A little new... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Okay, I've flashed phones before, starting from my lg incite to my htc one s, but sometimes the words and acronyms get a little crazy on me. i've never dealt with a beast like the hd2. I'm so intrigued by it, I wanna flash everything on it. But first, I just received it from a friend. It already has froyo on it. I might want to go to jelly bean or even back to wp 6.5, theres just something about the aesthetics of wp 6.5. I guess my question is where do I start? Some pointers and a guide in the right direction will be highly appreciated. I'm used to just putting a rom in my sd memory and using twrp to flash it no brainer. But HSPL is already above my head, clk, say what? So, any help, highly appreciated. Thanks.

First of all, please read the guide in my sig which is an explanation of the terms used for the HD2. It'll make everything you do easier to understand.
If you want to flash Windows Mobile, you just have to enter the bootloader and flash a stock ROM. If you have experience of flashing this shouldn't be difficult at all. Bootloader is just vol down + power, then you flash the stock RUU via USB.
If you want to flash Android, you can check the other guide in my sig. You've already got the required HSPL, Radio and MAGLDR so everything should work fine from here. If your MAGLDR version is less than 1.13 (it will say at the top of the MAGLDR screen) then you'll have to flash a newer version of that first.

muchas gracias. Also, not sure if it makes a difference by now, but I have the tmobile version of the hd2.

Well then in that case when flashing a stock ROM make sure it's for TMOUS. NEVER flash a radio version below 2.08.50 (I think it's that one, tbh you'll be fine if you avoid flashing radios altogether) and if a ROM has multiple downloads (it normally won't any more, but with older ROMs there may be more than one option) make sure to flash the MAGLDR one for TMOUS. In reality you shouldn't have any issues once you understand what everything means, especially if you're an experienced flasher (hehehe) as you claim.

Okay, I've flashed a few times, but that doesn't mean I know what I'm doing! Lol, but thanks for all the advice. I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now I'll be set on trying to figure things out. Gah, so many possibilities on this beast! And I just learned what Ubuntu is! And how to pronounce MIUI! Ahh! My One S is gunna be on the backburner, but it's running ParanoidAndroid.
Oh, actually one more question! What do you consider to be the power button on this thing? I thought it would be the end call button, but I'm having issues getting into boot loader. Vol down plus... end call? While powered off? I promise getting into bootloader or recovery is the hardest thing for me!
Hmmm, my friend did say he replaced the digitizer so that's probably the reason why the volume button doesn't work... Maybe I should just get a new one off Craigslist for 140... Or I can take it apart myself and see what the issue is... That's probably why I don't get into bootloader... Know of any other ways to get into boot loader? So far, what I'm seeing is that I need that volume buttom... :/

The power button is the End Button. You don't really need to hold it, you just have to hold the Volume down to get to the bootloader (NOT the recovery), the End button is just to boot up the phone. Good luck.
Oh, and by the way, I'd be happy if you read this quote:

Giving thanks is important. It lets people know that their work or answer is appreciated. It is a faster
method of feedback than posting a reply like "Thanks for your answer!" You must have one post to
give thanks, so here is a good place you can do that: The "Say Hi" thread.
You can go do that now and come back and finish here please.
If you use them all every day you are doing it correctly.

i've followed the directions from the video to install clockworkmod recovery and everything's been good up to the boot ad sd part. it finishes it says GO GO GO!, but then it's a no go it stays stuck at that screen. please help this isnt my phone i'm doing it as a favor. phone has latest update from winmo, hardspl 208 whatever its called, magdlr v1.10. it's the tmobile usa htc hd2. i noticed after i installed magdlr it would'nt boot in to winmo anymore, is that normal is that where the problem could have started?
Replace it with MAGLDR 1.11
You are already brave enough to go mess with someone's phone, so don't panic.
Watch a video or two here...
This video is also sexy...
how do i replace magldr without being able to boot into winmo? only thing i can do is boot into current 1.10 magldr
Just power on the phone with the volume down key pressed and go into Bootloader mode. You flash MAGLDR from there remember?
I wouldn't be messing with someone else's phone if I didn't know what I was doing.

