[Q] nexus 7 3g confirmed working on 850mhz? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am having a strange problem with my nexus 7 3g. I am in Thailand trying to use 3g on the truemove-h network. I have read that in some areas here the 2g/3g service operates on 850mhz.
If I put my sim card in an iPhone it shows the 3g icon and data works OK. However if I put the sim in the nexus it actually shows that I am roaming and I can't access data even though I have enabled the roaming option.
I have previously used this sim in the nexus successfully in other parts of the country but I think it was using a different frequency.
So my question is can anyone confirm that they have used 3g on the 850mhz frequency?
I have done obvious things like checked APN, balance, etc.

Hi , You can use 3G 850Mhz with Asus Nexus 7 3G 32GB too. Now I use Nexus 7 3G wit Truemove-H. You have to set up APN ,before you are going to use internet with your device.
1. go to Setting
2. go to Wireless and Network
3. choose Mobile Networks
4. Select Data Roaming too.
5. choose Access Point Name
6. click 3 Points on the bottom
7. select New APN
Set as following
Name = TrueH Internet
APN = internet
Username = true
Password = true
MCC = 520
MNC = 00
Authentication type - PAP or no need to set is ok.
APN type = default
select back , will be saved automatically.
Enjoy your Nexus 7 3G in Thailand.

[Q] Question about 3G network (WCDMA)

Hi all,
I'm struggling to get data connection over the 3G network, even though I've got a data plan and the settings seem to be on point.
I'm based in Dubai and I've got a Middle East tab (garbage as the firmware excludes the Android Market), so I've flashed a recent Euro firmware (JIP was the build if I recall)
When I go into network settings to choose 2G/3G/Auto, it shows me GSM and WCDMA as the choices. I'm pretty sure before the flash, it showed GSM and WCDMA. Is WCDMA the same as HSDPA?
The problem could be with the carrier, but I'm troubleshooting at the moment and this WCDMA is a bit confusing.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Have you checked your APN settings? Chances are that the Euro firmware doesn't have the APNs "pre-installed" for your carrier(s). The good news is that you can add them in manually if this is the case.
Regards,
Dave

If your display shows a 3G or H type signal, then your problem is a bad APN setting.
WCDMA is 3G and H on your display, if you have that then you're in good shape.
Search the net or the carriers website for the the correct setting, then create a new APN and data will instantly start to flow.
It was missing the apn setting. Justed typed it in manually and Im hooked up. Although i was bamboozled for a little while as the H didnt apear until i had turned off the wifi.
Thanks for all ur help guys.

[Q] HSPA

I am a noob to the world of android phones (as an owner) however I have an android tablet. Currently i am warming up to android so i purchased a Samsung Galaxy Y. I am currently in Jamaica and the provider I had purchased the phone from is a 2g, 4g provider knowing i could not legitimately get 4G I was given a 4G none the less but my phone would say H during data transfers, I have never tested the speed though. My internal memory was full and after hours and days of trying link2SD and other programs to create a psedo-extended internal drive i decided to try Creeds rom V4 however it was a memory hog and i decided to try another ROM, this caused my phone to "brick" i was able to unbrick itexcept now i am seeing E for my data transfers instead of H. I have no HSPA menu since noticing that i have tried several other ROMs and stock OS however none gave me back the H please help :'(

[Q] 4 G LTE and 3G not working on Yureka

hi,
i bought a yureka, everything is great. its just that i'm unable to use 3G or LTE on my device.
it always shows edge. on my device. and runs 2G
in mobile networks preferred network type is LTE. and i have LTE service in my area.
on phone info *#*#4636#*#* By default the preferred network comes as LTE/GSM auto(PRL) and network type shows EDGE.
i have tried changing the preferred network to WCDMA preferred, then radio on/off, still network type shows as EDGE.
i have unlocked the boot loader and then flashed the modem (NONHLOS.bin) from Rohan A joshi thread in XDA yu yureka.
still im unable to use 3G or LTE.
the SIM is perfectly fine, if i put the SIM in some other phone like iphone, everything works fine.
can someone please help me i will be thankful.
Try WCDMA Only

