Hey! Just installed WP v7.8 on my father's old HD2. The OS runs really great on the device, but as many others I'm experiencing some serious battery issues. The battery last about 10 hours in standy (no use at all), which is really disappointing, as everything else is working exceptionally.
I tried using Battery Tool the way I found described here on the forums (setting period to 10 sec, lock the device for about 2-3 minutes, then unlock and wait 10 seconds for the stats to update) to find the standby battery usage, and got result from 80-160 (which I believe is really high, right?). Then I tried to apply the camera trick (go into camera, switch to video, exit with the Windows button), but there was no change in the battery current/life.
So my question is: Is the camera trick supposed to work at all on WP 7.8 on HD2, or am I just doing something wrong? Or am I just not lucky with the ROM, and should try another one?
Btw, it seems that I'm using radio 5.51T.09.29a_22.32.50.10H.

I want to try to install WM 7 on my hd2. but first, i got some questions:
1) is the camer and camcorder smooth and very sharp?
2) hows the call quality?
3) is the batt life better than on the hd2?
4) any other issues? does everything work?
1. smooth yes, sharp no but it's a phone not a camera.
2. it's good, like on android and 6.5.
3. at the moment not, i got less than 1 day when i tested it some time. think battery is the worst when comparing to android or 6.5.
4. activation key required and multitouch problems due to drivers like on every os on the hd2.
again, this is all answered in threads about the roms itself. read them and you'll get your answers.
aye as ^^ said
Drivers are the biggest issue for WP7 on the HD2, yes its very similar to the HD7 but its not the same, the camera, battery controller and touch screen are the big three. The question is can you live with it, and for me its yes you can.
The camera doesnt focus unless you hit video recording first, as for quality its the same unless you have the flash on, using the flash will give it a green tint.
there is a great wee camera app on here that takes care of the focus issue but its not as intigrated as the built in camera program, it also doesnt fix the flash issue and it never will because its a driver problem
it doesnt shoot wide screen photos, again, a driver issue or is it an API issue?....hmm, i think its API actually
The touch screen requires a bit of time to master, its fine for normal use, multi touch only works with 2 fingers touching at the same time, again, a driver issue.
the battery controller means WP7 doesnt reallly have a clue what its doing, most reports of hi drain are because it wasnt charged fully in the first place, sometimes it takes a couple of restarts and charges to get it full, or buy an external charger and a spare battery there are several guides to help get the most out of it, but i can get 2 days with moderate usage, 1 day with heavy usage, including data,3G, 2 push emails and BT on all the time.

i installed wp7 on my hd2. it looks very good. everything works. but the batt is my issue. i think theres a patch for the camera that makes pics look smoother.
if i continue with these probs, i'll just sell the phone on ebay and buy a used hd7 with wp7.

after installing wp7 on my hd2, i got to disagree with you about call quality. 1st off, the call quality is terrible on hd2 with 6.5 and android. so, dont compare 6.5's call quality to that of wp7. the call quality is perfect on wp7.
1) is the camer and camcorder smooth and very sharp?
- AF not work (have to switch to video for AF and then switch back)
- photo quality is not good enough for me (in WM6.5 & Android is better)
- video capability is quite good (720p)
2) hows the call quality?
- no issue that I've found, so far so good
3) is the batt life better than on the hd2?
- battery drain is high, seem it relate to driver problem, can't be fixed until someone release new driver
4) any other issues? does everything work?
- except driver issue, anything else is WP issue (such as no seperate volume control, no Asian input without unlock&sideload native keyboard, etc,...)
Before I get flamed I have read all the comments I can find on WP7 Rom battery tricks i.e. camera record after reboot trick, leaving 3g on etc. All Im asking is if other HD2 users are experiencing as little as 6-7 hours of battery life on WP7 roms, iv'e tried xbmod, HD20 and YukiXDA and have tried this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978101.
Phone is hardly used, no phone calls just settings and odd text message and only wifi on when using phone.
I'm gutted because I love WP7, any advice appreciated and am not trying to "Noob" up the forums I just wanted to start a dialogue with other WP7 Rom users.
Thx
Nope, that´s not normal.
There are several possible reasons for your problem. MAGLDR, Radio ROM and SPL versions are crucial. Bad flashing can happen all the time. Plus, an "incompatible" SD card can bring a hell lot of issues, too, as well as an "old" SIM card.
Anyway - I can say that under WP7, I could not reach the same battery lifetime like under WinMo 6.5 - you can more compare to Android (NAND versions). Maximum 2 days at really low usage (week-ends), 1 day with "normal" workload. I could easily double that time under WinMo 6.5.
The HD2 likes battery like i like beer.....as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.
My phone and wifes phone (exact same phone + ROM) work for about 7 hours. ive tried many different tricks, radios, ROMs and no luck. luckily at home and work i have access to charging points, so not so much of a problem. just anooying when we go travelling!
Try latest YukiXDA Rom with 3G on. My phone lasted a day and night ( few calls, texts, games (including installing) Facebook etc. Much improved.
i'm using yuki's latest and mines dead in about 7 hours also (without even using it cos i have a company phone) but some have reported 2 days , i've got the battery tool and my current is usually around -250 sometimes higher before and after camera trick but some have reported 2ma ,, i'm sure i'm using the bat tool wrong lol . gigahurtz whats your current

