Hi everybody,
I'd like to measure how much power is my getting while charging via the usb port with different chargers.
I used to have some widget that displayed how much power the device was getting, but I don't remember the name of the widget.
Please tell me the name of that widget or some other app that can do the same job.
Thanks.

OK.
I have read the Accessories Posts, but didnt found an Solution for this.
I own an 5000mah Power Bank with USB Connectors.
Output 1A.
So, as you Guys know, if i connect such Device via USB-Data Cable it is detected by Tab as "PC-connected" and the Tab does not charge. If Tab is off, it charges quick and i am able to charge it with one Power Bank Load 1 1/2 Time.
And with my Galaxy S it works also if the Phone is on.
So my Question.
Is there any Tweak, Trick or Mod to enable the Tab to Charge it this Way?
Is it possible to modify some System settings to bring it work?
Have you checked in settings, if the battery charge doesn't go up?
It will charge using any current (even 300mA) only slower. The icon on the battery just says "I'm not connected to my proper charger", not "I'm not charging".
On JM6 and JMA the icon is also a bit better and show's it's charging but not full speed But charge rate is same as before.

Yes.
I am also using Battery Pro that displays me an Icon with Battery Load in Percent.
But the Tab doesnt charge.
Load of Akku decreases.
Yes. (Having JMA) the Stock Icon displays that an Power source is connected but still doesnt charge at all.
My Hope was, that anyone with Programming/Coding Skills is able to bring the Charging to work.
I am not nearly able to do this
I find it absolutely bad, that Samsung has made this incision to the usability of the Tab.
On my Galaxy S i can change with the same Power Bank in Operation without any Problems.
Very Pity that the Tab does not

Hi Pbruck, which power pack are you using & what's the specification for it. can you provide me with the model no.? Thank you.
Hi,
i use this:
http://www.pearl.de/a-PX5398-5542.shtml
Sorry, but have only found it in this German Shop.
Maybe you can still use the provided Informations there.
Babelfish Translation:

It says "1A (2x usb)" so you need to use 2 ports to get to the 1A.
There is no programming or modding necessary, the tab charges from anything that is powerfull enough and your crappy cheap charger is not (im just teasing you cause i ordered things from pearl before and all they sell is junk).
Hi community,
I have a query I couldn't resolve on any ICS rom. For a number of weeks I was pretty sure it didn't charge when settled in a car dock. Lately it appeared in fact device is charged bit the ROM is unaware. It wouldn't show an icon nor show charging status on a lock screen. Also battery stats are unable to tell the phone has been charged.
I had a theory that car/lighter charger had too low power so I connected car dock to travel charged and got same result.
Same time desk dock works just perfect.
Anyone had same experience?

Not really a car dock, but I'm using a car charger bought for Samsung phones which is actually from energizer and works for just about anything usb. it plugs on the car lighter socket and has 2 usb outputs. My car supports 120w and the charger it good to up 1A so lack of power is never an issue. I just plug the phone's data cable there and the SGS charges normally. Using ics elite's 1.2 rom.
however, i do have your experience with some other (rather crappier, not even Android) Samsung phone. It appears connected and charging and it doesn't turn off if the battery is low if I'm phoning someone but as soon as i plug it out it didn't charge at all. My charger has a red light that turns on when it's charging something but it's not even on for this phone. Not really sure why this happens. The sgs works flawlessly though.

Ignore this, double posted accidentally and can't find how to delete from xda app. Will delete it from a computer later.
Hi all I think my charger input is damaged as it doesn't seem to charge any ideas or advice on what to do? I've bought a new charger but it hasn't helped

Make sure it isn't filled with pocket-fluff. That caused me some problems for a while.
Are you sure all the tasks are closed?
Look at the task manager, it happens to me when my web, facebook , facebook messanger a nd more couple of apps like games are opened at the same time.
close them all
Hi guy,
Does your battery become hot when charging ?
Perhaps you can wipe battery log it may help to start from 0 in battery stats.

Finally I find someone with the same issue. I still haven't figured out what causes it, but it only happens in some roms.
Sent from a dream.
Could be the cable as well.
Read quite often about it. Specially if you purchased a very cheap cable.
I'd take a look with battery monitor widget, how much mA is being put into your battery while charging.
Try another cable and see if it helps. If not, your battery may cause problems or your phone or the next cable isn't capable or whatever...
But it's pretty easy to find another cable for testing, right?
(don't know if you just bought a new charger or a cable as well)
Exactly! he is right. I had the same issue of charging and my pc also did not recognize my phone but I changed my cable I resolved all the issues regarding charging and pc recognition. Must check your cable and try to purchase an original one. I hope this will solve your problem.
Try charging it in the recovery.
First off,
this is not about the screen turns on at the moment when the phone is plugged in/out
this is not about i want to keep screen on when the phone is charging
The problem I am experiencing is:
when the phone is charging normally, the screen turns off. But at random intervals, the screen suddenly turns on itself and turns off like when you turn it on just to watch the time and let itself go to sleep. However, I have not moved/touched ANYTHING...
What am i using?
Nexus 4 shipped from play store
stock usb cable shipped with the device
AC adapter manufactured by LG (P500) which I have used for 2 years across P500 and Gnex without problem
AOKP unofficial and franco kernel
Settings are correct
Display settings > Sleep > After 2 mins of inactivity
Daydream > Off
Developer options > Stay awake > Off
Suspecting the ROM?
Unfortunately, I also got this on everything stock, when I was testing the phone before I root and just some basic testing apps were installed (Display Tester, Speedtest.net, Z-device test, Stability test)
BBS and logcat?
Unfortunately during plugged, BBS tells me it has no logs
and I tried to turn on alogcat immediately at the moment the screen turns on itself, however no suspicious logs shown
Only when charging?
Yes, I don't see similar random-screen-on behaviour when it is on battery
I have done numerous searches around but sadly can't find anyone with similar problem... Is it my stock usb cable was faulty which reconnects power at random intervals? Is it android 4.2 feature to screen on when something happens?
Please tell me if you have insights about it or you have experienced before!!! thank you very much in advance
P.S. this is my current list of running apps FYI
Settings
franco.Kernel updater
Whatsapp+
Facebook (refresh interval = never)
Maps (location report = off)
Wechat
Line
Camera360
BetterBatteryStats
SwipePad
Avast! Mobile Security (used since Gnex and had no problem)
dodol Phone
Simple Calendar Widget
Smart Statusbar
Battery Monitor Widget Pro (already had problem before installing this)
Exchange Services (check interval = push)
Google Services x2
Light Flow
GO Keyboard
Might be a cable problem. I had this with my long cable but had since disappeared after switching cables. Good luck.