[Q] Can't shut it down

Hi everybody! I've been visiting XDA for quite a while but never written anything, but now I got a problem that really annoy me.
My HD2 (International, stock) is really getting some strange software bugs lately. One of the more irritation ones is the unability to shut down the phone. Both holding the key and using "Quick EndKey" results in the same thing thing, it goes black but instead of shutting down it just goes back to the home screen.
What should I do?
I'm no tech guy when it comes to computer, phones etc (they mostly risk flying out of the window when messing with me) so everything "everything for dummies".
Edit: "Quick EndKey" actually worked one time right after I posted, but now it fails again.
Try a hard reset of your HD2. Be warned though this will wipe your HD2 back to factory status so make sure all your pictures, videos, documents, and etc are on your SD card. And use Microsoft My Phone to backup your contacts, tasks, calender, and etc.
To do the hard reset hold both the volume up and down buttons down while powering on your HD2 and when you see the screen with instructions pop up follow the instructions.
Thanks for the answer, I'm thinking of trying to go Android instead of just hard resetting. I'm really trying hard to understand things but even the "simple" guides feels like jungles. I guess this will take the whole night...

Here I will try to make things a little simple for you. Make sure you have radio version 2.08.50.xx or higher before flashing MAGLDR. If you already have a radio higher than this you are good.
1. Flash HSPL 2.08 using HSPL 4, I have a link to it in my sig.
2. Flash MAGLDR 1.13 which I also have linked in my sig.
3. Flash the proper sized CWM for the ROM you want, check the ROM thread for the size partition you need with CWM. I also have a link to CWM in my sig
4. Flash your Android ROM using CWM, here is a guide on how to do that.
Also check out my guide in my sig to lean how to flash HSPL, MAGLDR, and CWM plus it will tell you what all the options do. I also have therow guides on how to install Android linked at the top of my guide.
Wish me tons of of good luck!
I'll probably brick it anyway, but hey, at least it looks pretty on the bookshelf...

Do you have a T-Mobile HD2 or a EU HD2? If it is a T-Mobile HD2 look at the radio warning I have for T-Mobile HD2s close to the end of my guide, it is under the Radio information.
It's a EU one, I'm sure as it's bought in a store here in Sweden and was unlocked from the beginning.

Well if it is a EU then you don't have to worry about flashing the wrong radio as EU HD2s can use any radio. Just make sure when you are flashing anything via bootloader like MAGLDR or cLK you do not let the phone accidently become desconnected from the USB cable while flashing is accuring. This is truecalso if youare flashing a official or custom Wimdows mobile ROM. Make sure your HD2 is properly charged also so it will not shut off while uou are flashing anything. This should help you not to brick your HD2.

Help a newbie out please

I recently brought a HTC HD2 and I wanted to change the Windows Mobile OS to the android OS. I tried reading the instruction here on the forum on how to do it but no luck...damn I'm just not techsavvy enough to do this. If anyone have the time to help me...I would appreciate it. I think it would be best if we chatted 1 on 1 on a AIM messenger or whatever on the step-by-step procedures. Thanks!
all the steps are on the guides, you will need to do alot of reading, ill be honest if you read the guides and still dont understand how to do it, you woudl be better off sticking to winmo or putting on an SD version of android
I tried reading the guides but it's confusing as hell with all the instructions scrambling around. Shoot I just don't want to brick my phone...

It keep telling me to update because the version I downloaded is old? Iunno I downloaded the only one that was labeled "setup" so I don't see why it's saying that the version is old. Ok...then I click 'update' and it gave me this error...I tried to skip the update after many frustration attempts and it's still pops up the same errors.

Mate,
What kind of Android do you want to run on your HD2?
Is it NAND or is it SD Android? Do you know the difference?
If you only want to have SD Android, then it will be easier for you to follow.
And you can keep your WInmo. I mean you will have 2 OS, i.e Winmo and SD Android. Just like mine (see my sig below)
The first thing you have to do is installing SPL 2.08 HSPL.
To do that, you have to go into bootloader screen. How? Turn off your phone.
Now, press the VOLUME DOWN and POWER ON BUTTONS at the same time, and release only after the FOUR COLORS SCREEN appear (Red, Blue, Green and White). If you arrive at this point, then you now know how to boot into the so called "Bootloader Screen".
Now, Check at the white color part (the below part) whether there is any text say: "Serial" (without quote). If yes, now you can connect your hd2 to your PC using USB cable. In doing this, you should plug in the rear (not front) usb port of your PC. If this is the first time, your PC would need time to install the necessary USB driver. If succeeded, you will see the text "Serial" now has changed to "USB". You can proceed to next step, i.e installing SPL 2.08 HSPL.
Remember HSPL is always be required for flashing ROM, etc. You will see it HSPL mentioned all over the HD2 forums. So you have to be able to install HSPL before going to further step.
Sorry, if I forgot, you also have to download HSPL 4. It is an application for installing SPL 2.08 HSPL and other SPL. You can download it from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433&highlight=HSPL+4
Once you downloaded HSPL 4, extract it to whatever folder in your PC.
Keep in mind, it is for PC running MS Windows. If you are running Windows 7, you have to run as an administrator.
Now, while in the bootloader, connected you USB, and the text already changed to "USB", you run HSPL 4 from your PC. You have to follow the instruction there carefully. So, please read the guides provided in the link mentioned above.
If you can achieve this stage, then we can go on to the next level, i.e Flashing Radio, Task 29, etc.
Goodluck

