Replacement USB Cable - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone bought one? I'm guessing we can just get any old one off ebay?
The official one is too short for me!

I'm already using cables I had lying around from old phones

Go to your local computer store.
Get the longest micro USB cable they have.
Done.

I buy all of my cables from Monoprice. I find that they have really good quality at really good prices.

I want a cable that will fit with cases

Only place I go for cables.
Have 2 of these 10' for my bed (N4 and N7) = http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5459&seq=1&format=2

If you go amazon route there cables are nice. The official cable is short and was going to get 10 foot one but ended up reusing a USB cable extender instead.

How does this work with cases? Is the connector slim enough that it won't interfere with anything?

Any cable should work fine, if it doesn't your case is poorly designed

Not true, the only cable which fits without putting strain on the Micro USB port is the one that came with the phone. I have the Diztronic TPU Case, Poetic Borderline Bumper, and a Clear S-LIne TPU Case.

If you find the cable isn't fitting into your port with the case - then heat up a knife or other sharp object and shave the cable down a piece at a time, most of the rubber surrounding the port is to prevent torque on the port breaking it from the cable, and instead breaking your phones MicroUSB port!
Plenty of mine are shaved down and it works perfectly. Just be careful to not go further back than about half a centimeter from where the port finishes and not too far down.

any docking stations that fit the snap on case?

are there any docks out there that fit the fuze when it has the seidio innocase on?
I was wondering the exact same thing!!!
doesnt look like anybody knows.
I will be interested too. I had a hard time finding out about a pouch that would fit the phone w/ the Innocase. Probably because not too many are using it.
Best regards.
This dock from sedio says it should fit it with the case on.
I'm curious about the fit on this dock, i am mainly interested because it has a slot for an extra battery and was wodering if anyone has any experience with the seidio case and this dock. If anyone has the case and this dock also, I would like their opinion on it also.
I just ordered a couple of very inexpensive docks w/ battery charger from a website and I will post as soon as I get them.
Best regards.
thanks, keep us updated. i know the seidio one works with it but i want one that has a battery charger built in.
I know from personal experience that this one will NOT work with the Seido Innocase installed:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02926&dept_id=039&cat_id=0951
They have 2 other similar ones that I expect won't work either since they are based on the same design.

Could you not take out the adapter in the middle for it? Or is the area around where the phone touches the dock just one whole piece?
Colleagues,
Finally... The 2 cradles I ordered finally arrived. So... does the phone with the Seidio snap on case fit on it? Not right out of the box, but... if you are creative you can use pliers to kind of push the connector on the cradle a little bit forward and it works perfectly. This cradle has the slot for charging a battery as well as a USB cable. It only costs $19.99 with free shipping (no, I don't know the vendor).
Here is the link:

thanks man... im gonna get it.

The part of the cover where the phone sits is all one piece with the mini-usb connector sticking up in the middle. The opening is molded to the shape of a naked touch pro.
I could probably take a dremel tool to it but it would look pretty bad since the whole dock is shiny black.

Case that covers ports that also works with QI charger?

Does one of these exist? I have a cheap TPU S-line case from ebay that I bought when the phone was first released. It works with the QI charger but it does not keep the dust out of the ports.
I bought two cheapies off ebay to test if something a little thicker would work with the QI charger and so far nothing does. Seems that any case that covers ports are thick and may not work with the QI charger.
BTW its the Energizer charger, not the official Google one.
Have you considered just getting a microusb port cover? http://www.moddiy.com/products/modDIY-Micro%2dUSB-Protective-Jack-Cover.html for example

I have but if a case exists that will work then I would like to give that a shot first. I notice the covers for the cases are snug fit so it wont allow dust in at all when a plug may leave room between it and the case. I work in a very dirty environment and would like to keep the phone itself as clean as possible.

custom turbo magnetic wireless charging car dock

so, Ive wanted a magnetic car dock for a while. Airdock makes a nice one. but the airdock 2 is not available. at least last time i checked. So i decided to make one. this has been an on going project for about a month. the first one i made was quite simple. very much like the one on youtube. just 4 magnets placed in a LG charging pad. problem was, the charging would start and stop randomly. I assumed it had to do with the magnet locations. some how it was effecting the charging (considering Qi charging is magnetic)
back to the drawing board! and then project after project lol. I think i must have made 8 docks. all had issues and I was not satisfied. I even made one out of carbon fiber, or an attempt to! didnt turn out well.. then I went a bit out side of the box. so heres what i did
First, i had an extra Turbo battery cover. i plastic dipped that. my theory was plastic dip would work as a release agent for my next step. then I took an old iphone bumper case my wife had and used that as my frame.. alined 4 magnets next to the moto symbol (i put 2 small peaces of metal in that area in side the phone) then i used tap to cover all the gaps the case would have on the phone, and poured in a full tube of plastic weld epoxy. I had no clue what would happen but i was willing to try!
after everything cured it worked really well.. I was able to take the epoxy off the phone cover fairly easly (you can see it pulled off some of the vz and droid writing.. as well as the moto symbol)
now, i have a form that matches the turbo exactly.
the next step was just a mater of sanding and cutting off any of the over pour and any imperfections in the epoxy.
then i put in the wireless charging pad
next, i plastic dipped the front (being rubber it works really well as a non slip surface)
then i warped the outside in some auto chrome trim
and that was that! new charging dock for my car that fits like a glove! because it matches the turbos curves, it auto centers it self. and holds super tight! phone wont move at all... very happy with the out come.. let me know what you guys think! thanks
thats really sweet ill buy one ?
That looks sweet!!!