Hi,
i noticed months ago the following on my IDEOS X5 (german) concerning bad battery life. It could be the reason why there are so many different reports regarding bettery lifetime of the U8800.
First - why did I start to investigate: because the phone sucked about 5-10% per hour while not beeing used / lying on my desk, so after max 20 hours the battery was empty. But this did/does not always happen....
What I did: it took some time to get used to android (its my first droid) and learn how to troubleshoot. A month after I got this phone I learned that the GSM-code *#*#4636#*#* will show you very useful information concenring battery/phone usage. I started to play around with the phone (factory reset, install/remove apps, enable/disable different options like 2G/3G/WLAN etc...) always keeping an eye on the 4636-infos.
Result: When I use WLAN the phone simetimes enters an "state" when it never again enters "sleep state" and the battery gets sucked as stated above. I switched off WLAN for a week and this did not occur while standby time increased to 48 hours and 4636 stated an "phone awake" percentage of below 20% (normal usage). Once I reenabled WLAN again it took about an day of WLAN usage to reproduce the bug and "phone awake" time increased to 100% while standby time decreased to below 20 hours. ONLY rebooting the device recovers from this "state". I further noticed that this does not happen if just WLAN is available but no 2G/3G (phone had no SIM). My conclusion is, that the
"You May Be Charged"-Popup is the culprit. It does lock the phone to this "state" for some reason, mybe when the WLAN connection is dropped while the phone is not used (traveling). Can someone reproduce this on his phone (maybe not german)?
Resolution: IMHO none. I send the device twice to reseller for service. First time the complete mainboard was changed without success regarding the battery drain. Second time nothing was done - they just returned the device to me.
Thanks.
This is a known problem, that already has a thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043760
This is affecting ALL Froyo Roms, if you want battery life, install Oxygen or CM7...which are based on Gingerbread.
There is no point in discussing this issue anymore, this is a very well known problem and Huawei doesn't care.
Sending the phone back to manufacturer won't help at all.
Thank you for the hint - it realy looks like the same issue. Knowing more about the nature of this issue could give people not willing to install custom roms a possible solution. Can someone move this thread over to that one?

I hope some more bugs are straightened out like headphones and internal mic at the same time. Headset button to work. Battery time!
none of my android phones could use the phone's mic when headphones were plugged in
I saw a solution for the mic-with-headphones-problem a few days ago, either here or at modaco (do not know if it is confirmed working though).
fajabird, I know that you want this to work with the ROMs provided by Huawei. Huawei obviously does not care too much about providing the community with updates (they do not even have gingerbread-support by now). This is the downside of this low priced phone.
Let me just say this: It took me about one hour to understand the ultimate-guide at modaco. It took me another hour to decide which ROM I want to use. If anything goes wrong at the installation I can easily start over again. Now I have a fully working phone with Android 2.3.5 with a battery that lasts at least 2 days, sometimes 3(if I do not play any games within that time). Of course I understand that you are probably very pissed at Huawei for providing a ROM with a bug that serious.
if you find that fix again, let us know where to look

It is to be found at the Android-development-section, right here. Note that you cannot use the mic of your headset after applying this
too bad, it would be awesome to be able to use both

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with me. I always wanted to update to some custom roms but the time I started investigating this issue there was no stable one out there. On the other hand I thought there might be a dev interessted in more details regarding this issue helping him to sort out this nasty bug for whatever reason.
Can someone tell me, if his U8800 also has the ambient light sensor but like mine does: it won't reduce the brightness, just increase works. Thanks.

Mine reduces brightness but does it quite weird sometimes like adjusting several times without the light around me changing...
Mine always adjusts it way too low. If I am inside the brightness is always on minimum. I use the power-widget on the homescreen. I only change it at night, it is on max. for the whole day (the max. brightness is still kinda low, especially if it's sunny).

Hey there friend, I've detailed much of this and been through a lot of troubleshooting. It did not appear to be the "You may be charged" popup as I disabled that whenever I changed ROMs. I never did get a solution for any of the Huawei ROMs, it just seemed like bad code as Dzo pointed out with the WiFi driver.
A very simple solution for me was installing one of the 2.3 ROMs, they are quite stable at the moment, especially Oxygen (although I use MIUI). You will find much better battery life with these.
Best of luck,
Ryan
My stock rom 2.2.1 Shows Android System 97% battery usage and battery drains 50% in 19minutes! With wi-fi, 3g, Bluetooth, everything is off and even i do not use it.
Flash latest official 2.2.2, wait for official 2.3, flash the custom 2.2.2 rom void or flash a custom 2.3 rom. I would recommend flashing the latest 138 or 162 to get the latest modem baseband or manually install the AMSS.bin.

I can't because phone do not use my external SD card somehow. In android i see files but in recovery-it does not use external sd.. I ask in forum why-but nobody answers
Backup ur data on it and format it. If that doesnt work ill send you a guide how i fixed mine, its just a partition error.