I don't think any app that you have running is the problem nor ROM or kernel that you're using. I think the problem is that either your USB cable is nor functioning properly or the charger isn't working properly (which is unlikely since you've mentioned that it had worked fine on previous devices).
If you have spare cable, try that. Also try another charger if that helps.

guys thanks for helping me confirm that the culprit isnt the phone/software
i was then inspired to inspect my AC charger and USB cable and found something totally RIDICULOUS..... -_-
i found out that the line "charged" on the lockscreen blinks for several times at the moment power goes into the phone
then i suspect that the phone is expecting AC power but the initial current is not enough hence making it blink
I took out an non-stock cable and try - similar behaviour
then i plug out my AC adapter from my wall and compare it with the stock N4 adapter... lol my 2-year old LG P500 adapter was 0.7A and our N4 should expect 1.2A as the stock adapter prints... things really get old these days just like the need of changing SIM card
I searched over my home for a universal travel adapter to test out the Stock N4 charger - no blinks of word, no screen on, both cables good
US adapters doesnt fit the power outlets here in HK so tomorrow ima immediately get a 1.2A local AC adapter and everything should be fine
thanks very much again guys!
Sadly I have moved onto another personal phone, but since I have a plethora of XT897's lying around, I would like to be able to use them for other tasks.
When thinking of various things like hidden GPS tracker for my car or baby monitor for friends, one thing that really gets in the way is the fact that if the phone looses power for ~18 hours (however long the battery last given load), when power is applied again to the USB port, the phone by default stays off.
Does anyone know how to get the phone to automatically power on after the battery has died and it has started to recharge via USB? (Anything short of a 5 minute timer wired to the power button.)
I think I once saw people playing with the bootloader once, not sure if that is the right direction or not.
All my recent toys have been moved over to CM ... would the stock OS have something in the "Hidden Menu" Motorola app for this? Does anyone have info on that app?
I believe powering the device through the 5th pin on the USB will allow it to run without a battery, but I'm yet to try it. This may solve your problem if you hardwire the handset to your car battery etc.
I've often thought about repurposing handsets in this way - built in GPS/dash cam/music centre for a car etc, but without the heat & current draw of charging a battery.

Not running with an internal battery is an option, but could I get some more details of what you mean by 5th pin on the USB? Whats different than the typical charger with pin 1 at Vcc and pin 5 at Gnd? I try a typical USB charger with no battery in a phone, and I get the green charging light but the phone doesn't come on and won't come on when I hit the power button.

I've seen a few things about making an "active cable" by pulling the oddly used pin 4 high as shown:

Is that what you were thinking of? I need to try to get a hold of a micro cable that has all wires coming through.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about.
The micro usb cable plugs all have the 'extra' pin in them, but not the wire usually.
A USBOTG cable will either have the wire or the link to the pin.
Alternatively, buy a plug & make it up yourself??
I just haven't got round to testing it all out yet.

One frustrating thing about car docks etc is that when the phone/battery heats up, it stops charging the battery. This causes the battery to discharge while using GPS etc, so when I get to my destination, I also have a flat battery.
Running without a battery should overcome this. The battery has a temp sensor in it, which stops the charge cycle.
Alternative to the modded USB cable is running a voltage reducer, & hooking it straight to the battery input terminal on the phone. Around 3.6Vdc (3,5-4Vdc) should do it.

Not useful for a portable handset, but for a built-in device it is ideal.

I dunno if this helps you, but if I charge from PC USB port, I can't turn off the phone, it'll just restart by itself. If I charge from wall or car charger, it will stay on or off. Don't quite understand why, but it's quite annoying to charge from pc usb when you're battery is super low as it just constantly reboots itself until it builds up a little charge, but this annoyance may be useful to you.
There are different kinds of USB cables around: the "better" ones have both 0V/5V and data wires, while a few (charge-only) don't use the data wires. The latter type often comes with power banks - it's a tad cheaper... Try to find such a cable, and you'll be fine.
I run a little Xperia mini pro in my car, I went down the route of deleting the chargemon file to get it to power back up if the battery dies as I can't access the hard keys. This has worked fine for me over the past year or so.
