Affiliate / Shortened URL's wont work? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Nexus 4 I have a few apps which display shortened URL's and everytime I click on them my browsers never are able to open them, even though the links are perfectly fine because I can open them on my desktop and they work.
i've tried it in browser, chrome and even dolphin HD and neither of them will open, does anybody else have this issue?

[Q] links from non browser apps don't open in browser

hi,
I came across a weird problem. I don't know if it happened after an app update or what, but when I try to open links in non browser apps, the browser never opens, the screen dims like its trying to open a new app, but it never does. I have to press back or home to get out of it. I tried checking all my apps to see if the wrong program had hyper links as an incorrect default but I found nothing. I use dolphin browser HD and I'm using the Prime ROM. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Fixed it. Reinstalled Dolphin and now it works.

Dolphin Browser stopped working, can't connect

On Tiamat 2.1.0. I was happily using Dolphin Browser HD 6.2.0 until around 2 days ago, when it suddenly stopped connecting. It wouldn't connect to any domain anymore (stock browser works just fine).
So I uninstalled it with the intention of downloading + reinstalling it from the market. Guess what, it's not even showing up in the market! I guess either the makers of Dolphin or Google are hiding it for Honeycomb.
What I did find was Dolphin Mini though, for some reason, so I decided to give it a shot instead. Well, it has the ssame problem Dolphin HD had: it won't connect at all.
I'm stumped at this mess. I tried to find a Dolphin HD apk but didn't want to download just any mysterious file from anywhere. But above all, I have no idea why Dolphin (both HD and Mini) would stop working all of a sudden.
The only change I can remember doing before it stopped working was to update a few apps, including the Opera browser. I don't see how that would affect Dolphin though.
Any ideas, anyone?

Tried Firefox 17 & 18 Beta, both as you say crash after a few seconds, not really bothered though as I use Dolphin (v8.5.1) with Flash support, works great, I have Chrome as well but don't use it as I prefer Dolphin's settings etc.
Bug 791419 - Firefox for Android crashes on start on Kindle Fire HD 7"
Thank you for the feedback. Looks like Bugzilla has a report on the bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=791419
Bug 791419 - Firefox for Android crashes on start on Kindle Fire HD 7": Couldn't get a handle to libmozsqlite3.so
Since Mozilla is aware of the Bug we may be able to see the Firefox on the Kindle Fire HD 7" at some point.
Chrome Bata
I did find Google Chrome and have provided a download link for your testing: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/chrome.apk. Looks like it will not support the Flash Player plugin I just installed. Also, it also has the same behavior as my desktop version of Chrome. Crashes under heavy load. Although it is a fast browser.
Firefox nightly works just fine.

Gilly10,
Thank you for the post, I will test Aurora.:good:
I just tried Boat Browser and I was really impressed.

What browser are you using and why

Tried dolphin browser which has long been my favourite due to desktop mode. But it's been very laggy and stuttering to use on my note 4,as compared to note 3. Can you please share what browser you prefer on the note 4 and why?
I have Dolphin for flash when I need flash,
other than that I use the touchwiz browser because it allows scrolling when hovering the spen at the top and bottom of the screen when chrome doesn't
Chrome has been fine for me. No problems whatsoever.

I'm using Firefox and it doesn't seem laggy. Am I wrong?
Chrome:
- reliable
- password sync
- tab sync (which I use a lot between my Android, desktop and ios devices)
- formats websites perfectly
EDIT: I actually run both Chrome and Chrome beta, each with separate google profiles, and it works wonderfully.
For me dolphin was all round the best. Sadly until they update it it's pretty much useless on note 4. I agree the default browser is best for browsing at the moment with no lag.
Firefox, because I can long-press on an image and share it to Hangouts without having to download the image.
Chrome is the best all round browser IMO

Dolphin had an update a few days ago and after updating and turning of java script under settings. It's usable now but had to turn of java script and also set flash to be on demand instead of on always.
I'm tired and just use Chrome. It syncs across all devices and home computers. And now that Amazon deemed android worthy of prime video I'm finally finding flash less important.

Opera Beta has text reflow when resizing and a menu along the bottom of the screen, which is good for one-handed operation of a phone with such a big screen.
What's the best browser for flash? I like to watch sports with adthe.net and can't find a browser that work

Thx i may return
I used to be on Dolphin but it's so laggy... Right now I'm using Chrome. They get you hooked because it's most likely your desktop/laptop/tablet browser and it syncs everything....
Opera Next.
Fast, reliable.
Chrome was slow on note 1. Yes it is faster on note 4. But opera is even faster.
Really need a browser that allows desktop view to load always, been using Dolphin but it has been annoying me as it has bugs. Firefox doesn't have tab view like in Chrome or Dolphin. Chrome doesn't have always desktop which is ridiculous as it came installed on my note 12.2, also it's bookmark area just sucks. UC browser HD doesn't work with SwiftKey as auto correct is non existent for some reason. I've tried others, all the popular ones and each one has some usage breaking quirk. I need a browser with desktop view and sync bookmarks and unfortunately I have been forced to use Dolphin for years as its the most complete package out of them all.
One that I've previously used was opera on my LG g2 and it was decent. Just at the time the sync feature was in future plans. Might try it again when I recieve my note 4

Is there a Web Browser for Nexus Player?

Just got a Nexus Player and am trying to find out if Chrome works on it. I searched the Play Store but do not find Chrome.
So I searched here and someone said to try Dolphin Browser but I cannot find that either.
Can you surf the web with a browser on a Nexus Player.
I have a keyboard with mouse/touchpad so I won't have any issues there.
Chrome works just fine, I'm still running v5.1.1 .
Although you have to side load the application you can't get out from play store.

If you go to Google Play from a computer, you can remotely install it to your Nexus Player
EDIT: The reason it is grayed out for me is because I already have it installed. It will allow you to select it if you haven't downloaded it to it yet
Maybe a silly question, but how do you turn it on?
I am using voice command as I do not have a shortcut or the "open" option in the app, but it's there another way?

Use Sideload Launcher. Since Chrome isn't intended to be used on Android TV, It won't show up. You can get Sideload Launcher here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en