I formated it via phone, then via PC - it works in powered on phone in android, but in recovery it doesn't it only sees sdcard as internal memory, if i try mount sd-ext shows error, can't mount.
Also i have problem if i use pc to copy some files to internal memory-phone switches storage mode OFF! and i can't copy files to internal 2GB memory..strange
I know theres alot of topics about battery drain, and some methods have worked for some, but I am still stuck in the loop.
I'm using Back to the Future (XBmod-Yuki/7740) - and have tried The Camera Trick, 2.12 Radio, and Registry tweak (battery indicator) and all have failed, i get around 8-10 hours battey on minimal use, (Facebook app for 30min and 8/9 text msgs) [note: 3g and Data on]
and I was wondering is anyone noticing any difference on other wp7 roms? or is that rom specific?
Thanks in advance
Apparently i've got the same issue as you, I got 3 hours off it with intensive use today ( 2.12 radio, no battery fix, but it was draned down to zero )
I'm also using the back to the future rom ( But it's registered as 7720 )
My device is eastern europeian.
I'm back on winmo
i will try wp7 again (HD2O) (7740) but with different SD cards, hopefully i get a lil better life
ill let you knw how that goes

And i'm gonna get an android SD these days to compare.
with lightly use, my HD2 WP7(Back to the future 7740) ate battery so quick. I'm trying to flash pdaimatejam's v2. Hope to get some changes.
Okay to CONFIRM
Booted pdaimatejam's v2 on lexmar 8gb (class 4 )
Radio: 2.12
and so far used 10hours
and still 54% battery remaining
3g and data is ON!
Location OFF
Live Tiles disables (have to manually update hotmail etc, no push)
Tooks round 40pics, used FB app (Biggest drain)
and few small video clips (2.mins each)
also 70-100 txts snt and recieved
im happy now
yeah i was struggling with battery life for a while too.
the camera trick seems to have helped a lot. i get almost 2 days with normal use with location, 3g and data all turned off. i am going to do the registry trick, then turn location, 3g and data back on to see if anything changes.
EDIT: the registry editor that works with mango does not allow me access to these registry files. oh well.
Android SD was still not the best I've tried. while the ROM had more battery life then yuki's back to the future, it still left me 30 minutes before I was ready to let it go.
Today on WP7 i got 3.5 hours with: the camera trick,(Switch to video and leave it running, right?) also no 3g no Wi-Fi and no Location/Bluetooth. Brightness all the way down ( snowy weather ) . Where can I find the instructions/guide to installing pdaimatejam's or is it included in the download?
Do we have to use camera trick every time we reboot HD2? How about the reset command from MDLDR menu? Do we need use it every time we replace battery?

reboot should be fine, bt i tried the HD20 rom over last few days (radio 2.15) and battery drain whilst standby is AMAZING! with 3g on over night it drained like 5-7% battery, but when using browser, whats app etc battery drains too much :S
Hey Guys,
It's my first time around the block with an HD2 so bear with me. I'm haveing MAJOR drainage issues with my battery on my WP7 HD2.
I have the latest pdaimatejam 8107 loaded with the default 5.71 radio.
After a couple of weeks I decided to buy a new battery thinking that the old one was busted (I got the HD2 off Craigslist and under Android it complains about the battery not having the proper charge) After using the new battery I get about the same results.
I installed the HTC Battery Status tool and my mah drain is a crazy -100 to -200mah current! Is this normal? I read threads about people trying to get down from -40mah. I have no background tasks running on the phone (at least none that I'm aware of)
I haven't tried flashing the old 5.51 radio yet because I already loaded my 32gb card with hundreds of apps and music and videos. Is there a way to flash the old radio without having to lose everything? The camera trick does not seem to work, and changing the registry values just has it report back to 11 (not 6 for some reason) upon reboot.
Any help would be great. I think after a couple days though I'll try flashing the old radio.
Thanks in advanced!
you cant flash without loose everything....
for save apps data and setting read Tutorial v1.4 from Pdamatejam page
Kindly search forums.. this has already been addressed a lot
For Best performance and good battery life use 2.15.50.xx hard radio + 5.50 soft radio version
For best battery life use 2.12.xx.xx hard radio + 5.50 soft radio..
I did search the forums and I am aware of the different combinations of the radios and the software.
I am more concerned about whether the -200mah drain is a normal occurrence. I guess I could just report back when I have flashed the older radio, but I really don't want to do that considering the amount of stuff I already have loaded on my partition.
I apologize if it seems redundant to post something like this. I haven't seen anyone post about having a huge drain like 200mah. It just seems odd to me and I don't understand how it can get that high.
To give more information, I made sure to turn off the background tasks in WP7 that I don't need. I make sure I exit the program (by pressing back and making sure it doesn't show up as a card) and I even put the phone on airplane mode. After all of this, my drain was in the hundreds.
EDIT:
Great... I checked it just now and the drain is 400mah
mind you, nothing is even running. I just turned it on for the day and it was the first thing I checked.
