No landscape-modus - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello folks,
i just flashed my htc hd2 with this rom made by tytung http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1930240.
i am a real noob to that matter and it is my first device that i flashed and it took me a hole of information gathering but finally i made it.
it is working really great, but i have one problem: the landscape-modus is not working.
i have activated it, but is isn't working automatically.
did anyone have the same problems?
thank for your help!

It may be something to do with the settings for each individual app, but if you have auto-rotation enabled then I don't see why it shouldn't work. Did it work on WinMo?

Maybe you mean landscape in the launcher? If yes, you need to activate it manually because it comes deactivated by default.

I have activated autorotate in the display-settings and it isn't working. for example, when i'm in the browser and flip my phone...nothing happens and i didn't change anything in the browser settings...

It was working with WinMo 6.5 and with WPM 7.8....

maybe your sensor needs calibration...download "SensorDebug" from store...open the app...put your phone on the grund and check pitch and roll values...if the values are zero then you are fine...if not check this out...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653251

Total Rotation... (hack/app request)

Any devs out there wanna give this a go?
I would love to be able to rotate my phone in any direction and have the screen flip like on my omnia... I know sense doesn't flip to landscape, thats not a prob, what I really want is to be able to flip the phone upside down and still use it as the correct rotation.
Reason I want to be able to do this is so I can use my phone in the cup holder of my car again, and to do this it must be upside down because of the charger placement... (same as on my Omnia)
Seems a pretty simple request, would be nice if it could auto run and run in the background without using up to much resources to.
If anyone is able to do this, would be awesome.
Thanks
Seconded ... but
I too would like to be able to rotate at least the other way; when showing off the Incredible, people rotate to landscape the other way and nothing happens, so they figure it doesn't rotate. I have to say "no turn it the other way" but it would be great to just not have to think about it.
BUT ... regarding the OP ... I simply took a dremel to the dash mount I bought (the beanbag, since California law doesn't allow sticking to the window in the middle). Carved out enough for a charger, and am done with it
I'd also like to see this. Anyone know the reasoning behind only allowing landscape mode by rotating to the left, and not the right? Even my old BB storm could handle rotation in both directions.
Agreed. This would be useful.

I would think it's because the majority of the world is right-handed and by rotating to the left, the optical track button is on the right side. I could complain because I'm left-handed, but hey at least my phone still has a signal when I hold it in my left hand, unlike other phones out there
This is an option in the cyanogen rom available in the rom manager. If you can look past the few bugs in the rom you can enjoy the 360 degree rotation you are looking for.

My phone aint even rooted yet, for some reason I've tried everything and won't allow me to get into adb recovery... anyways, if it's in another rom, it must be possible, if someone could make this an app!! it would be awesome.
Then we wouldn't have limits as to which rom we would have to use.
...just a thought...

[Solved] G-Sensor disabled kernel

Hello,
I'm looking for a g-sensor disabled kernel.
Kernel developers, please make a gsensor disabled kernel, i don't need it, i don't use it.
It causes screen freezing.
To prove it, you can download this sensors application.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.julian.apps.Sensors
Run it and rotate/shake/etc. your HD2 rapidly. Screen will freeze and sensor graph on app will stop.
-----------------------
Edit:
Shadiku has released a g-sensor disabled kernel:
The freeze problem has totally gone, but of course g-sensor does not work.
shadiku said:
Okay, I've been wanting to do this ever since I got my HD2. (which was 8 days ago.)
This is a G-Sensor disabled kernel built on the latest git commit (Sat, 28 Aug 2010 17:37:26)
As far as I can tell there are no freezes and the G-Sensor does not work at all.

You can disbale it urself right? Just put auto rotate off.
Disabling auto-rotate won't disable the g-sensor.
It won't solve the screen freeze problem.
I want g-sensor driver totaly disabled.
if it is disabled, no1 can test it so how will the devs know they have got it working?
unless u intend for the devs to keep trying it themselves with no help from fellow hd2 users... :-/
I can reproduce the problem easily just in a second.
This is enough to solve the problem for developers. They couldn't expect any more information from us about this issue.
errm.. so, did u send in a kernel log to the devs?

And I want several levels, so if you are not able to build that in one box, so you have to make several boxed, one for each level...