This guy makes it sound difficult For SD Android, you need to go to http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1043&news_id=782 and install Rom upgrade 3.14 (just connect phone to computer and press a button, that's really all you have to do). You should be fine, but if you want to then check that you have SPL 3.03 and radio 2.15 (in bootloader and WinMo settings>software information respectively) then download an android build (I recommend AmeriCanAndroid), put it on your SD card (Copy and paste) and press two files on file explorer (clrcad and haret). You will then have Android and Windows Mobile
No HPSL, Radio, Task 29 etc needed. In other words: YOU CANNOT BRICK YOUR PHONE.

You best option is to stay away from flashing Android and to stick to Windows Mobile and possibly decide to boot Android from SD instead of flashing. Once you have spent some time reading, learning and understand the process more you can branch out to maybe installing MAGLDR on your device and then flashing Android.
Back to your pathetic and quite frankly childish attempt and insulting me.. A virgin would definitely put money on the line to prove that they're not a virgin. The only way you going to prove that you got laid is that you paid a hooker to bang you. Bloke, you're just trying too hard to prove something from a random stranger on the internet. You're so funny...that childish attempt of mine seems to hit a nerve because YOU'RE THE ONE that is fazed.
P.S. never take advices from a Brit on how to get laid! LOL!
I must say this thread sums up the difficulty one experiences trying to learn the guides on this site, very badly written, at least for noobs (which is what they all claim to be.. "ultimate noob guide".. not).
There could be just a few choice stickies to solve so many issues... like a post that get updated or voted on as to what is the fastest running rom for X device..
Basic descriptions of the strange terms used.
Explainations that HTC seem to be very unstable when flashing. I have seen one attempt to be flashed 10 times, and the 11th times it JUST WORKED - no rhyme or reason. No wonder people freak out on here.
I have spend a few days just trying to get basic direction, I finally get a rom on my HD2, it is slow and flaky as, but I am hella scared to touch it becuase it was an absolute sh*t fight to get that one on there. Now I have wasted another half day trying to figure out what a better, faster NAND rom will be, if SuperRam is bettr (?!?) jesus christ I just want a stable phone.
You guys flaming people for not knowing the mountain of crap to learn about flashing roms are a bit harsh IMO.

Note: I'm only familiar with working on my Captivate, the XDA community has been good to me in the past, hoping some of you can spare a few minutes to help me help out my co-worker.
Download HSPL4, boot into bootloader (tricolor) and flash HSPL 2.08.
BTW: Wrong forum!

@syngamer if its Android that you want to put on the phone then read the requirements in the above thread before you start. As you have SPL 3.0.3 on the phone you will want to follow *THIS* guide to install HardSPL and select HSPL 2.0.8 from the list or Magldr wont run properly. Also boot into the bootloader and make sure you have a new radio as that can cause problems too.
MArk.
Thanks guys, but no matter which guide/tutorial I try I keep running into the ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
you should give more detail, especially things like the full filename of the file you are using that gives the error, and details of what you are doing to perform the flash, and details of what you think you mean by ''It *had* WM 6.5 but she somehow installed SPL 3.03 '' since thats a normal spl?
ALso, is it a normal hd2, or is it a tmous hd2? (tmous is t mobile US and has green send key red end key, and its very important to know which it is)

It's a T-mobile HD2. She started trying to flash Android on it and got cLK 1.14 but couldn't progress from there.
well i cant really help with the next steps, cos ive never used cLK, its a bit too advanced for me, give me teh simplicity of magldr any day.
You didnt explain the errors tho, , i mean, if you have cLK installed, you should be using fastboot to flash cwm next i think, whereas teh error you describe sounds like you are trying to flash with teh phone in bootloader(stripey screen)?

