Would it be possible to run ubuntu for android on the kindle fire?
I know it requires a HDMI output and stuff, but we could hack it to use VNC.
What do you think?

There is already a Kindle app in the Market. If you have Amazon Prime you should be able to use that to access the lending library.

The kindle app doesn't have that option, only the one that comes with the fire other other kindle devices....
Ugh, so annoying. I want to take agvantage of my prime membership on other devices.
Defy Multitouch Enabler
This is a Kindle Fire forum, not Motorola Defy. We have multitouch already
???????????????
The Fire supports only two multitouch points, as the title says.
This app won't install on the Fire though.

Oh, sorry for posting this useless thread.
Yeah. I realize the kindle has no camera. Or mic. So is it possible to hook up a webcam or something similar to my kindle fire in order to make it capable of video chatting and taking photos and such? Thanks.

I don't even know if android even supports external hardware like that, let alone the Kindle Fire

You already answered most of your question. Next time search for "video chat" under the KF forums and see if you get a result. If none, then your answer is "no," it does not support video chatting at this point in time.
I did check the forum first -_____- so thank you anyways. Sucks it wont work.

There may not be a camera, but it appears people have mics working on the KF so you could probably use Skype to voice chat at least.

I would think that eventually someone would start working on usb-related external options?
Alright thank you all. I was just curious.

Hey all,
I have the wired kindle app and it used to work great on my nook running cm9 but now force closes on the n7. Anyone know why and how I could fix it?
Thanks.

apps designed for the kindle fire will not work with the Nexus 7. there is no way around this.
you can install the amazon app store and install apps from their, but kindle fire apps will not work.
Can I ask why?
Would it work on a custom Rom? For instance once cm10 is released, couldn't it work then?

incredibly unlikely.
The kindle fire uses an insanely customized version of android like the Nook Color and apps that are made specifically for those devices won't work on any other version of android.
In some cases they can work on other devices, such as the amazon video on demand app which can work on a nook color running CM7, but it won't work on any device not running android 2.3 and on a 1024x600 resolution.

That's weird because it was working fine on my nook color running cm9.
Maybe if the new kindle comes out at a higher resolution and the woods are optimized for that...then maybe that'll work.
Thanks for your help.

as i said, the Amazon VOD app worked on the nook color because it was the exact same version of android and the same resolution.
Any other variant and it won't work. Now yes the new kindle fire will have a larger resolution. but there it could be the same situation. same android version + same resolution otherwise it won't work.
What about our devices? Is possible to get Ubuntu Touch for tablet to our (capable running CM 10.1) ? It would be very nice to be able to run android or ubuntu, and buy the dock and have a full computer.
Hope it is not a duplicated post
I am also interested in knowing about installing Ubuntu on the Nook HD+. My understating is that the stable version will not be released until next year.
