Is it possible to remap the volume controls so I can use them as BACK and HOME??
I am currently using GMD gesture control as I like to use apps in full screen mode but it would be alot handier for me to use the buttons as i generally use the N7 in portrait mode.
I have tried ButtonRemapper but for me it doesn't work.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,
I've searched everywhere I could hoping to find an answer to this question which I believe is very basic.
Is it possible to remap the hardware buttons on my Vogue running Android (Myn Donut). I would particularly like the "back" button to be the big button in D-pad (like the iphone).
Thanks a lot folks!
Ray
download Atools that has an option to change the button mapping to whatever you please
Thanks, I downloaded atools and the concept looks great
But i was hoping I wouldn't have to reflash everthing and reinstall everything just to swap 2 buttons... am I wrong? Is there no program that can customize a config file somewhere?
Thanks in advance!

nope, when you flash a new kernel you don't have to reinstall your system, but their isnt a program that can customize it
Use atools and apply update created by the keychanger.
aight, I'll definitely try that then!
any reason why the DPAD middle button (and DPAD up/down for that matter) are not available for customization in Atools?
Thanks!
i can add dpad in next release for which device?
I have a HTC Touch CDMA (vogue), do you need any other info?
I dont know why, but customization seems possible for every button on the Touch right now except for:
-DPAD-middle (big button)
-dpad-up
-dpad-down
-volume up
-volume down
if it's not too complex, maybe add support for "long press" for all buttons too?
Thanks a lot man, much appreciated!
Ray
Long press isn't supported if it is not present in kernel. I'm sorry i will add other button soon.
awesome!
Looking forward to it!
I did ask this yesterday but my thread appears to have been deleted.
Is there an application that will let me turn on my screen with the volume keys.
I was using screen mode but it doesn't appear to work with all the Roms i've tried
Thanks
There is two options, either you buy a custom lock screen off the market, for example widget locker, or lockbot pro which has the option for wake with the volume keys. If you are root s-off etc. you can use buttonremapper which is available from the market to change the volume rocker function to act as the power button.
Thanks for the reply & suggestions.
I tries ButtonRemapper but it didn't work.
I do have the full up paid version of LockBot Pro - could you tell me where the setting is to map the volume buttons to turn on screen?
Thanks again
Anyone help with this?
In lock bot pro, the option is called 'prevent wake up'.

do you have a custom rom or are you using stock rom? reason I'm asking is i realised only stock roms or kernels have the ability to wake using the volume buttons and I was wondering if lockbot pro was any different
I am using custom roms.
I have tried the lockbot pro feture & if I take the tick out of prevent wake up it works ok, so far.
I did try on another rom earlier today but it didn't work.
I did fancy widget locker but not sure if it does what I want?
Cheers
Hello everyone.
Last time my touchscreen stopped working. I figured out that every time i use 'end call key' my touch screen is not responding.
Question : Is it possible to switch key fundions? I mean... for example i want to make 'home' key my 'end call key' and vice versa. And if it is possible then how i can do it?
Check out Button Savior. I don't know about remapping hardware keys but this can give you software controls to get around it. There are also a tonne of screen lock widgets that could work, and some ROMs even have it built into quick settings on the notification drawer or the softkeys on ICS+ ROMs.

There used to be an app called button remapper on the play store but I can't find it now!!
Well anyway you can change the button mappings by editing the kepad layout file in /system/usr/keylayout/ folder.
Their will be a few their so you will have to figure out which one to edit for your rom.
Mine is htcleo_keypad.kl.
You will need a root explorer to do this, just open with a text editor!
Make sure to write down the mappings before starting then you can swap them about.
I am not sure but I think the power button isn't changeble but you can assign power to another key.
Ah, I was wondering if I had just gone crazy because I thought I remembered an app by that name but I couldn't find it.

Ironically I didn't actually bother searching on XDA So much for telling people to search
I have rooted my Note 3 and remapped the navigation buttons to match the galaxy nexus I came from. Now that I don't have the menu button is there a way (maybe in the build.prop) to enable the onscreen menu button? If not is there a way to enable all onscreen navigation buttons for the note 3? I tried the "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" approach but it caused system ui to crash. Thanks.
Looking for this as well. Got the same UI crash when adding that kind.
Why would you want to when we have hardware buttons?

I remapped my hardware buttons to match my galaxy nexus onscreen buttons (from left to right: Back, Home, Recent Apps). As you can see I don't have a menu button mapped. A lot of apps have the menu button in the UI but it doesn't show up if your device thinks it has a hardware menu button. So what I am looking for is a way to tell android that I do not have a hardware menu button. Thanks.
could you keep us updated if you find anything? could you make a quick tutorial how you were able to remap the buttons, or does it work exactly like on the s3:

Do the correct icons appear to the right and left of the home button with this mod?

Unfortunately not. I just turned the touch key lights off in display settings.
Has anyone figured this out yet?
So I found it really annoying when watching Netflix and accidentally hitting back or recent apps softkeys. Which pauses or exits out of movie everytime I do. Because of placement of soft keys (Navigation buttons) on Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. (Which is where I hold the tab in landscape)
So I found a way to disable back/ recent apps and Home buttons. Temporarily
Settings /Device /Accessibility
Scroll to very bottom
Enable interaction control
Use volume down and home at same time to enable
Uncheck all checkboxes
Now soft keys (Navigation buttons) and home are disabled.
Usefully when watching a movie and holding with your hand on softkeys.
(Have to disable multi window to enable this feature)
If helped, thanks would be appreciated.

I tried to do this on the demo units in Best Buy but I couldn't get it to work. Could it be the demo software they had on it?

Possibly idk? Works on mine. Sometimes tablets/ TV have a retail firmware on them which isn't the same as what you take home. So could be possible
This worked for me.

Home key had to be disabled in both of the below locations. This completely disables the hardware keys so make sure to enable the on screen keys first.
Note: The onscreen keys don't show up in landscape mode for some reason so I use LMT launcher for the few times I need navigation keys in landscape.

Does anyone know how to disable the back light on the capacitive keys? I've been able to disable the buttons from functioning and I've got LMT launcher installed but I'd really like to stop them from lighting up if possible.
The only thing that stops me from buying the tab pro 8.4 at the moment are the hardware keys. I am used to on screen buttons and as I can see in some review-videos and as some of you already mentioned, if you hold the tablet in landscape you could accidentally come in touch with the capacitive keys or the home button. Therefore I am very interested in how you can handle the tab pro 8.4 with hardware-keys disabled and on screen keys enabled. Can anyone share some screenshots how it looks like?

So at the moment there is no way to have googles on screen buttons in landscape mode?
I use xposed additions to remap buttons from single click to long press on my son's 8.4 since he kept accidentally hitting buttons and getting frustrated. Not exactly what you are looking for but it has helped us here. Take a look at button Savior on the play store as well. You could use xposed additions to disable buttons and then use button Savior buttons.
