Hello all,
I have the GT-N8013 (US Version), and decided I wanted to get Jelly Bean on it, since Samsung hasn't really said anything about an update for the USA.
I just flashed the German 4.1.1 ODIN last night as per this thread. I was under the impression this would not affect the binary counter or the firmware status. However, my binary count is now 2 (I've never flashed anything else), and the firmware status is Custom, rather than Samsung Official/Normal.
As such, I can no longer receive OTA updates for this device. I wanted to keep myself in a position where I could still get OTA updates one way or another.
I've seen things about changing the CSC, but I'm not sure I want to wipe the device, especially if I wouldn't be guaranteed to get OTA updates afterwards. (Or would it be guaranteed that OTAs would work if I changed the CSC to DBT...?)
What is the best course of action to get back to Samsung Official/Normal status (USA or German), or can it even be done?
(If I can't get back to Samsung Official, is there somewhere to download GT-N8010 German update.zip files, rather than the 1GB ODIN files?)
Thanks in advance for any help!
You'll need to root and then use TriangleAway to reset your counter. Then you can unroot and reflash official 4.1.1 from sammobile.com or just keep your root. Either way, you have to root to reset your counter. I recommend ExynosAbuse. As for OTA updates, you'll have to unroot and flash back to stock for that. To accomplish this, I recommend bypassing ODIN and using MobileODIN to flash, just in case the 8010 firmware is what tripped your counter to begin with... you know, cause you put it on an 8013.

Strange - Mine didn't do that for 4.11 or 4.1.2. It only changed when I rooted it. How are you checking that the Binary count is 2?

This will be because there is a mismatch between the devices CSC and the Firmware that is installed. You WILL lose all data if you wipe the device (Yes I've done it - No ROMS for UAE either)

Personally I'd wait a few days. JB is rolling out now, and I don't really believe that the US (8013) version will be that long behind the others. So if you can wait, then just download the 8013 JB ROM when it arrives, flash it with Odin and you will be back to official. I would tend to ignore the Binary count for now (see question above) and then fix it when you get the 8013 JB and your ready to go "Official"
Thanks for the replies!

I'm just looking at the information at the top left of the screen when the device is in download mode.
Thanks for pointing me to ExynosAbuse. That will definitely make life easier when I go to reset the binary counter!
I'll probably just wait to flash an 8013 JB ROM once one is available. The 8010 firmware doesn't have 5GHz WiFi support, which I use frequently.
Thanks for the advice!

That's funny. My 8013 on 8010 firmware works perfectly on 5 GHz wireless n.

Same thing happened to me. My counter is up to 2 now, one for the German ICS and one for the German JB.
My hypothesis is that you can swap ROMS within the same model - so any 8010 ROM works fine on any 8010 without upping the count, but that going between models (8010 -> 8013) trips the counter.
However, as far as I can tell, everything works fine except the ability to update OTA and it might even be better since you're getting the version that's not been modified for the US market to get past the legal issues with Apple.
The only iffy part is that you're going to be stuck relying on XDA for updates.. but to be honest, the gang here has been pretty reliable in that area for years.

I also installed the 8010 JB and now wi-fi direct between my GS3 and the Note doesn't work anymore.
I'm not rooted, will having the flash counter at 2, if I have an official rom flashed (and it says official in download mode), prevent me from getting an OTA?

WiFi issue are VERY common when flashing roms from different regions. Every country has different frequencies & bands that can be used publicly & in the UK & Germany, they differ from here in the US. If you change your CSC files in system to identify as an en_US device, or more precisely, change the line in the wifi config file from ccode=gb to ccode=ALL , you will then get 5Ghz. I have no issues with AllShare or WiFi direct, but I changed the wifi config files & edited the csc files to show XAR region with all wifi channels open (ccode=ALL).
BTW, there was an 4.1.1 region XAR leak recently, a few days ago I think. I am also pretty sure someone, maybe Darkman, released a deodexed version of it. There are also dumps of it in the Dev section of the Note 10.1 forums.

