when charging! I know this isnt official or anything just thaught Id post my results.Im gonna carry on using my tab with this kernel for a while to see if I can sort it out.
I got tired of the long boots so I used TWRP to load a backup.Tab is back to normal now.Pity this doesnt work. When I was using Paranoid I had Franco kernel and it was great.