You (and I and the rest of us) are not able to give them enaugh help to solve that problem. Or why do you think one of the main problems are not solved?
Yeah... Really nice... And you guys from turkey are wondering why many germans don't like peoples like you?
You're acting like a little child...
I'm waiting for the day one of the main developers say that he won't work further on this project because we are not showing enaugh repect to their efforts.
I am not able to write software in C or C# or whatever they use...
I am only an AutoIt "script kiddie"...
So I have try to solve the problems my way (and it seems to work).
Take a look at the GIT shortlog. The part "htcleo: fixed AC charging problems" is a result of my efforts to fix that problem... I've write an E-Mail to Markinus with my detailed observations and how I fixed it temporarily. And a few minutes later he found a mistake in the source and released his changes...
I don't say "disanle the AC charging" (because it was working via USB)...
Maybe you should work a little bit more on the G-Sensor problem...
Try to disable the G-Sensor in Windows (its possible), play with the polling intervals. Maybe there are also some values in Android to change the polling interval to the G-Sensor and report your results... Maybe its to high or to low and that causes the problems...
I don't know it either... But you won't die on some attempts...

You can play by using G-Sensor enabled kernel.
For the people who won't use g-sensor, there should be disabled kernel.
Got it? This is not hard to understand.
Making g-sensor disabled kernel couldn't be too hard for developers.

Workarounds on mass
Hey OP, your point is moot. I use a kernel from michyprima, and have not experienced freezes in a long time. I've disabled autorotation cause I don't like it, yet I play many games (Abduction, NFS Shift, Labyrinth ...) which use it.
The only problem is that the g-sensor can't be calibrated, and is off by 10 degrees or so.
For the record, my base is kwbr 4.1 COM3 WinMo + darkstone's HD2Froyo 2.1. I just copied in the new kernel files (root, zImage and modules).
I also use kernel from michyprima, I disabled autorotate, calibrated in WINMO, but always when I walk, the HD2 just don't react, which is very annoying. It also seems, that the CPU load is very high when this happens - which can lead to poor battery life.
Don't take this as a complain, as I know the developers are doing their best to fix this.
I'm prepared to test a new kernel as soon as it is out..., but in the mean time I would be thankful for a kernel with the disabled G-sensor.

I would do if I could, that's what I'm asking for from developers on this topic.
look, if the g-sensor is disabled, no one will get to test it, and it will never EVER be fixed because NO ONE will feedback to the devs where, when and how did the freeze occured..
It is g sensor problem for sure ,nothing else ,I have been two weeks testing different procedures and apps and it is for sure the g sensor problem ,I don,t know how it is related to the digitized ,but it is the cause of freezes. By the way disabling auto rotate doesn't disable g sensor ,it only disabled the auto rotate function not the g sensor

(Tip) Disable proximity sensor

When my wife got the Aria a couple of months ago, she loved it, and I figured I had finally brought her successfully into the age of smartphones. Now, she HATES it. The reason: The awful proximity sensor, that keeps turning the screen on while she's on the phone, resulting in her cheek hanging up the phone, or making calls while she's on a call.
I actually said to her "Just don't hold the phone that way", before laughing about making an iPhone 4 reference.
There has to be an app to disable the sensor, or configure it differently. I want her to love her phone and get back to playing Angry Birds.
Does your wife hold the phone in an unconventional way? I've never had any problems with the proximity sensor activating when the phone is placed to my cheek.
I hold my phone in my left hand with the speaker pressed close to my ear (the proximity sensor is in the top right corner of the phone) with the microphone end pulled ever so slightly from my cheek. If I want to check your phone, pull your phone from your ear horizontally from pull it down to view the screen.
As for settings, I would try this one:
Go to Settings > Call Settings > Always use Proximity and UNCHECK this option. I feel like this gives better results in regards to the sensor.
*Please note this setting is found under Cyanogenmod 7, and I'm not clear if this is found under the standard HTC Sense ROM.
Note:
Make your wife try hitting the LOCK button as soon she dials her number and hits talk. This should lock your screen and disable the proximity. (Again, im running Cyanogenmod 7 so i dont know if this is true for HTC Sense)

She holds it in the normal way, but since the sensor is on the top right, far from the speaker, and she has a tiny ear, she'd have to hold it in an unusual way to make it work.

Do you mean the power button? In that case, it definitely doesn't work in the stock ROM. I'm glad to know there's a setting in Cyanogenmod, so worst case I'll flash that. I didn't want to get her involved with flashing, since it isn't wife-friendly, but the poor proximity sensor placement, combined with the just stupid move of the Android devs assuming no one would need such a simple feature, isn't wife-friendly either, so I might as well.
I don't understand how on a phone this small, you don't immediately assume that you will have users smaller than average, and assume smaller ears. The sensor on my Rhodium is WAY closer to the center line, and it's more suited to bigger people.
I experience the same damn thing as well - it's annoying!!
I mostly have an issue with hitting the "Hold" button. What I did to fix this was to make the phone "left-handed" which moved the "Hold" button to the right-side and it seems I'm less likely to cheek-press it anymore.
This doesn't solve the issue with hitting the End Call button though. The funny thing is, is that it's hard to replicate too! I can literally hold the phone like 1cm away from my head and the screen won't come on - but once in a blue moon I will slightly adjust the phone on my ear while walking/driving and BAM - CALL ENDED! FRACKING ANNOYING!!!!
I have the opposite problem. I can't gang up without a fight to wake the phone up.