Did anyone else got these OTA update? I got it today (I am in India, have a GT-P3100). It just mentions "stability improvements" in the prompt before the OTA is applied. Things do seem a bit faster now.
One welcome improvement was this option to change the screenshot QuickLaunch softkey to other things like Applications/Search/Camera or get rid of it altogether. Anyone else found any extra tweaks yet?

I am rooted on a custom ROM, so of course I didn't get it, but those changes to the screenshot button are pretty awesome! At least Samsung listens to us... A little.
Checked samfirmware.com and saw 4 asian countries listed with this update to 4.0.4
Pretty fast update.. guess I'll have to wait here in the Netherlands

Can you crossflash P3113 to P3100?
To answer my own question yes you can crossflash 3113 to 3100 but the phone functionalities wont work (says no network)
Other than that everything seems fine.
did it have english language?
i want to download it from sammobile and flash it.
Yes it is English.
IR Blaster / Peel does not work though as the P3100 doesn't have IR Blaster.

I flashed it on my P3113. Peel complains it is incompatible (As the model number changed to P3100 which doesnt have Infrared)
Additionally there is a phone icon on the homescreen which P3113 cant really use (lack of hardware) although you can disable that.
Not perfect, I'd wait for a proper 4.0.4 for P3113.

For me using Kies wasn't necessary. I was using the device while connected to Wifi and it downloaded the update via OTA on its own and asked me to apply it. You may want to check "Update" settings to make sure OTA is enabled. FWIW, I also had a Samsung account setup (for Samsung Dive), not sure if that affects things.
just a quick question!
i got my tab2 P3100 (4.0.3) monday morning and saw the update notif, but dint update to 4.0.4, cos i wanted to check how good i was getting battery wise etc.
Will update probably this Saturday.
My question is will this 4.0.4 work on P1000? i do know that the arch is different, but since the update installs Peel w/o the India P3100 having IR, is there a possibility that this may work?
My device is rooted, ive downloaded the new fw through Ota, but when the system reboots it comes to cwm, how can i apply the update?

I updated to the german firmware using the odin method described in another thread and it worked great, didnt trip the counter or change the device status. Data and apps were intact. all and all I dont see any reason to not do it.
if you want the canadian release then you can simply install it over top the german one once it becomes available but I doubt that there will be much difference.
You might have to WIPE tho, since the German and Canadian ROMs have different CSCs.
Someone please confirm.

Using ROM's meant for other regions isn't an issue and a good way to get the lastest fixes and updated versions of s/w like S Note. The only reason folks in the U.S. had challenges was because they were using ROMs (N8010) not meant for their h/w (N8013). There's a N8010 4.1.2 ROM that just came out. You should be able to use it with no issues. When the Canadian JB ROM is released just install it (via Odin) over the German ROM and you'll be back to where you would have been anyway while being able to use JB in the mean time.
Here's the newest 4.1.2 N8010 JB ROM...
http://hotfile.com/dl/190513084/ece...GT-N8010-DBT-N8010XXUCMA5-1357980235.zip.html
Here's how to install it using Odin...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048213
Another thing Canadian users should be aware before updating is that, there is NO Official 4.0.4 Stock ROM to fall back to. So if you ever need to send the unit back to the shop (before a Canadian ROM arrives online), you're SOL.
This is on top of whatever issues flashing a ROM with a different CSC might cause.
I have the German rom on my Canadian note as far as I can tell there are absolutely 0 issues with having a different CSC. Although it's true that there is no official 4.04 I'm not very convinced that would be a problem in the event of a return I doubt any of the retailers in Canada would know enough to even check what firmware you have installed.
I can confirm that you do not have to wipe data your system status remains official.
Frankly I'm not even sure that installing an official rom would void the warranty even if it is from another region assuming of course you are installing an 8010 ROM on an 8010 device

