N10 just arrived today.... - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Should I, or should I not, take the update? And why?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium

From what I've read throughout the forums, the update has given many users more issues.

Go ahead. I don't see much of a difference between factory 4.2 and 4.2.1. They both seem to have the same bugs and freezing issues that pop up from time to time.

Well, 50/50 it is then. Update it is.

I ended up just flashing CyanogenMod 10.1 on there anyway. It's based on 4.2.1, but I haven't had any issues with it. Its been highly stable, unless I'm using Chrome, then it freezes on me about twice a day requiring a reboot. I'm using the AOSP browser, and everytheverything is awesome. Even when I was running stock 4.2.1, I didn't have many issues with the OS. I'm highly pleased with the Nexus 10. My first tablet, but well worth it.

Perhaps the problem is with ota build. Most here are rooted with custom rom. Are you by chance running a custom rom or the stock one that was sent over the air?

phone is default updated OTA
Then perhaps you can root and install a custom rom. It seems to me when I download a custom rom ota, its more likely to be corrupt. If its stock you want, it's available here. Better yet you might try Pete's Bugless Beast- stock with some additional enhancements. That way you get the stock a stock experience ... but better

It was the other way round for me, I've only had the rebooting issue on my 9023 when I was using a couple of different cm roms, and it went away when I went back to stock. Have tried some other non cm roms, but not for long enough to show any effects.
No reboot, fortunately
That's an issue with 2.3.1, just update to 2.3.4 ota and it should be gone

The CM reboots and sod are know bugs for CM and many have reported the problem stems from the flashing alternative kernel. I've been on GLADOS CFS @ 1.4 for several days now and have had absolutely no problems.

I've never had any random reboots on my NS4G...nor have I even heard of this being an issue with the NS line, at all. I've been flashing new roms/kernels like crazy for the last 3 months I've been using this phone...the longets I think I've gone without a single flash is probably 4 days....and I've never had a single hardware issue of any kind These phones seem really rock-solid to me!!
They've turned a Samsung hater into a Samsung fan overnight!!! I'd buy a GN in a heartbeat if I hadn't JUST bought my NS4G lol

Do you have the 8 or 16 GB? Apparently the 16 has issues when it's nearly full. I'd say wipe the caches and see if it gets better. Are you stock or running a custom rom? Stock or custom kernel?

I've never used any nexus I own without rooting
And AFAIK, rooting doesn't change the speed of the device, just gives you root powers to alter something, that MAY alter the speed!

It's one of the older updates i guess so the battery life should ideally be an issue and a lot worse than 4.1.1.

The 4.1.2 BTU update for the UK is XXDMB2 , its PDA is N7100XXDMB2, this makes it a bit behind XXDMB4.

I would. You might get lower battery life for a while, but this has the SDS fix in it as far as I know, and I'd MUCH rather be protected from my device turning into a paperweight than just running low on juice...
And sure, I could use a custom ROM, but I happen to like the stock ones. Serves all my needs perfectly.

Some guys attribute the increased battery use to the media scanner which runs randomly and drains the battery life
Also i believe that the screen brightness at max setting had been increased to like 300% of what it was in 4.1.1

The 4.1.1 ROM's have a critical bug that can cause your device to randomly just die, for no apparent reason, and it's not fixable once it happens. You'd have to return it to Samsung. This is the SDS bug, Sudden Death Syndrome.
The 4.1.2 ROM's have a fix for this, as do pretty much all the custom ROM's as well.
Personally, I'd much rather have reduced battery life and relief from the worry that my device could just randomly die.
Can you please post the modem version to this update.

Thanks for the info, i'm certain that is what happened to my phone. I was on 4.1.1 stock uk rom. Its been fixed by samsung now, just waiting for it to be sent back, they said they replaced system board. Be interesting to see if they have updated to 4.1.2 for me.

Is it worth updating Nexus 4?

Hi guys, I just bought my nexus 4. I'm really hesitant in updating because I also own a nexus 7 and when I updated that, my tablet was just flawed from left to right so I ended up downgrading it back to 4.1.2. Also, I hear that there is a way to enable LTE, but that with the new update the LTE function goes away? I would really appreciate to hear you guys' opinions. Thanks!

I updated my Gnex and my Nexus 7 but i won't update my Nexus 4, i wanna keep my lte connection, it's up to you, if you don't need lte go ahead and update.

Even if you do update to the latest you can still flash a different radio which will give you the option to use lte.
Oh ok just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't lose the LTE option. Does the new update have any flaws? Or are u happy with the new update and what are the differences between 4.2.1 and 4.2.2?

I think a lot of us are on the 4.2.2 update. Those who didn't update are of course on 4.2.1 because they want their LTE. I would like to a say a majority of the members are on 4.2.2.
Some folks are still having Bluetooth and WiFi issues. Problems like the difficulty of connecting to their device and the same for WiFi. This is plaguing some users but not all. Just a small percentage. On my end everything is working fine. It's just weird to hear others are having these problems. I never have any issues with my devices. If you want to update to 4.2.2, I strongly suggest you do a super clean install/update.

Oh ok well it's good to hear that there isn't as many problems with the update as there was with the nexus 7. But I am a bit hesitant because I'm on T-Mobile and I hear that they are about to get LTE in my area. I live in Los Angeles.

Lol. I live in NY and I think LTE is available on T-Mobile here as well.
If you want to use LTE, then don't update yet. If 4.2.1 is working fine don't update it.

4.2.2 has been better for battery life, at least for me. You should update it. And for LTE you can flash old radio, but might not work with the latest versions of certain ROMs, so do your research on that. I believe you can just do a nandroid for 4.2.1 (not 100% on this)

Yeah thanks for the advice, and your right about the battery life because I feel that considering that the nexus 4 has a 2100mah battery the battery doesn't last long enough. If I can do a nandroid backup then it would be awesome. I'm pretty new to the nexus 4 scene, so I appreciate everyone's help thus far.

anyone have a link to the 4.2.1 stock ROM. i think my speaker for my phone has gotten lower with the 4.2.2 update and i want to downgrade it.
http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-4/occam/
It's the third one down the list on the "images". Use 7zip to unpack the files and flash away!
EDIT: There is the option to have 4.2.2 with the 33 baseband to retain the LTE, however that has caused problems for people so the only official way to make it work with LTE is to flash 4.2.1 with the 33 base.

is it just me?

okay ive been seeing a lot of bug reports, systemui crashes on 4.3 roms, even on stock 4.3. if this update was so important and everyone says its better why all the bug reports? im honestly thinking of reverting back to 4.2.2. it seemed a lot more stable. just seeing if anyone has the answer to all these damn bugs.
I haven't experienced any bugs using my Nexus 7 with Android 4.3, both on stock and PA. It may seem that many people are experiencing bugs, but there may also be x times more that do not experience them and simply keep their mouth shut.