no idea, im also still waiting for any reply
Partial solution found.... On LTE sim slot i. e. Sim no. 1 using *#4636#*#* and then select wcdma will change the network to 3g.
But 2nd sim the wcdma option not activate.
Same problem for me too
I'm also facing the same problem. Selecting WCDMA only option is not working. It always comes back to GSM only mode. End result no 3G and hence no internet. Only whatsapp is working. Should I ask for replacement. 10 days is not over for me yet..
Finally 3G actually work on YUREKA
Finally after lots of hit and trials I got solution.
Two things you need to do.
First
a.select default type as WCDMA only
b. enter *#*#4636#*#* from keypad.
c. Go to Phone Information and turn off radio.
d. Now select WCDMA only and click on turn on radio
Second
Delete ur APN settings and set the setting manually as per
your service provider. search setting on google.
Finally MY YUREKA WORKING ACTUALLY ON 3G NETWORK
Note : Preferably do all settings on SIM 1 inserted in LTE slot
WCDMA only
I did that. Fortunately this time I'm able to select WCDMA only. Device started working in 3G. Now when I go home, again 3G is gone.
Did that selecting WCDMA only again. 3G is back.
Every time I need to do this like selecting data connectivity/Wifi. I'm getting sick of this. Unfortunately 10 days period is also over
Finally 3G working..
Hey Guys,
If anyone here still facing problem with the 3G connection.
Deactivate your Mobile Data Connection.
Try going to APN setting remove the Proxy Value and Port Value then Save it.
Finally, activate your Connection.
Its working for me.
This is not a bug
check on forum
that problem of APN

hello,
i dialed in *#*#4636#*#* and got that menu the first time i turned off radio and selected wcdma only and turned on radio then rebooted.
i dont know why but it says no network available.
so i changed it back to lte/gsm after switching off radio and then switched it back on. i got the network back still on 2g.
but now everytime i reboot it goes back to wcdma only and no network available..
how do i make lte/gsm the default network so that i dont have to keep switching networks when my phone boots up

I have had this problem too in a while. But I guess it go resolved somehow.
First there is SIM 1 which is only good enough to run 3G or LTE networks.
I tried a lot to run it.
Sometimes switching on and off the airplane mode gave me the 3G connection.
Not sure about LTE, the national capital still doesn't support LTE.:good:
Give it a try!
Guys first of all you need to know that only SIM 1 supports 4G LTE.
and both sim slots supports 3G but you need to get activate 3G Services on your number.
i am using 3G of Aircel and its working fine for me(Sim2).

I just changed to WCDMA only and 3g started working.
My issue was 3G will work for a day then changes to 2G. Then I have to remove the sim and change slot for 3G to work. Will wait and see how long this will remain 3G.
Good 2 know

Hey Anurag, Can you please post the APN details of Aircel that you have on the Yureka? I have tried that *#*#46 etc and changing SIM from SIM1 slot to SIM2 slot. No difference. Still on EDGE.
Thanks,
Kiran.
Setting as mine:
Name: Aircel
APN: aircelgprs
MCC: 405
MNC: 810
APN type: default,supl
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
if still not working go to your nearest aircel service station..

Thanks Anurag. There was some issue that even though it was same setting that I had, I still could not get 3G. Anyway, I upgraded to Lollipop and the problem has been resolved. Now I can get it to work on 3G Speed itself. Same APN "aircelgprs".

T-Mobile MMS Fix over 4G LTE

I have heard that people using the MT7-L09 version of the Ascend mate 7 are having issues sending MMS Messages over Cellular network and the only way you can make and receive them is over Wi-Fi. Well the issue is Really common on Internationally unlocked cellular phones and the issue is really simple to fix. The problem resides in the APN Settings. When you pop in your T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card, the device sometimes sets up a Automatic APN Set up within the device. Sometimes, when the device does this, it puts down incorrect or old values. Now to the fix.
GO into Settings. Under Wireless & Networks tap More, then tap Mobile Network, and then Access Point Names. Under general you will see a already preseted APN called T-MobileData and under MMS something called T-MobileMMS. If you click the "i" next to the T-MobileData APN you will see that there is nothing set under the MMSC. To add the MMSC value just tap the value and type in http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
After that tap OK then go down to APN Type and make sure default, supl, mms, hipri, dun is displayed. If not, add in the missing values. Make sure that mms is included in the APN Type or MMS Messaging will NOT work. Just for future proofing Make sure you APN Protocol is set to IPv4/IPv6 as set with the latest LTE phones.
Once done select OK and then Save at the bottom. Once done make sure to Select the APN Radio button you just edited a couple of times. You may see your Data connection go out and then show 3G/H/H+. This is normal as it is refreshing settings. Let your phone sit up 5 minutes or until 4G Shows up. Once it shows up, hop into the Messaging app and try sending a MMS message to yourself and you should be able to send and receive it without wifi over 4G LTE.
Those on AT&T, the same fix applies, but with your specific Carriers's APN Settings
Just to let you guys know and other friends, if you ever get on a AWS band (3G/H/H+) and you have NO data connection and your carrier is T-Mobile, this is because T-Mobile has shut down (Or will be shutting down and removing) all AWS band antennas from their towers to make room for new Cat. 6 Carrier Aggregation. So if you get the MT7-L10 version (which is the 3GB RAM Non-LTE version) the AWS bands probably won't work with it and you are stuck with using 2G EDGE as data. This goes for ANY phone that relies on one of Many AWS bands to get 4G Speed internet. For more info on this, check out http://www.tmonews.com/2015/06/aws-hspa-t-mobile-markets-shutdown-dates/

