Nexus 4 Sense Rom - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, i've got a Droid DNA with htc sense 4+, and i'm thinking that also the NExus 4 has s4 processor and other similiar hw pieces. So why we can't have a funcionally sense on our nexus? It could be great! I know that is probably a noob's question so exuse me!

Someone ported the blur UI so I'm sure sense is doable....maybe a little more proprietary though

Because most people who use Nexus 4 prefer ASOP. More importantly, the developers who devote their time to produce the ROM for your use at the cost of 0$ seems to like ASOP/CM a lot more than Sense. The do what they like and what they enjoy. If you really really want a Sense ROM, you can try to port it I wouldn't suggest pestering the devs
Also, I heard that Google didn't actually drop the source code with all of the necessary drivers for the device.
And LG phones don't use Sense, as you imagine, porting Sense from HTC to a LG phone will be a tough work.
Don't take me wrong, I will be happy to try a Sense ROM on the N4 too. But don't expect it to happen. It won't happen.

+1 for a Sense ROM.
I also hope that the similarities of the hardware could make a Sense port easier.

Why?.
Also, sense isn't open source.

Could be possible but N4 is missing a lot of driver support thanks to Qualcomm.

If you just like the look, not necessarily features (what features? I'm not even sure... Ha) there's a really good sense theme for cm10.1 in the play store. Several awesome icon themes in the play store too for your launcher. Widget locker has a sense theme too, functional like the actual sense software. I'm not sure what's missing from there. I got nostalgic for my old droid eris the other day and looked into it a little bit

Just asking. i'd love a sense Rom because is really a good personalization. It's not just a skin. But if HTC will give us the proper drivers for s4 pro can we use it for the n4?

I hope some of our Nexus S devs latch on to this one. It would be very cool for us to test it out.

as far as i know. they didnt even port the old htc sense. you want them to port the new one ?
yeah i dont think so. they will port it to desire hd or hd2 or whatever htc device. but i highly doubt you will see it on galaxy S or Nexus S since they are made by samsung.
i could be wrong. but i dont see it happening. at least not any time soon.
besides. isnt getting htc sense or any launcher defeats the purpose of owning a nexus S ? people bought it for pure google expieriance. if you didnt buy your nexus S for that reason then you made the wrong choice of a phone

Actually sense is already ported to the NS. Where have you been? Isn't the NS a dev phone? Isn't Android open source? What's wrong with variety? You act like if SENSE, TOUCHWIZ or Blur roms are ported you wouldn't try it. If you don't like SENSE then you shouldn't of opened my post. Its not like the title didn't speak for itself. Thanks.

I agree with the pure google experience part but honestly, if somebody puts their efforts into porting sense and creating another rom for the development section.
I don't see the harm of having another rom. Ns dev needs more roms. If you don't like it, don't use it. Android is filled with open customization.

Thank you for this statement. We need more variety! What's wrong with choices? People change their minds all the time. We all know we would at least try a sense, touchwiz, etc port if it became available. That doesn't mean we would use it as a daily driver, but its nice to know if you want a different rom one week or the next you can switch.

Sense 3.0

Do you think custom ROMs will allow us to have HTC's Sense UI 3.0 on this phone?

I'd love to have it, with the recent reports showing the horsepower that it have coupled with Sense 3.0 that would be the perfect phone to have
If people want the HTC Sense experience then they should look at a HTC Phone. Although a Port is possible, its very time consuming and by the time someone actually port's it over with all the drivers working, your device will be close to the yearly refresh and you will want the next best thing. This will leave the developer in a limbo where his efforts didnt truly pay off.

It's not possible, Galaxy S is half baked, Nexus S also try, half baked. Samsung uses totally different structure on android Nexus S can't even port TouchWiz and its the same manufacturer. I would love to get S II spec wise it blows the Sensation out.

Id say its all about taste. Personally I think motorola's UI is the worst, followed closely by the apple wannabe touchwiz. Funny, I actually hated sense as well at first, but now that im using it for a while, I LOVE IT.
Also, its because htc has added soooo much functionality, like finding/wiping/ringing from anywhere(laptop) incase its lost, or stolen, etc. Plus auto-backup of messages, apprx 100 very useful widgets, plus may apps wich save you a lot of time if you had to download one by one. Basically, its a complete package that looks good and offers functionality that no other manufacturer can even come close to, especially being built in from start. no headaches. I myself wish it could be ported but I doubt, especially with how "involved" its gotten lately

I had a Galaxy S, then Atrix and now Inspire. Next I'm buying Galaxy S II because the bootlogger is unlocked and I want the light weight, dual core processor power and video enhancements.
The Inspire is amazing. I like it far better than the Atrix because I can put custom roms on it. I was able to root the Atrix and do a few modifications but it was very limited. I strongly recommend the Inspire.
The Sensation is locked down as is the Atrix. If you want a good out of the box phone Atrix is as good as you get until the Galaxy S II arrives. Sensation will be great but probably about the same as the Galaxy S II.
It is hard to recommend a phone without knowing what you do with your phone. For me the unlocked boot logger is the difference between buying and not buying.
Personally I prefer Sense.I think that Samsung have basically copied the iPhone in design and UI. If someone could remove the native Samsung bloat and add sense, all would be good in the world(for me at least)

I think we can. If enough people that have bought a SGS2 ask for sense then I am sure someone(developer) will be willing to design it for SGS2. From what I have seen of custom roms so far, I think that there are some more than capable developers out there that could do it. If I could write code I definitely would(perhaps I should start learning. The only question is can an old dog(me) learn new tricks?????)

Any ROM port suggestions?