No. The only file that's being updated via Odin is the PDA/MD5 file which doesn't affect user settings, apps, or what's stored on the device. Occasionally you'll see a widget break or disappear off the home screen because it’s been superseded by one with newer functionality. That's the only casualty I've experienced in bouncing between ROMs from different regions. You'll also see regionally specific things pop-up. The Italian N8000 ROM had a pasta eating game pre-installed on it. Some things don't work because of regional exclusions like the EU Video Hub knows when it's being used on a non-EU device. Those you can just disable in Application Manager.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 (International unlocked) and I have rooted it, and via Odin I have installed Android 4.4.2 (KitKat - it is the version from Poland since it has not been released for the UK yet). Everything is working pretty smoothly but Three has started sending out OTA updates which are needed in order to be able to receive 4G and I can not get the update because my phone has been rooted. To get around this problem this is what I have tried so far:
1: Contacted Three and asked them if they can give me the update in ANY other way, such as text, new SIM etc Three refused and said it is only available OTA.
2: Unrooted my phone by flashing my phone with the Kitkat ROM from Sam firmware taking it back to stock, but then when I search for updates, it says that my device has been modified. I know that SD cards can cause this problem so I removed the SD and rebooted but it was the same.
3: Did a factory reset, cleared partition/Dalvik cache etc then installed 4.4.2 - still says that my device has been modified so no update!
Is it possible that tripping my Knox counter (yes it has/don't care) can prevent OTA updates? I would have thought this unlikely?
Is it possible that Samsung is detecting that the version of Android that I am using, although official has not been released for this country?
Does anyone know where I can get the Three 4G OTA to install it manually? Would it be a case of flashing it with ODIN or is it a zip file?
Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

You won't need the OTA update as the XEO (Poland) firmware has 4G/LTE compatibility on it. You have to wait for Three to roll out your 4G properly, up until now unless you're in London it's only in test phase.
Poland 4G
Many thanks for that info. Will it work OK here though? Is it for same frequencies etc?
I am in London and they have started rolling it out to ordinary members of the public, people online have been saying that they have got it so it may reach me soon.

Hi, I am in a very similar situation. I too have a GN3 9005, also on threeUK network. I bought the phone from amazon.co.uk, so I dont have any three stuff on it. I am also rooted and flashed the leaked firmware and so far so good. I am also a bit worried that we might not get the 4G update if we are rooted. I am also waiting for the official firmware for UK model on samfirmware, hopefully if you flash that you should be on the correct track to receive the update.
Can I ask which file did you use to go back to stock? And did you boot into the official samsung recovery and did a factory reset/wipe cache ??
Maybe the solution to your question.
Let us know what happens.
Note 3 Three 4G Update OTA
Thanks for the post. I am trying some things now including your suggestion and I will let you know what happened once I finish.
I bought somebody's unwanted upgrade on O2. I then unlocked it and am now using my 3 PAYG sim.
Currently my network settings don't show 4G as an option either.
Does anybody know if I'll get the 3 OTA update, even though the phone is running an O2 stock 4.3 unrooted ROM?
since your device is rooted , why not just change csc version to your country
On the Polish XEO firmware (custom ROMs also) - I get 4G without any updates on Three and O2... my device status is custom and I've not had an OTA update since the day I bought my phone in Oct and It has been wiped and reset many times since.. So not sure why you cannot get it.
OK I think I have gotten to the bottom of this now
Right here goes:
1. Flashed clean Android 4.4.2 Kitkat official Polish ROM from SamFirmware. Tested OTA Update=Your device has been modified.
2. Rooted via CF Root and then downloaded Chainfire Triangle away (the latest version supports Note 3) then run it to reset flash counter. Please note that I did not reset Knox counter only the flash counter. Tested OTA Update=Your device has been modified.
3.Booted into recovery mode - did a wipe of cache partition, Tested OTA Update=Your device has been modified.
4. Booted back into recovery mode and did a factory reset, Tested OTA Update=SUCCESS! "You have the latest updates" message.
So...nothing to do with Polish ROM, everything to do with Flash counter on 0 and a factory reset using the default recovery.
So I hope this helps you all if you are in a similar position, however for me the main reason for me to be rooted is to have Nandroid backups via clockwork mod. Within 5 mins of the above I had re installed clockwork mod again and then used it to restore my phone exactly the way it was just before I started. The fact that there was no OTA means that I am going to just wait and see if my phone picks up 4G on its own since in network settings I have the option of LTE listed. If not then I now know exactly what I need to to to get the update but if I have to do it I will have to set up my phone again from scratch and I really cant be bothered so I am going to put it off for now.

