[Q] Updating firmware from rooted 1.1.0 to solve wifi issues? - Nook Touch General

I can't connect to wifi any more -- simply endless unsuccessful attempts (while standing next to the wifi hub). It used to sometimes take a few goes to connect, but it's now given up entirely. I have a rooted 1.1.0.
Has anyone come across this issue, and know of a fix other than updating the firmware? (I see 1.1.0 might have "wifi issues").
I've heard that 1.1.2 might have fixed the wifi issues -- and I can get it here http://topdownloads.ru/archives/file/nook_1_1_2_update/7152798.htm
Alternatively I could go all the way on up to 1.2.1, I see, but then my root method would be NookManager rather than TouchNooter -- so I have to install GApps myself via adb? Ah or see if I can get everything I want via the Amazon app store? Is there any advantage to the later firmware, or should I grab 1.1.2 and do it the way I'm familiar with?
Also, how do I do a firmware update on a rooted nook? Do I have to go all the way to factory reset, or can I hang onto my apps and their settings some nice way? (Sorry if there are instructions for this somewhere, I can only find "get the right firmware first" instructions).

I'll be posting an addon to NookManager tonight or tomorrow for installing gapps if you want to go 1.2.1. It best not to try to install gapps via adb as there are firmware and system file patches that are required to get it working that are better done with the system booted off a NookManager or other root installer microSD card.
If you are changing firmware it is best to go back to stock and reroot. But you don't need to lose everything either. Install Titanium Backup and backup all your apps first. Then go back to factory, upgrade your firmware, reroot and install gapps. Then install Titanium Backup and restore all your apps. You won't lose settings in your apps that way.

Great -- I'll have to leave it till next weekend by now anyway, so I'll give 1.2.1 a go having saved all my stuff.

[Q] Market disappears on rooted 1.2

Hey all,
Everytime I root my 1.2 device with manual nooter 4.5.6 (haven't tried .18), I get one download out of the Android Market. After that the Market.apk disappears from the system/app directory and I can no longer download apps. The end result of this is that I'm pretty much hosed. I've tried putting SU File Manager on to sideload apps, but it can't installed BusyBox because of the market problem, so no luck with that. I've reproduced this issue at least half a dozen times, using CWR to delete all the user data, re-registering the stock install, and then rooting again.
At this point I'm staying stock until I feel confident I can download more than one app from the market on a rooted device.
So, has anyone else experience anything like this, and if so, is there a solution?
I have this same problem. No solution yet.
It may be related to a download directory bug which has been fixed. I updated to MN4.5.18 over 4.5.6. Everything worked well untill a recent update to 4.5.25. The market crashed again. This issue seems not solved yet. So I had to flash back 4.5.18.
Same here - .18 works very well once you figure out you have to uninstall the apps that want to update and then reinstall clean to remove the chance of bootloops. I was considering doing a complete wipe again and flashing .25, but I've decided to stick it out with .18 until they get squared away.
Overall, MN4.5.18 kicks ass for all intents and purposes, and I'd suggest moving up to that.

[Q] Nook Touch + Market Stopped working

So i have a Nook Simple Touch I was using about 9 months ago, which fell to disuse for a bit for a variety of reasons. It's running 1.1.0, and is rooted.
I dusted it off to recently give it some more use again, and wanted to update some of the apps, but discovered that the Market doesn't seem to work anymore - I know it used to, but now, whenever I try to download anything, I get a dialog: "Download Errror: Download was unsuccessful, please try again." I've waited an extra day, as I remember that was originally necessary to complete the registration process, but still nothing. Searching (with Market Search) works, even for things I haven't looked up before, and it still recognizes my account, as I see my email, though I noticed that the Nook Touch doesn't get listed in the Google Play Store under devices.
Any ideas what might be going wrong here, or things to try? I'm also willing to upgrade to a newer firmware (1.2.1), but am not sure of the best method to update a rooted device. I can pull it into a separate post, but I'll include it here for now:

Sad, no one wants to reply. Or perhaps no one knows.
Did a backup, and experimented. I couldn't update directly, so I wiped back to a stock ROM, and upgraded to 1.2.1. Rooted with ManualNooter, and the market worked. So I have no idea what was going on, but it works now. Sadly, a computer accident made me lose my backups (including unrooted images). But at least I've got something functional.
I am currently in the same boat with my NST (BNRV300) running rooted 1.1.2. I last installed and/or updated some Market apps successfully perhaps about a year ago, and have not made any other change to the Nook, so I am at a lost as to what might be the cause. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
For now, my workaround this problem is to download the desired app's apk file from an alternate source (e.g., APKPure) then side-load it onto the NST.
My guess would be that somehow your authtication with Google has been lost on the device.
If you go to the PlayStore on a computer do you see your NST listed as a device, and if so, when you select an app that way does it eventually appear on your NST?