What ROMs do you guys want? I ported MIUI to epic and am working on other stuff there. I can probably port MIUI ICS when we get CM9. What do you guys want though? HTC's Tablet Sense?
EDIT: I have the WiFi version btw, so if anyone wants carrier specific versions of ROMs, tell me what to change or just take my WiFi Roms and add support for your carrier.
No idea, i would love a source built ICS ROM but I hear CM9 is on the horizon and to my knowledge no Tegra 2 device has a GPU accelerated ICS ROM????
Just had to bump the thread and throw some words in..

I can't quite build from source yet. Don't have the skills or the computer requirements (if my pc tried to build ics, it'd probably take days, weeks, months, or even years). I have a netbook and ics takes several hours to build with 16gb of ram so I can't imagine it with only 1 gb.

Don't really know that much about different roms, I've only used CM7 and some smaller ROMs really .
Never used MIUI, but I heard it's nice, so that would be an option.
But personally, I believe people would really appreciate if you have the knowledge/skill to help on CM9 for our tab somehow ^^
And of course, thanks for your work!

Sorry but I don't have the skill or knowledge for cm9, but we're in good hands: pershoot and cyanogen (you know, the guy who started cyanogenmod and the namesake of it). We'll have good builds soon, but apparently theres a non technical issue for all tegra 2 devices.
I can do miui once we get a good cm9 build and I will, but I need for other tablets to be supported because otherwise the resolution will be qhd at best. Either that or I need to find a way to make things support our resolution.

Wait, you meant an actual Sense ROM? Oh there's most likely no way in hell you'll pull that off, that's like 95% impossible. If you actually manage to pull it off though, I'll be amazed. No HTC device has the Galaxy Tab resolution, chip set, GPU, CPU, so some hard care porting is needed. Still, I'll be super impressed if you could get a Sense ROM booting, even if almost nothing worked.

port from what?
If you can take another ROM honestly, I'd like a CM7 ROM. There is nothing about Honeycomb that I think is significantly better than Gingerbread especially with the CM7 features.
Or does it have to be another Tablet ROM like something from the Motorola Xoom or Acer Iconia?
I don't know if this is even possible but I love the UI on gridOS
Its android based but I do no of that's enough
If you don't know what it is look it up on YouTube or something
It looks amazing

Any devs/porters interested in porting sense?

Hi. I am a rom porter/dev (depending on the definition you use) who just got a galaxy tab 10.1. Considering that our hardware is similar, I think it'd be in the best interests for galaxy tab 10.1 owners along with other tegra2 tablet owners could work together to port sense. I hope this is not against forum rules posting here, but I posted this so we can all help each other out to get sense ported.

I just don't understand why everyone loves sense. At best, it is a battery and performance vampire. Sure, it has some neat features, but... every time I end up with an HTC device, the first thing I do is install a non-sense rom.
To each his own, though. Good luck.

To answer your question its is a very hard a daunting task.
Best way to get your device as close as sense would be flashing a galaxy tab rom port by fguy(my current rom) its under tabletroms Acer forum. And use apw Widgets. With adw ex or SPB shell
Or you can use Thors galaxy tab port at tegra owners Acer rom's forum user pimpmaneaton has ported a HTC sense theme from boosted for that rom and use apw Widgets to complete your desired look!
HTC is battery hungry and a pain in the ass or impossible so no one wants to port it plus user base won't use it as much compared to asop or stock Acer based rom's.

I would be really interested in having a full Sense themed ROM. I have a HTC Desire Z at the moment and had an HTC Hero before that. I absolutely love HTC's implementation of Sense and how things work so well. Really don't mind the extra battery use because you really can't get that kind of integration and ease of use for nothing.
Good luck finding anyone who wants to reverse engineer the closed source sense framework and then try and get it to work on our hardware.
The only successful sense ports have in the past been HTC to HTC devices such as the desire ROM to nexus one, or sensation to desire etc. It's a bit different porting sense to a device which already runs sense. The nexus one was really just a desire running aosp Android.

[Q] Who else would love a Sense port ROM?

Before I say anything, Devs please do not see this as a request or as demanding in ANY way. You all do fantastic work and really make this device shine. Anyways... I was wondering if anyone else wishes there was a Sense based port. With the DNA being so close relativity in specs, I am sort of surprised there has not been any talk of a port. I am absolutley not a developer and could not create a ROM to save my life, I'm just a lowly power user lol.
I would much rather have Sense 5(when it comes out) since it's newer and looks cleaner.

I would also like to see a sense rom, it would be cool to be able to have one phone that could run any ui. We already have Motorola blur, why not HTC sense, and touchwiz. If you don't like it you don't have to flash it. I love the nexus line of hardware and aosp, but for flashaholics like me, the more ROMs available the better off I am. I don't have the time to learn how to build ROMs. My wife stays on my case as it is, and all I do is flash a ROM and set it up the way I want it. I go to work to make money so I can pay someone to do all the things that I don't want to do and the things I don't know how to do. I have one set of skills and you probably have a different set of skills in your line of work. I don't know anybody who knows how to do everything. This is why I said that I would donate to a dev who comes up with a sense ROM.

I came from the HTC G2, the stock android version of the Desire Z (codename: Vision). Basically, in my opinion at least, any Sense ROM that was not a kang of a ROM shipped by HTC for the Vision has a bunch of bugs and oddities and things that just don't work nicely. And the Vision has one the best developers community that I have seen around. You still get CM 10.1 nightlies uover there even as the last update from HTC was GB back in 2010.
So... while I support having choices, thus would welcome any Sense ROM for the N4, I actually don't think it's a good idea to try.