Well, I've got Magldr installed, CWM is now on there and from there I'm set. Currently flashing (trying to at least) NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.2a_NAND_(Android-2.3.7).
EDIT: holy ****, that was fast. I currently see an HTC logo...wondering if first boot takes awhile like most...and disregard. It's now loading. Success! Thanks for the links/guides everyone! This is why XDA is the best.
Congrats on your restoration f the HD2!
BTW she can dual Boot the HD2 if she likes

Haha, that was exactly my reaction on first boot Glad to see you got it sorted out

can i get into recovery without vol. buttens?

my volume buttens doesnt work at all, i accedently tare them apart when i replaced the digitizer screan.
the phone is still on WM
so in order to flash android i will have to navigate to rd recovery, and then to flash the touch recovey (that is challenge by it self)
so... any one can help me?
How do you have recovery AND WM ? Don't you need MAGLDR or cLK for a recovery? And you can't have those with wm?
in cLK, hold the "Home Button" .. in MAGLDR, I don't think it's possible. (Or is it?)
if i understand the question, the OP is running WM on the hd2, which has defective volume buttons.
because it does not yet have magldr or clk, booting the phone into BOOTLOADER will be necessary to get things going. the preferred way of entering into BOOTLOADER involves powering on the device with volume down pressed.
however, if i remember correctly, starting the CustomRUU on your pc while usb is connected to phone and the phone is fully booted into WM will do the following:
1. reboot into BOOTLOADER
2. flash the contents of the CustomRUU
if i am remembering my hd2 basics correctly, i guess you could flash CLK+TouchRecovery using the package in the first post of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769081
i think that package contains ONLY the contents to be flashed, so you will need the rest of the files of CustomRUU beforehand (the EXE file, etc, etc).
you don't mention if your device has HSPL or not. i seem to have forgotten the steps for installing HSPL but if ANY step REQUIRES (no alternative) booting into BOOTLOADER manually, then you will be stuck with no way forward!
also, i think once you get CLK+TouchRecovery+Android flashed to your NAND, then i think CustomRUU won't work with regards to Point 1 (mentioned above). so you might have trouble executing most use cases of HD2 Toolkit.
finally, i think the partitioning steps using CLK+TouchRecovery will REQUIRE use of the volume keys, because partitioning is done inside CLK using the CLK menus which work with volume keys only! so you might be limited to android ROMs that fit into the DEFAULT CLK partitioning! :crying:
get the buttons fixed and you and i won't have to wrack our brains so much! good luck!

@OP, be REALLY careful before you dive straight in, because unless its a winmo rom or a radio, doing this will mean there is NO way for you to get into bootloader, since there wont be any winmo installed any more.
So, there probably is a way to do it and end up with a successful install, but you have to be REALLY sure of the steps, and do it all in one go, , you wont get a second chance.
if the phone isnt on 3.14 winmo, or a tmous, then the first thing you need to do is switch radio before you lose winmo, since it must be flashed from bootloader, meaning you need to get into bootloader at least twice. Do 2.08.hspl first, then the radio, and only then consider removing winmo.
I say again, be really carefull and absolutely sure of what steps you take.

TOTALLY agreed! i tried to write my post to highlight all the numerous possible pitfalls, but i might have made it sound like a series of easy steps. things quite often DO go wrong, and i will also reiterate that you just might get stuck due to a minor mistake.
i guess what we are all trying to tell the OP is it is better to be safe than sorry. you presently have a working hd2 (with WM) and it is indeed too risky to proceed to switching to android with dead volume buttons. so better to get them fixed first and then you won't have to worry about laying down a plan that could be as complex as a long term chess game!
Sorry for misguiding you guygs. The phone already have HSPL and maglr 1.13 and even runing andrdoid.
From that point, how can i flash the touch recovery?
This is my brother phone so i just saw the device, he cant tell the difrance between wm and android lol

I would recommend that u dont flash the stock rom again until u know how many bad blocks u have. I have 5 bad blocks, I regret changing my partion sizes ( windows mobile and windows phone os change size during installation) Just tell him that is can get messed up and just search on youtube for videos of hd2 with wm.
