wifi turn off when phone is in standby - Galaxy S III General

my phone is S3 LTE.
The wifi policy is configured as never turn off in sleep mode.
However I found that when I turn on my phone (ie screen on) I will see a [my_ap_name] wifi connection is connected.
Which that's mean wifi is turned off in standby.

It's your phone the GT-I9305 or a US variant?

I enabled power saving mode. Isn't the reason of wifi turning off ?

First of all, wrong section. Ask mod to move it to A&Q i9305 section.
Which ROM are you using? Last few days I've noticed similar issue. My WiFi keeps dropping and reconnecting few times a day. Annoying and unusual. I think it have something to do with ROM/kernel (stock 3.0.31 from 18 Jan ). First time using pre-rooted Stock based on XXBMA6. Before never had problems with WiFi, custom ROMs only..... I'm going to go back to Pandoriam v6.6 and see how it goes.

The above post seems to make more sense than my suggestion below.
You could just install a custom ROM that doesn't support 3g. Like Task 14. I've seen people use it and it work fine, just losing 3g. But I wouldn't expect much, if any support running it on a 3g device and it being it's a WI-FI ONLY ROM.
Edit: no idea for sure if this would definitely solve the battery problem though either.

Or you could simply enable flight mode, which deactivates the 3g and wifi. After the tab goes in flight mode, reenable wifi only. This works for me, i use it in areas where 3g reception is bad to save battery

The last few days I have been running Tasker with a script that enables flight mode whenever its locked and disables i whenever its unlocked. My batterylife has quadrupled that way, not exactly sure why. I dont need mail sync etc, so this was a good solution for me.

It's even really handy, when you enter pin and enter flight mode, to simply use power button menu to quickly start 3G

Gsm voice calling now enabled without issues (GT-P7500) Deodexed roms /cm9 /cm10

Here is how to to enable gsm voice calling for GT-p7500 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31254809. Thanks for tomula for giving up the solution and for the op who created the zips
To my mind the tab 8.9 has gsm calling enabled by default.

While on tab 10.1 not
www.gsmarena.com/samsung_p7500_galaxy_tab_10_1_3g-3892.php
Please note the statement on the top of the pages of gsmarena.
Really I do not recognize why Samsung did that, is it the ipad imitation issue.?
What bothers me more is why not a single developer could port it to the p7500 though it has apparently the same hardware as the p7300?

Both tabs 8.9 and 10.1. Was able to make voicecalls (the prerelease versions ) but samsung removed this feature on the retail units. So the problem exists also in 8.9 not only us. But gsmarena forgot to update their info

Screen turning off cancels call.
Pretty amazing that i'm able to make phone calls using my HUGE 10 inch android tablet.
But is anyone having this bug where during a call, when the screen turns itself off (due to inactivity) all sounds are muted and the person of the other end can't hear u? I've turn off the "Auto screen off during calls" setting, but this still happens.

I've tried Tomula's description too, using pershoot's CM9 build. I patched my framework-res.apk respectively, flashed the modem. I was able to make a phone call, BUT:
1. I couldn't hang up. No idea why, but the big red hang-up button just didn't do anything.
2. I couldn't call the tablet's phone no. It would ring on the calling phone, but nothing happened on the tablet.
3. Same screen-off symptoms.
I tried both modems (Smithsonian's and Tomula's), but there was no real difference. I did notice for both of them that the battery would drain quicker for some reason. Didn't investigate that yet. Went back to the p7500 radio, and battery drain's back to normal.
I think we might be well on our way to finally get phone calling, but we're not quite there yet.

I just used Mobile Odin to flash the modem.tar.md5 from the stock ICS
Edit: Little update. I retried the whole thing again, using the XXLQ3 modem. After installing the modem, i booted the tablet without the SIM inserted, and after boot inserted the card again, turned flight mode on and off, and call-in now works as well. so basic phone functionality does indeed work. Don't have a BT headset handy right now, but will try that as well as soon as i can. I'll keep an eye on the battery drain again.
Edit2: Well, it's weird. I've gone home earlier, and guess what stopped working... phone call inbound doesn't ring/activate the phone app. Phone call outbound cannot be hung up. The only difference to the working state was a different location (ie. different GSM cell) and wifi network. Rebooting/Reinserting SIM etc didn't have any effect. So, basically the phone stuff can work, but its not reliable at all.

what ROM/kernel are you running? Did you flash a kernel with updated wifi drivers and flash another (kernel) without reinstalling the ROM?
Otherwise, yes...check your router settings.
I'm sorry that changing out to wifi never sleeps, didn't fix your problem.

Make sure to read the changelog of the kernel. Some kernels include updated WiFi/Bluetooth drivers and if you switch kernels you must reflash the ROM to revert the drivers.

WiFi keeps turning on

I purchased my S4 2 days ago, so far I'm loving it. However, for some reason the wifi keeps turning on even when I have the setting turned off (I get a decent 4G signal where I live & would prefer to use that when possible). Any ideas? I'm rooted with the stock ROM.

Do you have the "smart wifi" setting turned off? It is the first option on the wifi screen, tap it then turn it off and you should be good to go. If you have already done that then I'm not sure.

[Help][Urgent]WiFi won't turn on

Hi there!
I'm having a really bad problem at the moment on my s4 (i9505). Recently I upgraded from stock (MDE) to pre-rooted (MF8). Since then, my WiFi has stopped working, and it seems to be the only thing that has gone wrong. When I toggle WiFi on, it immediately toggles off (both in the quick settings, and through the settings panel). When I mean immediately, I mean within 1/10 of a second.
I flashed another ROM over it (OMEGA V7) and nothing changed.
I feel as though I've missed something vital, and would rather work on a fix for it rather than flash stock through Odin and start from scratch. Any help is very much appreciated.
Check settings in WiFi. There is an option for using cell or WiFi based on which one is faster, disable it.

I can't really say why this happens but a lot of times with this phone it seems that the MAC address to the wifi is somehow lost and by removing the /data/.cid.info file you can somehow reset something that makes things work again. I assume it's somehow tight to different wifi network chip drivers in different kernels but I'm not sure. On some ROM's I have tried I have to do this on every boot...