Three 4G OTA Update on rooted phone
Spoke to Three looking for 4G update info and established that although an update from three is required for 4G, it is not an OTA update, it is via text message, so everyone with a rooted phone does not need to worry as long as 4G or LTE is selectable in the phone menu.
Lastly the text update is slowly being sent to all three customers with a 4G compatible phone between now and the end of March, so everyone should have it before April.
Cheers.

Yeah you'll get it.
Three 4G
In order to get 4G from three you must have 4G or LTE selectable in your phone settings plus the other text from three for settings.
The first one is via OTA update.
If you are rooted you may get it depending on how much your system has changed.
Personally I could not getget OTAs so I downloaded Android Kitkat 4.4.2 from Sammobile which also comes with LTE support. It worked for me.

Nightmare. I really don't want to root this phone. I've rooted every other phone I've had, pretty much as soon I've bought it and although the custom ROMs I've used have been pretty good, there's always been something that has not worked quite well enough with the odd bug here and there. The stock 4.3 ROM seems to be perfect at the moment - no bugs and decent battery life. Hence my reluctance to root and flash anything else.
Surely there must be a way to get the OTA without rooting?
The only reason I bought this phone was for the 4G. I'm beginning to regret it. Other than the LTE support, I honestly haven't seen any serious differences to justify upgrading to the Note 3 from the Note 2, which is an amazing phone. I'm wondering if I might just cut my losses and sell the Note 3, if I can't use the 4G.

I am considering rooting my Canadian (Rogers) Note 3 (SM-N900W8) in order to defeat the ludicrous SD-Card crippling brought by the latest Kitkat 4.4.2 software update. I'm aware that by doing so the Knox 0x1 counter will void the warranty. What I'd like to know is whether there are any additional negative results besides this well-known one.
For example I've seen inconsistent reports of the Screen Mirroring function being disabled as soon as the device is rooted. Some claim it is more related to the presence of a custom kernel, recovery or ROM, while others insist that merely rooting with everything stock was enough to disable screen mirroring.
If I do nothing more than use CF-Autoroot as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
...no custom recovery, kernel or ROM, do I risk any undesirable repercussions other than the warranty and Knox issue? Will screen mirroring or any other functions work worse than they did before?
Thanks for any help...
Rooting won't break any functionality of the phone except the security it was meant for i.e the secure container ( and of course, depending on who you ask, warranty ). Problems you mentioned are probably related to custom roms themselves.

Thanks for your reply... and will it also not interfere with any potential future over-the-air updates that might come along, be it a 4.4.3 update or a more trivial software patch to fix an issue that gets released? I realize that a major enough OTA update might un-root the phone which is fine.. I just wouldn't want to brick or lose access to updates because of root. Would they continue to be accessible, or would I likely have to first un-root manually to enable them?
Thanks again...
Yes you can not OTA update on the rooted phone.
You can unroot and apply the OTA update.
Or use the fake system status option in the Wanam.

Thanks... if memory serves (been a while for me since last rooted device) all that is necessary to unroot is to run the administrative option from within the Superuser app itself, to remove the SU binary completely.. correct? And then to re-root just repeat the previous CF-Autoroot steps and regain SU?

So all ROM and software updates are always made available directly from Samsung as flashable downloads, on the same day they're released to devices over-the-air? As a general rule?

