Moto Chinese input gone - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone I have scoured the net to try and find this, I lost the original moto Chinese input somehow, can someone with titanium backup or rom toolbox find out what the package is called and let me know? Thanks in advance

Moto Chinese Input is com.motorola.inputmethod.entry
The one with what appears to be Chinese characters is com.motorola.inputmethod.gpinyin

Thank you I found it in my system dir but rom toolbox cannot parse the file, I also noticed the .odex is missing for it maybe that is why it won't show up. Do you think maybe you could upload to files for me? I would greatly appreciate it, I cannot find a download for it anywhere, and the 2 I did find are not up anymore

I have Titanium Backup backups, would that work? I dumped them from my phone but could restore if needed. I can upload a little later.
Sent from my XT907

Yeah that would work I need the apk and odex files for com.motorola.inputmethod.entry
If you could upload them I'd really appreciate it

Here is the apk:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15941673/com.motorola.inputmethod.entry.apk
I didn't see a corresponding .odex, but I might not have been looking in the right place. Oddly enough, when it's installed it's just called switcher.apk, maybe that helps?

Thanks for the download I installed it and tried to convert to system app but it isn't showing up in my apps list in ROM toolbox, any suggestions?
Sent from my rooted RAZR M via XDA app

I don't use Rom Toolbox, but downloaded and installed the apk, and it showed up under language and input like it should. Didn't have to make it a system app.
Sent from my XT907

Well I screwed up somewhere and I uninstalled it and lost my backup somehow, it originally was a system app and I was thinking that if there were any OTA's to come out it may effect me downloading them if it wasn't a system app anymore. I should have probably bought titanium backup instead of rom toolbox lol..

Oh, I thought you just needed the Chinese input to work. You can always use RSD to go back to 100% stock if an update comes out.

Thanks for your help I was trying to find a noob friendly way of restoring the app.
Sent from my rooted RAZR M via XDA app

If you have a root-capable file explorer, you should just be able to put it in /system/app/ make sure the permissions are correct, and be good to go.

I tried that but then it doesn't show up under app list, I'll keep tinkering around to see if i can get it to work thanks a lot for the file though

Contacts app seems shot on D2

I have a droid 2 that i rooted, have clockwork recovery installed, and deodexed.
Somewhere along the line, it seems like my contacts app has been broken. When I try to get into contacts, the app closes about a second after it opens. I can get into my contact list via the contact search or the dialer, but you can't add contacts from that view. I tried going back to an earlier backup via clockwork but that hasn't fixed it.
Has anyone else seen this problem? I guess if worse comes to worse I'd be willing to go back to the stock rom...if that is my only option if someone could give me an idea of where to look for that I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew
So you are on stock ROM deodexed? If not please let us know what ROM you are on.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
yes stock rom deodexed, version 2.3.20
I have a restore point set within version 2.2.20 in case I do need to go back.
Thanks!
Any ideas? I would be ok with restoring to a sbf if there's no other way to fix this issue. Is there a third party contacts app that I could use as a walkaround to add contacts?

You shouldn't go back to a 2.2.0 backup it could cause problems after you've been on 2.3.2 but I don't know this for a fact. Just know that things might not work correctly if you restore to 2.2.0.
If you try the 2.2.0 backup and things don't go well I'd have the 2.3.2 SBF handy just in case. That way you can just go to the bootloader and flash the 2.3.2 sbf and you'll be at factory and the problem shouldn't be there unless the sbf's contacts is broken too.
Thanks for the advice. I ended up buying contact group manager from the market. Its a good app for 1.95
I'll have to get the most current sbf just in case.

[Q] New to Droid X - need to root, install a custom ROM, help?

I know I know, there are probably lots of threads on this but I'm having a difficult time finding them.
Basically I just need some guidance in how to go about
1) Rooting the phone
2) installing whatever is needed to flash a ROM
3) how to flash a ROM
Let me know, I have a droid incredible and I'm very familiar with that process- but since the X has a locked bootloader it seems it's different here.
Look for z4root, droidx bootstrap and do lots of reading.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Already did, here's where I'm dumbly stuck.
I download z4root off of here since it was removed from the market. I have the settings enabled where I should be able to install apk's that are not form the market, however when I try to run the download it'll tell me "can not find program to run this file".
Pretty annoying and frustrating, any suggestions?
FYI it is definitely .apk I didn't rename the extension to anything else.
Did you download it directly to your phone? You need to download it to your computer and then move the file to the sdcard. Don't know why but it worked for me. I was having the same problem.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ah ok, yes I did download it to the phone. Weird because my incredible didn't have to do that.
I guess different phones have different ways.
My sister with the droid x is out and about, so I hope to work on it when she gets back and hopefully get a good ROM going on it.

