[Q] Powering up a Nook with broken power button - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dumb question:
How does one power up a Nook with an unresponsive power button when the Nook is turned off? Just plug it in the AC adapter?
Thought I would ask ahead of time since my power button is now completely unresponsive.

Red LED of death

Hey guys, today, whilst streaming music via bluetooth and connected to data, my phone suddenly froze and then turned off out of nowhere.
I'm running Franco kernel M1 and Paranoid Android March 18th or 21st build.
When not plugged in, attempts to turn it on by holding down the power button, or the power button + vol down, have completely no response - phone stays off and nothing happens.
When plugged in to a computer or to a power outlet, holding down power button or power button+ vol down, after approx 10 seconds, starts the LED flashing red. The flashing is erratic, and goes from steady to quick to steady again, etc. No charging symbols/google logos ever come up; screen is always blank.
I'm really worried my phone is bricked, any thoughts? Stock Franco voltage and clock settings.
You need to open the back of your phone up with a t5 screwdriver I think it is. Then unplug your battery and plug it back in. Or some people have left it plugged in over note and it turned back on. But a lot of success with the unplugging that battery method

Please also considering to use the official charger.
Don't worry, it's not bricked.

Don't worry.. Nowadays is even more and more difficult to brick a device..
As DownTownJeffBrown said, the most effective method is to unplug-plug the battery
Just experienced this red led of death this morning. Tried to launch bootloader which connected to my charger and the led just blinks red. After disconnecting charger, bootloader runs normal

Failing power button issue

I have had this phone for over a year and the power button is getting harder to activate. I also have a nook color, when I plug the nook up it powers on. Is there a way to have something similar on the mt4g? Power on through USB or charge. Thanks.

I dunno if it can with ADB. But what if you hold the volume down and power button to get into bootloader. How is you power button failing, can you get me a picture?
Could it be that your flex cable is getting worn out or just not actuating the power properly (ie. like with a microswitch, eventually the "springiness" of the switch won't properly let the microswitch activate) If you don't get what I mean, like the inside housing of this microswitch; http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f8/Microswitch.jpg
Based on this post it seems the mobo flex cable is what depressed an internal switch to turn the device/screen on and off. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591388
The last part of your post though, do you mean that you turn off the phone every night and turn it back on the next morning? Does this only happen when the phone is off and it acts normally when turning the screen on and off?
Well problem solved. I flashed the cwm touch 8.5 I think. Anyways it boots up into recovery when plugged in. I can live with that. I will miss 4xt. Thanks again guys n gals.

Forgive me if this sounds ignorant, but is this a common HTC issue? I own a Glacier and an HD7, and I've seen power button issues for both of them.
Well the issue was pressing the power button would do nothing 95% of the time and 5% would turn the device on. So, problem solved with the cwm touch recovery, except it boots in to recovery mode and is touch sensitive. That's good enough for me though. I just need to be careful when turning the device on.

i have the same issue with my phone...power button is completely broken..,
but i managed to map the search key (hardly use this button) with the power button using the button remapper found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464)
For reboot, i just connect it to any power outlet and it turns on into CWM touch recovery...
i can live with it until the next nexus..

If you feel comfortable opening up the bevel of the phone, you may want to check and see if the pieces of the power switch are still seated properly. I had a similar issue (which I wrote about here) that was entirely due to the pieces of the switch going off-center, making the button less responsive over time and eventually completely useless. The symptom was that the power button seemed to have less and less actuation to it.

My experience with it is at the bottom.

Power Button Cable Ripped

So I was trying to replace a friends digitizer screen and in the process of doing so I ended up ripping the power button ribbon cable. When I plug the phone in with the battery in the orange light signifying it's charging goes one which I assume is somewhat of a good sign. But I still have the problem of the power button not working. Is there anyway I can turn this phone on with the power button?

"Turn this phone on with the power button"
lol yeah sure just press it
Assuming that was a typo and you cannot turn it on; try to open adb then do "adb reboot"
Also I heard that when plugged in, the phone will boot into recovery if you are using CWM Touch (we have it on the dev section )
Hope I helped.

N7 Won't turn on or charge

So the other morning I wake up. I grab my tablet off the charger, click the lock button, and notice it was off. I figured it must have crashed overnight. I hold down the power button, and it doesn't turn on. I try again this time holding it down longer. It then turns on, but as soon as the lock screen shows up, the screen freezes and I can not do anything. I hold the power button down for an extended period of time, but it turns off and wont reboot no matter what. It wont charge (I assume), it isn't recognizable by my PC, and it won't turn on. I have no clue what happened. This happened randomly. I doubt it matters, but I'm running a CM11 based ROM (I think? Haven't changed it in a while, can't remember) and I have no clue what Kernel. I also noticed that the power button doesn't click as "nicely" (can't think of another word) as the vol. up and vol. down buttons. Could the power button be stuck? Any help or will I have to return it to my warrantor and start over? Thanks in advance.

My phone will not turn on at all.

My phone was working fine. I was running completely stock, but rooted with absolutely no changes to anything. I went to bed and woke up and I saw the green light indicating a full charge. However, nothing happens when I press the power button. It does not respond to anything other than a vibration when I press volume up and down, plus the power button. It doesn't even start to boot or make any sound. It does not respond to the charging cord either. Nor will it respond to ADB. Any ideas other than sending it to HTC?
Try holding power + volume down. The lights at the bottom should start flashing, I think mine flash 14 times and then I get a reboot. Maybe volume up instead but I think it's volume down.
Possibly your usb-c cord is bad. Try to charge it with another cord for a while and try what silverzero said. Hold volume down and power together for a min and see if you can get into recovery.