I think you are right -- my NST credential with the Playstore must have expired or more likely become invalid when I changed my password on my Gmail account.
If so I can't figure out how to re-validate the credential: I recall entering my Google login/password via the YouTube app during the course of rooting my NST using the MinimalTouch tool's 2-phase process, but now I can't even get the YouTube app to start (error message: ... problem starting up, please check your network connection and system time).

I decided to go the route of "factory reset, upgrade to 1.2.1 and re-root using Nook Manager", as simply re-rooting 1.1.2 using the old tool (Minimal Touch) is tedious & somewhat error-prone -- plus I'd like to try out 1.2.1.
That was what I would usually suggest but the farther I have gotten from that "day 1", the less likely I am to take/offer the same advice. I've made so many modifications at this point I don't think I'd ever get it back to its present state! Back up early and often...and, apparently, access the Market every so often, even if you don't want anything.

[Q] Help troubleshooting 0x1117008 with latest OTA update

Hi folks,
I've got a Verizon LG G2, and I've performed the following tweaks:
- Disabled a few unneeded services (e.g. verizon location agent, sync service, etc. using the built-in android capability
- Rooted via "ioroot" technique
- Installed ClockWorkmod Superuser app (for some reason the ioroot app wasn't prompting before allowing root)
- Backed up and then uninstalled extra cruft using Titanium Backup.
Lately I noticed that there's an OTA update available. However, when I try to install it, it reboots and eventually gives me a 0x1117008 error. Through a little bit of searching, I concluded that 0x1117008 was perhaps an error indicating that the device had been rooted. And sure enough, the Status section in About Phone did indicate "rooted" in Rooting Status.
Through using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, I was able to un-root the phone. I also removed other traces of the SuperUser apk and used the "forel.lee" trick to reset the "Rooting Status" property back to "unrooted". However even after all of this, the update failed with 0x1117008. "Rooting Status" still shows "unrooted" after the failed update, too. So my next strategy was to restore the bundled cruft apps via Titanium Backup, and re-enable the unneeded services (and subsequently performing the root removal steps). And sure enough, 0x1117008 once again.
My questions at this point are:
- Is 0x1117008 really because the error detected that the device was rooted? Or is it perhaps some generic message that could mean multiple things?
- If 0x1117008 is indeed because root was detected, does that imply that the update process does a different/more-thorough check for a device having been rooted? And if so, what indicators of having been rooted might I be missing? e.g., could it even be going as far as detecting the presence of apps such as Titanium Backup Root as indication of being rooted?
- Other posts indicate that a way to get the OTA update working is to do a factory reset and then upgrade from there. But that'd blow out all of my data such as text messages and app-specific stuff, right?
Any questions or suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. I'm not overly concerned about this incremental upgrade, but my fear is that when the KitKat update eventually comes out, I'll be in the same boat. Worst case scenario, I suppose a factory reset combined with the same steps that I used to migrate data from my old phone (Google online backup, SMS Backup & Restore, etc.) might allow me to do it. But that was a headache I'd like to avoid if at all possible.

Well, I tried doing a factory reset, and it still resulted in a 0x1117008 error on attempting to install the OTA update! It wasn't really straightforward, but here's what I did to get the phone updated:
Create Titanium Backup Root backup
Create SMS Backup & Restore backup
Via adb shell, make a tarball of all of /sdcard
Get a copy of that tarball via adb pull
Do factory reset. This will clear everything in /sdcard!
Remove evidence of root
Use LG Mobile Support Tool to get latest ROM. I can't link to it, but google for B2CAppSetup.exe The option to update the software is available via a menu option. It's about 2GB and takes a while to download.
Re-root (ioroot 1.7)
adb push sdcard tarball back on device
Extract sdcard tarball via adb shell
Restore messages via SMS Backup & Restore
I had unchecked the option to have Google back up my apps during one of my factory resets, and this apparently deleted my online backups. So my app restores were manually via Titanium Backup
It's possible that this upgrade may have succeeded without doing a factory reset, which would have made things much easier. Also, I did note that during the Firmware Update process, it said "UNROOTED" on the screen. It's not clear if it would have succeeded if it were detected as rooted.
Edit: It appears that SMS Backup & Restore is redundant, as Titanium Backup can restore SMS messages. And Contacts as well. (I have a number of non-google-synced contacts)

Encounter the same error while doing ota update. G2 rooted.

I encounter the same problem here while updating via OTA. Please guide me. Did u do factory reset using LG Support Tool or did u simply update kitkat via PC Suite? Will it also encounter the same error when using the latter method?

Reviving an old thread. I'm getting the same error with the Latest January 2015 update. Rooted with towel root. Stock ROM, no frozen apps. My Wife's stock unrooted G2 updated fine.

Same error here. Rooted with Towel Root and stock rom. Wifi hotspot mod is about the only thing I've done with the root. Wondering if reverting the hotspot mod will allow it to update.