Would love to see some links to the supplies you used. I've been wanting to make my own magnetic car dock.
Bad ass! I already tried to make a dock, but it doesn't charge, and the magnets don't hold that well. I don't have the patience (or cajones to open up my phone) to try this.

Not really links I could use as everything i got was locally bought. Magnets from ace hardware. Cheap iPhone 4 case. Plastic dip and plastic weld epoxy made by jb weld. Got that stuff at pep boys. Just gotta get creative lol. Oh, and the small metal I put in the phone was from my Wifes ear rings =). Super thin metal. Earrings work great!
Wait... why does it look like it's Qi charging??? Did I miss that step?

Fair enough!
I guess what I really wanted to know was which wireless charging pad you had in there. Just a generic Qi charger?

That was just the first link I found. I got mine for like 20 bucks.
I guess I should add, I cut the back off a cheap car dock and glued it to the back of the wireless charging pad.
Just checking in - any issues with this long term? All sensors working? Does the compass work properly while on the stand?
How much would you say this cost in total? $50?

When the phone back cover was open, did it look like there was enough room to install a metal ring, for use with current magnetic phone holders (Qi chargers)? I have to open the case to replace the battery and figured I might try a magnetic Qi mount as well (easier to rotate from portrait to landscape without a large plastic exo-frame). It's that, or use a thin cover and put the ring between the phone and the accessory cover (I have the ballistic nylon back).

The border acts like a magnet

I might have accidentally magnetized my Nexus 9... Pic will be up soon.

That's cool... Anyways... *sticks every USB I own ever onto the Nexus 9* *sticks OTG cable and charging cable* *sticks a magnet* *sticks a keychain* *sticks a stick*
Its supposed to be like that, so the covers you get for it are held closed, I have a supcase folio that stays closed this way.

I've ran a few neodymium magnets by the N9 and nothing bad happen
I was freaked out when I picked up my N9 off the table and my wife's hair clips was attached. To it.

Lol
It can be a little annoying... I learned that they absolutely will not stack straight because of the magnets, they all offset from the one below by half an inch or so.
Learned this after we got 4 of them in to work for testing/development. I was a little perplexed at first, then I took a back off and saw all the magnets.
Mine could really do with stronger magnets, my official 'magic' cover isn't so 'magic' :s It slides off pretty easily. It's not the cover itself either, it attaches pretty strongly to other ferrous materials so sadly it seems to be the tablet itself that's lacking.

I don't have the official magic cover. I just got the hotcool cheapo one and felt the same way. I just placed two neodymium magnets on the cover thinking i could use it to hold business cards and other important docs while in a pinch. Call it a mind trick since I don't know the property of magnets too well, but it appears the case holds on tighter when I did that.

My Nexus 9 has a magnetic border too.It sticks to parts of my laptop , OTG converter , USB Flash Drive, screws , paper clips and anything metal. I thought it was something with mine but it seems to be normal (but annoying). How can we fix this
Mine is magnetic too
Life is poker, risk being happy
It's magnetic by design. The boarder on the Nexus 9 is magnetic to support how both the Magic Cover and official folio keyboard work with it.

Just got my N6P and need some accessories

Thanks

Agreed.
As for cases it's all personal preference. I like minimal cases so I prefer the Verus one but they need to widen the charging port first. If you like protective bulky ones then the SUPcase Beetle seems pretty good but no one has received one yet.
If you go over to the accessories forum you'll find amazing reviews of the intelliarmor due to their superb customer service.
You're most likely gonna need] an additional USB Type C to Type A cable. But as of now most aren't up to spec and those that are, are either sold out or over priced. Just make sure you don't lose your current cable for now.
I also got an aluminum stand and a wooden one for my phone since it doesn't have wireless charging. You can find a bunch on Amazon. Just be careful if you buy an aluminum one as they might bend the charging cable if you set the phone vertically.
If you need a portable charger Aukey and Anker come to mind. Both have excellent products and customer service and often coupon codes on Amazon.

I believe it was Lamicall and Moko but both bend the wire. As for the wood one I just bought the combo one for the iPhone and Apple Watch. It's very common on Amazon.