Or you can open the app Phone INFO ★Samsung★, select menu 'Firmware Browser...' to see a list of available stock firmwares for your phone.
Tap to view firmware's details, there is also a download link. You can download it and then flash by Kies or Odin.

I've just installed the latest firmware for the TabPro 8.4; KOT49H.T320XXUBOC1. Disappointingly, it's still 4.4.2 which makes me wonder if we'll ever see a L-pop upgrade. I've only been running it for a half-hour or so but can't notice any difference. I'll report back if there any major problems.

IPTV or torrent tv, normally plays through mx player ?. Was a bug, half of the screen black

That firmware is just for the UK, which I believe went to NI1 last fall about a month before the U.S. went to NK1.
I don't know that I'd read a lot into it. If anything, they could be getting UK firmware better aligned with other locations for a smoother universal upgrade to 5.
Edit: Okay, looks like it's indeed out now for the U.S., too. Still hoping it's progress towards a Lollipop upgrade.
So does anyone actually know what changes this update brought? I was having some issues with my tab pro 8.4 missing touches, i 1st noticed it during gaming but was able to replicate it with display tester multitouch test.
It seems to be fine now, i thought for sure it was a hardware defect but now I'm not so sure. Anyone else in a similar position as me?
Hey there
I m downloading it, but not sure i will apply it .. does it makes root going byebye ? Wanna stay with my device rooted !
thanks
I just downloaded and installed in California. Still 4.4.2 no issues so far.

Rooted device? Able to root after update?

Just finished updating and was very disappointed that it's still 4.4.2, I didnt check this forum beforehand so was hoping for a nice surprise.
I hope we see official 5.0 for our devices...
Still. Nothing here! Will we ever get lollipop?

Without thinking I took the update and lost root. So, I'm searching to see if root is available for the update.

Thanks for the quick reply. Reading on the main page, did using the Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root trip the Knox Counter and the custom firmware counter?
thanks
A little bit less lag going from TW to Magazine tiles. Tried removing them with no luck. Hopefully this update sets us up for lollipop.

I'm in the process of trying to line up everything to do this. My update that pushed through took me to T320UEU1AOC1. I haven't located the extracted US kernel file for that and unfortunately don't know how to pull it from my current build. Sammobile has an AOC1 file noted as Cellular South and the build time is same date as mine but different timestamp. Anyone know if that would work to get me back to my current build and keep my US region?

Could you put the steps I need in order to what you did here?
I have the Romanian version of the updated ROM on a T325.
The biggest issue I have noticed is with the light sensor, with the previous ROM the auto setting worked smoothly, now with the new ROM the screen doesn't fade continuously. Whenever I turn on the screen the brightness just switches from a higher to a lower setting or inversely (without smooth fading and with lag), also the screen flickers horribly when it detects a change so I can't use the auto anymore.
The second issue is with the Samsung keyboard with learning disabled, in a Facebook floating chat window I tried to respond to someone and the keyboard would auto complete with empty words and after every word I had to delete the word before to be able to write the next word. I had to re-enable the learning to get rid of this very annoying problem.
I will try to downgrade to the previous ROM and root it with towelroot and say goodbye to any future official Samsung updates. Samsung has the ****tiest update developers, actually I had the same problem with the auto light setting (but not so serious) with the ROM which was before the good one.
By the way, if Lollipop comes DON'T UPGRADE. Lollipop on S5 sucks bigtime, the phone has major issues, android eats more battery than the screen.
Stick with the previous ROM, for me it was the most flawless one. I might try a cache wipe on the current ROM but I doubt it has anything to do with the screen flickering.

After losing root when I took the T320UEU1AOC1 update, I was able to flash the T320 kernel in this thread then use Towelroot again. I did have to reboot, even though it told me I wouldn't need to. I uninstalled and reinstalled SuperSU (hit cancel when I got the SuperSU notice about Knox) and verified root with Root Checker Basic. Then installed the AOC1 kernel. I still have root and Knox is not tripped. (KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0; KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0)