Hosed my phone (TiBa move apps to ROM)- G services down- looking for next steps

All-
Verizon Galaxy S5, rooted stock NI2 (KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2), stock recovery. Did this sometime last year (back when NI2 was the newest), don't necessarily remember the steps, but it involved downgrading+towelroot+upgrading. Everything's been fine, until I decided to try and free up some internal memory by using TitaniumBackup (pro) to move apps to ROM. Got about 1/3 of the way through, started getting all sorts of G service/app bombs (specifically around Google Play Services plus a few others), and the process never completed. Had almost constant popups about Google+, Google Maps, and Play Services. Searched for quite a while on fixes for this- didn't seem like there were any I could use.
Here's what I've tried:
- clear cache from recovery, no change (figured I'd give it a shot)
- reloaded NI2 stock kernel md5 via ODIN, no change (guessing since I've got a broader ROM issue)
- attempted loading GAPPS via sd card via recovery- no dice since stock recovery fails on signature/verification
- backed up apps/data with Titanium, and factory refresh from recovery- still same issue ("error occurred during installation of Google+... uninstall and install again")
At this point, I can't get to Play Store to do any installations from there. I'm not too interested in getting on Lollipop, and would be happy getting back to where I was before (NI2+root). Since I'm already rooted, I searched and couldn't find something like a "NI2 rooted ROM", and think my only option at this point is to ODIN a full stock NCG retail tar, and follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880, which I'm still reading through, but which will basically be a towelroot of NCG and upgrade from there.
Is this my only option, or is there a way to blast the ROM to the extent that I keep root but my system issues are fixed?

I have a question. Are we allowed to downgrade our phones with firmware without voiding our warranty? No root... I need to call verizon and they may ask me what firmware im running...lol

Help with Root and Recovery please!

My Galaxy S4 was dying so T-Mobile just replaced it with an S5. It came with:
LMY47X.G900TUVS1FOJ4
I clicked on Software updates in About device and it did whatever updates, but the version stayed the same. Then I went to autoroot [dot] chainfire [dot] eu and downloaded the correct file to root. I unzipped the file and ran Odin 3.10.6 that came with it. I was able to root the device no problem.
What seemed like a problem afterward was that I couldn't find SuperSU in the Application list. I know the phone was rooted though because I could launch Titanium Backup to restore all my stuff from the S4. I went to the Play Store to download SuperSU. It kept complaining that I needed a new binary, but it would fail every time to update. I even tried downloading the latest SuperSU zip to install in the recovery mode, but that failed too. I really wasn't too worried about this.
While looking up how to root the S5, I saw some posts where people mentioned their root access stopped after 24 hours. I just experienced this when I launched Titanium Backup to begin uninstalling bloatware. I was informed that I didn't have root access anymore.
I figured I'd try to reflash the auto-root through Odin. According to Odin, everything passed, but looking at the device, it said it's already patched and the restore failed, so it aborted.
Now the device is stuck in an infinite reboot loop. I can access both the download and recovery modes, but that's it.
I'd really really like to not have to do a factory wipe as it was a pain to get everything copied over from the S4.
Can I flash it with something else?
Once I can get back in the device, how do I keep the device rooted? Do I have to flash TWRP or CWM?
The only root program I use is Titanium Backup and would really really like to keep using it to makr regular backups.

Try booting into recovery and wiping the CACHES
If it still won't boot, grab a stock ROM from sammobile .com for your model S5 (G900T by the looks of the ROM name) and flash it with ODIN from download mode
That won't wipe your data or anything you've restored, as long as you don't reset
If it still won't boot, you might have to suck it up and factory reset after flashing stock
Was the TiBu backup you restored, rooted? Maybe restoring the backup restored an old version of SuperSU and broke the CF AR version
Might need to go down the TWRP and SuperSU from TWRP recovery route to get it rooted properly if CF AR isn't woprking 100%, which it doesn't for a fair few people

The Titanium Backup I restored was rooted. Everything was totally fine, until I went back to TB and it suddenly told me I wasn't rooted anymore.
I did try TWRP after I made the original post. I think messed up the device, but I can get in now. I flashed the latest version and booted into Recovery Mode. I clicked on Fix Permissions and possibly one other thing. It let booted farther before the infinite bootloop. It'd show my lock screen and give me 1-2 seconds before rebooting. If I swiped quickly, I could see the home screen with most of my icons gone. Clicked on Apps shows most of the apps are gone. When I removed the SIM card, I stopped getting the infinite bootloop. Here are the list of important programs I have left:
Contacts (all cleared out), Gallery (all present), Messages (all present), My Files (shows files from previously installed programs that I can no longer access), Phone (works when I put the SIM card back in), Settings
Unfortunately, TB and the Play Store are both gone. I might be able to install stuff using adb or by copying files over. I haven't tried, but it doesn't look good. I tried reflashing the CF ROM. It didn't change anything. I suspect I may be looking at a factory reset at this point. I'm happy to try any other suggestions.

I created an account and downloaded the stock ROM. I flashed the device and got most of the programs to appear again though the Play Store was still missing. I decided to cut my losses and just do a factory reset. I rooted again and put everything back in place. Now I'm experiencing the problem where I lost root after a day or so of use. I'll start a new thread.