The file here at this link will work no parsing error when downloaded to phone, there are some other vids on the channel that may be of use

Thanks, finally got it all working (yesterday) but wanted to post to thank you guys for the input and also to say how amazed I am at how much smoother and quicker the phone is without the bloat.
Didn't realize it was tied down so much.
Ah crap.....based on that endorsement I'm DEFINITELY gonna have to root now!

I rooted my sisters Droid X, my dad has the same exact droid X phone unrooted.
Comparing the 2 is completely different in how quick they are.
My dad's phone is a headache of lagginess and disappointment in speed.
Quite the opposite on the rooted phone.
I used the Liberity 1.5 ROM and also downloaded Launcher Pro from the market (just suggestions ) I never liked ADW launcher.

Update question.

Ok I looked pretty far backand haven't found my answer, if this is a repost please delete and sorry.
Ok I'm stock rooted epic, so I know wwithout the asphalt demo I won't get the ota, but I re downloaded the demo like a normal .apk game and installed will that be ok to get the OTA? or will I have to save it to my sd card as a zip file and do it that way? Sorry new to all this rooting and what not. Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No, downloading the demo like a normal .apk most likely would not work since the demo is made specifically for the Epic 4G and optimized to run a bit differently than other demos.
I'm not sure exactly if downloading via .zip might work; I don't see why it shouldn't. If it didn't though, then you'd probably have to do a wipe, I'm not sure.
P.S. Post in the Q&A next time
You need the epic specific one cause it had a different file name then what's in the market. Need to use adb or root explorer to place it in /system/app.
The original apk can be pulled from the epic system dump posted a while ago, I'm on my phone so I cant give you the link, do some searching, it was posted several times right after eb13 came out .
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Thanks ill try tofind it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ok one last thing, the one I downloaded to my phone like a normal .apk was the actual asphalt demo that is in the zip for the epic. I unzipped it on my cpu and put it onto sd card and installed like any normal .apk, so I'm wonderng if that's ok. I'm sorry I should have said that in my original question.

Xda app issues with Rendeiro's scramble mod

So I have been using the scramble 2.2.1 from Rendeiro2005. Very happy with it and will stick with it until there is a good 2.3 mod out.
One weird issue I have been having is that I am unable to update the XDA app that came with the mod. When I go to update it, I get "installation unsuccessful". I tried to just uninstall and reinstall and I am unable to uninstall. With root uninstaller, I get "uninstall unsuccessful".
Not a huge deal, but it is a bit irritating. I looked through the whole thread in the developers forum and didn't see anyone else with this issue. Anyone have any ideas about this?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Oh yeah, when I try to upgrade and it fails, I click on the notification and it says "package not signed correctly".
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Ok so I got on a computer and did some searching. I seem to fail at searching the forum from my phone, because I found this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030053
It is odd, because the OP on that thread was having issues with calls and other things because he didn't patch his baseband. I am on 2.1.54 and not having any other issues besides this one. Do I need to do something with the baseband?
you are not able to update XDA app coz its in /system/app folder and not /data/app
as per my understanding
that's becuase it comes packaged with the rom itself.....
BTW any specific reason why you want to update the app...

I checked for an update because it crashed a couple of times and it gets hung up every so often. I uninstalled it with titanium like in the other thread and I am now getting "Incompatible Update" just like that other guy. Now I have nothing.
I made a backup with xrecovery about week ago and I guess i can restore that to get the app back, but I would like to fix this instead. Is there some reference I can remove to be able to install the app in the /data/app folder?

How to move back to UK 3.0.1??

Hello friends,
I am currently on tiamat 2.1 hammerhead rom n am pretty unhappy with the way its working for me. Have asked a few questions on their three but to no avail or maybe no one has answers to my problems.
Though I really appreciate team tiamat"s efforts.
Could someone please tell me how can I flash back to original 3.0.1 n then get the original motorola update?
Many thanks guys.
Cheers

Stock images should be on Motorola developer site, download and flash them and you are back to stock.
Make sure you download the correct images for your device. If you lock your bootloader with wrong images you will brick your device. Actually there is no need to lock the bootloader.
Yep all instructions are on MOTO website
Don't really need to re lock unless you are sending for repair

No you can't. Follow instruction on motodev site.
The motodev image overrights everything and takes you back to unrooted stock.
You will need to re-root to use titanium backup to recover apps etc.
Make sure if you use it you ONLY restore apps and not system apps & data or it will overwrite stuff.
I went back to stock with motodev and was on 3.1 within 30 minutes of starting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16510613&postcount=156 worked to reroot my MZ601 and leave 3.1 on it.
with usb mass storage watcher OTG Ican connect to hard drives etc as well as use all root apps
Thanks guys.
worked well for me
really appreciate your replies
I have thanked u individually.
cheers