you need root and s-off for do this, and maybe custom recovery. read forum to know how to edit system partition on your phone. i can't write step-by-step manual becouse i don't speak in english =(
Sombody in the know this would be a sought after task.
I, like fmac, would appreciate if someone could give a step by step of how this procedure is done. I'm an Android user but HTC's are a little more touchy then what I'm used to. Rooting is not an issue for me, but whomever writes this up, may want to supply a link on that step for the folks just coming here for the first time. ARIAs have been out for a while and this problems fix is probably going to be heavily sought after.

A shame since I was just getting used to it and how to gesture it on and off.
This seems to be a Samsung issue rather than a carrier fault.
(mine is unlocked and in use on AT&T)
Would it be advisable to contact Samsung directly?
Go to Settings>Device>Accessibility, and check under "Services". Having apps turned on there can break the one-handed function.
I have NiLS for lockscreen notifications, but it seems to run fine even when the service permission is turned off.

Bingo! Thank You barnabydog!
The good news: It worked! I turned off the offending app and I'm back in business!
The bad news: The offending app was Pebble (smartwatch)
A feature that is more useful to me than the one handed mode . . .
So then is this the sad state of affairs? I have to choose between my Mini-screen mode and my smart watch?
How did you know about this barnabydog?
is there another thread that discusses this issue?
Yes, but I was too lazy to search for it.

But you can still turn off Video Calling in call/settings, but can't get turn AC off completely unless you backtrack the MOD. Was a PITA tracking down what was taking AC away from settings menu and turns out to be this one single edit lol

AC = auto call? I can still turn it off and on without it crashing, but haven't tested if it actually disables if I uncheck it.
Flying home tonight. So I'll check then.

AC = Advanced Calling, sorry.
I think misunderstood my question.
So with customs ROMs I have ran into an issue where I lost the Advanced Calling and Tethering options in Settings menu (see attached screenshot). I finally after way too many hours, tracked the problem down to this one MOD (I had to find if it was from an app I was editing, then down to edits in the system, finally found it was in the customize folder and then in ACC/default.xml and even in there took forever as I had many changes). As soon as I make the edit and reboot they are gone, make edit back to stock and they show.
Everything still works fine - in regards to Advanced Calling, HD Calling and Wi-Fi Calling but those settings menu options just aren't there to turn on and off. I can get to an option to turn off Video Calling (see 2nd attached screenshot) which then leaves it into HD Calling state.
What I do as a workaround is keep a default.xml.bak with this MOD removed if I ever need to get into the options for w.e reason and they are only a reboot away.
Not the biggest problem, but very strange indeed. I made the same edit on M8, but M9 as well and never ran into this issue.
I was wondering if you had this issue as well after doing this MOD.

Ahhh. No I don't have that anymore. I think I never noticed it before the change so I was really confused on what you were talking about.

No problem my friend, I appreciate your feedback.
I couldn't figure out why it was missing and tracked it down to this one edit. Very weird. You should try setting it back to 2 value and reboot and see if Advanced Calling comes back.

Thanks for the directions on this @andybones - Verizon's constant wifi notification nag drives me nuts.
Just applied this to @santod040's Nougat stock rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...m-1-85-605-9-aroma-root-root-debloat-t3529732) and it appears to continue to behave as you expect: lost the Advanced Calling and Wifi Tethering options out of the Settings menu. I can still get at the tethering via the sub-menu 'Mobile network sharing' as well as the quick settings pane so good to go. Too bad this even has to be a thing. #&$*#&$ Verizon

Very welcome. I know of another method to remove the WiFi Nag and still keep the Menus correctly in Settings. It's actually a method that we used on the M8 if I recall correctly. The current method posted here was what we used on the M9, and strangely had no affect to Settings Menu, even though the M9 also has Advanced Calling. I remember testing this method out a little bit ago on the 10, and all was fine. However to be sure, I am posting a .zip with the edited .apk and a .zip with stock, to go back to stock, and also if anyone wants to see what was done. Simple edits of removing 10 .png images.

Thanks, will give this a shot next time I'm digging around in the guts of this thing. Much appreciated.
