Now, if you're talking about your expandable memory card; yes, you will have to reformat it and depending on the ROM whether you will be opting for the user customization that came with many of the ROMs; but if HSPL; perform a Task 29 and reflash your ROM and you're done!

Task29 Clarification

OK...quick clarification on Task29...I've got HSPL3 on my phone, which I have used to load numerous ROM's at the moment, but I have NOT done a task29 before.
Really quick question, if I do a task29, does my HSPL3 loader get blitz and I need to reinstall that, or is all that there and I just jump straight into loading the new ROM.
That's about it.
Thanks!

Sweet!!
Let the games begin.
Thanks for the clarification.
Mods, if you want you can close/move this thread if you feel you need to.
Will Task29 later today and reinstall the latest Energy ROM and see if it cures my outlook synch issues.
LOVE the Energy ROM, just need my emails to work properly.
Cheers!!

Be sure to end your partnership before you flash, but if you have done this before , you may have to clean out activesync/WMDC and re-install it ..
Never had a problem on any custom rom with activesync/WMDC as long as I end the partnership before flashing ....
Think of it as a "format". I do it before loading any ROM as it seems to make sure everything was cleared out from the prior ROM.
I also suggest doing a hard reset before task29 and after flashing the new ROM. That should cover all bases

Returning to stock ROM

I'm getting a new phone hopefully within the next two weeks, and I'm going to be trading in my Magic. It's rooted and I've flashed to the 6.35 radio and 1.76 radio, so what do I do? Can I just download the official Sense UI from HTC's website and run that -- would that work? Or would I have to change my radio first or something?
Is it still under warranty? If so, you should return it to the ROM it was delivered with. Did you back your phone up with nandroid before you rooted it?

Assuming it has a 1-year warranty, it would've ended about a month ago. Yes, I have a nandroid backup of the original ROM, but do I need to change my radio/SPL or something to restore it?
Well, if it's no longer covered by warranty just leave it with the radio and spl you have now, but wipe your data and cache from recovery and reinstall your ROM. You could sell it with something fast and stable installed, with everything working - like an overclocked CursorSense Other than that, you should be okay.

how can you backup with nandroid BEFORE root?
Well, the way I rooted my 32A was use FlashRec to install a custom recovery and then flash the engineerings SPL from there, so I had the chance of doing my backup before I changed anything. Also, FlashRec makes a backup of your stock recovery image, which you can also flash back

[Q] Is it useful to format with task29 before installing a nand rom?

Hello to all ..
Every time I want to do a clean install of a NAND ANDROID ROM , I do the following steps:
1) format the memory with task29
2) flash MAGLDR
3) flash the NAND ROM
But my question is this: it is essential to format with task29 to make a clean install? Or do I just have to flash the rom using MAGLDR?
Thank you all ..
Not always necessary.
when flashing with DAF.exe in MAGLDR, it usually formats the partitions it created.

Well I Installed a few 3-4 without task29

Does Not seem to matter what method you use .. works fine both ways.

I know alot of people seem to think using Task29 is the way to go, but every time you install MAGLDR, CLOCKWORK, or a new rom the nand is re-partitioned, formatted etc so I see absolutely no benefit of Task29.
I might consider using Task29 if I decided to switch back to Windows, but why would I want to do that..

+1 Task29 serves no purpose since the nand is essentially scrubbed in the installation process.

Thank you very much. I understand that task29 with Android is useless.

Hi,
Yes and it is recommended to do task29 if you are changing to another rom or want to do clean install. When you do the update it is not needed.
So unlike flashing WinMo, in Android we do Task29 when changing roms. TnX for the help

It's honestly not *needed* 90% of the time. But for the few occasions where the ROM just isn't working right, then yeah, go ahead and do the task29.

Especially people who only flash a ROM every now and then should take the one minutes it takes to apply Task 29 in my opinion, because it can save you from a lot of hassle later on.
I basically do it before *almost* every flash just to be on the save side.

[Q] have to reflash ROM if i flash different rom will all my setting be there?

like the title says.
i tried to remove the clock on my lockscreen by replacing the font but now i'm stuck in the bootloop.
so i have to reflash my ROM right?
well if i use CWM and try to flash a different ROM will ALL my settings i used to have still be there?
or even when i do the same ROM won't i lose any progress in games and stuff?
if you just flash again without wiping anything, then yes everything will still be there, but so possibly might the problem.
Also, if you move to a different rom it may be more likely not to boot (but its worth trying before you wipe).
but my problem will be gone right?

depends on the problem and which partition it is on. When you flash from a .zip it just flashes the system and boot partition, so if teh problem is with some data that is held on a different partition, example an app sat in the ext partition on the sd card, or something in the userdata partition, then it will still be there. If however it is something on the system partition then it will have been removed.
try it and see what happens would me my first step. (but then it usually is)
well it was a file into the system folder
it's booting now and lets hope that it works
ok it works again but it looks like i lost everyhing...
it just booted up like it did when i flashed this rom for the first time..
is there any way i can get everything back or am i just screwed?
if you were using an sd card with an ext3/4 partition it should be on there, if you are using a tmous with the partition on nand then i guess you have lost it all
you dont mention what rom or device you are using
i have the NOT TMOUS so the 512 MB one with MDJ cyanogenmod7 2.6