(UK) Help with understanding Dual SIM

Hi all,
First time playing with dual SIM ad think Im missing something easy here.
I use GiffGaff (£5/m) and barely ever use data. Saw an offer from Voxi (Vodafone) for a 6GB data SIM. Grabbed one thinking I could use it as a second SIM just for data so I have a constant connection and a SIM I can move between devices where needed (MiFI, tablet etc, why I went with a second SIM rather than a different plan on my primary GiffGaff SIM)
Put the Voxi SIM in my Redmi, setup the APN and was greeted by the 4G symbol with the cross in the lower corner (no network connection but calls and texts work)
Now this is where Im getting confused. From what I can gather, only one SIM can be 4G while the other SIM will drop to 2G.
How do I go about setting this up correctly?
I do not need 4G speeds on the Voxi SIM as I only really need a constant connection, just enough to ping a few emails and Whataspp/Telegrams around.
Both GiffGaff and Voxi/Voda support 2G and would prefer the 4G to stay with GiffGaff for call quality.
So, I have:
GG in slot 1 (4G)
Voxi in slot 2.
APN set for Voxi.
Voxi set for Mobile Data
How do I now tell the Voxi SIM to connect over 2G and not 4G?
If I switch mobile data to the GiffGaff SIM, the 4G symbol from the Voxi symbol disappears so it must have switched to 2G but then GG is on data (with 4G sysmbol). When I switch back to Voxi GiffGaff goes to the no 4G but Voxi has the 4G with cross.
Is anyone here using dual SIMS like this in the UK?
Settings -> Network & Internet -> Mobile network -> Advanced -> Preferred network type
Did you try that?
Just tried every setting, in-between each one I toggled the mobile data switch and tried a ping and a Chrome page refresh
GiffGaff SIM = No 4G Logo and X (no network, calls and text work)
Voxi SIM = 4G Logo and X (no network, calls and text work)

Some things to note, I dont know if these are bugs in the ROM/AOSP or normal:
SIM Cards:
SIM Slot 1 shows "giffgaff - myphonenumber" and when clicked shows 'Operator - giffgaff' & 'Number - myphonenumber'
SIM Slot 2 shows "Voxi" - blank" (I edited the name to say Voxi manually) and when clicked shows 'Operator - unknown' & 'Number - unknown'
Mobile Network:
Enhanced 4G LTE Mode - This toggles the settings for both the GiffGaff and Voxi SIM regardless of within which SIM I set it
(Just found a reference to it here but no reply so dont know if this normal?)
This applies to the actual network in these settings as well. GiffGaff shows: Network - O2-UK, flicking across to the Voxi side it also shows O2-UK even if I untick 'Automatically select network' and search manually, choose Vodafone UK (Successfully registers on network) but doesn't change to 'vodafone uk'. The main sub heading under 'Settings - Mobile Network' shows O2-UK as well the status bar carrier info has always shown both giffgaff and vodafone uk no matter what.
These change if I completely disable SIM1 though, then it shows vodafone. I presume this is all because SIM1 is 'Priority' though. Doesnt help when troubleshooting
Also I realized I forgot to mention the ROM is ResRemix, not stock (oversight on my part, haven't used a stock ROM on a device for years, forgot they exist )
I have also tried the SIM in my old Nexus 4 and it worked with no issue so I am assuming it is definitely a device issue rather then a SIM/Carrier one.
Im going to try another ROM over the weekend, probably Lineage, If I get chance to try and get a baseline to see if this is ROM related though (although the ROM thread, people are saying dual SIM is working, mainly the JiO network(?))
Its also harder to troubleshoot when Ive never used Dual SIM before and have no idea how thongs should look and feel etc
